  1. What happened to Broadway, I thought someone said he was going to be starting?
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) That's bulls***. PURE bulls***. I could cite and cite where what you say isn't true, but then you all will just disagree and/or say it's a bulls*** poll or whatever, because YOUR guy is a "centrist" because he matches what you want in a politician (someone pointed that out to me today, which is SO true... ). I'm not claiming those are neccesarily true, nor am I claiming Obama's is neccesarily a centrist. Just that it's silly to say Obama is far left. Or maybe I have to put it in Kaperbole terms for you to understand... That's pure bull***.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) Obama hasn't explained how he is going to pay for his massive 'free' health care plan. It needs major cost cutting initiatives. His energy plan is weak and needs more specefics. His tax cuts could very well be total bs, I'll believe it when I see it. His attack on capital, in a time when our economy needs all the capital it can get, is really dumb. ...the list could go on, but I think you guys get my point I understand that the college student with an El Che Guevara poster on their wall thinks Obama is totally a centrist (because compared to you he certainly is), but he really needs to explain his policies and solutions better. The whole 'Change' thing needs to be replaced with 'Improvement'. I don't want some crappy change which will make things worse. Calling his policies crap and inadequate are perfectly fine with me, lets just not call him far left, because we all KNOW that's simply not the case. His health care plan for instance isn't even as sweeping as Hillary's. And for the record, I don't know jack squat about Che other than that movie The Motorcycle Diaries.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) Since we decided we don't need this game, WE BETTER f***ING WIN TONIGHT. Ozzie clearly was saving up the bullpen for tonight's game, and figured he'd hand the O's a win, so that we can win the second game. He better f***ing do it. Yah... that's exactly what he was doing...
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Um, by most accounts, based on his LIMITED voting record, he's pretty damn far left. I think your head would explode then if you actually encountered a far left politician then. Really are there that many bills that make it before the senate, that voting either way would be radical? Obama is skeptacle of affirmative action preffering social programs which aid all people of lower and middle incomes instead of just groups based on race or other characteristics. Far left politicians like affirmative action. In Canada for instance there is a point in the constitution that affirmative action cannot be deemed discriminatory and is therefore legal. Obama favors expanded military action in Afghanistan. Far left politicians want out of Afghanistan completely. Obama is against same-sex marriage. Far left politicians... obviously in favour. Obama is comfortable and open in talking about his faith and says faith cannot be ignored in policy debate. Most far left politicians are secular or atheists or koombayah. Obama is respected by a number of his Senate Republican colleagues. Something tells me if Obama was far left there wouldn't be so much camaraderie. And on and on I can go. Lets save "far left" for those who deserve it.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) I'm pretty much right there with you, except swap out the Republican with Democrat on your post. And frankly I see RSO as a far left guy. FAR left. I also see much of the GWB syndrome with him (my way or the highway) except he's not a bumbling idiot about it like GWB is, which makes it that much more "dangerous". Obama is not far left. Period.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) I think there is a distinct chance Obama loses in November because of people like you, because there are so many people who agree with you on this election right now, and I don't think Obama or his people realize it. They still think that people buy he is the "candidate for change" and "a different kind of politician", when (fortunately) it turns out people aren't stupid enough to but that. People can vote for Obama if they want to, but if they think he's really any different they are simply lying to themselves because he's not. At all. Or maybe it's because you guys are cynical as hell and will make whatever excuses you can so you can ignore the quality of candidates like John McCain and Barack Obama who are both great Americans. And "change" is one of the most successful and often repeated strategies in winning elections and support all over the world, in fact I would encourage Obama to continue to say it, and say it more, and say it in different ways.
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) Me too, I'm VERY surprised that it hasn't come out until now. I can't remember a candidate waiting until the convention itself to pick the candidate, and RSO just might have to, which cuts into the airtime of others, including his wife. It makes me wonder if there's not gigtantic skeletons in everyone's closet and they're putting out trial balloons everywhere to see what gets picked up and what doesn't. What is RSO?
  9. It's the old, embrace your rivals, or destroy them conundrum. He's doing fine on this one, as much as CNN and Fox would have you believe that everything is out of control.
  10. Technically in Canada you can put Canadian as your ethnicity so I'd probably put that. But I'm 1/4 Welsh, 1/4 Polish, 1/4 German (settled in America originally), and 1/4 Scottish who settled in Canada as early as 1836. So I'm reeeaaallllly Canadian.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) Did you all see where all the blather about anyone besides Clinton is all a smokescreen to get Clinton on the ticket? Since 25% of Clinton supporters are all pissed off and that's the only way to unify the party is to have her on the ticket, it's all hush hush until Thursday night - SPRINGGGGGG! Clinton it is! This is also supported by the notion that Obama has lost the backing of some Democrats according to national polls. I guess this was floated by Ralph Nader. BRING IT ON! Seriously, I hope that's not true. Well I have to figure democracy says that because she came a close second and got some 18 million votes she should be strongly considered at least.
  12. Biden says he's not the guy by the way. I'm still saying it's Tim Kaine. http://thepage.time.com/2008/08/19/biden-im-not-the-guy/
  13. Drudge has got one of his famous scoops... "Obama has set out an elaborate roll-out to announce his decision that will begin with an early morning e-mail to supporters, perhaps as early as Tuesday, Zeleny has been told."
  14. So we're only like a week away from the conventions? Who are the VPs going to be? I'd guess Kaine on the Democrat side, but I really have no clue.
  15. I could definitely see Powell endorsing Obama, and he doesn't seem to be denying that part of the story. That being said I have a hard time believing Bill Kristol would have any connections with the kind of people that Barack Obama and Colin Powell trust in matters of confidence.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) Russian convoy heads into Georgia, violating truce This is no longer a "liberation" of the rebel regions (like it ever really was), it's an out right invasion to restore the USSR. With reports of Russia pulling back that seems a little over the top. Russia pretty much said if Kosovo independence is on the table, then so will South Ossetia and Abkhazia's. And Russia has pretty much made sure of that now.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) OMG I'M VOTING OBAMA NOW Hehe, almost as silly as though whose say they're not voting for Obama because of his popularity.
  18. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) apparently it's not OK to say the things we're all thinking. give me a flippin' break. you, and everyone else on this entire board has been on Javy's ass for the amount of sucking he's done outside of maybe one start, over the course of the entire year forgive me if I don't buy into the belief that Javy will have a good game string together 3-4 games then I'll start having some confidence While he's been scuffling for more than 2 months now he's had many more than 1 good starts this year.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) If he is walking on the wine, I'm not drinking it. Lets not kid ourselves, NATO member or not, we would not risk nuclear war to save Gori.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) Re-igniting the Cold War would require an appalling lack of wisdom on both ends. Perhaps they lack wisdom but there is definitely a rationale in the Russian regime reigniting the Cold War type atmosphere. That period of time when Russians were powerful, and scary is a source of pride for many Russians. Lets remember that Stalin is probably more popular than Gorbachev in Russia still today. Hence appearing powerful and frightening solidifies the regime's grip on power. The U.S., Canada and the NATO allies seem totally pooched by the way.
  21. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) DAMN~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
