QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) He haas 5 errors so far. The general feeling is that he won't ever be great but passable at 3b. If we sign Crede long term, though, he gets moved to the OF or traded, IMO. What do the Padres have in their system? They'll need a 3B, with Castilla sucking donkey balls on his way to the retirement home.

Reconstructed inning. Single out Single out Single -- Run out ---------- End of inning ------- Theoretical start of second inning. Double Double -- Run Single Single -- Run out out One of the deficiencies in the Earned run stat is it completely overlooks situations like this where the pitcher is REALLY REALLY bad.

So far this weekend, Josh has gone 7-12 with 4HR 2BB and 3K's. According to Gameday, all of the HR have been to straight-away center and right-of-center. None of them have been cheapies. They've all been 400 ft. shots.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 13, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Oh, I will. When we're witnessing our crown jewel Lance Broadway battling Liriano, perhpas others will begin to realize how far off we are from producing a quality system. Sure, we have McCarthy; but Minnesota has their equivalent in Baker. Need to do more then one contributing player once every 4 years. Am I to believe Minnesota, of ALL the teams in the majors, lucked into Santana and perhaps the one pitcher who can duplicate his numbers? If Williams is intent on mimicking the Twins organization, why not mimick their scouting and minor league development? I've said before in other threads, you can't find your Lirianos or Santanas refusing to scout players from Central American countries. Perhapas the Twins don't have CA scouts either, but they sure have people who can recognize talent. We're battling them on the field--why not battle them in the minors as well? I'm tired of watching arm after arm fail upon promotion on the big league club. If you don't hold standards--even those which may appear unreasonable, why do anything? Let's keep drafting people and hoping they'll be good bargain chips for a team when midseason approaches. Worked one year, why not again--right? Well let's review how they got both Santana and Liriano. They got Santana by having the second pick in the Rule 5 draft. You have to be REALLY BAD to pick that high. They got Liriano because AJ Pierzynski was expendable. Why was AJ expendable? Because they got Joe Mauer with the second pick in the June first-year player draft. You have to be REALLY BAD to pick that high. The Sox will put themselves in position to get talent commensurate with their slot in the draft. Keep that in mind. The Sox have a 3rd baseman who is 3rd in the IL in OPS right now. They have a third baseman in the Major Leagues with an underappreciated glove and .950OPS right now. Seems to me that they have a position of strength (like AJ/Mauer) to deal from. You say you have high standards, and that our callups all fail. Yet Liriano had an ERA north of 7 in his first 20 days up in the majors. You would be one of the first ones to call for his head had he done that here. You want to emulate the Twins, yet the only hitter who they've developed in the last 15 years who has any combination of power and batting eye, they let go. For nothing. Jacque Jones, Torii Hunter, Luis Rivas, Christian Guzman, Justin Morneau, Michael Cuddyer (just might work out), Lew Ford, Dustin Mohr, Bobby Kielty, Michael Restovich, Matt LeCroy, and soon Bartlett, Kubel, Spahn, etc... all appeared to be good prospects at one point. Hunter and Jones are the most successful of the bunch, and neither one should be considered a plus offensive player. -- They can hit HRs, but don't hit for average or draw walks. Todd Walker might be the second best hitter they've developed since their last world series, and they shipped him out too. You have to recognize that they have deficiencies too. No team/organization is perfect. They all have different goals and are pulling from the same talent pool. There are no Sid Fitches out there. No matter which central American country they come from. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) I go by what ESPN says on their schedule. Bonds vs. Bonds?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 13, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) I'll stop complaining when our organization producers or trades for a pitcher comparable to Liriano. It's that simple. The first team since 1928 to throw 4 straight complete games in the playoffs, and you keep complaining that the Sox don't have a 1-in-10,000 talent in their minor leagues. :headshake It's like you think these players grow on trees or something. It's worth noting that Minnesota didn't sign either Liriano or Santana. They stole them both. Yet you keep complaining.

