QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) Well Hannity has proof of the sarcasm as this article from before the show illustrates. "We've got veterans, we've got stay-at-home moms, people who really don't like the direction of the country. They're speaking out and they've been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They've been called un-American. They've been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent," he said. Of course that's ignored even in the Dem thread on this site...where we have so many highly educated and logical posters.. For the record, thanks for clearing that up. Hannity's comment out of context was whack!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) The Group "Wikileaks" has seemingly obtained and posted online video of what certainly appears to be the killing of 2 Reuters reporters and multiple Iraqi civilians from a U.S. helicopter in 2007. The social media has a left-wing bias!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong, but this is about a family of criminals and the son goes to the police and they go after him to keep him from spilling the family secrets? That sounds about right. Apparently it's based on real events. But don't go to the link if you wanna avoid spoilers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walsh_Street_police_shootings

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) How exactly? My argument was that if this happened to a liberal talking head it would get more publicity. You countered with an example of the opposite. I'm distinguishing the two. How is a guy who allegedly funds a terrorist group and is held out of the country (by its government) the same as a blow hard who gets denied the opportunity to speak because she makes offensive comments? If you have a more comparable example, give it. or a joke For the record Canada's media is to the left of America's and this was top news everywhere. And the Galloway story was pretty big too, but Coulter's story is bigger. Particularly because of her camel comment the day before.

49% say health reform a 'good thing' http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34887.html Although I did see a CBS News poll saying around 47% opposed the bill while 38% supported it a couple of days ago. Either way at this point it doesn't seem to be the end of the world for the Democrats. It's not like Bill Clinton did good in his first midterms, and they didn't pass anything.

Didn't stop Mike Pence and Eric Cantor from claiming that this bill still pays for abortions... I'm confused. And for the record Paul Ryan sounded like Cicero compared to Pence and Cantor.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) I don't think he's arguing that the Republicans have hurt their electoral chances in November by choosing outright opposition, but that they've done longer-term, deeper damage by their choices. He illustrates it more clearly in the video or the full text. Yah I agree, and Frum has been making a lot of noise about moderating the party lately as you've probably noticed. So this isn't a huge surprise.

Wuss! Here's the coup de grace from that discussion. I do believe that the Republican party has shifted hard to the right on a number of issues, and that being a moderate Republican is very hard, but I'm not convinced that the Republican Party's electoral fortunes are hurt by this. Could the Republican party really be hoping to retake both houses if there was little controversy on this and the bill was more of a compromise? We'll see, I doubt it. Update: There may also be a little bit of self-interest at play here. Frum might know what kind of commentators MSNBC wants. Do you get paid to be a pundit?

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Just for the point, not that it matters much, but they are still using reconciliation to pass this. Just for lost, the majority of people in this country still don't want this bill. So they use reconciliation to pass it, which at least is not unconstitutional. It's slimey because it's being used for something that is 20% of the American economy, but it's just as slimey as they other side so the side in power gets what they want. Yah, and if the Americans are really upset they can elect some other people at the end of the year. Simple.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Okay, again, I don't give a f*** that a ®Repubelican (spelling on purpose) did this. It's not constitutional. And FYI, I don't watch even one minute of TV anymore. So Faux yourself. Re: the filibuster - it cracks me up how this is the "same thing", when CLEARLY it's not. I spelled it out for you, but you all want this to be something it's not so bad you can justify anything. And, the UFO-Kucinich is a "big deal" because they are trying to pass this with real votes so they don't have to be unconstitutional and actually pass a real bill. And ALSO as I've said at least three times now, I may not like that outcome, but at least it's legit. If members of congress oppose deem and pass then they should vote against it and then this whole thing can end. Oh yah, they won't because as angry as this might make you, the majority of the members in congress support the bill. Period.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) http://www.calgarysun.com/news/canada/2010...6/13138731.html Seriously, that situation should be rectified as soon as possible. I think most Canadians would agree that the Alberta government should pay for that medication, and the surgery if it's not available here. People should never go bankrupt because of their health. The health problem itself is enough of a burden. Besides that, bureaucracies get frigged up. It happens a lot. And I think from all the stories I hear about south of the border, that would be the same in the private and public sphere. And while bankruptcies related to health issues seem pretty rare here, it's apparently more of a problem down south. Despite our bureaucratic monster I believe Canadians still have a longer lifespan, and health costs per person are less. Of course that doesn't mean we don't have HUGE problems. Not sure if it's really relevant to the issue but in Canada, health care is a provincial area of jurisdiction, but with a large amount of the funding coming from the federal government, that is, if provinces continue to provide the care according to certain tenets of universal care. Alberta is Canada's most conservative province. They haven't really elected a centrist or center-left government in probably over 75 years. During the most recent national election, the Conservative Party won 27 of 28 seats. 28 the election before that. It's kind of like Texas, except I'd argue that the separatist notions are more real here. So I think that's also something you should consider. Especially if you're trying to make us out to be some kind of socialist (marxist if you're Kap) monster.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) Best part of this story? Wasilla is about 15 hours from Canada. Yah, and the only major population center of note, Whitehorse, is even further away. So who knows what she's talking about. And to add, after I saw that standup routine by Palin, I'm beginning to think her presidential prospects are close til nill. I don't even know if she wants it. She's totally missed the boat on "presidential."

Seriously though, while they're still not particularly high, Obama's approval on terrorism, foreign affaris and conduct of the wars is where the American public are most satisfied and confident in him. I have a hard time seeing where any moderate right wingers can really criticize Obama in any major way. Seems to have a pretty steady hand at the wheel on these issues despite some mistakes. Also, don't want to give Obama too much credit that probably doesn't really accrue to him, but enforcement and military achievements.
