  1. Thank you but i've been here for a whille and even started 3 discussion. Been around and replied many times. Looking forward to an exciting season and a couple of more big signings hopefully or even trades. Take care and GO SOX and hopefully we'll get a DH and a closer. I'd hate to have to use Bummer in the 9th instead of the 8th.
  2. I assume your talking about me. Does spelling really matter that much?? The thought and conversation and having fun until the season starts and having these discussions among fans that love the team and are excited about the upcoming 2021 season, isn't that what counts??? Hopefully we can attend games and watch the ball fly out of the park!!!
  3. Rumor has it that the Angels and Yankees are offering 4 or 5 year deals at around 180 to 200 million. He is not signing for 1 year anymore, especiaaly in this enviroment, and don't forget the Mets or Dodgers. JR won't spend 200 million on a pitcher. 30 to 40 for 1 year to go for it, YES. I'd love to have a combo of Bauer and Hendricks, I'd run down and get season tickets immediately. I'm showing my age by this next statement but thats what i did when we signed Fisk, the next day i was a season ticket holder until the last year of old Comiskey Park. Hell, they've made a bunch of great trades and moves to get to this point and have a shot at winning it in the next couple of years with or without Bauer or Hendricks. Crochet, Steiver, Huer, Gio, Kuechel, Lynne, Foster, Fry , Marshall, Cease , Kopech and Bummer is not a bad start and what if a miracle happens and Lopez developes (LOL) Need to extend Gio and Lynne for a foundation. if you have a BIG 3 you're competitive every year. Kopech may or may not be the key. Then you'd have 4 and the 5th could be anyone. Big Dreams but fun to dream. Either way they will be must see TV for sure this year. Collins will probably at this time be the backup catcher and Vaughan may be the DH with no major league experience.
  4. Forget theTwins, Forget the Yankees and Angels. Forget about Bauer, hopefully he ends up in the NL. Hendricks, if he is the only signing is NOT the answer. If we put all our eggs in one basket and spend let's say 30 to 40 million on Hendricks we are not a complete team. we still need a DH/Outfielder, another starter in case Kopech/Lopez /Cease don't workout and a backup catcher. We have 2 catchers in the minors that are 27 years old and Collins who might be a bust. Odorizzi, Quintana, Morton, Tanaka just to name few and others are still out there. A Brantley/Colome combo and a starter would be better than just Hendricks. Would i love a Brantley/Hendricks combo instead?? Of course. With Brantley in left, you can DH Eloy and solve 2 problems. Bullpen by comittee may be the alternative. Keep an eye out for a slleeper. Stiever. he may emerge by the All Star Break.
  5. yes, Sox always fly under the radar but there isn't even a whisper about signing anyone this week, Hey, hopefully I'm and we get a great Xmas present of either Hendricks, Brantley or BOTH!!!
  6. i don't want to be a debbie downer and love Hendricks. Robertson deal might make them gun shy. I think RH is good and done a great job so far but 3 or 4 years for any closer is probably not going to happen 2 years 25 million is more the WSOX speed, whether it be Colome or Hendricks. Prefer Hendricks but Colome didn't disappoint last year and can have another good year or 2. If the Sox have lets say 30 to 50 million left to spend and i know a 20 million is a large spread, but i think if Brantley is still out there and a good number 3 or 4 starter, i'd go that route and use Bummer, Heur and Crochet to Close. Would i give Hendricks 3 for 39?? Yes. Could probably get Colome for 2 for 25, sign Brantley and look for another starter
  7. My wish list is Brantley and either Colome or Hendricks, prefer Hendricks. Vaughn needs a year or at least until the trade deadline with the Barons. He's not hit above Class A ball to my knowledge. Another starter (innings eater preferred). Collins in my opinion, unless we can see him full time may become a bust. Sevy or Yermin could handle a backup spot UNLESS they use Collins like we used McCann, so we don't burn out Grandal with catching 140 to 150 games and we don't sign a legit DH. Vaughn is definitely seen as the air apparent to Abreu. Remember Sevy and Yermin are 27!!! no spring chickens and with the state and need for catching, nobody needs them or inquired about them. I had high hopes for Collins, he's 25 and this is a make or break year for him. Engel could play Left or Right and Eloy could DH also if we can't get Brantley.
  8. Enough with the Trump Quote, Make the Sox Great Again, YES, Trump is Done as of today, we should not associate the Sox with someone who's officially done as of today.
