  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) And they're turning against him now that he's actually in office, as predicted, because he's as radical as predicted. He's not governing from the center, he's taking us as far left as he can. And yea, he's pretending to be religous all right, unless he goes to Egypt and gives a speech. Yah so radical to be opposed to gay marriage. So radical to add troops to the Afghan conflict. So radical to reappoint Ben Bernanke to chair the Fed. So radical to appoint John Huntsman Jr. to be Ambassador to China. So radical to be opposed to trade sanctions against countries whom do not undertake similar efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. So radical to cut taxes for the middle class. So radical to appoint Sonia Sotamayor to be a Supreme Court Justice. He's a pretty standard Democrat as far as I can tell. Of course I realize now that we'll never agree on this.
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Right - he sure was. He's a swell guy, and so misunderstood. I mean, 20 years meant nothing. Wright seems like a nutjob and I personally felt slightly betrayed by Obama for having sat in his pews for all those years. I still hope Obama's just pretending to be religious for f sakes, but that stuff was on tv for days and guess what... the voters decided they'd look past it when they compared it to the alternative.
  3. Are you guys on H? Jeremiah Wright was on tv for days and probably weeks.
  4. Okay if you guys haven't seen the absolute classic film "Network" you have to go and get it and watch it now. You will not believe how relevant it is to today and the Beck effect. "A TV network cynically exploits a deranged ex-TV anchor's ravings and revelations about the media for their own profit." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074958/
  5. Whether we like it or not Dye and Thome are two of our best hitters. If we're pinch hitting for them we're admitting we're not good enough. You dance with the one that brung ya.
  6. That's why you don't pinch run for Konerko in the 7th.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Eh 2/3's chance Line gets the out. Odds are in his favor. Yes odds are in Liney's favour, but I'd say it's less than 60%.
  8. If Garcia is physically ready to throw a hundred plus pitch game then yes you bring him back in.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) I'm not the one who goes around saying this stupid s***. Nancy Pelosi and other Democrat mouth pieces are. Context my ass. They know what they are saying. Might as well keep your bull about Obama being far far left out of the Democratic thread. Most moderate people don't buy that and for certain no one in this thread buys it.

Dark Knight helmer Christopher Nolan's new Sci-Fi flick Inception trailer starring Leo Dicaprio. http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810099246/video/15201197 Trailer gives away virtually nothing but it's still pretty tight. Looks kind of like a cross between Memento and Dark City. Nolan's gotta be one of the best living directors, should be good stuff.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) This all comes out right before Congress comes back to vote on health care. Smokescreen, baby. Edit - to say it better, this has been simmering for months - and they're going to pursue this right at the same time. Right. Nice motives. Don't really buy it. I doubt the actual investigations will make much press, and I doubt that this as a smokescreen was the motivation.
  12. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) This isn't the game to get worked up over. Contreras pitching in Boston can't be a good thing. Our two best pitchers losing to the 2nd worst team in the AL at home? Those games were a f***ing embarassment. It would be impossible for any White Sox fan not to experience acute psychosis after an inning like this one.
  13. Tom Ridge stopped them from raising the level right didn't he? Then he did his job properly. Why would he resign when he got the outcome he wanted? He can't speak out and keep his job as Cabinet Secretary. So some pushover could replace him? Sometimes it's your duty to resign, but I'm not sure it was in this case. But the details are really foggy.
  14. You're going to have to make the argument that he's way more left than Clinton. And you gotta take into account that they were Presidents during different economic times, and most of Obama's economic people were from the Clinton administration.
  15. Two things. First wasn't he bailing out the s***ty companies that weren't making profits? I don't think cruddy companies are the target of marxist anger. Second, wasn't it you who just recently argued that Obama and the Democrats were supporting expanded Health Care just to win over votes? You probably realize that a common leftist position is that capitalists and elitists enact programs like health care just to appease the lower classes and help them accept the capitalist paradigm. Now, that's not why Obama supports a public choice but get your arguments straight. Obama accepts the capitalist and free trade paradigm but believes that the government needs to intervene now and again. This is a moderate position. And I don't really see how Obama is any more left than Clinton.
  16. There's a difference between marxism and a progressive taxation policy. Obama is centrist or center left period.

Avatar trailer looks decent. But is this one of these silly movies where you need to wear those dumb glasses? How the heck do you wear those if you already wear glasses.
  18. I have to agree with you a little on this one Genius. I think a lot of these nutjobs raving about Obama are just whacked, not neccessarily right wing and whacked. The most leftist, conspiracy junkie I know believes that Obama wasn't born in America, that Bilderberg runs the world, that Obama's national service thing is some evil plot, and 9/11 was some conspiracy. Still, those polls of southerners and Republicans on Obama's birthplace are pretty telling.
  19. Honestly we'd probably be like 5.5 games back if Podsednik hadn't come in here this year and performed a minor miracle.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) Well, under "socialism", people will just die while waiting for the care, so I guess it won't "bankrupt" them. /fearmongering but it will happen -- it happens now but it will happen much more prevelantly under "ObamaCare", whatever form that takes. It has to - services MUST be rationed moreso then they are now to get these great cost savings he's after. Meh, I don't think that has to be the case, but I'm going to stay out of this one. I've got no clue when it comes to this topic. I just believe you shouldn't receive far more or far superior care because of one's economic position. I don't believe in equality of condition, but without proper health care people simply don't have equality of opportunity to succeed. IMO.
  21. I don't really give a hoot what program is implemented but I want to see a system where everyone is covered no matter what their socio-economic position and I don't think anyone EVER should go bankrupt because of medical problems. I don't care if you think that's socialism or not. So I guess what I'm saying is... is this co-op thing supposed to cover everyone not already covered?
