QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:14 PM) I wish more games were on TV. Most people dont get ESPN Deportes. I realize that it was kind of quick fix deal with the TV contract and ESPN had obligations to other things. Hell, put it on ESPN News and ESPN Classic. get MLB Umpires, and the best Umps from the other leagues around the world Hold the competition every 2 or 3 years instead of 4 The TV thing is a simple fix. It wasn't showcased because ESPN couldn't contractually showcase it. MLB gets their s*** together earlier in 2008 for 2009 WBC, and practically every game will be aired live. MLB took so long to finalize the schedule that they didn't get around to getting someone to carrry the games on TV until February. By that time ESPN already had signed contracts to air other events such as Women's softball, and a dumb tennis event. There's no doubt that ESPN would have rather aired the WBC, but they had to uphold their contract with the other operations. ESPN Classic was a no-go because it didn't meet some requirement to be aired on the station. (I'm not sure what that requirement was, but I think I read that in Jayson Starks column this week.)

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) -Danny Wright wasn't that good, and had a ton of injuries. -Schoenweis was here for how long, and of that how long was he healthy? -Marte actually should be listed as another success story for Cooper seeing as the Sox snatched him from Pittsburgh for nearly nothing and turned him into one of the best lefties in baseball, that is until by all accounts he quit listening to everyone and turned into a crybaby who you couldn't correct or you would hurt his feelings. -Hernandez was hurt most of the year, surprise. -Loiaza went back to his pre-White Sox form of not listening to his managers and pitching coaches, which is what bought him his ticket out of Chicago. -Vizcaino really didn't do much, his numbers were pretty much what he had done in previous years, except instead of being the set up man, he was in middle and long relief for a team that used neither very often. So when a pitcher does well it's because of Cooper, and when a pitcher does poorly it's because he didn't listen and was injured. How long will Thornton take to straighten out? How many game will he cost us in the process?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 07:29 AM) Why does everyone doubt this Don Cooper's ability? He has more success stories than anyone this side of Leo Mazzoni, and yet there are still the snide remarks about him. Does anyone really believe that we win the world series with out Cooper's reclaimation projects of Jose Contreras, Neal Cotts, Bobby Jenks, and Jon Garland? Heck for good measure you could even throw in Esteban Loiaza who Coop fixed, and then we traded to get the guy who started all 3 game ones for us in the playoffs. Don Cooper deserves the benefit of the doubt when he asks Kenny to get him someone, at least until he gets proven wrong a few times. He's not god. Why did Danny Wright suck? Scot Schoeneweis? What happened to Marte? It took 12 months, and almost 200IP to get Contreras on track. Can we wait that long for Thornton? How come Vizcaino didn't improve? El Duque sure looked sorry for most of the season. How come Loaiza couldn't come anywhere near matching 2003 in '04? Shouldn't Coop get the blame there too?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) DYNOMITE. Ill have some more thoughts, but I just got back from spring training right now. Him and Tracey were the two most impressive guys I saw pitch for us. Tracey's last outing in big league camp was the first time I've ever been seen the fastball that I always hear you guys talking about. It looked good. Of course he didn't have it the first 3 times I saw him this year, though.

Sorry about the bump, but I was digging round the internet for some stuff on the Reed-Garcia trade... I thought it would be fun to revisit this one. Oh noes! Seattle has Reed and Borchard! and all we've got is a silly World Series Championship.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) He didn't look any better than Lopez did his first 3 or 4 scoreless outings. Yes, yes he did. You're watching results. I'm watching pitches. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Can't really say that after 1 outing. Yes I can. I'm watching his pitches and how he goes about the business of getting hitters out, independent of results. He looked much better than the other two LOOGY candidates. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Nah because most likely the guy he is going to be used over would of been just as bad. Who knows learning how to throw strikes is much easier than learning how to hit. So the only defense of trading a useful player for one who isn't useful, is that all we had was useless players to fill Thornton's roll? Thornton has had 7 years to learn how to throw strikes. He hasn't figured it out. What makes you think 2 weeks with Coop will suddenly cure him?
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) Nor does it hurt the Sox at all. sure it does.... If Thornton is on the roster, he's in danger of being used. That hurts the Sox.
