  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 02:54 PM)
  2. Inception was super cool, but didn't really do it for me. Of course I'll give it a second viewing as well at some point. Still that's a little harsh, it's still a special flick 8/10.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Well I never... Friggin' Greenspan, always wanting to spread the wealth, haven't you ever heard of spending cuts!
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Lowering taxes RAISED (and always does...) the amount of money coming into treasury. Not according to the CBO http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/69xx/doc6908/12...rcentTaxCut.pdf Tax cuts do have stimulative effects, everyone agrees on that. But the tax cut itself results in an immediate and absolute reduction in government budgets.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) fair point. I know this tax is something that will never effect me, but I just dont like it. That's my opinion. Sacrifices need to be made, like Kap says. In such an individualistic country an estate tax is a hard sell, but isn't allowing relatives to inherit millions a clear disincentive for future generations to work, and achieve on their own?

    QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Anyone seen The Fourth Kind? I thought it was scary as hell,
  7. Where the heck was the pinch runner? A-Rod???? Hellllooooo!!! I'm gonna have to play the devil's advocate on this one. I enjoy the All-Star game, and like that some of the players actually seem to care about the game. Only major sports all-star game that's worth watching IMO.
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Because the executive branch doesn't have that kind of authority. Also, as imperfect as it is, for 220 years, the judicial system is the way that claims of this nature are handled. Whine about Exxon Valdez all you want, but that's a hell of a lot better then a dictate from one man telling blackmailing a company. Then BP shouldn't have paid. Politicians have put political pressure on people and organizations for eternities, and always will. That, and most Americans wanted Obama to be hard on BP. It's a no-brainer.

    Saw a matinee of Predators today. Pretty fun movie. There was a lot of cool stuff, but the subject matter doesn't exactly leave room for a very deep movie. A couple of times I found myself yawning during action scenes though.
  10. Let the record show that I think Katy Perry is all that and a bag of chips.
  11. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) Not with Mathis behind the plate, and 1 down and a man at third. Nevermind.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) rocket by Pierre to score the run. Steal 2nd, and let's have the same situation. Not with Mathis behind the plate, and 1 down and a man at third.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) Nice, DP. lol!
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) If Derek Jeter was traded to the Sox, would they put his picture on the screen and say "It's black and white"? lol!

    The Road, like the book, is tremendous.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) I understand Victor Martinez would have been the reserve if he wasn't injured (I'd consider him more of a DH than a C though)... but outside of Mauer and Martinez, there isn't a catcher in the AL better than Buck (and his .270 BA and .310 OBP) this season? You could probably make the case for Napoli, or Posada, but really Buck is a statistically sound pick. But seriously, what the heck is Omar Infante doing on this team?
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) But we get Ty Wigginton and Jose Bautista! When the f*** will MLB abolish the ridiculous rule of every team requiring at least 1 player? I don't mind the one team one player rule, but sheesh the Blue Jays actually get 3 schlubs on the team.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Big Boi - Shutterbug (Produced by Scott Storch) Thanks. I'm under no illusion about the show's downfalls, but I still like to watch the pretty people, their pretty houses and cars, and their silly lives for 25 minutes once a week.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Fine. Cut health care before it starts. Well if anything I hope what Obama has done actually makes Republicans examine the issue. They seem to be fairweather ideologues.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) It's always a great idea to create the biggest entitlement program in the history of the planet, and then tax the f*** out of everyone to pay for it. If Europe is discovering after 50 years that it doesn't work (i.e. they have to kill entitlements and now the people are getting uber pissed off because their nanny government can't take care of them anymore... waaaah waaaaah), what the hell makes you think that it will work here? Answer: it can't... but you'll not really understand that. Ummm, I'm not sure what words you're trying to put in my mouth, but I believe programs cuts combined with moderate tax increases will be necessary to bring some semblance of sanity back to American public finances. It's not really an ideological argument.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) So basically, let's translate this (bookmark this one, too NSS)... "If you don't support a VAT, taxes up the ass, and the rape of our treasury system, I'm going to call your bluff and call you to the carpet for not supporting all my entitlement programs and then after the fact and raising taxes so high that productivity may never recover." And notice it's always about ME, I, MYSELF... a little narcassitic... just a little. I don't think Obama was talking about a VAT. Of course it's probably a good idea, but whatever...
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) Despite the "craziness," I think he has a point. There IS a big shift in our way of thinking, and it's not based on party. It's been going on for decades. I'm pretty certain that the people of the United States in say 1950 would not have tolerated a President saying that we don't need to be the leader of the world or that the rich have the responsibility to give some of their earnings to people less fortunate. After reading dozens of Kap's points I certainly understand your feelings but I guess I disagree with the premise. Polls seem to show that more Americans are conservative than ever before. The Supreme Court is probably more conservative than it has been in decades. TV News media and radio news media is absolutely dominated by the right. And it basically took 8 years of a completely irresponsible White House to put Obama in charge. Now, it's looking likely that Republicans will make gains again in the House and Senate, so I'd relax a little. And please stop trying to judge how a person views their own personal liberties. Government isn't the only thing that can oppress.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Because the Republican Party would end. Why do you say that?
  24. What was that song that opened up the episode last night? It was pretty tight.
