QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) I guess this is an interesting place to mention this... UCLA did a media study on the respective news sites and networks. It is kinda interesting, but since Drudge is specifically mentioned, this study actually ranks it as Centrist. http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=6664 Good read....and pretty much confirms what most on the right have always stated.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) I remember riding my bike four miles to my friend's with record albums under my arm that we would borrow from each other constantly. And I had a rotary phone as a kid. It sounded better than my parents cordless does now. The one they have in the bedroom still does. I used to play on my Commodore Vic 20 and screw Sim City, I had lego. I was one of those kids that hung out in the library after school til my Mom got home from work to pick me up. We all tried to hang out at the ONE kids house who's mom worked and wasn't home after school.... nowadays, I bet that would be 9 out of 10 kids homes after school.

YES!!! and if we wanted to play baseball...we went outside and got as many of us as we could and played baseball. We didn't pop in the newest MLB game on PS2 or Xbox or whatever, we got our mits and played!! Same goes for Football, Basketball, Soccer, etc... and the biggest thing missing from the list is cell phones. Every fricken kid has one of those now and I mean every one. Hell...most kids in high school have a blackberry or some kind of PDA. If we were out and wanted to make a call back in the day, it was pay phone time. If you wanted to talk in your car, you had to have a gas station with those phones you can pull up next to. good times

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Nope. Nice try. It means, at least most of the time, please quit blaming our president for everything on the planet earth that's wrong, because the same games get played by both parties. It's just one side gets reported far more then the other for the "wrongs". Where is that parliamentary system when we need it? On a serious side note, what's wrong with a parliamentary system anyway? Maybe that should have its own thread. I'm curous to see what you all think about that. Here ya go kap Clinton NSA Eavesdropped on U.S. Calls During the 1990's under President Clinton, the National Security Agency monitored millions of private phone calls placed by U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries under a super secret program code-named Echelon. On Friday, the New York Times suggested that the Bush administration has instituted "a major shift in American intelligence-gathering practices" when it "secretly authorized the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on Americans and others inside the United States to search for evidence of terrorist activity without [obtaining] court-approved warrants." But in fact, the NSA had been monitoring private domestic telephone conversations on a much larger scale throughout the 1990s - all of it done without a court order, let alone a catalyst like the 9/11 attacks. In February 2000, for instance, CBS "60 Minutes" correspondent Steve Kroft introduced a report on the Clinton-era spy program by noting: "If you made a phone call today or sent an e-mail to a friend, there's a good chance what you said or wrote was captured and screened by the country's largest intelligence agency. The top-secret Global Surveillance Network is called Echelon, and it's run by the National Security Agency." NSA computers, said Kroft, "capture virtually every electronic conversation around the world." Echelon expert Mike Frost, who spent 20 years as a spy for the Canadian equivalent of the National Security Agency, told "60 Minutes" that the agency was monitoring "everything from data transfers to cell phones to portable phones to baby monitors to ATMs." Mr. Frost detailed activities at one unidentified NSA installation, telling "60 Minutes" that agency operators "can listen in to just about anything" - while Echelon computers screen phone calls for key words that might indicate a terrorist threat. The "60 Minutes" report also spotlighted Echelon critic, then-Rep. Bob Barr, who complained that the project as it was being implemented under Clinton "engages in the interception of literally millions of communications involving United States citizens." One Echelon operator working in Britain told "60 Minutes" that the NSA had even monitored and tape recorded the conversations of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond. Still, the Times repeatedly insisted on Friday that NSA surveillance under Bush had been unprecedented, at one point citing anonymously an alleged former national security official who claimed: "This is really a sea change. It's almost a mainstay of this country that the NSA only does foreign searches." Here's the whole 60 MINUTES transcript

Amputee vet running to replace Hyde in Congress
Controlled Chaos replied to Mercy!'s topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) I've known of her candidacy for weeks. I found out she was an amputee yesterday. Nobody in the party is talking about her missing legs. But if you wanna say its because she's all stumpy - that's your perogative. Well the guy that was trying to get signatures at the bowling alley had a picture of her from when she was in the hospital all bandaged up. He would show that picture of her and say we're trying to get signatures for blah blah blah... -
Fantasy Football question?

