  1. Agreed In the naming right deal, JR extended the Sox lease at USCF until 2022 or something like that. Which means JR, when he didn't have to, ensured by contract the Sox will stay in Chicago long after he is dead. As oft as we have almost lost the franchise, I thank JR greatly for that as much as I am not a JR fan. And for the next 12 year old who says "MLB will never let the Sox move" try telling that to the fans of the Boston Braves, Milwaukee Braves, Seattle Pilots, Washington Senators - both teams, Philly As, KC As, Brooklyn Dodgers, NY Giants, and need I go on? And we can discuss it at an NFL game in LA, maybe some LA team (the LA Rams, maybe) hosting the Chicago Cardinals. And then we can fly back to Chicago to see our NBA team, the Zephyr Jets - oh wait, they are now the Balitomore Bullets - oh wait, they now play in DC - The criticism of JR would be something one could listen to if it were fair and objective and not such knee jerk self entitlement one sided whining.
  2. Your hate is misguided (you really hate? Really hate? Shouldn't an emotion like hate be reserved for poverty, hunger, children dying in war or of malnutrition?) JR would have signed Clemens. The person who made that call was Schueler, on the grounds that Clemens was washed up and Navarro had the better future. Had Schueler recommended and signed Clemens, JR would have paid for Clemens. Simple facts. Back to the hatefest.
  3. 1. Agree 2. Disagree - will still never be forgiven 3. So?
  4. it has to be a joke. Thank you for your wise comments throughout this thread.
  5. Jas, finishing 1st once, 2nd 4 years and 3rd once in 6 years is not the definition of mediocre. As you know I travel 205 miles one way to get to my place to USCF. I attend some 30 games a season and have the split seasons tickets plan. I yield to no one in my being a true fan, no one. The only thing I can demand of the Sox is that they be competitive. There are a lotof teams out there who have not had close the the success we have had. In the past 4 seasons we had one division championship, had an injury marred season and still finished 2nd, came back and had a decent season, and competed until mid September in the 4th. That by definition is not medicore. It is by definition competitive. I have had many wonderful experiences at USCF. I have shared good times with family and friends. I have had a lot of fun at SoxFests. I have met a lot of wonderful people (and a very few deeply disappointing people). If the Sox never win a world series in my lifetime will my life be any less meaningful? Ask the Bulls fans here - did their lives magically change when 6 NBA championships were won? Or is it that was last decade's news and what have you done for me lately? What a person truly gets out of being a fan of anything matches one's realism. I am a fan of the Sox and love the Sox and have gotten more out of being a Sox fan than I could put back. What that is are indelible memorioes and experiences that I could have gottn no other way. And the Sox have been competitive. Would you rather have the Brewers' record the last 6 years? Or the Pirates'? Or the Royals'? Or the Expo's? Or the Phil's? Or Detroit's? Or Texas? Or even the Cubs? A lot of people have no idea what mediocre is and an incredible sense of self-entitlement. As someone pointed out recently, the same fans who b**** because they can't sit in a seat they did not pay for and are mad because they have to sit in the seat they did pay for and won't spend an extra $6 want Sox ownership to spend tens of millions - a tad hypocritical. Bart Giamatti said that baseball is designed to break your heart. If people can't take the fact that every team but one each year ends up as a "loser" and some teams, not just us, have gone very long times without ending as a "winner" one better have a good grip on their own self about what being a winner and a loser is all about. A lot of the - how can I say, whiners who think they are owed something - would never have survived the 1970 season. Or anything from 1968 through 1983. Or the late 80s. My love and my joy in the Sox was not less in 1970 than it was in 2000. I'd prefer a 2000 finish to a 1970 finish every time. But whatever happens, my inner self knows that this is sport, an entertainment, and if I let my blood pressure and life get wrecked by an entertainment, then it is not the team but me who is the loser. My thrill at being with friends or family when the Home Run of the Century is played when I am sitting (actually, at that point, standing and clapping) in my seats - that is a rush that make my being there with those I care for, that makes me a winner. Regardless of anything else.
  6. we haven't finiushed below 3 and only once below 2nd for the last 6-7 years, that is hardly mediocre chill out
  7. when have I complained "the team sucks"????????? If I were to say that, I would say it more eloquently but I haven't said that. Haven't said they are good either. I am not remotely sorry that I disagree with your stay at home theory. I do not think that attending games and supporting my team and enjoyiong the time with friends and family is a bad thing under any circumstances but I do know low attendance is a precursor to no payroll and a team moving when you boycott the Sox, exactly what does that mean? How many tickets have you personally bought over the past 10 years, each year? And by the way, I am no JR apologist but I have also met the man and talked to the man and I disagree with you on your great insights into a person you've never met. I think JR wants to win, and wants to win a lot. I have not agreed with the way that he has gone about it, but I do not question his character.
