  1. Quite frankly, I don't care if his slash line is .000 / ,000 / ,000. Catcher is the one position you take a hit offensively, as he impacts nine opposing hitters. The White Sox only have one catcher on the 40 man roster, he needs to catch Kopech and Lucas every single time to maximize their performance.
  2. Powder River! Gets out of it, very nice. Hope he can somehow get through 6 innings tonight.
  3. Speaking of which, I hope Billy Hamilton starts one of the two games for Charlotte's doubleheader on Friday.
  4. Elvis Andrus becomes the 248th player to reach 2,000 games tonight. Congratulations on your great career (35.0 fWAR).
  5. Will be nice if Michael can go 6-7, bullpen needs light usage today and the day off tomorrow to reset. 6. It's for the best Zavala catches Kopech and Giolito. Give Grandal three days off and let him return Saturday with Lance Lynn, keep him fresh and healthy for the deadline.
  7. Just don't want it to turn into a jinx. Sox are a betting favorite tonight, which is somewhat surprising except for the fact Perez is LH.
  8. There will be an asterisk in my game thread record if the Sox lose though I think they have a good shot tonight, Go Sox! Happy Solstice!
  9. I still think Jerry will promote him to Kenny's spot once his contract is over and he retires. If they lose a hundred games and 2024 season ticket sales are dismal, I guess there is a slight possibility. In most organizations, he likely would have been gone in 2016, and certainly in 2023 with 90 + losses.
  10. Not sure if this thread will continue with the No date thread title, but here is what’s going on today at the ballpark. Lineup - Wonder if Eloy will not play RF not as much going forward. Miracle League Highlights
  11. Yes, and have a little patience and make sure you have proper coverage before DFAing guys you can work with on the side like Diekman pitching decent (but not great see FIP) in Tampa. Sox: ERA 7.94 (bad); FIP 5.93 (bad luck) TB: 2.77 (solid); FIP 4.43 (better luck). Same deal with Lance Lynn: ERA: 6.51 (bad) vs. FIP 4.95 (bad luck). Thought Colome was toast, ok with that DFA.
  12. These are the low risk acquisitions (Cueto, Middleton, McCann, Elvis 1.0) that are the one win in Hahn's column over the years. Hope it works out for the Touki and team. Hahn swoops in to pick up the scraps.
  13. Jerry Reinsdorf clearly knew Tony La Russa’s physical agility and mental prowess would give the White Sox an overwhelming advantage, including the ability to pinch run for Grandal and Vaughn.
  14. Katz fixed Lucas and Cease, among others. Cooper fixed himself a huge sandwich.
  15. Tony never challenges the play at home for both safe out and blocking. Likely doesn’t understand the rule. Tony NEVER inserts either Luis Robert Jr. or Tim Anderson after “their promised day off”. But to the Bridgeport crowd and Bob Nightengale, Tony should get a second plaque in Cooperstown.
  16. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/collisions-at-home-plate The catcher is not permitted to block the runner's path to the plate unless he is in possession of the ball, though blocking the path of the runner in a legitimate attempt to receive a throw is not considered a violation. The runner can be ruled safe if the umpire determines the catcher violated this rule. But per a September 2014 memorandum to the rule, the runner may still be called out if he was clearly beaten by the throw. Backstops are not subject to this rule on force plays. The last sentence answers the questions of throws to the plate with the bases loaded.
  17. Baseball is dying because the owners have worked the past few decades to maximize revenue per attendee. Owners have shut down dozens of minor league markets, by and large moved all games to a pay cable/satellite model, rendered the regular season near meaningless for most teams by having a 12 team playoff farce mostly if not all on cable/pay TV, cancelled the 2020 season and tried the same with their latest lockout. Can't even walk up to the ticket window, vendor or concession stand with cash, excluding people who were able to attend in the past. 19. It's a mutual option on Clevinger and he gets a better deal if he is decent and healthy, or Sox pay $4M for him to leave as a sunk cost. So Cease, Kopech, and perhaps Lynn is what 2024 is looking like at this point internally. I can Hahn signing Lynn on a 1 or 2 year. $10M is per year deal if he wants to continue and the Sox aren't doing an under $100M payroll tear down. If they are able to execute what they've said about Crochet, then perhaps he can give you 100-125 innings, but it keeps looking more and more as though bullpen is the most likely scenario. This is why I think they should have claimed Plesac and a few more guys like him, with lower 2024 salaries so if you add 4-5 guys beyond Cease and Kopech and have a decent plus 2B, RF and C somehow, they can say they are trying in 2024.
