  2. QUOTE(ChiSoxCE2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Hey, just wondering...so what happened to Charlie Haeger? Did they give up on his knuckleball? I know his control was a problem. Anyone know what happened? He's started throwing what they call the At-em ball.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) They didn't win 4 games in a row all as the underdog (3 as a major underdog). There is a big difference between a team playing a crazy awesome game with no shot clock and a team in the shot clock era beating 4 teams like this. Yeah they did. NCST had to win the ACC conference tournament just to make the tourney. Villanova was a 9 seed who took down 3 top 5 teams.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) My goodness, that's the biggest upset in the history of the tournament. An 11 seed from the CAA that lost twice to Hofstra and was a narrow at large makes the final 4 by beating Michigan State, UNC, and UConn. Biggest upset ever, end of story. I'd call it the biggest upset in the shot clock era.... NCST over Phi Slamma Jamma and Villanova's "perfect game" over Georgetown might top 'em just because of the stage of the championship game.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) I'm so happy Nantz and Packer are the announce crew right after that game. They just look like complete assholes now. They routed Packer so he didn't have to announce any games with a mid-major past the sweet-16. Now they can't avoid it.
  6. Mack taking Route Running 101 with Prof. Podsednik this spring.
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) That sounds about right. I think he can touch 85. Maybe in his car, but not with any of his pitches.
  8. /creates "How is Timo Perez doing?" thread.
  9. The Cubs combined to throw 9+ innings of hitless baseball against the A's today. Somehow, I think these two performances are related.
  10. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Good to hear JOse got all of his work in too. Pardon me if I'm not celebrating his 4BB in 4IP
  11. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Jenks went 3 innings vs. Rockies AA and I think gave up 3H, 1R, 1W, 1SO If Jenks is pitching 3 innnings (48 pitches) in AA games, they are worried about his conditioning and arm strength.
  12. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) Looks like almost all of the regulars, pitching and hitting, are ready to go except for Iguchi and Jenks, and both should be good to go in a week. It's very nice to see. May I ask what you've seen from either of them that would suggest they'll be "ready to go?"
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) I know Cotts is supposed to pitch today. Not sure about Jenks though. In Tucson
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 01:52 AM) Statheads think they are infallible, when in reality they are pretty damn clueless and closed minded to the fact teams can be tough mentally and win close games because that is how they are built. Maybe if we make it back to back these people will shut the f*** up, but even then I doubt it. Also... I heard they don't believe in the Easter Bunny. And they like France. And hate FREEDOM. You're either with us, or against us! I, for one, am prepared to fight.
  15. The Patriots win everything. They've got Brady, Belechik, Vinetari. They'll win.
  16. Did a search.... it was a Mr. Rogers chat on BA...
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) Broadway can't be dealt quite yet. Correct, but the real cutoff was at the end of January since PTBNL's can don't have to be named for 6 months. He could be traded now, it would just have to be as a PTBNL
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) Some people here said he had tommy john, but than JD said he was working out and throwing (he knows his stuff), which tells me it was a lesser surgery. There was an article in one of the south suburban papers this off-season that said it was shoulder related. TJ is elbow.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) It almost feels like Thornton is a Rule V player, and we have to keep him on the MLB roster or lose him. That's exactly what he is.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Maybe Fathom and JP should just start their own thread where they can fight like little girls about the same points over and over. BTW Sweeney still rakes. Im excited if Quickman likes him, he hates every prospect. I'm worried. Can you imagine TQ's outrage when Sweeney is traded for Juan Cruz? Oh man.
  21. This debate is a matter of semantics... I consider Closer by Committee™ to be a club that doesn't necessarily have any viable closer options, i.e. 2003 Red Sox the Brandon Lyon experiment. The 2005 White Sox didn't fit this definition. Yes, Ozzie used different guys to close out games. But the thing he did best, was put the right guys in high-leverage situations. He didn't fall into the Closer-gets-the-last-three-outs-in-a-win trap. He used his best guys when they were needed most, sometimes that was in the ninth, sometimes it was the 8th. Perhaps most importantly, after his misuse of the pen in the third game of the season, he almost always had one bullet left in the chamber.
