2023 League Championship Series
Did that called third strike look as bad on TV as it did on Gameday? Need robotic strike calls OD 2024. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/748550/play/55

Paddy is signing the older players following Jerry's way. Hahn drafted older college ready DHs and RPs following Jerry's way. Getz developed players in the minors Jerry's way. That's what this has been all about since he fired Roland Hemond and replaced him with Hawk Harrelson. It's all Jerry's way, everyday, everyway.

2023 League Championship Series
I'd rather have Abreu retire as a White Sox for life than the failed free agents they wasted funds on. They should have purged or never acquired Eloy, Sheets, Vaughn, Grandal and others rather than keep them all and purge their MVP. Luke Appling is the only top White Sox position player to complete his career with the Chicago White Sox. This is why the organization is held in such low regard both on and off the field over the past century plus. Top All Time White Sox bWAR position players: 77.5 Luke Appling (1930-1950) - Lifelong White Sox 68.3 Frank Thomas (1990 - 2005) - Disgracefully chased away and insulted by Kenny Williams 66.8 Eddie Collins (1915-1926) - Started & ended career with the Philadelphia Athletics. 47.4 Nellie Fox (1950-1963) - First three years with Philadelphia, finished career with Houston. 41.4 Minnie Minoso (1951-1957, 1960-1961, 1964, 1976, 1980) Acquired in 1951, traded a few stints. 39.4 Robin Ventura (1989-1998) - Dumped by Jerry to finish 6th in MVP voting following season. 35.3 Luis Aparicio (1956-1962 &1968-1970) - Another player to leave for MVP contention elsewhere. 33.2 George Davis (1902, 1904-1909) - Played into his 30s with the Giants before arriving for a WS here. 33.1 Ray Schalk (1912-1928) - Dumped to play one more year, starting Sox tradition of dumping HOFers. 32.0 Fielder Jones (1901-1908) - Started with Brooklyn, rejoined the Federal League in 1914. 31.8 Jose Abreu (2014-2022) - Smug Rick Hahn all but kicked his ass out the door, spent the $ on Benintendi. Hope Jose wins and enjoys multiple World Series before retiring. He deserves all the success in the world.

Benintendi played twice the number of games, but also had a higher negative dWAR (-0.8) than Colas (-0.7) at the far weaker position. Also via Fangraph Metrics (Benintendi -14.4 vs. Colas -8.4 vs. Sheets -9.2), and getting paid close to $70M more over five years to play both offense and defense like garbage at the weaker position. Of course cheap ass Jerry Reinsdorf makes this garbage free agent their highest paid in history. Just for the record, Juan Pierre in 2010 was the last left fielder for the White Sox to finish with a positive FanGraphs defensive score. Last Season a White Sox Qualifed (3.1 ABs per game) Player finished with a positive FanGraphs Defensive Rating: Catcher James McCann 2019 1.8 First Base None since the metric began in 2002. Second Base Yolmer Sanchez 2019 4.4 Third Base Yoan Moncada 2021 3.6 Shortstop Tim Anderson 2023 4.0 Left Field Juan Pierre 2010 5.7 Center Field Luis Robert Junior 2023 7.6 Right Field Avisail Garcia 2017 0.9

Hahn Era Royals over Sox (5): 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 Sox over Royals (6): 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 Royals finished strong (15-12 Sept/Oct). Without substantial off-season White Sox acquisitions, the Royals will likely finish ahead of the Sox next season. Any word on when Soxfest tickets go on sale?

Kim Ng walks away from Marlins
Kim Ng seems like a nice person. I wouldn’t wish employment under Jerry on her or any other human being. Its the place to go for FO and players with no other viable options with few exceptions (Jason B. being one who has to deal with Boyer bullshit each year, and Jerry’s cheap ass when he made them announce road games in a Chicago bunker).

We have a new League Championship Series leaderboard through Thursday. Congratulations to Jose Abreu and the Houston Astros for bringing in great players with the desire to win and play their best. And I have the answer, which was convoluted. The White Sox initially selected Rudy May, but due to his no-trade clause the White Sox instead selected Steve Mura. https://www.nytimes.com/1984/01/19/sports/white-sox-cull-pool-of-1500.html So it appears Russ Morman was the compensatory pick for losing Billy Almon. @Lip Man 1

There is conflicting information on the interwebs regarding this. Baseball Reference and Wiki states Russ Morman was the Supplemental Draft Pick the White Sox received for for losing Steve Kemp. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chicago_White_Sox_first-round_draft_picks#endnote_1983draftd This site states Russ Morman was a supplemental pick for losing Billy Almon. https://www.prosportstransactions.com/baseball/DraftTrades/1983-1-10.htm This is what your own notes state about the situation. https://www.southsidesox.com/2023/1/26/23571186/today-in-chicago-white-sox-history-january-26 So, if what you state is true, which player(s) did the Sox select for losing Steve Kemp? And why was it open to any team vs. the team they lost Steve Kemp to?

