Grifol has me excited. I really think the White Sox got their version of Mikel Arteta. Someone who is a perfectionist and will demand excellence and really create his own team culture. For anyone who is a soccer fan, they are probably familiar with Arteta's demanding style. From what I gather, Grifol has this as well. Like Arteta, Grifol isn't afraid to get rid of once thought of untouchable players if they aren't getting with the program. We'll see but I think this hire is reason enough to be excited for this season.

Pedro Griffol will be our Mikel Arteta. Only the results will happen sooner becaue there is a big talent gulf between this Sox team and the Arsenal squads Arteta inherited.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
Colome's Hat replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have my own trauma that I'm dealing with in regards to this subject. But the fact remains is that due to labor rules established within the MLBPA, they can't do anything until the investigation is concluded and if they tried, it would be a nightmare. -
Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence

I have thought about this some more. As much as I want him gone, releasing him in the middle of an investigation when no ruling has been made would be a labor nightmare. He should be put on administrative leave until this is sorted. -
This is a good move and quite frankly, this is how resources should be used to complete the bullpen.

Buehrle is definitely staying on the ballot. I wonder if the clearing of names gets him to near the 20% mark.

My friend Katie is actually quoted in The Athletic article. In the coming days, I'd love for us to compile a list of links to charities that the Hendriks are active in. On a side note, this whole news about Liam has just fucked me up. I'm sure I'll get excited about the baseball season again but it's just left this cloud over everything.

2nd Base I guess it’s going to be Sosa or Gonzalez?
Colome's Hat replied to AJ'S Cousin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is probably not a popular answer but I would take either Andrus or Harrison at 2nd base. To be honest, with the shift going away, defense is at a premium at that position. I can tolerate a .250 offense from Harrison if he fields the position like he's capable of. -
I'm wondering now if this played a part in why he was less durable last year than in previous years.
-
It is. But to be honest, you can catch lightening in a bottle with a closer for a year. Liam's leadership will be missed the most but maybe they rally for him? I am just concerned with what this will do to him in terms of his health.
-
This is gutting. I have no doubt he will survive but he's widely regarded as the best person in the game. My friend works with Howard Brown, an LGBTQ health center in Chicago and the amount of work he has done for them is immense. Also remembering how vocal he was after the Supreme Court ruling. I'm so proud he's a White Sock. Hope this is a blip and he's back either later this year or next. Just hope he is ok.

Liam Hendriks coming up in trade discussions
Colome's Hat replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also, is it possible that Gravesman is the one sent to the Mets? Now that TLR is gone, this especially seems likely. I think the fact that they had Liam talk with Pedro right after he was hired indicates that he is going to be here next year. -

I think this is more likely than Hendriks being dealt. They already have Robertson who was a successful closer. -
I love vague as hell this is. This is so vague he can't be wrong.
-
I think they have resigned themselves to going over the luxury tax.
-
To be honest, given the high money contract some of these relievers are signing, they may be able to move Gravesman. Which would be a plus and free up some money.

He'll likely be getting $5 million from another team. -

He is going to get close to $10 million anyways considering the buyout is $5 million. -

Dumb. -
I think his second half fatigue has a lot to do with him playing out of position.

To be honest, they need changes but I don't think they need to make whole sale changes. It's somewhere in the middle. A retool that is a notch below the 2005 one. I really do think this new coaching staff can do a lot to help guys like Moncada, Vaughn, and even Grandal. Get a starting pitcher, a left handed corner outfielder (Conforto would be excellent), and new 2nd Baseman.