  8. real fans go to games going to games is a part of my way of life not going to games is a vote to have the franchise moved to another city and there is nothing in the world that will keep me from spending time with my grandson and my friends and family at USCF from April through September and the occasional October - those are memories and good times that cannot be replaced
  9. you found the NTN listings for my bar? Wow! remember tonight is bonus night - there are 10,000 points to be earned from 7-10 pm and I am going to go tonight again and get them all! I play an hour every day at lunch plus Tuesdays - that is an easy 20,000 - I intend to take 2nd place from that interloper before my 1 year anniversary on February 19 -
  10. The gnostic level hear is beastly
  11. I don't know the local number - bar name is Huckleberrys You can guess the handle...
  12. I don't vote on those categories - I used to, now I let them pick their own poison. A few weeks ago the choices were classic rock and r&b and the other people looked at me and my age and went "r&b" figuring I'd know all the classic rock (which I would). The question was: Innerscope artist sings "In da Club." They outsmarted themselves - they knew nothing about rap but I know Em's protege. You are totally right about knowing how to answer. A lot of games you can eliminate an answer or two just by logic and then knowing the internal clues... Being able to reason the way you do is the key to success. I play probably more than you but they go in themes perhaps by accident - lot of John Wayne questions lately.
  13. true story: how I first heard of Eminem before any of you - I am a legal assistant and member of the state bar and monitor the defense attorney list, have done for years. Before the Slim Shady LP came out and anyone heard of him, some attorney posted that 'I am from Missouri and I have a client who wants to sue her rapper son for liberl, slander for saying she's a drugger alkie negligent parent sex crazed pill popping whore who abused her children.' The case info got forwarded and in a bout a week, like "warning warning Will Robinson" (you old enough to get that reference?) a bunch of Detroit area attorneys began posting, "don't take the mother's case, the rapper son has said all those things and his defense will be it is the truth and he will win." After I heard that from 6 or 7 attorneys who suually leap to take cases like that, I began to wonder who the mystery rapper was and what was he saying. Then Slim Shady LP hit... Mom did sue, and lose. In fact there is a cottage industry of people suing Em for what he says about them and Em defends by saying its the truth and Em always wins - just won one with the guy Em claimed beat him up daily and bullied him all through 7th grade. The dude denied it, said Em was slandering him, and then they opened up the school records... another slam dunk win for Marshall Mathers. (The judge did that decision in rap - funny as hell.) There is the sense that for once, all the bullies, all the two bit tyrants, drug and sex obessed parents, all the rotten people, had no idea they were being rotten to that little skinny kid who was just like all the little skinny kids who get punched around and ridiculed and tripped in the hall and stuffed in the toilet excpet for one thing - this little skinny kid grew up to be the world's best rapper and has Dr Dre producing him. So the bullies are getting called out and they hate it. A true definition of poetic justice.
  14. you wouldn't catch me as I lose it because I will have 1 point more than I need to hold you off! Actaully it is not so much the head to head competition at the local bar simply because I have none. That is not sayng I am that smart, just the locals are less so. What freaks me is to be at 12,300 with 2 questions left and think I can can get a 14,300 - so naturally I get a 143 and a 222 on the next two questions. When I start off behind I usually make my move questions 4-10 and look for the one question I can break their spirits on - something like who wrote Ship of Fools or any Biblical question or something I will get that they won't. ANd then I pad on questions 11-13 so I can coast. Here's a tip: if it is a musical group you never heard of in a genre of who knows, the answer is Midnight Oil. Confronted with the names of 5 country male singers, go with Travis Tritt. On the science fiction game, always pick 4 and if that gets eliminated, work up - usually good strategy for a 5000 game. what is your NTN name again?
  15. that's great to see your name up there, isn't it? we should play teams - get the cell phones going some Saturday and yell the answers back and forth - usually playing cooperatively with someone adds a few hundred points - I sometimes go with 2 friends and we all help each other - our goal is always to finish the top 3 - it at least has a modicum of sharing that way - as for these women bossing you about - maybe it is why I am single but I wouldn't allow it - the real frosty look and the icy "I am playing my game" voice does it with my friends - the only time I ever left a game early was when my grandson said he was going to barf in a moment (he was playing another video game and was rather flushed).
