  1. Michaels is waffling now. I don't think they lose a timeout. They moved the ball.
  2. Didn't they win the challenge even though it was still a first down? They changed the spot of hte ball. Why would they lose a timeout?
  3. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) You, um, don't actually know that unless you were in on the trade discussions, and my guess is that you weren't. And that isn't at all what the article says or implies. My point stands that if you believe Rogers, Arizona is just as "dumb" for wanting Anderson over Young, who has a lot of upside, power and speed, but was also a .295 OBP lead-off hitter this year. Your source wasn't involved in the trade discussions, and is directly refuted by common sense and an Arizona official.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) The irony is that Arizona had Anderson rated above Young as well. Says Phil Rogers... Logic and Arizona execs say different. Who here projected him to become more than a solid outfielder? Young was the one who was regularly tapped with future stardom.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 02:11 AM) So because Josh wasn't in post season play you are penalizing him? why dont you check out the stats before you make such bold assumptions. Fields is the superior offensive player so far. 178 games .237 .295 .467 .763 32 hr 68 rbi 85 runs 29 2B 100 games .244 .308 .480 .788 23 hr 67 RBI 54 runs 17 2B Go ahead and calculate what Josh would do in the full season that Young had. Then compare players. "what Fields would do in the full season that Young had" You do realize, that Fields was only able to hit 10 HR in 200 at-bats in Charlotte this season right? Why should I believe that you can extrapolate his late season numbers when he couldn't even put those HR numbers up in April and May against AAA pitching? Wow. You've got your players reversed. They've hit essentially the same this year. But when you look at what they bring to the table, It's not even close. Fields has plus power, possibly plus batting eye. Young has plus power and possibly a plus batting eye, to go along with plus defense at an up the middle position, plus speed, and plus baserunning.
  6. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) If Kenny "misevaluated" Young, then so did every other team in baseball since he didn't get drafted till the 16th round. Arizona certainly had it "wrong" if they wanted Young over Anderson. So if you buy Rogers' story, Arizona is just as "dumb" or "bad at evaluating talent" as the Sox, they just got lucky. Rogers may be full of hot air, but this response if full of crap. I've already addressed Young's draft slot above. Please read the thread. There were dozens of "Don't trade young" posts here during the leadup to the '05 trade deadline. Why? because he was a better prospect than anderson at that time. He wasn't as close to the majors, but he was a better prospect with a much higher ceiling. Arizona wasn't lucky. They knew exactly what they were doing/who they were getting. If we were to believe Rogers, the D'backs called up the White Sox after they traded their starting CFer from their WS team and asked for their projected '06 CFer. Why would they do that? I'll tell you... So that they could "work down" from and ask for the guy they really wanted. Luck wasn't a factor for anyone who followed the minor leagues.
  7. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) Oh please yourself. I didn't use the round he was drafted in against him, what are you talking about. You only simplified his potential and his trade value by referring to him as simply "a 16th round pick." I'd say you used his draft round against him.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Could be, but as of right now, Josh appears to be not only improving faster, but also out producing Young as well. Fields hit .240/.308/.496 in the second half. Young hit .242/.314/.509 in the second half, and has added 2 HR in 3 post-season games. I don't see how you can make either of those claims using those stats. * * * * * What's interesting is that Fields can't hit a fastball, and Young has trouble with the off-speed stuff.
  9. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) So, no matter how you slice it there was some incorrect scouting. But if you think about it, there was some good scouting that took place to get Chris Young in the 16th round and be able to trade him for a starting pitcher. Young was a top 5 round talent in HS, but he busted his leg his senior year and fell due to concerns about his health. Oh, please. They don't ask for your credentials when you step into the batters' box. And if you want to use the round he was drafted in against him, shouldn't we have traded our 38th rounder back in July for a couple of first rounders?
  10. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) Woohoo...I just got satellite dish TV... Don't use it as a wok. I'm speaking from experience. You can make some excellent stir fry, but the reception quality is greatly reducded.
  11. So f***ing stupid. But what else should I expect out of this organization lately. They've made nothing but retarded decisions since the Buehrle signing.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) His pitching doppleganger (stuff-wise) is starting game 2 for the Rockies. after I type that, he goes and demonstrates their difference... Morales can touch 97, whereas Gio might rarely hit 94. Gio's got a better change though.
  13. QUOTE(Calderon @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Considering Kyle Kendrick's age and where he started this year, is it crazy to think that if not for the trade, Gio could be starting Game 2 of the NLDS today against the Rockies? His pitching doppleganger (stuff-wise) is starting game 2 for the Rockies.
  14. it doesn't look like Webb has ever pitched on 3-days rest before. He's got a slightly better ERA with 4 days rest over 5 days, but it doesn't seem significant to me. With 6 or more days however, his strikeout rate is up, and he's still nasty with the sinker.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) No pressure tomorrow Lilly, just win or your team is almost dead. I'm a bit upset that Owings isn't throwing tomorrow. he's not a great pitcher or anything, but he was better than any of the Cubs pitchers in the second half, and he could bat 4th. Is he gonna go in game 4, or are the D'back gonna counter with a 3-man?
  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) They might still like Sweeney and Broadway has a shot. I believe Gio was the only player listed for the SL. He was something like 8th or 9th... Fields "would have been 4th" in the IL, but I'm unsure if he was included. Nobody else had a chance.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) Its 7:33PM CT time, and I was just able to purchase a ticket for the game tonight at the Bob..... Cub fans are the greatest!!!
  18. When I think of "beach music," I think of sitting around a fire after sundown acoustic guitar, improvised drums, maybe a bongo and a harmonica, include references to nature/weather/places. That's it... That said. The first thing that came to my mind was Sublime's Badfish, but that's out... "two pints of booze" Anything Jack Johnson is an obvious choice... I'd recommend "Rainbow" with G. Love. Also "Free" with Donavon Frankenreiter which was featured in a Verizon commercial. Those two are perfect in my estimation... But anything Jack would work, Bubbletoes, Mudfootball, Flake (for some steel drum action), Never Know, Rodeo Clowns. I could go on, you'd just have to listed to make sure they don't have a drug reference... Johnson's made a few surfing movies and produced some largely instrumental soundracks for those. I'm sure you could buy one of those and find enough to fill your 7 minutes.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) I watched the season premiere of "My Name Is Earl", the first episode I have ever watched. What crime did he admit to for Joy that got him sent to jail? he didn't commit a crime, he confessed to a crime.
  20. Well Romney and Obama are pretty similar.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) Haha, just pathetic. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...1&cset=true My favorite response the past couple of days, when someone is excited about the Cubs 85-win season. "The last time the White Sox had an 86 win season, they fired their manager. The Cubs have an 85-win season, let's throw a farkin parade!!!"
  22. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) Lucy wasn't a matter of scouting, it was signability. Everyone knew Suzuki was better. Suzuki wasn't a tough sign. If you want to call it cheap -- which the entire '04 draft was aside from Gio -- you can, but it's not really signability. The Sox had "too many" picks in '04 and chose to sign a bunch of below slot guys (Gio being the exception) Whisler and Lucy were reaches. Even Fields' big bonus was able to be spread out over 5 seasons thanks to his two-sport status, so you could argue that that was a choice of money. Fast forward to June '08: "We got our guy. We weren't sure he was gonna be there. He was the guy we wanted all along."
  23. I enjoy Jeckle's posts since Rowand was traded.