  9. Eaton is not the beat all end all as they say, BUT in my opinion he is an upgrade from Mazara, not a big upgrade but an upgrade. If this deal nets us Brantley and Hendricks, its a great move if money was an issue and by signing Adam, gives Hahn the extra cash to go get Brantley and Hendricks great. Do or did I want Springer and Bauer?? Of course I did or even still do. But you JR, he's not going to pay $150 to $200 million for either of them. Adding Lynn gives us the Starter we needed last year to pitch game 3. Oh well, we had a shitty manager who didn't know how to manage pitching or a bullpen. Now, even though he's old and he like his cocktails, and not my 1st choice for a manager, he does know how to manage a game and a bullpen and starters. If we get Hendricks or bring back Colome, along with Bummer, and the rest of the young studs, Huer, Fry, Marshall, Crochet, Marshall, and Cordero. we have a bullpen that a lot teams would want to go to war with. If Kopech, Cease or by some miracle Lopez can emerge as decent 4's or 5's and we get one more innings eater as a #4 we can live with Eaton. We still have Engel as defensive replacement for Eloy in left or this team is even deep enough, if and this is a big IF Eaton is 2016/2017 Eaton, we will be fine. Backup catcher could become a problem. McCann won't be back. We have 2 guys that we may need to count on as the backup. Zack, Yermin or Seby need to step up if a veteran at good price can't be obtained. Who knows who gets cut in Spring Training. There are some #4's and #5's still out there that also could be a bargain. We may not win it this, or we will. I believe we a definitely playoff bound and even win the Central. Too much talent not to, especially if we get 2019 Moncada and Grandal.
  10. Stretch him out in Minors, AA ball is where the up and coming stars are. I agree, a Chris Sale path may be the right way to go. We need a quality # starter until he's ready. Hopefully Kopech will get his head out of his ass and Cease improves.
  11. we now have our own Jerry Krause. Stroman won't come here for Bauer Money and Bauer probably won't come either. JR won't compete with Met's, Angel, Padres, Yankee's, and Dodgers. These teams are serious about winning. We hire TLR, not Hinch, not Cora, not Bochy or whoever else was out there. He's going to be toxic to quality free agents. Not that I believe that Stroman was the the beat all end all, BUT, him calling TLR a racist, is a bad sign. Jerry Krause couldn't sign anybody of qualityitly and the Bulls always settled for the 3rd, 4th or 5th choice and overpaid. Now, before yo jump on me i know TLR is not the GM and signing players is RH, KW and JR. But the manager is looked at before a player signs. I had a very positive outlook for 2021, but this signing of TLR could ruin the chemistry of this team.
  12. La Russa is on twitter. Yes he's in his 70's. I would of Preferred Hinch or even Cora but this was JR's call. Not Hahn, Not KW's. As they say "it is what it is". What worries me is what's his chemistry going to be with this new, young, exciting team that's been built. If they go out a get a good #3 or #4 starter, the sky may be the limit. I love Anderson's bat flips, Jimenez and Robert's enthusiasm. We can't have Tony become a Nazis and try to change this chemistry and fun these guys want to have. I sent Tony a welcome back text and also mentioned the enthusiasm, bat flips and the fun they have and he needs to let it continue and guide these kids to 2 or 3 or 4 WS championships with right pitching additions. Hopefully La Russa picks the right pitching coach to get Cease, Dunning, Kopech and Crotchet to the next level like Are old pitching coach got Buehrle, Garland, etc. to next level. Everybody on twitter should send Tony a text, wishing well and tell him not to screw this Great Team Up. Let them bat flip, show enthusiasm, and let them have fun!!!! He's a smart baseball man, HOF manager, but I'm a little worried if he's out touch with today's young player and the use of analytics. We are on the cusp of winning consistently and be a perennial playoff team like the Braves and Dodgers. With the right additions, we can be the Dodgers of the American League!!!
  13. Taijuan -- Career ERA of 3.84, 27 years olds. In 2020. averages just under a strike out per inning. 2020 4-3 with a 2.70 ERA. 53 innings/50 SO'S worthy to take a look at as a # 4/#5 starter?? Jake-- Creer ERA of 3.92, 30 years olds. had a great 2019 Won 62 lost 52 15-7 in 2019 ERA 3.51 ERA. is he worthy to take a look at as a # 4/#5 starter?? We all want Bauer, Stroman is a long shot because of La Russa.
