  1. Let's replace KW with Cal Ripken. A son of a coach, an illustrious history, knows the game as well as anyone and the relaities of it, and he wanted to be a GM in Baltimore which stiffed him -- replace KW with Ripkin.
  2. a group of us must leave our jobs and go to every Sox game, all 162, in the regular season. Every time Mags comes to bat, we sing O-E-O as always. If we sing the Mags O-E-O in 81 non comiskey games, people will know who he is. I'm in, who else?
  3. I would agree with that - a good signing for SF and a player that I woudln't have minded in case AR isn't ready or for when he needs day off. What's done is done. Maybe Ray Ray won't be playing outfield in SF after all.
  4. Right on my brother! Jason, I'm sorry to disagree with you, you know I respect the hell out of you for so many reasons. Just like for Mormons, you give your two years of service but only for your country and when it is over, school will still be there. We havent has the draft since it officially ended on 30 June 1973 if I am correct on the date. For 30 years we have raised citizens in the midst of much material abundance as we all sit at our computers and it is time that we start reminding people again that there is a price for this freedom and this country. Let no one say it isn't fair, it isn't just, they didn't plan for it - the people who died on11 September didn't want their lives interrupted and the innocent civilians and the members of the rank and file military in Iraq who will be killed, the conscripts, not there by choice, and they don't their lives interrupted either. Or to be killed so students and drink and get trashed and do drugs and get wasted and have sex and prepare for lucrative careers without interruption. Whatever encourages people to consider the cost and how thsoe on the other side might feel, I am for - God Bless America and 2 year compulsory service for everyone - maybe especially for those who go to universities that we pay for with our taxes so that can earn big money later in ours system, time to say thank you with universal service. With me Baggio? (And Bags, am I getting all sarcastic tonight?)
  5. If I ever thought you were serious I would have you commited.
  6. When Fay Vincent was fired, one person lobbied very hard to get that job of commissioner, that person really wanted the job, and there is not a day that goes by that I don't deeply regret that this person didnt get the job and was still holding that job. Damn, one reason to really hate Bud Selig is that he decided to out-manuever the person who wanted the job, and keep himself in it permanently. But for that asshole Bud Selig, G W Bush would have been baseball commissioner. Not only would be have a better president today (I say, ducking your punch ) but not ever G W Bush could have f***ed up baseball as much as Selig has. There would have been no All Star game ties under G W Bush. That was so much the right job for him... Bud Selig, :fyou
  7. 1. Psycho, you can better than that. We all love our country. That is not at issue. What we think our country should do in this situation and in its total relationship to the world is at issue. By the way, I am one of those who definitely want the draft re-instated, for everyone, and f*** no, no student deferments anymore. I want every one there to have their ass on the line and that may begin to influence their thinking. And I want everyone to be involved in government service, no more f***ing free rides for those who are too busy scheming to get their first million and whine about being too busy or better than othrs - everyone serves. Everyone. Why should my son the Marine or the grads of West Point (so to speak) be the only ones with their asses on the line? Everyone serves. Write to your congressal representative and tell her/him to support Rep. Rangel's bill to reinstate the draft, a universal draft. 2. If you are referring to the post WW1 Palmer Raids, I am impressed. Our deportation of people then was one of the most shameful times in American history since the Alien and Sedation Act under John Adams.
  8. J, twice since last September this administration has gone out of its way to state it would use nuclear weapons on a first-strike basis: in the Bush Doctrine of last September, a very intentional release given it is intended as Bush's official policy, and then a few months in a Dept. of Defense statement that specificaly rejected Mutually Assured Destruction as US nuclear policy and adopted First Strike. I do believe that if Bush launches a first strike, the last thing any of us will think will probably not be about voting in the next election - more like, "wow what a flash....." By the way, that is why Bush's hands are somewhat tied in North Korea. If NK has nuclear weapons, or even if they don't, they have missiles very easily capable of hitting South Korea everywhere and killing 10s of millions. But the use of force in Iraq, nuclear or otherwise, will undoubtedly result in retailiation against the US, probably by terrorism, repeatedly. I know that Bush thinks if he says "Don't mess with Texas" enough it will scare others away but it won't. And when terror retaliation comes against the US, Bush will be hiding as he did before and Cheney will be hiding as he did before and you and I will be kissing our asses goodbye and I'll never get to see if the Sox win the series this year. (But Bush is stupid, the terrorists will find him, all they have to do is follow the liquor delievery truck convoy bringing the twins their daily alcohol and the Bush hideout will be found.) The UN is the best secular hope we have for the world. We are not alone in this world; other peoples live here too, and in fact, there are a hell of a lot more of them than us. If we don't talk together - what?
  9. what time zone? Are you talking 12 Eastern? 11 Eastern is non-network (local news) - I'll never see it then. I watch Letterman.