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) that trade shouldn't even be allowed. Is this for money? Is so, I'd be crying bulls*** in that league. McCardell and Taylor suck, and Marvin is on the hottest offensive team in the NFL. I am in the championship game in both my leagues. Two wins would mean over $1000 in winnings. I also finished both leagues in first. I rule. Wait a minute Tony, how the hell shouldn't it be allowed. Forget your hindsight for a second......Harrison wasn't doing too much early this year and Indy's offense looked pretty dam enemic in general. 3 out of Harrison's first 5 weeks were just plain bad. He only scored 4, 8, and 2 points. I figured I could swindle a deal cause McCardell was pretty hot with 5 tuddy's in 5 games and F. Taylor had a couple of good games and everyone needs running backs. The team that had Harrison benched him weeks 3 & 4, cause Indy was suckin and he was deep in WR, then Harrison had a big week in week 4 so the guy started him week 5 and he only got 2 catches for 17 yards. I knew the manager was probably fed up, so I pounced and proposed a trade while Marvin was at his lowest and my guys were at their highest. The guy accepted it. I call it good GMing.... It was fair. Harrison had 53 points over first 5 weeks. McCardell had 58 points over 5 weeks. Harrison's potential is greater than McCardell so to equal that out, I gave up a second tier running back in Fred Taylor. Now, this all could have screwed me and Harrison could have continued to do s*** like he did 3 out of the first 5 weeks, but it ended up working out for me. As of right now Harrison has 191 pts in our league. McCardell and Taylor have combined for 205, so I'd say the trade has been pretty equal. It definitely worked out good for me, but it didn't warrant getting veto'd which is why it wasn't. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Yes, I'm going to be in the championship game. I was the 4th seed and won by 40. Freddy Taylor was the only guy to have a bad game. He was a last second starter over Warrick Dunn. Hasselbach had another great game for me, Rackers was solid, the Bears D rocked, Thomas Jones was good and all 3 of my WR's put up a TD (Roy Williams, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin). I even put Todd Heap on the bench today just as a safety maneuver (not that I think he'd get -40 points, lol). What made things great. His team had Vick at the helm and I have the Bears D, Thomas Jones and Brian Urlacher. I figured it would come down to this game and it probably did. His only good performer was Tiki who had a monstrous day on Saturday. Fred Taylor is a bum...I traded him and Keenan McCardell for Marvin Harrison after week 5. Id say it worked out pretty good for me. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) More on DVD media quality: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Chaos, if you are looking for some +R Yuden, here is a great link for you: http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden...us-r-media.html Although I will say you can get -R a lot cheaper and I think they are just as good. Just curious as to why you prefer +R over -R. Is it your burner? These are what I use for the most part. Some of these will allow you to burn at 8x, but I never burn above 4X anyhow. http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden...e-spindles.html My burner is +R, thats the only reason. I always burn at 8x, my friend told me when I first started burning to only burn at 4x, but I tried 8x and it worked fine so just like DVD brand, I never changed. Why fix what isn't broken. If yuden is cheaper, I'm willing to give them a shot cause you said they're good quality. I know Fry's always has DVDs on sale for dirt cheap, but I never tried them cause I figured they wouldn't work as well. The brand is GQ....which I think is their own knockoff brand. The only thing I buy of that brand is their 8x10 photo paper. It's .99 cents for 20 sheets. and works great for movie covers. I would never use it for pictures though.

If you were the Colts...
Controlled Chaos replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The Colts will be destroying Fantasy Football Championships all over the world the next two weeks. Glad I don't have Manning or Edge. I do have Harrison, but replacement WR's are a lot easier to have then RB's or QB's. I was hoping they would run the table to beat the 72 idiots. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Try burning on a Memorex DVD and then actually getting it to play in a stand alone DVD player. I've done it and the playback issues are just terrible. Tons of skipping, freezing, etc. I bet out of a 50 spindle, I had 20 bad ones the last time I tried them. If you can get away with it and get it to work, that's great, but I would say for cheaper you can get Verbatims and Yuden's and know you are getting top quality media. Like I said, I've never had a Yuden bad disc, even with about 1000 burns to date. Http://www.supermediastore.com Read their reviews and what not. I started with a Memorex 25 pack when I first got my burner and if they didn't work out I was going to try something different. approx 200 discs later I'm still using memorex... If Yudens' are suppose to be better and they're cheaper...I'm willing to give em a shot. Do they come in +R?

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) I think I'm going with Moats...The backfield in Denver is too crowded and I can't afford another 1 point effort by Anderson. Hopefully Moats, who is very shifty, can break some big ones on the astroturf in the dome. Well I took out Anderson and put Moats in on Friday and then chickened out Saturday afternoon and switched it back to Anderson. Always go with your first pick. Anderson was the right call. He scored 19 and Moats only 11. I kicked ass 117 - 76 and not that I need him, but I have Heap going tonight. Here I come championship game!!! QB - C. Palmer WR - C. Johnson WR - M. Harrison RB - S. Alexander RB - M. Anderson TE - T. Heap K - J. Wilkens D - Carolina Back ups in case some starters sit: Drew Brees Kurt Warner Drew Bennett Rod Smith Ryan Moats Cinci and Seattle are still playing for homefield so I think the only one that might not play is Harrison. Opponent has Tomlinson and Holt so it should be a tough matchup... -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Let me know what you decide between moats and houston because I have the same dilemna. I need to choose between those 2 as my 2nd back. Let me know what anyone thinks as I have no clue about either but picked them up because they had good games and through injuries I'm left with no other choice to start with LT. I think I'm going with Moats...The backfield in Denver is too crowded and I can't afford another 1 point effort by Anderson. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Similar dilemma... I have Shaun Alexander going, but who is going to be my second back. Mike Anderson vs BUF or my two newest additions, while everyone was sleeping Ryan Moats vs STL Cedric Houston vs MIA. I'm leaning towards Anderson cause he's had big weeks for me in the past and I think he'll run over BUF, but the splitting carries s*** drives me nuts. Ryan Moats will probably get the majority of the carries against STL weak defense, but do I want to depend on a rookie in the first round of playoffs? uggh decisions decisions Help I'm agonizing over this decision. I need to be pushed one way or the other............... -

