QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Please tell me that you didn't just pick them up recently. Because if you did, that's one wacky league. Ridonculous public league. Some donkey dropped Dye in his recent slump.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Batting average on balls in play. The basic idea is...if you hit the ball in the field of play, you should produce a roughly average number of hits. Thus, an average BABIP is about .300. If a player has a BABIP far below .300, that's often a statistical abberation, and they're due for a hot streak. If a hitter is well over .300, then they're due for a cold streak. There are, however, some players who are constantly well above .300, they typically are guys with excellent bat control who know how to deal with a pitcher. Think Derek Jeter, Rod Carew, etc. An example from our org; Jordan Danks had a BABIP over .400 for the first 2 months of the season. He was striking out a ton, but he kept getting hits on balls he put in play. It was pretty obvious that he was eventually going to hit a slump though, because that BABIP is almost always unsustainable; eventually you start hitting the ball at people. Now, he's in a big slump. Alex Rios, for another, typically in his career has had a BABIP of just over .300. His BABIP this year is something like .270. This suggests that he's been particularly unlucky so far this year, and that has kept his numbers down from where they ought to be. Wow thanks Balta. Ya learn something every day. And thank heavens I picked up both Beckham and Dye on my fantasy team.

I remember we were having a debate a while back about whether Dick Cheney is an evangelical. Here's what Barton Gellman, Cheney expert, has to say on the subject. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...ml?hpid=topnews

I was just watching the BLue Jay game up here in Canada, and they interviewed Rios in his street clothes on the way out of Yankee Stadium. He was teary-eyed about leaving and said he hadn't yet talked to the Sox about what his role would be with the team, but said he was excited about a chance to play in the playoffs.

Those are pretty stunning allegations, but at this point just that. Do I really believe this Prince guy is acting like ruthless dictator or mob boss? All the same I'm very disturbed by the idea of a large private military ran by a right wing religous nut.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) I was gonna start a new thread for this, but figured I would start here. Can you imagine if this came from a republican administration, or anyone associated with a Republican administration? They are asking for people to 'inform' on their fellow citizens! I remember an uproar when the govt asked people to keep a sharper eye out after 9/11. So sad. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/Facts-Are-Stubborn-Things/ Hardly seems analogous to me Sounds like an average aspect of rapid response that's normal in today's politics. This isn't an intimidation effort.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) Go green! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090707/ap_on_...ens_wind_energy Now if this were so promising, why would he cancel it? He says they got off the blocks too quick, but I call BS on that one, and furthermore, he's seen what's in the Cap and Trade (Tax and Kill) bill. It's all a big redistribution of wealth boondoggle. PERIOD. But it's a "job creator". Uh huh, so how many millions of jobs are we going to kill to create a fraction of the green jobs? Tax and kill? That's just silly Kap. Cap and trade so far has not really worked at cutting greenhouse gas emissions. But these s***ty plans certainly haven't had much negative effect on economies.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Which is of course why I'm hopeful that even the weak version of a cap and trade bill the House just passed will be more effective than anyone thinks. Turn the market loose, make the costs of coal fired electricity and oil fired automobiles something the customer has to bear more directly, give it a few years, and I think we'll be shocked at how rapid and effective the changes are. Important global effect too. "Whoa, America's actually doing something now? I guess we have to now..."

If the incumbent is relatively popular after 4 years does this historically scare off the top contenders from the other party? Or not really?

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) I'll use as much freaking energy as I freaking please. It's my money, and I'll be damned if the government tells me what the hell I should do with. If I want a gas guzzling SUV, I'm getting me one. Cause you know what, I'd prefer to have a lot of steel between me and all the idiots on the road. And if I want to go with the safer incandescent light bulbs because I don't want the mercury possibly effecting my home and family, guess what, I'll use the incandescent light bulbs. And if I want to the AC to be on all summer, guess what, I'm gonna have the AC on all summer. Cause you know why, it's my money and my freedom. Go save all the trees you want, nobody is telling me what to do with my money. Just cause you feel like it's your responsibility to be greener doesn't mean it's mine and everyone else's. Well on your deathbed you'll have to deal with that I guess.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) I love the argument that it won't change my life anytime soon.... Guess what, I'm 18 and plan on being around for a lot longer. It's gonna affect me and everyone else at some point. I guess if your 92 years old or have a death wise, you really don't have to worry about this stuff, but because it might not effect me in the short term doesn't really please me all that much. In fact, I know my life won't change in the short term. It's the long term that's got me worried. Enormous amounts of debt, hyper-inflation looming if we don't stop printing money, bills that do nothing but tax me, government telling me what type of car to buy and what type of medical treatment I do and don't need, etc... It all adds for a very rough time for everyone. I don't know about all that other crap but it's certainly not beyond the bounds of personal responsibility for an individual to greatly reduce their energy use. Period.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) That's laughable dude. So he LIED about that? LMAO. Please. Google the San Fransisco Chronicle interview from January 17, 2008 - the one about him going to bankrupt the coal industry. It's in there. That interview is not the issue here. Do you really think your electricity prices are going to skyrocket because of a weak and perhaps ineffectual bill? If anything these types of bills tend to at first implement an a easy to achieve cap and make it stronger and stronger over time (in years). Hence, you've got all the time in the world to get your act together, and will only have yourself to blame if you suffer. Oh, and about those home audits. http://www.housingwire.com/2009/06/30/home...and-trade-bill/

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) Barackus the Great told us - HIS WORDS. It's not a "PARTISAN ATTACK PIECE". "...uhhh, you know, under my plan, uh, of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." - Barackus the Great on the campaign trail. So, is he partisan attacking his own plan? From the bill amendments: Now sure, it doesn't EXPLICITLY say that, but if it doesn't meet the "energy requirements" that are set, a person will not sell their home. I'm just saying it will be used as a partisan attack piece. You of all people should recognize that what Obama said during the election campaign may not become reality once he became President. Can you provide link for that quote too?
