QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) I actually watched Steele and Kaine on Meet the Press. I'll be honest it was the first time I had seen a full interview with the guy, before I had only seen the bastardized clips that you guys have been posting, and he is nothing like is constantly being represented. For example when they asked him about people of other opinions in the party he made a clear distrinction that all are welcome, but as CHAIRMAN OF THE REPUBLICIAN PARTY, this was his particular view on a specific issue. That is a very important parsing. Steele also noted that Kaine had a few things he believed personally that were not in-line with the Democratic platform, but as chair of the Dems, he has to stand up for what he party believes regardless. As for Obama, after getting into office he has for sure changed into Bill Clinton mode where instead of actually acting on the big promises and left wing rhetoric that he said HAD to be done during the campaign, he now goes out and talks about both sides of the issue and does nothing about it, because it is too hard. That's not leadership, that is not uniting people, that is being afraid of getting your approval ratings hurt by stepping on toes. I have to say that I didn't expect that from Obama. If you're referring at all to Obama's speech dealing with abortion at Notre Dame I'd refer you to Audacity of Hope where he talks about the issue in the exact same language.

Rumsfeld Quoted Bible on War Briefings

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) What behavior have you seen from Rumsfeld that makes you believe he is "off his rocker"? I didn't even know Rumsfeld was religious but reading the WHOLE GQ article is a start in proving to me that Rumsfeld is a complete egomaniac, if not a certifiable one. -
QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) Seriously? Admittedly I'll need to see it again to pass final judgment, but I wasn't particularly moved by it the first time.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 15, 2009 -> 03:05 AM) I'm sure there are going to be many people faithful to the novel very upset with this trailer. It's obvious they're attempting to appeal to the general public . First off, if the movie is going to be at all close to be book the whole intro with global warming and a tornado is deceiving. Cormac McCarthy himself said in an interview that when writing of the destruction he had envisioned an asteroid hitting the planet. That would explain devastation on a scale that covers large amounts of land, blocks out the sun, and turns the Atlantic ocean grey from fallen ash. On that note, it's EXTREMELY disappointing not to observe any ash in this trailer. The book mentioned it frequently, and it added to the dreary vision in your mind of McCarthy's post apocalyptic world. I had my doubts about this film when it was delayed last fall. I believe the essential problem here is trying to faithfully adapt the book, which has sparse dialogue and numerous moments of boredom. These moments, while appealing in the book, don't translate well into film if you're putting millions into post production (ie, Special FX of cities). You figure at the end of the world it isn't going to be adventure, as much as boredom and a fight for survival outside of battling cannibals. I wonder from this trailer if the cannibal angle is going to be pushed heavily. I'm not so sure. Hillcoat had no problem making The Proposition quite bleak and boring...

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 18, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) These labels really serve almost no use. A bunch of men, and it always seems to be men, are bound together in a war against another group of men. We change the label based on their size and if we agree or disagree with their aims and methods. Well, wait, scratch the methods. If we publicly disagree with their methods, we seem to privately use them as outside sources. Are we terrorists? Damn right. You would have to be the stupidest person on the planet to not feel terror if the US comes after you with our military. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto.../International/ That's a great article by the way on the Tigers and their late leader.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) GMAFB, where did anyone in America hear about this conflict? It was probably the biggest victory in the entire Global War on Terror and barely anybody knew it ever happened. Was there even a post on ST regarding this war? If there was did anybody even respond? You can call me an elitist/stuck-up college kid/whatever but the very thing I'm accusing this board, and on a broader level the entire country, of couldn't be more true. -There is no 'y' in the word political. This is the first time I've really ever heard anyone lump this conflict into the war on terror. It's really just a sad situation. The Tigers are a horribly brutal bunch, but they seem to have come to singlehandedly represent the aspirations of the Tamil people.

Rumsfeld Quoted Bible on War Briefings
KipWellsFan replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
A few of you guys have scratched the surface here, but after reading that article, it seems to be more about a completely dysfunctional administration more than anything else. A bunch of administration goofs going around screwing around with cover pages to toy with their less than intellectually capable President. Rather than just giving him the straight goods. It took President Bush way too long to realize just how destructive some of the members of his administration were (ie Cheney, Rumsfeld, Addington, Libby, Gonzalez). -
QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 16, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) Who's not to say we're the super-advanced society compared to what else may be out there? How come everyone always assumes we're the ones who would be so far behind technologically? Good question. Maybe this notion comes from ideas about UFOs and science fiction tales. Perhaps, the idea of little green men being able to come to our planet, obviously possessing more advanced technology, has seeped into our collective conscience. And is this following part true? I knew the universe was large but man...

Huntsman (R-UT) Named Ambassador to China

Huntsman (R-UT) Named Ambassador to China

Wow didn't see this one coming. Was hoping a guy like Huntsman might become a leader of the Republicans... -
QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 11, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) Well, that's nothing new. Olbermann is a jackass. He appeals to that base, which is why he still has a show. Though, that clip shows exactly why it's no wonder MSNBC's ratings are by far the lowest compared to the other major cable news networks. I concur that Olbermann's comments lacked any kind of class, but I have to disagree with the second part. From what I understand MSNBC's weeknight ratings are actually up, and in some slots have beat CNN. Apparently people like their news right wing or left wing.

I watched the Rachel Maddow segment on this yesterday and I still can't believe this. I see no excuse why Obama hasn't changed this if it is within his powers. It's shameful, and embarassing. Why doesn't the constitution stop this?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) This movie looks fascinating: District 9 Yah, that's a pretty cool trailer. It's a little silly but you can see the alien unblurred and what it is saying subtitled here.

