  1. Sideshow, great post back to you. Normally I am a bit more diplomatic but given the provacation you had. go for it. Who cares about corporate evil as long as it gets naming rights for stadiums for sports and games, right! I want you to know this: my son is a Marine and will be in the first wave of any ground action that comes. Every week when my Sox-loving and I go out, I think about will happen if anything happens to that child's father, how it will affect us all. And I think about all the children and families in Iraq who are thinking the same things. Which is why I have the peace flag in my window attached to my son's Marine banner, and why I have the "Fight Iraq? No" bumper sticker on the jeep. And thus I love your poster. I for one am not willing that any child, or any child's family, be killed in a fight of macho men over oil. (I prefer my competitions to be on playing fields, not where people's lives will be discarded as casually as confetti.)
  2. First f***ing post and you are calling others out? What does WIU stand for, Way Ignorant University? I don't normally call out other posters, and try to present my thoughts without attacking others - for you to make your first post attacking someone is the mark of real asshole. A real asshole. So f*** you. (And by the way, I for one am damn proud to be a liberal. All of what we consider great about this country comes from liberal democratic (small d) thinking and compassion for others. ANd when you want to scream anbd whine and reply as to how can I be a liberal and call you an asshole? Because you have introduced yourself as one.)
  3. I can't verify that they attack factories although I know a few that should be burned down. As for attacking SUVs, you are right, as ELF claims credit for that. http://www.earthliberationfront.com/main.shtml Keeping issues separate: I could not support the violence of ELF as I am against violence. I support their cause in principal but not their tactics. And I would have to evaluate their stands on particulars on an issue by issue basis. Like of a lot of well-intentioned groups I suspect by reading their website that they offer too extreme of an argument on a lot of things by reducing complexities to simplicities without regard for the balance of reality. (However I might occupy a tree sometime to prevent/protest the cutting down of an old growth forest, if they do that sort of thing. Spiking trees, if they are ones who do that, I am against in that it results in injury to workers who should not be the targets.) As for PETA, with whom I am more familiar, I am more aligned with in spriit but again I am not going to offer a blanket endorsement but someone needs to raise the issue of animal rights. I know I disagree with them on some things. I think they forget the balance of life on some things. If Petco gave ELF money, I am not too concerned. I am much more worried by such things as the big money given by the multinationals and corporations (such as ENRON and the pharmaceutical industry) to those who make public policy. Given the sums of money donated in soft money in the last campaign cycle and the issue of prescriptions prices, so-called tort reform, and, to say the least, war, whatever sums PETA is giving away is negligible in impact. As for Petco, they are assholes.