  10. Eminem said f*** You Ms Cheney f*** you Tipper Gore quite some time ago, in White America. Love that song... And Em really ripped into Joe Liberman on his in concert video that opened the Em portion of the Anger Management Tour 2002. After seeing that the only way that I could vote for Lieberman is if he was on the ballot against Bush. That killed my support of him in the primaries. By the way, as the vice harir of our country's Democratic party, I could tell you a lot that is wrong with the Dems, but the canididtae of only one party can beat Bush in the next election. Moral purity in that type of voting got us Bush elected in 2000. :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou Ralph Nadar and everyone who voted for you
  11. 2 one line quips in 2 years is hardly the mouthing off of a malcontent. How many other pro athletes would have gone on extended public tantrums last year - or this year? Given it all, MB has said very, very little.
  12. I don't believe that is necesarily so. That is not the word that I have gotten from the Buehrle family. And I take their word over conjecture.
  13. I think we do use weapons of mass destruction to make a point. And the so-called Bush doctrine of September 2002 calls for first use of all means, including nuclear, all weapons of mass destruction at our disposal. And since the current administration keep reserving to itself the right to ignore the UN Security Council and do whatever it wants, that makes us very liable to use weapons of mass destrution at any moment.. Whether we have used them for peace or for preserving and expanding our hegemony is a very debatable point. Just the US does it does not make it right. And one loves their country no less when one points out what we are doing wrong. And Psycho, indeed their are times and places and situations were if I on the other side of a US action, I could and would call the US a terrorist nation. And that bothers me as an American. In our history we are no pure unique things in the world. And everyone, I think the discussion has been wonderful, people are speaking from their hearts, and we are disagreeing without vitriol and rancor. It is good when we as Americans can discuss the issues that confront our nation in such a reasonable manner. A lot of people couldn't do what you all are doing here.

wsc is a list maker - every time we have a change in players, as we just have with the new signings, wsc revises his list - everybody does their thing - it is cool by me, wsc, I know when I read your posts that I may encounter a list In my own head I am not a list maker because I feel as Mr. S does, that it is too early to do it, but that is the way you think about things and we all have our own ways of doing stuff, so what works for you is cool by me - list away!
  15. Yep, I will be there. Either coming in my SUV or huge's big giant Ram pickup. Want to meet for a whale sandwich? I don't care what you drive down in - and I thought you only ate those deep fried fat things covered with powdered suger that they sell at Comiskey!
  16. Why do I feel like singing, "Bless the beats and the children..." I'll see you Friday night, right?
  17. Roiting I agree. It is very counter productive. Marching, no I do not agree. Demonstrations can do a lot of good, have a lot of impact, in mobilizing public opinion, as American history shows. That is why the right to freely assemble is guarenteed in the constitution. What happened in Oakland was all about alcohol and being high and being stupid. Same as happened last November in Columbus and has happened elsewhere from time to time. It was just an excuse to go out and be assholes. However, I did like the line of Craig Kilbourne ealry this morning: Rioters in Oakland burned down parts of the city, causing $250,000 in improvements to the city of Oakland..." Be all you can be...
  18. Psycho, I will not accept some non military chicken telling me to throw myself in the front of a tank because I oppose the war. No way in hell. You want to got to West Point, do it! My son is a Marine, everyone has to follow their vocation! I'll celebrate and rejoice when you graduate because that will be way cool! What grinds me is big talkers about war who always have some excuse for not enlisitng and putting their body where their mouth is while they make vicious attacks against people who oppose war. I detested that during Vietnam and I detest it now.
  19. Hey dude, I am against the war. My son is a marine, by the way. When your ass is in the front lines, then you can have that opinion as a man. As long as you are sitting at home all safe and comfy, you are a hypocrite for what you post. If you believe what you say, enlist. Enlist now. Back up your words with your actions. Enlist and fight the war that you support rather than watch sports amnd post on message boards and send off other people to kill and die. What a f***ing hypocrite. Big mouth, no actions.
  20. Jason my friend, I am not sure what you referring to in your post, the Kurds never tried to take over the world in any way shape or form - the Kurdish population is scattered among several countries, inclluding Iraq and Turkey, and in those countries their culture has been repressed by law. And as I recall 1978-79, the only thing of note those years as it pertains to this diuscussion was perhaps the Iranian revolution. In the midst of those Cold War years, no one was trying to take over the world. So I am at a real loss to know what you are making reference to.
  21. Zach -- can I put a "Save the whales" bumper sticker on your SUV?
  22. Baggio, damn do I almost compeltely agree with you - it should be six games, 3 each home and away, against that designated rival. That thats all the inerleague play I want til the world series.
  23. Loyalty - from whom to whom? The Sox via KW have treated MB with no loyalty, no respect. MB has opitched as well as is possible for us despite that. If there were loyalty in baseball, KW wouldn't have screwed MB over the $15,000 last season nor offered the identical contract (barely over the league minimum) to MB again. Loyalty has to be a 2 way street. It would be great for KW to show MB some loyalty.
  24. MB loves the Sox, in terms of team, fans, things like that. He would stay forever if he gets treated right. And one thing (of many) that I like about mB is that after what happened with the $15,000 last year, he still went out and got 19 wins and never a word in public of b****ing or show boating or griping, and of course, there have no MB quotes his year either - he keeps his mouth shut and plays ball and bides his time. I don;t think any permanent damage has been done yet, nothing that can't be undone vis a vis the Sox and MB, but I sure wish KW would do the right thing now rather than leave it still as it is.