Not sure if this is relevant to any of you, but I heard a guy on the radio the other day and I forget who it was....but he was adamant that what brought on this whole Tejada trade thing was the O's going out and getting Hernandez. He said that Tejada told the O's if you go out and sign him, I'm gone. I guess they were great friends when they were both on Oakland....I think they're godfather to each others kids or something, but then they had a major falling out. He said there's serious bad blood between them, and Tejada requested they not sign Hernandez and the O's went and did it anyway. Take it for what's it worth... Maybe they reconciled now....who knows...or maybe there's still the bad blood and they're covering it up so it doesn't hurt trade negotiations.

I was reading a thread on rotten tomatoes regarding this topic and here's what one poster had to say...I thought it fit pretty well. Oh and that pool reference is actually in the movie Bommerang. Just my thoughts here... I have to wonder about people who look for and create moral issues out of works of fiction intended for entertainment. I just don't see it. I mean, sure, you can make symbolic meanings out of anything. But I for one will not have any racist thoughts generated in my mind while I am watching King Kong, and I do not for a second believe the original writers or any directors ever intended the movie to be a story of black slave owners. But hey, maybe it is just me. When I go shoot pool, I don't think of that white cue ball hitting and knocking around all of those colored balls. But since there is some symbolic meaning that COULD be drawn from it by a very imaginative person, I am sure it must be a racist game. Why else would the ball that is used to knock around colored balls be white? It must be symbolic, even as old as the game of pocket billiards is, of the dominance of the white man over the black man, and how their only worth is to be knocked around by the superior race. Until now, I never thought about what I am saying when I go bowling. But you know, bowling is another racist game, this time, it is about black power, and the overthrowing of the white usurpers. Why else would the bowling ball be black, and it knocks down the white pins? Heck, even some of the white pens are rednecks. I never realized what I was advocating while bowling. Did you know the Yeti is symbolic to the white man? Bigfoot is symbolic to the black man? The yeti lives in the pristine white snow, in the uplands. Bigfoot lives in the lowland dirty swamps. Do the readers know why the dove is the symbol of love and peace? That is the white man. Do you know why the crow is a symbol of omen and doom... death? You know... the crow is black.... Get a grip people. It is a movie meant to tell a touching story and entertain. Sometimes I think the racist people are the ones who see something racist in everything... Ice

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) I won't join the debate as to whether he "got what he deserved" or not. But I'd like clarificatioin on the policy of posting gratuitous death images on the site, regardless of whether or not the thread title has an appropriate warning (which yours did, thanks Chaos.). And, Chaos, your post prompted the question, but my point is not to attack you or even the thread. Just want to know where the site stands. Admins/Mods, what's the policy? Edit: Thanks, Rex, and again Chaos it wasn't about this thread in particular. I just thought we might think twice before turning the forum into a snuff film. Hey, no prob!! I can easily put links up as well. I just did it this way to save people the click, plus I didn't think it was too graphic... Thing is, even though there's a warning in the title....Some people will still click it, knowing they've been warned and then be upset about whats in there. It's like driving past a bad accident...people just look. I'm not talking about you here Jim...I'm just saying in general. It can say clear as day in the thread title..."picture of dead guy in here" and people will click on it and then be like....ewwwww. hey whatever mods decide....I'm down with. Like I said, I just embed the pictures to save people the click...both take the same amount of time

This was sent by a Police Officer in Southern California! And, it ought to make your day!! This fine upstanding member, of the infamous 18th street LA gang, decided one day that he would try to car-jack a semi truck at gun point. The gangster jumped up on the driver side, while the truck was in motion, and stuck a gun in the driver's face. The only problem was that the truck driver opened up the door and knocked the attempted thief off. He lost his balance and fell under the wheels of the truck. At which time the driver slammed on his brakes, resting on top of him. NOT SAFE FOR WORK. NOT SAFE FOR WORK. NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Now I got this as an email....so I thought I'd share. Judging from the tats, I'm quite sure this dude got what he deserved, but one thing doesn't make sense to me. I think the pics show the dude under the right tires not the drivers side. So maybe this didn't go down as written, but either way the result suits me just fine. This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material.
