  1. The bullpen, beyond a few exceptions, have exceeded expectations. The lack of length beyond the first two starters is hurting the team, with Rodon and Lopez the primary culprits. (2020 IP per GS) + (Most recent 30+ (or max) GS season) Within career norms: Giolito: 6.1 (2019 6.1) Keuchel: 5.9 (2018 6.0) Cease: 5.1 (2019 5.2) Below career norms: Gonzalez 4.3 (2018 5.3) Rodon 2.9 (2016 5.9) Lopez 2.4 (2019 5.6) Rookie: Dunning 4.7 They will need at least one additional starter beyond Kopech next year, or for Rodon and or Lopez to pitch 5+ IP/GS to piece together a 162 game rotation.

  3. Nope. Only Sox message board previous was WSI, under the same user name. http://www.flyingsock.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=62100 I've said my piece on the front office until this off-season. Peace.
  4. Well if one worked for the White Sox, they could suck at their job for decades, continue to get promotions, and create new positions to promote you two-three levels beyond one's competency, because one level is not how Jerry rolls. The last two seasons (2014-off-season - 2016 off-season) Hahn's two biggest trades while attempting to "win now" (WAR records with the acquiring team) December 2014; Traded Marcus Semien (18.8), Chris Bassitt (4.2) and Josh Phegley (2.9) for Jeff Samardzija (0.3). June 2016: Traded Fernando Tatis Junior (6.9) for James Shields (0.1). Hahn had Top 10 draft picks despite trying to win, and these were his first round picks and next player selected: June 2015: #8 Carson Fulmer (-1.2 WAR), next player selected #9 Ian Happ (4.7). June 2016: #10 Zach Collins (-0.5 WAR), next player selected #11 Kyle Lewis (1.9). Accountability: Blackhawks: John McDonogh Three Stanley Cup Championships: Fired by Rocky Wirtz in 2020 Bulls: Gar Pax (Winning Record / Executive of the Year): Fired by Michael Reinsdorf in 2020 Cubs: Joe Maddon World Series Champion: Contract not renewed in 2019 Vs. Friends of Jerry: Don Cooper (Hired 1988) - Pitchers go to their High School coach because, well what other choice do they have to improve. Kenny "One Shining Moment" Williams (Hired 2000 as GM, after a decade in other Friend of Jerry Roles). Rick Hahn (Hired in 2002, promoted to GM 2013). Hired Ricky Renteria in 2016. Liked him so much, promoted him in 2017 signed through 2020, then extended his contract again in 2019. See draft and trade results above for more of his work.
  5. Seriously, for unlawful carnal knowledge fangraphs. Bottom line is David Stearns and Farhan Zaidi have winning records and playoff success as General Managers, and Rick Hahn has one of the worst records in MLB (517-658 .440). Stearns paid Grandal to go away after last season, and Zaidi didn't consider resigning him once he became a free agent. They both had enough. Catching Records McCann 12-6 Grandal 15-11 The White Sox needed an outfielder and more pitching if they were to compete this year. Their current record is inflated by the heavy dose of garbage the COVID schedule provided. If it weren't for Abreu's recruitment of Cubans and Lucas Giolito's High School pitching coach, the Sox would have finished with yet another losing season. Williams, Hahn, Renteria and Cooper all need to go, a complete redo from top to bottom just like the Bulls are doing. Will they wait for Jerry to finally leave his role, or until this window comes and goes before finally pulling the trigger, which they should have done after 2015? Likely the latter. I have no confidence in Hahn making the moves required to bring a championship. Hahn signed Renteria twice, the second time with an extension. These Friends of Jerry are long past their expiration date.
  6. Grandal is pathetic. Period. Play a real catcher from now on.
  7. God Forbid Mr. "Elite" would bother trying for that one.
  8. That was a Dick Diggler performance by Nick, watch the third base coach this time.
  9. No, want the White Sox to win the WS in four games, like last time.
  10. I don't believe playoff games do not count for consecutive game streaks, beyond season ending tie breaker games.
  11. Dumb rookie, but he may be safe. Capra put the stop sign per Stone.
  12. Can any of these other pitchers get in touch with their High School pitching coach? Is Don Cooper still alive, or is has a taxidermist added remote control wheels to allow mound visits? Forgot he has been a Friend Of Jerry since 1988, when Ronald Reagan was still in office. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/white-sox/ct-spt-white-sox-don-cooper-20190416-story.html
  13. I predict the White Sox will win 10 or more to finish at or above .600, and that a majority here will still be calling for Rick Renteria to be fired. 14. Whatever they are able to salvage via trade or performance in the future is a bonus. The whole drama surrounding leaving the team would only be an unnecessary distraction to the team at this point. If he is willing and able to return to baseball in a future season, perhaps he can contribute beyond four starts for the White Sox, or be included in a trade that nets players who can contribute.
