Who do you think is going to be playing at B-ham?
Gene Honda Civic replied to baseballgal32's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) I'd guess that Sweeney and Fields probably start the year in AA, but maybe they decide to bump them up since they are two of our better prospects and they're both having a decent spring. They'll both start at Charlotte. -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) I'd call Dontrelle Willis on "wetting the bed" It's March freakin 13th. (at game time) He has that same performance any other March 13th, and nobody says anything. Just because it's the World Baseball Classic doesn't mean it's not spring training. Dontrelle has crazy mechanics. He's all elbows and knees. That takes some time to get refined. Ask our own 6'7" stork whose mechanics seem to have been off in each of his starts this ST.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) I want to go on record congratulating Boers and Bersie from the Score for calling this over two weeks ago. They said something was wrong, and they were right. I predict the sun will rise tomorrow. /I want some easy kudos too.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) I hope Zambrano found what he was looking for after sticking a finger deep in his nose. He nearly lost a finger searching for that nose nugget.

QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) so the winner of this advances basically, right? This should be a really fun ending. yeah, this is an elimination game.

QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Sorry to jump the thread, but this was hysterical. May not have been your intent, but was funny. Let me add this conversation..Today. Rick hahn: Hey kenny your not going to tell him you signed a guy with no hands are you? Kenny: Why not its better than what we have in our system anyway. Humor was the desired intent... No hands you say? He must play 3rd base.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) Tie game. For those of you watching how did Freddy look, my cable has been out 3 hours. A bit of first inning freddy, but more than anything he was just facing an awesome offense. Polanco slapped one to right. Tejada pulled a 3-2 breaking ball out of the dirt for a double, putting runners on second and third nobody out in the first. But from then on he was lights out. He got the next two batters out, before a slow roller to third by Alou scored a run. It was a play that Crede makes pretty regularly. Miguel Cabrera was slow to read the ball, and didn't pick it.

This has all the makings of a classic. If Damaso Marte comes in for DR, Venezuela's got a shot.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Will Carroll of BP deserves an apology. He had this story a couple of weeks ago, and the Cubs tried to make him look like an idiot. exactly... Teddy Greenstein wrote a smear piece in the Trib afterwards. Here's hoping Greenstien now apologizes and writes the truth about the lies that come out of the Cubs organization.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Just got back in, don't know if anyone was listening on the radio, Farmer brought up two interesting scenarios. Now if you listen to White Sox announcers (Farmer and Harrelson) you will often gain clues on who the Sox have on their radar. He (Farmer) made a point of mentioning this Luis Terrero guy, the fact he's out of options and can play all three OF positions. He also mentioned Luis Vizcaino is a perfect fit in the White Sox bullpen, how comfortable he was here and wondered aloud about how well he fits with the D-backs. Hmmm ... A third trade this off-season with the D'back, including a guy we just traded, would be unusual to say the least. At least we could change the punchline to the Alomar/Everett joke. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) He has good PH numbers, but I HATE his first pitch swing approach. BMAC really looks rushed in his windup today. He looked real tired that inning. The AB to torrero he could find the release point on the fastball. But it was a change, and it looked like a good one, that he crushed. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) BMAC mechanics look off to me. In his first two innings today he's looked better than he did early in either of his other outings. He's locating the fastball a lot better, and the curveball looks the best it's looked all spring, though it's still not sharp. The Change has been good all spring. -
Boone Logan to start in the majors?...

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) I also remember the Sox calling up an A ball pitcher during the season who turned out to be a pretty decent pitcher upon arrival. Scott Radinski. Calling Logan an "A" ball player is like calling Pedro Lopez a major leaguer. He's never played full season ball. Let's start bringing up the best hitter in the game who full season of dominating A ball before he made the big club. the following year. Dontrelle don't fit either. He had nothing but success in the minors, and had 200 more innings above rookie ball than does Logan. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) I love this topic. Nothing scarier to people than a 21-yr old getting a roster spot when he hasn't pitched above A ball. with good reason. You won't find a single player in major league history with his minor league resume both make a contending team out of camp and succeed off the bat. My question is, why give his three innings of Cactus League ball so much weight? He's got a full 5 innings of getting roughed up at Low-A Kannapolis -- Almost twice as many innings -
QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) To further add to my level of confidence, it's only 4-5 days before quickman goes to Arizona and I suspect he has motivational meetings set up with KW, Rick Hahn, etc. already to get this thing resolved. Fade in Phone rings Kenny Williams glances at the Caller ID on his Blackberry, pauses a beat, then dumps the call to voice mail. Rick Hahn: Aren't you going to answer that? KW: Nah, it's just quickman. Again. All he's going to do is tell me that you suck, and the minor league system sucks. I don't need that. I could get that at home from my wife. Fade out /end scene

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) With the exception of Tango (which I'v never heard of) the rest show the same stats I posted before. I still dont see how that classifies him as below average. He is a good player, is good enough to start on several major league teams, and good enough to be a solid defender in the WBC. He is a good player. Find me anywhere that says he's above average. (It'll be like finding WMDs in Iraq) Your definition of a good player, one who is above average, is extremely generous. "Good enough to start on several major league teams," is really faint praise considering he was bad enough in the field that the D'Backs, one of the worst teams in baseball, brought in Royce the Choice to shore up their defense. There will always be a few teams in such disarray that you can make the statement "he's good enough to start on several major league teams" to justify a player's worth. But it still doesn't make that player anything more than a reserve/utility player. Jose Valentin has been a solid defender in the WBC, Mets fans aren't clamoring for him to replace David Wright.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) What makes you think his glove is below average? I have him at a career fpct at SS as .972 4.33 RF .828 ZR Thats only slightly worse than Uribe's .974 5.03 .849 Just because certain fans want to get rid of a player, it doesnt mean he is a bad player. BP rates him as a below average defender. BB-R rates his range as below leage average Tango's scouting report by the fans rates him as below average. I don't think I can come up with a single metric where he rates as even an average defensive SS. I also never said he was a bad player. He's just not a good one.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Updates? Who's wet the bed aside from Willis? Flash, contrary to your belief that everyone is either a scrub or "wetting the bed," baseball is the most unpredictable game out there. Even the best team in history can lose to a clearly inferior team. Nobody should be at all surprised that the US is losing to Korea. But nobody should leave these games thinking Korea is a superior team, despite their undefeated record so far.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) DJ White will not be the best big man in the big 10 next year. Gregory Oden. Alex.Thompson.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Its totally lame. They should have just continued coverage or made this game at 7:30 (pacific time) and than there wouldn't have been any layover. Afterall if they have a doubleheader in basketball usually one game overlaps another by a little bit. MLB should do something about this. Maybe they can create there own channel (like the NFL and NBA have) and broadcast the US games live there next year. ESPN didn't sign on to broadcast these games until February.... So you should probably be happy they're being aired at all. They obviosly had contracts with other entities to broadcast their events far advance of signing to show the WBC.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) Why is ESPN lame enough to make the USA game on tape delayed. I'd watch it on deportes but I think there homerun call gets old. NONONONO you're wrong it's great. Also, with this US team, you won't have to worry about it too much. If he did the same thing for leaving the bases loaded though, you might need ear plugs.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) What channel is this game on? I just got done watching the Puerto Rico game. DEPORTES.... It will be tape delayed on ESPN2 at 11PM your time... 1AM here.... I think.