Does everyone on this board dislike Owens because of his skills or lack of them on the field, or is there some personal stuff too?

<!--quoteo(post=1882199:date=May 1, 2009 -> 12:18 AM:name=BearSox)--> QUOTE (BearSox @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) <!--quotec-->Give me a break. MSNBC is extremely hateful and will continually attack anyone who disagrees with them and refuse to insult Obama. There's a reason why they are in the s***ter. How many "news" channels will let people like Janeane Garofalo come on and call hundreds of thousands of people racists and stupid rednecks, without being challanged? It's not even close, and if you are trying to make them the same, you're the delusional one. Garafalo lol! What a sell-out for being on a Fox tv show. And Fox for having her on. Not to mention that her character is endlessly annoying. Personally I think MSNBC is a little more intelligent than Fox. Hard to say a channel that has Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly on everynight is better but either way, not much original news coming from either place. But I wouldn't say MSNBC is in the s***ter I think their ratings are actually on the upswing. Which is bad news for everyone looking for centrist media.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) I don't really know where Republicans get off thinking they're so awesome on national security, though. Sure they can say "we haven't been attacked on our soil" but that's because of good work from the intelligence and law enforcement communities, not because of Republican foreign policies (read: Guantanamo Bay, Iraq). Don't wuss out on this one. The Bush administration has a horrible record on "national security." Make them wear it! Pakistan and Afghanistan is being ravaged. Period. You simply cannot say that the Bush administration has been successful in fighting terrorism if you look at the situation in Pakistan. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in Iraq and it continues. And while there is now a fragile democracy in Iraq, there's little doubt that the fury that this conflict has caused has increased the risk to Americans and Westerners 10-fold. North Korea has not been slowed in the least in its pursuit of nuclear weapons and not only the people of North Korea, but people of the region and the west coast of North America are at risk. Iran is steadily moving toward nuclear weapons. None of the administration's bluster did a damn thing to stop it. It's just bulls*** posturing that the Republicans hope they can build up so that when the Obama administration makes mistakes, which they inevitably will, they can paint Obama as weak. Gotta fight back on this one.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Former (thank god!) NSA and Secretary of State Condi Rice gave some mind-bogglingly stupid answers to questions at Stanford U. during a talk last night. Video can be found at links. First, she comes out and says that Al Qaeda posed a bigger threat to the U.S. than Nazi Germany... On another torture related question...she literally gave the "if the President does it, it's not illegal" defense. If the President says it's ok, it doesn't matter what it is...it's ok. This woman was one of the most powerful people in the world for 8 years. Despite these shyte answers I'd still say that Cheney and Addington make Condi and her staff look like pacifists in comparison.

Taliban slowly taking more control of Pakistan
KipWellsFan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
It seems to me that the current head of the Pakistani army is perceived to be a pretty competent guy. Hopefully if worse comes to worst the army will be able to keep the important regions in check. What happened to that lawyer revolution or whatever? The guys in suits. I thought Pakistan had a large middle class. A group that is not amenable to radical ideas? Or is the economy totally screwing that over too? -

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 01:42 AM) Hmmm. Two interesting pictures, IMO. First, capitalism is organized crime? WTF? Yea, yea, fringe loonies, and DukeNukeEm. Okay. You know, though, that's JUST the message that Democrats are sending. After this week, it's pretty much proven. But I have to love the OBAMAMania! that is taking place, and I think this picture displays it nicely. I understand the "history" and all, but holy s***... this guy IS a rock star, just like I was mocking last summer. IMO, his Leno appearance is tacky, at best, forget the "special olympics" comment, which is stupid to even be discussing anyway other then the fact of the hypocracy as I noted in another thread. Dumb comment, but not worth the stupidity coming from the right about it. My point remains, this guy loves the attention and is one very arrogant man. Obviously you haven't heard about the Canadian Prime Minister. His Christmas card two years back was a picture of himself, looking at a bunch of pictures of himself. He also changed the pictures in the government caucus room from past leaders and Prime Ministers, to only pictures of himself. http://web.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto.../WBwblogolitics

Lot of Canadians are kind of ticked off at this segment on Fox News' Red Eye. Especially in light of this.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) As agent Moss said to Jack Bauer, it's the rules that make us better. Ha! Moss is a moron. The show is only like 13 hours old and Moss has already been fooled like 20 times. 24 is terrible, yet I just keep watching...

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Now that Obama has the controls, let's see what HE does to the US Attorneys, and how it's treated in the press. Does he fire some like Bush and get accused of playing politcs, of fire them all and be ignored by the media like Clinton. WaPo wonders which it will be. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...9031203736.html Meanwhile he has already sought to replace one of his more vocal ctitics, Missouri US Attorney Catherine Hanaway, with St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney and Democrat Bob McCulloch, who was one of the members of Obama’s un-American threat to free political speech called the “truth squad” that made the news during the campaign. McCulloch claimed during the campaign that he thought it was a good idea to use the law to attack Obama’s political opponents. http://www.ksdk.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=169660 I don't really understand this. It seems like Obama is legally allowed to replace these US Attorneys, but why was Bush not allowed to do the same?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Oh, so today instead of "catastrophe" and all this gloom and doom bulls*** to get his pet bill passed, now things aren't so bad? Why is that? Oh, so we can spend more money to get health care done. Right. Got it. He DOESN'T care... except how this will keep his poll numbers up somehow. And I didn't like McCain, but he wasn't someone who is taking the country as far left as the US can stand. Bit by bit... I hope you all like France's politics. Because here we come. Name 5 things you don't like about France's politics that Obama is trying to duplicate.
