just as a point of reference: all circuit court and in fact all court proceedings are public documents except in very rare instances, and I mean, very rare. The Ryan divorce was one of those very rare exceptions. It is a fraction of well less than 1% of divorce proceedings that all the pleadings are not public. Sealed proceedings are always curious. Why? Why are these sealed when the practice is that they not be? It is irrelevant who originally requested that these be sealed. A candidate for the US Senate - one of 100 available nationwide - from a major state population wise where change of party is possible in an electiuon year where control of the Senate is at stake - frankly is risking a lot running with sealed divorce proceedings or sealed proceedings of any kind. The divorce pleadings of any posters here or their parents are public record, we could all go down to the country clerk and get them, why wouldn't those be open pertaining to a US Senate candidate? The original claim by the candidate is as Baggio said. The candidate told Eric Zorn of the Tribune and others that the records were sealed because it concerned his special needs child. That was a lie. It is incorect to state that Ryan did not want the proceedings unsealed because it would effect his child. Ryan's public claim was that the sealed records were about his child. There is a huge difference in those claims. And it is a matter of public record. The records were sealed because they concerned allegations of sexual impropiety by Ryan. I suggest baggio is correct that had Ryan began his campaign by petitioning the court to unseal the records, that this would have been a non issue. It was the news media who petitioned the court to unseal the records. The news media has a duty and obligation to do that. It is not only the traditonal obligation to ask questions but indeed it in enshrined in the constitution, the rights of the press, and in this instance under the Freedom of Information legislation because in fact court records are not sealed so the reason for sealing is a matter of public interest when it involves a candidate for the Senate. The question is not should divorce records be unsealed. They are extraordinarily rarely ever sealed, so when it happens for a person who volunteers to be in the public eye and be judged by the electorate for one of the most important legislative offices in the country, the question is, why are these sealed. The court acted when Ryan dropped his objections to unsealing portions of the records. Blair Hull, a Democrat, went flaming down in the Illinois primary pertaining to things regarding his divorce. Now it has happened to a Republican a few months later. Equal opportunity. Politically the Dems got locky that their crashed candidate happened before the primary. But the same media that inquired into the Hull case had to look into the Ryan matter or else they would have been acting unfairly to just look into matters pertaining to the candidate of one party and ignoring it from another. There is much in the Ryan case still sealed. The released pleadings contained much blacked out portions, more blocked than released. For anyone here to assert that they know what all of the allegations (allegation is a legal term of art, it is not an accusation) and responses are is to assert a knowledge that is not public, privy only to the court, the Ryans, and their attorneys. The private sexual lives of Jefferson, Jackson, Cleveland, among others were issues in the 18th and 19th centuries. This is hardly some new thing in America. Gary Hart's 1988 presidential campaign crashed over sexual matters. In Texas (I believe) currently the ex spouse of a US Representative is running against him. To be shocked, shocked that Ryan's sealed records would become an issue reminds me of the shock shock that that there was gambling at Ricks American Cafe in Casablanca. It happens all the time. This was not some private citizen who was outed. This was a person who said make me a US Senator. He didn't see this coming? No wonder the Illinois Republican Congressional delegation met with the Republican Speaker of the House and unanimously agreed Ryan had to step down. No wonder the Republican county chairs were chiming in that Ryan had to go. Just as in 1972 the Democratic candidate for vice president had to resign the ticket when it was discovered that he had not been fully honest about his past - not what he did per se but that he was not fully honest about it - so it has happened again. And it will happen again. And again. It will happen whenever there is less than full disclosure for a person who wants to hold a position of great political importance.

yo baggio! about time you showed up again! you have been missed! PM me, email me, let me know how I can reach you and tell me what's going on with you my friend! Fans of U of Washington who go to many away games assure me that that think Michigan was the best treatment they ever got and far away the worst school for bad behavior is Oregon.

maybe get Andy the Clown back to do that?