  15. Very nice, it is awesome you and your friend and his son were able to attend the clincher in Anaheim. Obviously I'm new here, but on White Sox Interactive there was a strong contingent who also attended the games at the time. I was on that site for 3 or 4 years before being banned by the nazi's there (several thousand posts there over the years) with most of my friends there (Chips, Cheeses, Yoda et al). Dropped out of all Sox message boards after that experience, but decided to take the plunge here with the exciting season the Sox are having (and should have in the future). I hear what you are saying between what you want / your considered best options, my post was written in light of what has occurred and what I believe will occur. September / October innings will be more stressful than what Foster has faced to date, so it will be interesting to see if he can sustain his success in light of his limited experience and the league getting a chance to prepare for him. I like how he challenges hitters and isn't afraid to throw strikes. Detwiler has been a pleasant surprise as well, but I understand their baby steps approach with him to help build on his current year success. He is playing well above his career norms (1.59 ERA this year, 6.98 (2019), 4.50 (2018), 5.13 (career)), and I understand the conservative approach to ensure he is comfortable to maintain his success. There will be opportunities to give him higher leverage opportunities against the Twins, Cleveland and the Cubs before the games REALLY matter. Hoping to return to the West Coast (San Diego, Long Beach and Vegas) this winter, returned home March 10th a few days before Chicago lock downs, and with continued closures haven't planned a return trip but would like to when things can reopen.
  16. Thanks for pointing out Colome. I envisioned Foster working in a close ball game, either coming in after Cease or Dunning in the mid innings. Gio can come if a starter can't get out of the first three innings, to save the bullpen. Cooper/Renteria have really relied on Cordero as the first reliever in. I agree he isn't necessarily the best option, but he is the best option in terms of what they see, which is why I listed him second behind Detwiler. Rodon has to come back period, but assuming he can be comfortable warming up and coming in on shorter notice than a starter can prepare, I believe his best role at least for this year is 6th/7th inning work, with Marshall handling the eighth. I can see your point about Heuer, DC/RR is more hesitant using him. All teams are at a disadvantage this year in terms of developing a bullpen. We have a much younger bullpen than many contenders, so the entire month against good teams will shake out more definitive October roles. Hahn didn't add anything, and Bummer's injury has hurt the reliability beyond a few good performers at this point. Hope one or two more can step up between now and season end, or that they get more comfortable with the strong performers like Foster, Detwiler and Heuer, if they can continue pitching well through September. Where you among the SoCal WSI fans that gathered for the 2005 ALCS Angels series?
  17. Starters: 1. Keuchel; 2. Giolito; 3. Cease; 4. Dunning. Long (2-3 IP): 1. Foster; 2. Gonzalez Short (1 IP) Middle: 1. Detwiler; 2. Cordero; 3. Heuer; 4. Cishek Setup: 7th Rodon; 8th Marshall Closer: Colome (Edit - thanks @CaliSoxFanViaSWside ) Off the roster: Burdi, Flores, McRae I personally would consider rostering Burdi if they plan on keeping him beyond this year for experience. Cishek can pitch in mop up / eat innings in a blowout. Assuming Bummer remains on the IL.
  18. Yes, that makes the most sense, though they haven't announced anything yet. Ballpark configuration is the key advantage of playing at a home stadium beyond the last at bat. When I read about this new format, which hopefully is one and done (16 teams playoffs are absurd, especially for baseball), I thought I also read teams would be able to select their opponent for the opening round based on seed (#1 seed could pick any team, #2 the next then #3 with #4 defaulting to the final remaining team). The way things stand now, it sucks to be the top two seeds without the selection format, as you are stuck playing the Yankees or Astros. Standings will likely change, but I think for a one time only format (16 teams), the selection show for teams to select playoff opponents would be very interesting for teams and fans.
  19. Nice job by Ricky and his team to buckle down with the sudden loss of Dallas and plug away to put things away, scoring in three in two straight innings after his departure. Everyone in the lineup fattened up their stats today, bullpen beyond Cishek did well when it looked like the bullpen was getting a day off today. Schedule nice for one more week before turning brutal with 17 straight games, all but three (Reds, who aren't terrible) against winning teams. If Dallas misses a start, the Sox can go four man with the two off days before returning to five. All in all, another great week for the Chicago White Sox. Hopefully some of the angst in the game thread and elsewhere can be dialed back a bit as well.
  20. Haters going to hate! Yolmer up to 1.167 OPS!!! Makes a great hammock to boot.
  21. Like to see Marshall for the 8th and Burdi or Foster for the 9th to close it out.
