  1. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Sorry sorry. I was just joking. Tracey's in. I wouldn't have done it if it were regular season. Trying to lighten the mood re the bullpen. Soxtalk ----> But is he still fat?
  2. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) Jenks gives up a hard hit single, a walk, and then a HUGE bomb. M's win 6-3. I'm predicting a 23-page thread saying he's done and will never pitch again.
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) I'm predicting a 10 page thread on how Hermanson is done and should retire immediately. Hell that was his best outing of the spring.
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) What did you major in at Iowa? My one friend in high school got a 32 on his ACT and got rejected from the college of engineering the year we applied ('04). Well on the other hand, I'm stuck in the college of LAS, I got rejected for my college of business transfer yesterday :banghead . EE / Comp E @ ISU I had a 30, and a ton of AP credit, (I had 25+ credit hours when I entered school). I had a relatively low GPA though considering the amount of weighted classes I took. Anything that wasn't weighted or that I didn't find interesting, I tanked. I just didn't care. After I applied, my aunt (a school teacher) told me I should have applied to LAS and transfered after a year or two. But I'm the eldest child, first to go to college, and fiercely independent. I made sure I did everything myself, without the input of friends, family, or counselers (mine had a heart attack during my senior year, and I wasn't assigned a replacement). I still have trouble accepting help from others. Easily one of my biggest weaknesses.
  5. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) I do believe the ISU-Kansas basketball games were voted the biggest rivalry on ESPN SportsNation. The White Sox also swept the Tribune's All-City voting...
  6. Back in the day, I was wait-listed, and offered deferred admission. I shouldn't have applied to the school of engineering (? I don't even remember anymore). Looking back on it. I probably should have accepted the deferred admission and had an extended summer, plus a semester of full-time grunt work somewhere, maybe getting some gen-eds out of the way at a CC. I probably would have been a lot better off for it.
  7. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) When I talked to him last year he said he felt really good, and was actually pretty dominant for two months. He faltered late in the year, but I think he'll be fine. I could have sworn there was a blurb about him having Tommy John, but after doing a google search, I can't find anything on it. He should be 100% healthy. He definitely had surgery, though it was reportedly not of the Tommy John variety. Don't count on him this year.

  9. This is so dumb... When you go to a bowl game you get a goody bag full of s***, (iPods, watches, portable DVD players, etc) but that's not illegal. Talk about ambiguously enforced rules.
  10. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Why was he in Carbondale? Partying at SIU for the weekend? My money would be keg stands in Normal. Admit it, you go to U of I. Who cares where the rest of those state schools are. They all suck anyway.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) Well, unless I'm missing something, Fabio Castro's 2005 pitching statistics look something like: 5W 5L 2.28ERA 79INN 37BB 75SO While, Cotts' looks something like: 4W 0L 1.94ERA 60.1INN 29BB 58SO Oh, and, I think I forgot, one of those two pitchers were pitchin in the big-leagues while one was at high-A ball. I'm projecting.... At Castro's age, Cotts was still doing keg stands in Carbondale. Castro's conquered High-A ball at age 20. I'd expect him to struggle if he made the bigs this year, but he's on a development plane that's ahead of Cotts.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) not as good. Why?
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) I didn't notice anything special with Castro. Fastball low 90's; breaking ball not very sharp Sounds like Cotts.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) how did they kill him off? He fell of a burning bridge while on fire, impaled himself on a stick, then was dismembered by a mountain lion and a bear, while being shot. Oh and he'll probably be back in Vader Chef form.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) No, I simply laugh when overconfident know it alls are proven wrong. So where's the thread about Aboz and Jay Wright then? Getting more to the point, you just don't like Iowa, and me by proxy. You don't like that I was around immediately following Iowa's loss. You wanted to hate on Iowa along with all your Iowa-hating messageboard buddies. You were upset that I was around to rain on the parade. Around here everyone goes into hiding when their team loses, I'm one of the few who will actually stand up and take a loss like a man, instead of starting threads about fixes and refs being bought off. Overconfident know-it-all, maybe, but it's better than being a shortsighted conspiracy theorist.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) I am in Tucson and was at the game behind home with the scouts. The radar the scouts were using had Jenks at 91 most of the time. He hit 92 once or twice,and 93 on the 2 run double. Real games are a week and a half away, I think Jenks may find he is not the closer if improvement isn't immenent. I don't think it means anything, but all of the scout's interest picked up when Politte took the mound. He hit 92 a couple of times. I don't know what the gun on television was showing, but Buerhle looked good, and he never got higher than 84. On TV... Cliff was consistent 91-92 Buehrle was consistent 86 Jenks was 93-94 most of the time.
  17. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) media members are increasingly paying attention to these kinds of boards. i have a friend who's a beat writer for a major daily and he said he checks boards regularly. he doesn't run with everything he sees, but there are things he can at least check out. frankly, if i was a beat writer i think i would not be doing my job if i wasn't checking. that is partly what disappointed me in the article. it was nice to see the soxtalk mention, but a more key point is why is this reaching the "mainstream" press. i wish the article would have explored further how a post on a message board gets into the regular news. to me, it is not news that some outlandish ideas are offered up on a fan web site. it is news that it would be picked up and run with by news outlets throughout the country who are supposed to be held to higher standards of accountability. The thing is... Even though Soxtalk may be the first place the rumor was seen in print of any kind, it was being circulated through newsrooms and such at the same time. Sparto51, was just one of the first to hear the rumor. Dan Patrick was on the air at the same time as that was posted, and at the beginning of his show he mentioned that there would be some big news on the horizon in the next few days. He was cryptic, but he heard the same rumor before it was posted here. It's not like the media ran with a rumor that was originating from here. It was originating from someplace genuine, it just gained the most recognition here.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) Pablo's gonna go deep to send this one to extras... That was deep for pablo.... It travelled well over 100 feet.
  19. Pablo's gonna go deep to send this one to extras...
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Scary. matched his walk total too.
  21. Jenks has allowed more hits in the last 5 minutes than Boone Logan has allowed all spring
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) I can't believe that rumor was started here. Blame it on Will Carroll. I'll start putting together a hatchet job to discredit him.
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) I think it's going to be difficult to link a physical magazine QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) http://premium.si.cnn.com/pr/subs2/siexclu...0327/index.html Weird. Not so difficult after all... Of course, I don't have a premium membership.