Pito!!!- 2023 League Championship Series
Said on the broadcast? Is very bad to steal Jose Abreu's integrity. Is Very Bad!- 2023 League Championship Series
So they are blabbing about Mitch Trubinski or whoever the Bears QB is instead of broadcasting Game 4 of the Astros vs. Rangers. Thankfully there is streaming on the internet. https://www.espn.com/radio/play/_/s/mlb Dane Dunning is up in the Bullpen, Astros up 3-0 with Jose Abreu at bat. Go Pito! Seven wins away from a World Series Championship!- 41% decrease in viewership
Not belittling out of town fans, be it they lived here before or just adopted the team for whatever reason as I did the Expos in the 1970s. It's cool that people can support and follow the team in a way people couldn't pre-internet beyond possibly being within range of the White Sox radio network, Just stating my case as a Chicagoan in terms of your statements regarding large numbers of Sox fans becoming Cubs fans and or still following baseball to the extent they do now post moving. The White Sox have been home here for up to 6 + generations of fans, in Chicago, on 35th and Shields, where they have been since being a charter member of the American League in 1901. Not in Arlington Heights, not in Decatur Illinois, not in Gary Indiana, not in Nashville Tennessee, not in San Antonio Texas.- Getz
9 MLB seasons, 207 games, negative 0.1 bWAR. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mormaru01.shtml- '23 -'24 Free Agency
Would say selecting and developing, but this is the core of the matter. Until they fix this, everything else is irrelevant. The era of Kenny flipping his failed garbage prospects into quality players (which he could identify but Hahn could not) with mostly Good Ole Boy non-analytical FOs are over. The Sox are one of the few teams left in baseball with a Fred Flintstone Era FO.- Getz

You’ve advocated for the Sox to move to Nashville for months. You also live in Texas, so hard for out of towners to gauge what’s happening here today vs. those who have lived here their entire life. Now all the things that seemed important, well Mister they vanished right into the air…- 41% decrease in viewership
This is a solid post. I agree a subset of fans would move to Cubs or perhaps adopt another team. But I do believe there are a lot like me who like the Sox but that’s about it after how MLB has been run post Fay Vincent. I agree the faux rivalry North vs. South is a lot of BS, but plays more to the average person that do not follow as closely as fans on message boards. The only experience I have with something similar to the Sox moving would be family members and old timers I worked with at the racetracks in the 1980s who hated the Bears after they pushed out the Cardinals, and largely adopted Green Bay. I followed / went to Steeler (at Soldier Field) and Green Bay games in Milwaukee & here, but stopped following the NFL a few decades ago shortly after the Packers stopped playing in Milwaukee. The last game I attended was at the final game Three Rivers Stadium, and only watched last year’s SB, the first since the late 1990s, because I watched out of town with family. That said, I still hate the Bears and enjoy hearing about their abysmal failures post Lovie. I would take similar pleasure hearing of Sox failures if they left Chicago (even to the suburbs). It would have been three decades of schadenfreude if Jerry moved to Tampa, because they would be dead last nearly every year, and only make money with a tanking annual payroll. I could see them legitimately contracting the Sox when that was a discussion a few decades ago. Can you imagine Jerry trying to draw 10,000 in that s%*# stadium and location? Schadenfreude.- 41% decrease in viewership
You’re pissing away a substantial number of Sox fans (would say 1M-2M +) who will never support the Cubs. If you have your way I guess we will find out. I only follow the Sox. Abreu getting a ring is the extent of my playoff interest this year. Won’t watch a second of Texas vs. Phil or Arizona, didn’t watch a second of playoffs last year and most other years since 1994 (2005 and 2020 vs. Oakland the primary exceptions). Having a team back in Montreal would be the only way I’d consider returning to baseball, since the Expos were my 1A to my Sox 1.- Kim Ng walks away from Marlins
They are 2025 Free Agents. I agree would be nice to bring in better 4-5 and shift both to the bullpen, but don’t see the Sox being able to sign five solid FA pitchers, will be lucky to get two. With Jerry, they will likely get zero.- Getz
Don’t even have to go as far back as Hemond. Himes built the only legitimate multi-year championship contending core, but was shitcanned for not kissing Jerry’s ass enough. Kenny did a solid job collecting scraps to build a legitimate WS winner for less than fifty cents on the dollar, though that ran its course after the Feud with Ozzie. Need a new owner to get anyone qualified to run the show.- '23 -'24 Free Agency
The Garfeins, McGruffs and others want to spend even more net money to replace Eloy with Justin Turner, Elvis with Merrifield. Clamored for and pimped La Russia’s arrival. Kelly, Lynn, Eaton, Keuchel we’re great team guys as well. Far higher salaries, far less net production, but oh does it improve “culture”, or so they claim. Funny how the same great culture all looks the same in a police lineup, all are way over the hill and should already be out of baseball, all overpaid, yet highly praised year after year after year by the same Jerry paid media schmucks. Same at the Executive level. Kenny with his WS and legitimate rosters was garbage. Hahn and Getz were great hires with their hands tied. Hahn had great ideas and was foiled for 12 years. Getz is the only guy who does it the right way, the Jerry way. White Sox baseball. Some things will never change…- 41% decrease in viewership
A substantial percentage of MLB fans will shrink in this market. No more garbage crosstown series to pimp for either team to the drunks and clowns. Less people have Marquee than JerryTV. MLB was fine with Oakland moving because that MSA market is half the size (4.6M) of Chicago (9.3M), and SF/Oakland continues to shrink over the past three years with endless lockdowns, vast numbers of businesses closing / leaving, and net replacement largely consisting of a lowered external immigration rate and large numbers of drug addict homeless moving in. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-03-25/california-census-data Bottom line is perhaps Ricketts would be happy, but the 29 other owners would not be, including whatever asshole moves the Sox out of Chicago when the long term impact is considered. Same as if Illinois actually followed the law, let the clock run out, and let the scumbag Dodger fans schlep the team to Tampa Bay to field annual 100-120 loss teams with a fraction of the revenue available here. Would have screwed up the Bulls as well with no programming half the years for SportsVision et al. - White Sox 2023 Playoff Thread
