QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Any chance this kid could out perform Willie for 2B or will he strictly be a back up? I don't think Kid should be used by anyone other than Ozzie to describe Ozuna. --- He's older than Willie. He's one of those guys who aged more than a few years overnight. He's about 30

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) i never said we would cut either of them i said they would sooner end up in the bullpen to make room for B-Mac than us non-tender Garland. I've got bad eyes.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Wait a minute...I read Santo's posts after I posted...so it IS 6 million a year? Tons of misinformation out there --- Nobody knows -- http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1224/1482132.html That again puts his $$$ due at $8M & 9M, with the yankees picking $3M over the next two. Interpret it as you wish.

I was using dugoutdollars on the 8&9 figures, and common sense(I thought, knowing how we backload contracts) on the 2&1 figures. It doesn't really matter, the point is we're stuck paying him a lot of money the next two years.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Wasn't it 6 Million? Picking up Mulder would be great. 2005 = 8-2 = 6 2006 = 9-1 = 8 (6+8)/2=7 /this concludes the mathematics portion of the test.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) What is going on with Contreras contract? I'm pretty sure this is the last year of his contract. If not how much and how long is it for? It's not the last year of his contract... we average paying him 7M the next two seasons.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/sportsbusin...tory?id=1970454 Can somebody help me dechipher this one? -- Does this say that MLB is the sole owner of fantasy baseball, on the grounds that the players own the stats they create? And as such they are going to, no doubt, charge for such a sevice in the future?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...n18.html?sub=AR I think if we take up collection starting tonight, we might be able to put together a competitive offer. Of course, this should be tempered with the knowledge that the Nats have Christian guzman, Vinny CAstilla, and Esteban Loaiza all under contract in 2005. The good news is you can fire Jim Bowden.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true Still sounds like a crock to me. Maggs we can either A] drill a hole in your femur to help drain the blood that's collected in there, or b] play some subsonic "noise" at it and hope for the best. I would have charged him less to sit on my subwoofer crankin out some Jay-Z

They do look really tough in the zone... They used it in the first NY game to really get back into it, and I was suprised not to really see to much of it in the second.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) even if B-Mac is ready by next season i think Garland has a safe job with us... if anything i bet my money on that el Duque or Contreras would sooner end up in the bullpen than we non tender Garland. Niether Contreras nor Duque is eligible to be non-tendered next season. Duque has more than 6 years of service, and I think(someone with more baseball knowledge than me can correct me if I'm wrong here) Contreras signing a guaranteed major league deal straight from Cuba makes him ineligible. Both have guaranteed contracts in 2006. Garland does not -- Though if we want him back he is ours, and ours only.

That's John Kerry believing he still has some sort of political future. I think he believes that he didn't win the presidency becasue he wasn't seen as a "strong" figure with concreate convictions. This notion is misguided. He lost the election because he doesn't have a hangout down on the farm in the south, and is seen as elitest. He's trying to build a solid record of desent against the Bush objective for the next 4 years, hoping that will give him a stronger platform to launch a campaign from. The sorry thing is, this is an easy vote. it's clear that Condi has more than a little culpability in the Iraq/misinformation debacle. That only 2 people stood up to block the advancement of someone who's done nothing to deserve a promotion is sad. That those 2 did so, probably, largely thinking of their own political futures just illustrates how f***ed up the entire system is.

Here's a fictional player -- (a hitter, because using Garlands numbers would be obvious) Age 20 -- .256/.306/.397 -- September Call-up Age 21 -- .289/.349/.448 -- Called up after ASB Age 22 -- .267/.331/.427 -- Full season (500 ABs) Age 23 -- .266/.325/.421 -- Full season (500 Abs) Age 24 -- .270/.336/.433 -- Full season (550 ABs) I don't think anyone here would want that player run off the team. especially when everyone is excited about the 28 yo coming of a .244/.313/.364 season, and our biggest offseason acquistion is a 30 yo coming off a .265/.329/.464 season. That player is a mirror of JG's production vs. leage average. This fictional player would have a OPS+ of 100, matching JG's ERA+ of 101. In theory if you have a team with 25 guys who all produce at league average, you're going to win 81 games. "Average" players aren't costing the team wins, they're not adding them, but they're not supposed to be the ones driving the bus. It's when you're counting on these type of players to have career year that your team is in trouble. (i.e. 2003/2004 with the career 98 ERA+ Esteban Loaiza) Complaining about those average players when the team has obvious holes, with much below average players [Pods 94 OPS+(terrible for a LF), Dye's 103 OPS+(not good for an offensive position), WH's anemic 52 OPS+, Crede's underwhelming 89.] at other positions is just a waste of energy.

Opening Day/National Championship
Gene Honda Civic replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
My memories of the 2001(?) (MSU/UF) game drastically differ from your accounts Aboz. My dad was workin a job in Indy, and got himself a tix in a suite, but he knew I wanted to go, so he sold his a day before the game for $350... The day of, there was obviosly no tix to be had for cheap, until about 20 minutes b4 game time... We were able to get two seats for $125 total -- once we got inside, we made our way towards our level, stopping of to get some food. While in line he saw a member of the firm he was workin with in Indy, told him the situation (scalping his one so two of us could go) and he was able to get us into the Suite. Once there I was able to talk BBall with Rick Majerus, in between his mouthfuls of everything from the buffet. -

The other day I made some scrambled eggs. When I sat down to eat them, I noticed what looked like pepper on my eggs. I usually do add some pepper to them, and it being early in the morning I didn't question not remembering putting any on the eggs(I'm not a morning person). I ate them and they tasted just a little funny. It wasn't until I did the dishes the next day that I realized my constant abuse of my favorite non-stick pan had finally caught up to me. The entire bottom of the pan was flaking off. I was too out of it making breakfast in the morning to realize, but I ate about half of the coating from that pan. I'm still here, It can't be that bad for you.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) The biggest beef i hear from Cubs fans about the Sox booth (not that it matters) is that Hawk is silent for too long of stretches during a game. I agree with Mike though. In general, I agree with Mike too -- But I know where the "cub fans" are coming on this one. Hawk cares imensely about how this team does. When the Sox go through a bad stretch, so to does the Hawk. He gets sullen, and much quieter. I know I watch a lot more Cubs games when they are losing than I do when they are winning. This is probably true of cubs fans too, thus their complaints about too much dead air.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) If only Carl could play 2nd. Hey guys, I have an idea... COuld you imagine how bad the defense on the right side of the infield would be with a Jurassic/Pauly tandem.
