  1. now you know that I think Bret Easton Ellis is the finest living American writer... just never mention Patrick Bateman while holding a knife near me...
  2. me imply anyone here is crazy????????
  3. a note to everyone - I would never argue with anyone named Patrick Bateman and I am getting worried that we have Patrick Bateman in a sig and another Patrick Bateman as a poster -
  4. I hadn't thought about that - I will look forward to booing him, and not to many exSox players I feel that way about.
  5. missed the official ceremony - is it rebroadcast on ESPN?
  6. before your time - in 1968 - the governor of California, the movie actor who got elected in 1966 to the the office that Nixon lost in 1962, Reagan beating Wilson who beat Nixon - in 1968, Reagan was a candidate for president up through the first ballot of the convention and Nixon had to work hard to get that first ballot victory with Reagan still in it. Nixon never forgot a slight - as we all know. I thought Reagan was a fine host of Death Valley Days. Otherwise...
  7. I almost read the sports section through 1/3 of a game today - barely made the bonus points - I think every Damons and Buffalo Wild Wings has NTN - Mr I, you remember your score and haven't hardly played in two years? Amazing! That is a clue that you should play again, now. Other than lunch on Friday, I might not play until Saturday night. It would be fun to all play at the same time and see if we can top 20 anything together.
  8. No one was against anybody. There were those who felt strongly a second UN resolution was needed. We just had the adminsitratioin asking these countries - Germany, France, USSR, Canada, for money and troops for Iraq, after insulting them last spring with the "Old Europe" line. Right after asking fdor assistance - which these nations ahve been giving in various ways since the fall of Hussein - turn right around and shut them out again for petty reasons. This is not the way to make friends or build coaltions or engage in real world diplomacy, just more of the mean spirited revenge method of acting as we have seen from this administartion all along. Oh, and of course by knocking out other country's corporations, this leaves Haliburton in a better position to reap more profit$. And after this little announcement, what happens when next week the US asks these nations for assistance in this or any other matter? And now that Canada has said it must reconsider, after this announcement, any further financial aid which they have been giving since last spring, that leaves the US taxpayer - or in this administration's case, the deficit and our children and grandchildren - paying the price for the petty vindictiveness that passes for policy these days.
  9. that list is outdated - it should be 690,000 now had a lousy night last night - got all the bonus points but all scores were low - however, question of he day was who is Mr. Zip - and the comment was now that he has retired from advertizing postal zones and one of the replies he is advertizing the cubs chances of winning the world series
  10. My friend, we then must cheerfuylly agree to define these words differently - so be it! Always enjoy your posts - take care!
  11. How can I say - if you have a body part that is average in size, would you characterize it as 1. mediocre 2. average 3. excellent As you define your own body part...
  12. I hate to quibble with a good friend after such a fine post especially but what that defines is: average. Very average on the bell curve, very average. But it is not mediocre. We have been a mid pack, average-slightly better than average. Given where we have been in other time periods, a real improvement. And I'd just as soon hold here as slip. But then again with all of us I'd just as soon take it to the next level. We thought that was going to happen immediately after 2000, hence the extreme disappointment out of proportion to the team's record. This is an art, howver , not a science, and an art that depends on the interactions of 30+ plus at any one time - 25 players, manager, coaches, GM. If this were a science, everyone would be at the next level. It is an art. We hold on and hope for the best.
  13. I had hopes for Edwards but the campaign hasn't taken off (yet). He lost me with his vote for the war, The union endorsements and now Gore make Dean very formidable. I doubt a Dean vs Bush election will really inspire apathy. I am uncertain if Dean wins or loses, but it should be entertaining on our part and a really dirty campaign on the Bush side. Remember what G W did to Arizona John McCain. Remember Dole attacking elder Bush on the Senate floor, quit lying about my record. I am hanging in with Clark. I will support the Dem nominee regardless.
  14. those 5 words equal "rumor on the Sox message board" as warnings that whatever follows is silliness
  15. $48 million? they be fools
  16. FSJ, you are always, have always been, fair in your comments, objective as a fan can be, which is why you are respected and listened to (at least by me ). Your method of critique - being fair - seeing all sides - that is good analysis, whether one agrees or not, and I for one appreciate you.
  17. thanks, I have been educated, I appreciate it. After I read that news crawl, I must cinfess to being depressed and my NTN scores all fell about 1,000 to 2,000 points the rest of the evening. And I put off coming home because I didn't want to read about it. I am not even sure who he signed with, I just know he walked on us, the tub of goo club house troublemaker. For all that, I was amazed how sad I was when he was gone.
  18. Paul Simon was one of the great people in American politics the last 50 years and Illinois was honored to have him as a Senator and our nation was blessed thereby. Rest eternal grant Paul O Lord and let light perpetual shine upon him.
  19. Lieberman and Gore deeply disagree on the war in Iraq issue. Liebrman made some nasty comments a few months ago about Gore's campaign - forgetting that Gore did get the most votes by almost 600,000. Dean is running a Gore like "people/populist" and internet campaign. The surprise is that Gore did this now, or did not endorse Clark, who is supported by many former Gore people. Note: Edwards is not Jewish. He is a trial lawyer. To the GOP, same thing.
  20. being so conerned about threads where hate and viciously false accusations were expressed and such that it was incredibly painful for many, people were banned, friendships were ruptured, strained, why bring this up again? Some things should be just left alone. If I see those vicious threads get bumped up, I will delete them. Soxtalk does not move foreward by continuing to rip apart the scars of healing to expose wounds afresh. Some people are not here because of hate and lies they posted. Others are not here because of all that happened for whatever reason. Others are not here for reasons that are no one's business. Some are here with a lot of the joy sucked out of them. Why would this be re-opened? I will delete those trash threads if they get bumped up because the only way that things will settle and some thinhs healed is if we leave alone what should be left alone and go forward into the future without being re-encumbered by the past. Go back and read them if you have to - hang out in the morgue to watch bodies decompose - visit parents of murder victims and say, tell me how it was whn you found it, experience your pain again - do it all - but I will kill any thread that gets bumped up from those times because enough is f***ing enough and those threads should have been handled differently then and if given a new shot, I will do it now. And I suppose the logical thing is if you see someone elsewhere, ask them in private, and not keep bringing up things that are painful here. please, please.
  21. I was at the local bar playing NTN (ask sox2k4) when the crawl on the bottom of the screen said Colon signed elsewhere. I thought since Sox offered arbitration, that wouldn't happen. My understanding of the rules or what took place is obviously flawed. Did Colon reject the arbitration offer thus making him free to sign elsewhere? Or is it something else that I missed or am wrong on?