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 13, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Ozzie should stick with him at least until the break. Also consider that trading Garland may affect the team's ability to re-sign Buehrle. Garland has a full no-trade clause in '06

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Great. Let's move Jon to the 'pen. I'm sure he'd flourish. I'd be surprised if he didn't Garland's best at the beginning of games. 1st inning -- .252 .320 .378 2nd Inning -- .240 .325 .372 3rd -- .275 .324 .458 4th -- .258 .332 .434 5th -- .310 .364 .495 6th -- .284 .354 .490 7th -- .253 .314 .419 8th -- .266 .328 .468

QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Right, and he couldn't have seen him last year in spring training in AZ with the Rangers?So maybe we're talking a total of what 7 innings? You were trying to pass him off as if he was one of Ozzie's guys. He's not. He's just some scrub who we happen to have laying around in our farm system.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Jas, yes, I kinda figured they wanted Tracey to settle in. Ozzie knows Montero too, I think from the Marlins org. but not certain. Redding has been starting down there, that's what he wants to do so he can show the other 29 teams he's healthy. This sounds like just a look-see for Montero. The Sox like Tracey but they definitely want him to get into a groove with his mechanics and get those walks down. His fastball has kinda leveled off, into the low 90's. To me he is trade bait but he could fill in if some of the White Sox arms start dragging. The thing with Montero is they told him to be aggressive and let his arm action and raw stuff do the work. I tend to agree with you that he's a marginal talent but maybe they've fixed something mechanically. Tough to say but his early results in Charlotte are good. Juan Nieves is a good pitching coach and he has a knack for teaching guys slightly different grips to get more movement and better command. Anyways this guy gets a chance. The plus side is it's May, they can see what they've got in case they need to rely on any of these guys in August. Montero was in the Oak, LaD, and Tex organizations. Ozzie's seen him for all of 5 innings in game action this spring, where he was busy hanging a poor breaking ball.

Mr. Rowand broke his nose tonight crashing into a wall making a catch with the bases loaded.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 11, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) So you're saying that Isiah Thomas wants this kid? Contract's too small. Not enough guaranteed money.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Montero has been mediocre in his career but in defense of this move he's been lights out down there this year. You've gotta love that the defense of the move is that Montero didn't suck in his last 25 innings (his first taste of success above AA at age 28), turning a blind eye to the fact that he spent 10 years of mediocre-at-best pitching prior to the last 5 weeks.

QUOTE(Linnwood @ May 10, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Does anyone know why any of the games are on WCIU? The colors are awful, the sound crackles or drops out all together, and watching the on screen graphics you can tell the screen is cropped. I know I am not the first to b**** about this, but does anyone know why the White Sox would let their product be broadcast on such a crappy station? All home games, including ones on WCIU are broadcast in HD.

The taping, which began just before 5 p.m., took just over an hour. And Conan fans who did not get e-mail ticket reservations from NBC are strongly encouraged to line up for standby tickets to Conan’s shows on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Staffers scrambled to fill the theater by the time the taping began, and every person in the standby line got in to see Tuesday’s “Late Night” taping.

Charlie Haeger to likely start Wednesday
Gene Honda Civic replied to wcw2323's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Let's say ALL of the things that some of the posters here have said is true.... 1) Contreras isn't making his start Wednesday 2) Count was seen limping yesterday 3) Haeger is being called up to take his place in the rotation. Let's review how many ways this doesn't make sense. 1) If Haeger is getting called up, somebody else has to go on the DL or get sent down. The only candidate for being sent down is Boone Logan. There are no candidates for being put on the DL (though I wouldn't be surprised if Cliff didn't make it through the season without a trip to the doctor) Contreras' limp, unless it was something of the magnitude of say an ACL tear, is not going to prompt the White SOx to put him on the DL. At worst, they would allow him to skip a start, with McCarthy replacing him, and evaluate him further in a few days. Contreras' start is still over 48 hours away. Unless he has a gangrenous limb, the Sox aren't going to make a final decision until Tomorrow at the earliest. Think about the McCarthy/El Duque situation last year. McCarthy wasn't notified until about 24 hours before his first ML start. The Sox are going to take a wait-and-see approach with all of their pitchers. In fact, with the off-day today, the Sox don't have to make a decision until they go through their rotation a full time. Saturday at the earliest. So until you can provide concreate evidence that Contreras has a SERIOUS health issue, (or at least that someone in his immediate family is ailing, prompting a Bereavement list trip) you're just blowin smoke. -

Contreras had his left leg amputated at Rush today. He says he'll be able to throw on Wednesday with a peg-leg, but Ozzie wants him to throw a side session first.