  16. by the way, I know the thrill of a close down to the wire game but I crack under pressure - I work really hard to have an unsurmountable lead by the 13th or 14the question - a few months ago I lost a game in which I had a 200 point lead with 1 question left and missed a 14,650 game and voctory by 8 points - I just couldn't see the right answer, I get too hyper. If you stayed cool in the battle, great! I am not your guy for that. Never put me on the free throw line down by 1 with a chance to shoot 2. Never line me up with .01 second left and me needed in to kick the winning field goal. And watch how hard I work to get that 1000+1 lead by the 15th question so I can avoid choking!
  17. SS2k4, congrats on the 13,500!!!! here's your challenge to take it to the next level I am 3rd in my bar (and only because two people transferred their points from another bar to ours so they could be in 1st and 2nd) - I'll take care of them - and I've only been doing points since February 19th. I took over 3rd place (the real local 1st place) last Wednesday. And I've finished in the top 10 national lots of times but knocked off an 11th place finish at lunch today... now that I've been an asshole, 13,500 is a damn good score and while I like to average about 13,000, last month (November) I didn't hit 13,500 in the regular game at all - scored better than that in the jukebox and movie and tv games and the other special games but just couldn't hit it once all month in the regular - did pull a 13,900 earlier this month and would have had a 14,300 if I had been playing the game and not watching KSU beat OU. And I also dropped 3 games to one of the local assholes who try really hard to beat me cuz I was so involved watching the game I missed a couple of questions. As soon as the game ended, my opponent left - mid NTN game - at least that was a moral victory but I am going to burn his ass next time I see him in there What was your national finish on the 13,500? But what the hell, you are 500 away from moving up and you didn't play another game?????????? Do I have to come sown there and slap you? You got someone 500 points away you stay for another 30 minutes and knock them out - other than sex at home that has to happen right now or not at all, there is no other reason to leave just 500 points behind!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. For the record (pun), nowhere in the lyrics of Cleaning Out My Closets does Eminen speak of killing his mother - nowhere. The video does the imagry of a grave being dug but the allusion there is to - what? The death of Ronnie? The emotional and psychological death that every child feels when abused by parents, especially when a parent says to the child, "I wish you were dead" or "I wish you never were born." The video shows a grave - interpret as one wishes. Anyway - is there one poster here who can truthfully say that they never wished their parents dead? The subject of killing one's parents in literature is as old as writing. It is in the ancient Greek stuff, ancient Mesapotamian texts, in the Bible, anywhere one looks, Shakespeare (one of the themes of Lear among other places), alive and well in the current day.
  19. I'm with you - I do not care for cats but cruelty to any animal disturbs me - or more accurately, is a sign of a disturbance - I assume most/all people here are posting in fun and if not I really don't want to know however, one sign of a child who has severe pyschoses developing is by exhibiting cruelty to animals - not the very young child act that fanof14 spoke of but the glee that some have in cruelty towards something they can have power over

again sorry I lost your original post - trust me you are no dips*** - whenever anything Em happens, there are usually several threads that have my name in the thread title or first or second post - have no idea why....
  21. you are all children, babies actually... Lather was thirty years old today, They took away all of his toys. His mother sent newspaper clippings to him, About his old friends who'd stopped being boys. There was Harwitz E. Green, just turned thirty-three, His leather chair waits at the bank. And Seargent Dow Jones, twenty-seven years old, Commanding his very own tank. But Lather still finds it a nice thing to do, To lie about nude in the sand, Drawing pictures of mountains that look like bumps, And thrashing the air with his hands. But wait, oh Lather's productive you know, He produces the finest of sound, Putting drumsticks on either side of his nose, Snorting the best licks in town, But that's all over... Lather was thirty years old today, And Lather came foam from his tongue. He looked at me eyes wide and plainly said, Is it true that I'm no longer young? And the children call him famous, And the old men call him insane, And sometimes he's so nameless, That he hardly knows which game to play... Which words to say... And I should have told him, "No, you're not old." And I should have let him go on...smiling...babywide.

I was moving your post over to here and accidently lost it - sorry!!!!!!!!! - your post: I don't mean to start a fight, but I recall a post were you seem upset that someone made a reference to a certain rapper threating to kill the president. There is a story in today's Sun-Times that you might be interested in reading. On page 35 it says the Secret Service is listening closely to Eminem's infinished song "We are American." Have you heard this song or anymore about it? my response to your question: I call protective Services and tell them your parents are feeding you rat poison for dinner and have your sibs in the basement in cages and that will be investigaed - just because something is "investigated" hardly makes it so. Anything will be checked. If I wrote to the Secret Service and tell them you wish the president dead, they will investigate both of us. Doesn't make it true. This topic has been done to death enough and also belongs in another forum and I shall move it accordingly. And No, I have not heard the song, and Mr. Eye makes the best comment anywhere in another thread and that will be my response.