  14. Ok, before everyone goes nuts and jumps on me this is not a vote of confidence and me saying sign Jon Lester and I'm only in favor if he passing a serious physical and is willing to sign a 1 year deal. Pro's for signing him: Stroman doesn't like La Russa Bauer probably won't sign, Sox won't pony up the money Veteran who knows how to win May sign an affordable contract with incentives, i.e. innings, era, starts etc. Stop Gap until Kopech, Crotchet and Cease are ready Left hander Can be used in long relief if being a starter doesn't work. Con's for signing him: Ex-Cub, LOL Age, 36/37 Below average 2020 Showing signs of wear Can't throw to 1st Base, LOL Ex-Cub,LOL HE may have illusions of grandeur of what he's worth May not have anything left in the tank. This is a last resort move if absolutely nobody else can be signed
  15. I've looked at Joc's stats. 250 hitter. I'm ok with that, we got plenty of hitters to carry a 250 hitter. his OBP is 330 to 350. he averages around 28 HR'S a year. Currently playing left field because of Betts. He's better defensively than Mazara. So is Engel at 10% of the cost. Mazara might get 6 million in arbitration or 3 million. who knows. is Joc worth 2 or 3 times the price of Mazara?? Not sure. It's a cost thing with me. Bauer and Stroman + Engel in right as opposed to Ozuna or Peterson?? I started this Ozuna discussion and not flip flopping, or maybe I am. I'll take a combination of 2 very good starters and maybe a super starter like Bauer plus whoever and live Engel in right so we have the money for 2 pitchers, A BAUER AND A STROMAN OR EQUIVALENT OF STROMAN IS THE ANSWER. As we see with this current World Series and our failure in the playoffs, you need 3 Studs on the mound plus a 4th. Cease or whoever. Kopech??
  16. Is Marcell Ozuna the answer in Right Field?? Signed a 1 year 18 million deal last year with Atlanta. They want him back, only 30 years old. Hits for a much higher average than Mazara and consistent power. A year younger than Springer. Average at best outfielder. Springer better defensively but a year older. No big deal there but Ozuna could easily hit 40 HR's at Sox park, especially in the summer and with the protection he'd be surrounded by and the protection he also could provide hitting 5th or 6th. 4 years 100 million could get it done.
  17. unless Hahn and Williams are no longer with the team Ozzie might of had a chance. Hahn came right out and said it a day or two after they fired RR. Hahn at his press conference came flat out and said Ozzie will not be considered and even called Ozzie and told him he's not being considered.
  18. Ok, starting over please on this topic. I believe our weakness in 2021 is a #3 and #4 and who's going to close if JR doesn't resign Colome. Should Colome be resigned?? Yes, We JR do it? I believe he won't because Hahn may be whispering in his ear that Bummer and or Huer can do it. Maybe Maybe Not. I still believe Stroman and Bauer should be the targets but Bauer my be out of JR'S League. White Sox have never spent 100 to 150 million on pitcher. 78 million for Grandl is most they've ever spent. JR and Williams believe it's risky based on pitchers breaking down.if Bauer stays with his pattern of 1 year deals, then hopefully JR will poney up 30 or 35 million for a year to go for it. For 1 year the money is there with the payroll they've shed or are about to. stroman will command 80 to 100 million because of the lack of great starters available and his age, 29 i believe. Kopech Cease and Crotchet may not be ready. Crotchet needs to be stretched out, Kopech, is he mentally ready?? Cease needs innings in minors and maybe brought up in May or June. Duning and Lopez, Big questions marks still. Trades are also a possibility, but at what price.
  19. I'm going to start a new discussion about pitching and hopefully with no Mazara speak. JUST Bauer or PITCHING. Thank you
  20. i agree with two gun Pete, Maloney and Sleepy. This is a Bauer blog not a Mazara blog. I've also tried to steer this conversation back to Bauer and at pitching which is are BIGGEST PRIORITY.
