Jacque Jones to Floridaaaaa
Gene Honda Civic replied to palehose23's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) The simple fact that he is athletic and still has more potential than Jones. They got a major leaguer, thats more than I would have expected them to get. It's not great, but if people make this some sort of steal for the Marlins, then that is quite ridiculous. First of all, I haven't seen confirmation that Abercrombie is headed the Cubs way. I kinda doubt it, I suspect the Cubs are going to look to clear a 40-man spot with the move, and will get a low-minor leaguer in return. Second. A major leaguer? sure Abercrombie has 7 career HR, but he's less of a major leaguer than Andy Gonzalez. The only reason he's a "major leaguer" is because the Marlins suck and were looking for any interesting (and cheap) players to fill their outfield the last couple years. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) What about if it was "Baby Rapers 4 Jesus"? Would that change things at all? That baby was asking for it. Did you see what she was wearing? -
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) Logan Johnson already with 2 doubles. I'm not a big fan of this guy prospect wise, but he is definitely way too good for Bristol. Maybe with all those college SS at Great Falls they figured he could at least start at Bristol, but it's a waste for him IMO. It's early, but Miranda looks like he's playing above the competition in GF, so there's a chance that there could be a domino effect of promotions in a few weeks.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) I think Masset is good, despite all evidence to the contrary.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) How can you say these have worked out when Halladay signed that extension a year and a half ago? He hasn't even made a single start under the extension? Oswalt signed his deal before the '07 season started, so it's "worked out" for a grand total of 17 starts now. You're going to have to do a whole lot better than that, you need to find examples that are 4-5 years into the deal in order for it to serve as some sort of precedent. Off the top of my head I can name the following guys on the bad side of the ledger: Darren Driefort Bartolo Colon (to whom we offered something like 4/50) Perdo Martinez Jason Schmidt Jeret Wright 3-years Carl Pavano 3-years AJ Burnett Sindey Ponson (wasn't that a 4-year deal that the O's were able to void after a year?) Kevin Brown Chan Ho Park Pedro Martinez (who boston wouldn't give a 4th year, and has been toast since last season) Mike Mussina's second NY contract On the good side of the ledger: Mike Mussina's first NY contract Pedro's Boston contract, even though he still hit the DL, he was the best pitcher in baseball for much of the contract. I'm struggling to come up with non-hall of fame examples here.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) How do I block my phone number from showing up on caller ID? Isn't it * 70 or something like that? * 67 I don't know why I just didn't google it first... I get mad when people are too lazy to look things up. You're a f***ing hypocrite. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Is it more creepy that you want to do it, or that I know how? *67. My dad's out of town, and it's time to mess with a mutual friend of ours. Since we sound alike, I can get away with it without even trying. The number would have been the only indentifying tag. Though the lack of number might give it away now.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 08:43 AM) 1st question, is Rolex actually spelled properly on your watch? I have seen fakes which amazingly, do not spell it right. It's spelled just like it sounds "rorex"

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) You can't offer him arbitration therefore you can not receive compensatory picks. Iguchi more than anyone else on this team needs to be dealt before the deadline. That he will be a free agent if we don't sign him by about Nov 15, that we can't recieve any draft pick compensation, that 2B is perhaps one of the easiest positions to fill lately making them all underpaid compared to their counterparts, and that there doesn't seem to be an in contention team in need of immediate help at 2B means Iguchi has little to no trade value.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) This just proves even more than that the needs to go, as he's not getting through to these guys. I guarantee we have the fewest opposite field homers in all of baseball this season. This is my stance... I don't believe SSI's lift&Pull talk. that's overblown. I believe walk is trying, and he's not telling guys "oh that was a good swing, but next time really try to pull it. swing harder." He's trying to get guys to work up the middle and the other way, but there's just no evidence of it happening in results on the field. Either he's a terrible coach, or the guys aren't following direction. Either way, he's got to go. I felt the same way at the end of last season, using Uribe's decline as evidence. Now Uribe is probably a poor example because he's hard-headed and never going to be a .300 hitter, but his 13 walks last season were evidence that he went up to the plate with his own plan, coaches be damned. He deserves plenty of blame for that, but if walker is consistently not getiting trough to his players than he has to go.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 07:03 PM) I think a big mistake we made was not bringing in a back-up SS when we found out Cintron would need surgery on his arm. How the heck did he make it to January(?) without having surgery. Was he busy for three months? -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) Let me know when Terrero hit 26 hr's in about 350 major leauge at bats. The guy has always been stuck in outfields with too many guys and because of it hasn't started. I don't know if he'll ever hit for a great average, but jesus he has the tools and would be the perfect guy to get along with two highly ranked prospects (essentially you get two top prospects and than a high risk high reward guy who has already played a couple major league seasons). I think Pena's best comp is Sammy Sosa. A sammy Sosa off the roids, but sammy sosa, nonetheless. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) So....how many teams are going to give us a ton for him then? None of the smart ones, but that doesn't mean he needs to be talked about as a future starter, a centerpiece of this team, or anything other than roster fill until his performance finally starts to match that (faulty) scouting report we were sold. -

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Overreaching? I keep Masset WHY? What has this kid ever done at any level (outside of 20 innings in the Mexican League) to warrant the rope that you people give him? His minor league numbers are mediocre to bad. He was put on Waivers in the middle of the '05 season about the same time we (re)claimed Ryan Wing. We found room for Wing, but not Masset. Then 18-20 months later, despite more mediocre-to-s***ty production, Masset is viewed by many (for reasons unknown) as a future starter and a centerpiece to the future of the club. Masset sucks. just like the other guys we've claimed since Jenks; Sierra, Wing, Tucker, all garbage. -

QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Sierra is terrible. 94 down the pipe all the time. How did this douchebag get a promotion? I've never heard a single good thing about him besides "he throws hard" and he doesn't have good numbers/results.

McCulloch, like Floyd, has really turned it around since the calendar turned to June. 27.2 IP, 19H, 1HR, 2BB, 26K in 4 June starts. Plus a GO/FO ratio that's just a hair under 3:1.