no, it was not that's why they call you Ill-whine-is. hell, seriously, we lost to Illinois in 1999 under really bizarre circumstances and it was really tough - you have those through the years, you play enough - fumble or not, Illinois was dead tired and Michigan was operating at peak performance so the game ended properly, just as the year before it also ended properly with us losing to Illinois because they were making the 4th quarter plays and we didn't. In fact, I was so mad at the way the 99 game ended (because we played so badly when Illinois suddenly got hot) I wanted that game back, which is why I went to the 2000 game. Since I believe in the cheer my team but no taunt rule, I walked with my Illini friends/hosts (student and his father) through campus post game and what was there to taunt about? I know exactly how they felt - the year before it was me and my UM friends being stunned by 4th quarter miracle heroics feeling that empty at game end - one year the ball bounces your way, the next year someone else's way - nothing to fight about we got back to the student's apartment and proceeded to set up our plan for ordering Sox playoff tickets - those cable connestions at Illinois were new and smoking hot and between them and the cell phone when not that many people yet had cell phones we managed to snag all kinds of 2nd round tickets when they went on sale the next morning and later that day we (you and I and the Sox we) clinched the title -

its a long story - not for now - Illinois was more trash talk than usual at other team's places but it was special circumstances that led to that being potentially ugly at the end of the game (2000), however, a large group of us in maize and blue stood together and waited until the Illini fans left but I was not impressed really at all by the football fan attitude at Illinois -- but until game end I didn't feel anyone was going to jump me - visiting the oither schools and seeing their campus and tradition is fun, and Illinois has a beautiful campus, really impressed by it. trust me, Michigan fans have a long standing special place in their, ah, affection for Illinois, goes back to the 1980 or 81 game - everyone does that Muck Fichigan. I give Illinois credit for having the most obscene and wickedly funny tshirts I ever saw mocking Michigan, there was some creative wit went into that - something the folks at Iowa or OSU would never have, creativity - damn was it foul but it was funny!

this the best advice ever

UM-MSU is never bad in any sport. Some mouthing off but nothing major - it usually is literally a family member who is the closest person to with the other team's jersey! Plus we play too much in too many sports to be all hostile all the time.
-
Righfully so? I am sure there are obnoxious Wings fans and I am sure there are obnoxious Black Hawk fans. And it is not a squid. It is octopi. Used during Stanley Cup playoffs. I will pass up the obvious comment to simply say obnoxiousness does not come in one team's colors only and fighting is never right. It is a game, It is a sport. The person who gets so riled they have to throw a punch at a game is a person who seriously needs a life.
-
when I go to away games I wear our colors - and act like a guest in their house, as you say, politely cheer - I have had great conversations with folks at USCF in other team colors - and great conversations with fans when I was at their place - and outside of one time at Illinois football (and there were special circumstances there) never ever threat threatened. I think people respect that you are there to respectfully follow your team because they do the same. one time on the skyway toll booth on my way to USCF for a game against Baltimore I am pulling up with my Michigan license plates WHTESOX and next to me pulls up a car Indiana plates ORIOLES. We high fived and laughed - it is a sport after all.

ELo on 3 days rest when he wasn't that sharp last Sunday?
-
thank you! that says something about one supposed in the know source... thank you very much - nice to get the word from someone who is worthy of trust
-
because of his negative columns? I heard variously that he got into an argument with someone, a player at USCF and that he never came to the park anyway. I was just wondering what the reason was for not renewing.
-
I didn't know that - any story there you can share?
-
cool! best way I think to put our veteran catcher in for the first game with a new team
-
good points
-
potential and attitude that's why he has tried him at just about every position
-
sorry but on the banner he looks like billy koch to me
-
I am sitting here debating in my mind: potential and non delivery: Inge vs Borchard Inge might be hard to get from the Tigs because he is Trammel's boy but who knows, Trammel ain't GM either
-
he's cute but no thank you. I just saw he is on the 15 day DL - and on ESPN it quotes stats inc (whoever the hell they are) as saying Trammel sees a lot in him, obviously but didn't have him catch much last year either - he was opening day catcher in 2001 or 2002 and couldn't hold it - I am trying to find where he played minor league ball - I know I saw him in Grand rapids but not sure if was a White Cap (great name, huh) or a visiting Tiger I have seen Inge a lot on tv and who am I to disagree with you and Jas and Alan Trammel but he seems like the biggest case of potential not making it that I have seen in a long time - almost Ruffcorn like. Seems like a nice guy, if he ever gets it going -
-
he throws a complete game no hitter victory or I start a "Garcia sucks" thread and rant and rave about how he is no damn good
-
we know why Burke was called up and we carried 3 catchers and I think Burke will be ok I always miss Brook Fordyce at Cubs time, he hated them and loved beating them

I suppose it depends on the percentage of one's life four years is! and cheat, you are right, I had forgotten that