  21. I'm going to try to put this back on track as it relates to the title of this discussion, TREVOR BAUER UPDATES. AGAIN WITH ALL THIS BS ABOUT MAZARA. BAUER WINS GAMES, MAZARA TAKE UP SPACE ON THE ROSTER. JR will not sign BAUER. BAUER IS DONE WITH 1 YEAR CONTRACTS WHEN THE METS WITH NEW OWNERSHIP, THE YANKEES, THE DODGERS THE PHILLIES AND LETS NOT FORGET THE PADRES. THESE TEAMS SPEND LIKE DRUNKIN SAILORS AS THEY SAY. JERRY DOESN'T HAVE THE BALL TO COMPETE. NOW THE PRICE COULD COME DOWN IF WE DO NOT HAVE A NORMAL SEASON AND THE REVENUE IS NOT COMING IN BESIDES TV MONEY. WE have the money to sign 2 tier 2 pitchers ala JQ and Stroman. I don't know who else is available as a FA, please chime in with some names that i'm not aware of that may be better options I wouldn't mind going to war with a Rotation of Gio, Dallas, Stroman, Cease and whoever until Kopech is ready or Crochet is stretched out. Kopech probably needs to be stretched out with taking the year off. Don't know if his head will be on straight. His Ex Wife i think really messed up his head. Lopez goes to the bullpen for long relief until he gets his head out of his ass along or shown the door or send him down to Birmingham if he still has options.. Dunning and Burdi, BULLPEN with Dunning as an emergency starter. Burdi may also need some time in minors also. Not interested in trading and giving up any of our up and coming stars unless it's a stud # 1 or #2 starter or a big time stud right fielder. if JR had the balls he'd sign GEORGE SPRINGER to play right but that's a separate discussion, this is supposed to be about pitching . The Money is there to sign Bauer or 2 tier 2 pitchers, Stroman and whoever. Stroman, because of his age and our offense. Encarnacion, gone 13 Million Mazara gone 5,5 Million Gonzalez, gone 7 million Rodon gone 2.5 to 3.5 million I believe McCann gone 5.5 million Colome probably gone 10.5 million JR, won't get into a bidding war for him. I wouldn't mind him coming back but not a 20 mill for 2 years. 15 mill i can see, it Worth the gamble on spending on 2 SP's. Huer and Bummer might be able to get it done as closer. Go with Engel in right until the trade deadline. We can carry him. if you add it up with who's gone from the list above, we'd have a ton of money to spend IF it's a normal season with people in the park, concessions, parking etc. IF WE HAVE A NORMAL SEASON. If not all bets are off. DON'T TRUST A TRADE FOR A PITCHER. REMEMBER TATIS FOR PRICE EVERYONE???? Where would we be with an outfield of Robert, Jiminez and Tatis, SCARY!!!!! FREE AGENCY IS THE WAY TO GO UNLESS SOMEONE IS LOOKING TO DUMP A SALARY and we can steal him. Looking forward to your thoughts.
  22. we have the money to sign 2 tier 2 pitchers ala JQ and Stroman. Engel, Garcia, Collins and Mendick as the bench with Vaughn as DH. Encarnacion, gone Mazara gone Gonzalez, gone Rodon gone McCann gone Colome probably gone JR, won't get into a bidding war for him. I wouldn't him coming back but not a 20 mill for 2 years. 15 mill i can see, it Worth the gamble on spending on 2 SP's. Huer and Bummer might be able to get it done as closer. 23. i guess we should rename this the Bauer/Mazara blog. He's not coming back (hopefully). Let's drop Mazara and get on with PITCHING PLEASE!!!!!! JR, unless he's brain dead will not spend 6 million on him. This is money that needs to spent on Stroman, Bauer or whoever else is available. We have about a 2 year window to get this done. We are in much better shape than the Cubs, our guys are younger and under control with great contracts to ACQUIRE 1 OR 2 STARTERS TO GET OVER THE LINE. LET'S SIGN SOME PITCHING. SLOWLY STRETCH OUT CROCHET AND KOPECH AND MOVE ON. Remember if the the Cubs trade Rizzo and or Bryant they are in another rebuild and are looking to dump salaries. JQ may be available then.
  24. i thought this was a Bauer and mostly pitching. Now is it seems it's turned to Mazara dominating? Let's face it, if we got Bauer and another pitcher, Mickey Mouse could play right field if he could catch the ball and hit 250. Hope we can get back on topic, PITCHING IS OUR NEED AS I POINTED OUT.
  25. Engel in Right until someone is available at the trade deadline if we have a normal season. Bauer would be great but unrealistic. Don't think Hahn williams can convince JR to spend the kind of money on a pitcher. It's not his MO. If Bauer continues on his path of only signing 1 year deals it's going toke 25 million minimum. If Bauer goes for a multi year deal, 125 to 150 million. Sox will never spend it on pitcher these days. Stroman is an alternative stop gap and make a decent 4 or 5. Kopech and Cease need to develop or the next pitching coach can get Lopez's head out of his ass. Which i doubt can happen. Crochet is a year away to developing into a starting pitcher. He'll probably end up the route that Sale took, that worked out pretty well if we all remember. The guy we really could use is Jose Q. back, Innings eater but we didn't hit for him. Now we have offense to support any decent pitcher.