    Sorry

Yo, it wasn't a bad show at all. I enjoyed it well enough, there were some techno glitches but it is January, you guys will be in stride fast. Meanwhile I though everyone sounded fairly well spoken, and a thousand steps ahead of what I hear on almost all sports talk. I left your show on and watched the basketball game and if your radio show sucked, believe me I would have shut down the computer and just watched the game. Who sang the last song (that Brooklyn song) - never did know who sang it and just want you to know I listened to the end. As for other technical comments, give the email address more often and have everyone identify themselves once in a while. One person was too far from the mike (it seemed) and I didn't always catch what they said. Problem with low male voices is they get too bass like and hard to pick up, and one person was but it sounded as if they were far away. For non professionals everyone was very articulate in terms of pronunciations and articulations as well as in concise thinking that did ramble not go on and on but made a point succinctly and well. I enjoyed the discussion of the NFL vs the Black Hawks on enforcing what a player represents and actually thought that discussion raised some issues that I hadn't thought of, and was funny the way it ended on whether it is ok to drink if you look at boobs. The subtle shift from a serious conversation to a humorous (yet not dwelling on junior high level s***) quip was great. Right amount of serious topic lightened with humor that was not puerile, a downfall of a lot of sports (and all) talk shows which you guys avoided. in other words dude, I will listen to the show again NOT just to tell RPS and Guido that I listened so you won't think I was an asshole, I will listen agan because it was actually worth listening to. I got sense you guys were not pelased the way you ended but you thought it sucked bad because of the technical problems that wrecked your opening strides. It didn't. I know the feeling since I do a lot of s*** in public, twice a week usually and when it starts bad, you feel that you can't ever pull it back. But you all did.
  5. the bombing of globalization companies? Please explain what the ELF is and whatever the bombing of globalization companies means because I sure haven't been reading anyway about any terrorist acts against multi nationals so I am unaware of what you mean here. As for as Petco, they are assholes. Pure and simple. Not liking PETA does not excuse Petco for being tremendous assholes. It is possible to dislike PETA and hate Petco. And why shouldn't PETA raise their issues at the Super Bowl? The whole f***ing country does. Is the Super Bowl some sort of holy thing that is worthy only for big corporations to pay $2.1 mil a minute to advertise but a non profit organization can't raise its issues? Give me a break. So far the PETA thing is the only aspect of the Super Bowl that is not about materialism and instant product graitification, and I say that as someonewho si a major football fan who has seen every Super Bowl since the first one and won't be missing tomorrow's game either. PETA gets some things right and some things wrong. I am not a member nor will ever be. I disagree with them a good deal. But I respect their passion and the issues that they raise even though I disagree with them on strategies and methods in some areas. I prefer their values to a lot of what I see out there in the world today.
  6. Point #1: I hadn't caught that and you did, good insight, thanks! Point #2: I am not saying KW was mastermind or not. I have no idea and a lot of contradictory reports out there. My earier point, not stated well, was just because one news report has JR crediting KW means nothing because of course JR will say that to keep his GM happy. However, that does not mean that I do not believe that KW was behind it. The Trib suggested KW was and I lean towards that but as I said, I really don't know and have heard too many different things. If you would like to suggest that the KW haters rejected out of hand any credit for what KW does good, I will agree. I have been a bit more on KWs side than most fans - which is to say, neutral - until the MB thing. But I don't consider a lot of people here ignorant, people just disagree on interpretation when reviewing the same set of facts.
  7. so who is on now, who am I listening to?
  8. There are a lot of players that would gross everyone out without shirts - David Wells - Wilbur Wood - Mickey Lolich - and I am not even trying. And Colon now. Tell the girls that there is a difference between what they might find in a Men of Baeball sports calendar and what real life presents us with.
  9. The assholes are the ones who are responsible for the inhumane conditions of the pet mills that Petco runs. That someone points that out is quite alright.
  10. I am glad you mentioned Bobby Knoop because I was going to yell at you for that omission - - he was not Nellie but a damn fine 2nd baseman - as for the rest, I am confused as to why anyone would be all over us for not giving KW credit. At best, the jury is still out on him, since 2001 was all injuries and 2002 we ended up at 500. And that is at best. At worst he has f***ed over a good team. If 2003 is a great season, then we can re-evaluate KW and if not, that will move some decisions about him in only one direction - but on a 1-10 scale, the most he can get is a 5, at most, and I know you and a lot of others would give him a 1 or 2. And I have stopped arguing that one... especially since the MB-let's-jerk-around-our-ace thing - someone on the MLB boards was screaming that JR gave KW all the credit for the Colon deal - well of course JR was going to say that. This season is make or break for KW.
  11. and u know me, I will have to have one in each color and then never wear them because they might get stained at the ballpark - just spent a little over $1000 get a closet redone so I have more storage room for all my Sox and Michigan stuff (and I guess things like clergy and every day go to work clothes...) just in time for SoxFest and a whole new season to buy more s*** that I never wear - I counted over 50 never worn Sox t-shirts and about 25 never worn baseball caps and found a WS athletic bag that I had forgotten I bought, two 83 style Sox shirts for the grandkid I forgot to give him and the WS scarves and knit caps that I was going to give him before winter... but the closet does look cool and who knows what else might be lurking there - I coulld probably set up a concession booth with all my unworn stuff.
  12. someone should have told Rowand the story of Wally Pipp - I had forgotten the Liefer-PK thing. It is fun to feel indestructable at 25 but when your livelihood depends on the shape and condition of your body, a little intelligence should prevail.
  13. Baggio, I just read your post on the MLB board. When did you take up drugs? Surely when you posted about the possibility of anyone keeping sam-me's "ego in check" you were tripping???????? That was the funniest thing that I ever read! :
  14. awesome, always a please to see you posting - I am expecting some serious party time with you next weekend --

    Deep thoughts…

you mean the current administration in DC?

    Deep thoughts…

soxheads, people throughout recorded time have worried about how the end will come and it hasn't happened yet. I give no thought to that because it is out of our (my) control and what defines life is not what may happen but what we do with what we have now. That doesn't mitigate being despressed about things though. That I know well.

    White Sox Nicknames

Why would you deny yourself a friend? More to the point, you have friends right now you are gay but they are not out to themselves yet perhaps, or more likely to you. And the question is not what you support - a person is what a person is. Do you support tall people or short people? What is important is that you are a friend to your friends, and not to live life in judgment of others as you do not want to be judged. If your generation uses words like that that often, I have lost some respect for them. The explanation of Manos makes sense to me. I usually refer to him as E6.

    Super Bowl Picks

    Oakland 21-10 MVP Charles Woodson
  20. that puzzles me too -- obviously we need to set up things to complain about.
  21. I think that would get Frank his 3rd MVP regardless of what Giambi did - and it would be way cool! But that may be a tad bit high. damn it, cause it would be so cool!

    White Sox Nicknames

i love jag off myself ..it fit so many situations Cubkilla and Bags, as far as I can tell, the phrase "jag off" is a purely Chicago phrase. The rest of the country refers to "jack offs." Have no idea why Chicago says it so uniquely, but its usage linguistically is pretty local. This is too much thinking academically this early in the day.

    White Sox Nicknames

Thank you HSC, that is my thinking too. Any insult based on what is essential to another person is a form of hate speech as unintended as that may be claimed. To say, "I don't mean it that way," then don't use it all. There are a whole lot more creative things to say that do not demean what is the essence or basic to another person. No one is so naive as to not realize that using the word gay as a synonym for stupid has a whole lot of implications, because what is the origin of the intended insult? What I really didn't get in this thread either was that every Sox fan has a list of nicknames that we call the players - hell, we revel in it given Hawk's way of speaking. All the really hip and in-crowd cool people on these boards call Jose Valentin "Manos" for reasons that still escape me. All that WSC did was make actually post a list of nicknames, and he got put down for it. That makes no sense. Especially on a message board where everyone goes by a nickname talking about a team where everyone has nicknames.
  24. sucks big time more jerseys to market and convince us we need, and the players are putting on a fashion show?
