  1. That exact pitch was just strike 3 to Engel.
  2. I think of it more as "Eloy preservation" than a defensive upgrade.
  3. So is Goodwin in for Vaughn or is Goodwin in for Eloy with Vaughn moving to LF? I don't think they ever explained. NVM, they just did.
  4. So they'll be better at it when they play at Colorado?
  5. There are balls that Eloy will get to that Vaughn won't just because of speed, but Vaughn's skill is on par.
  6. Nobody swings before 2 strikes. Step out of the box after every pitch. Burn all the mound visits.
  7. I'm trying to think of the last thing I watched on ABC and it might have been a college football game.
  8. Do we really need a 10 minute symposium on how Wrigley Field got lights?
  9. Just line him up in the rotation so he pitches at home and he'll be fine.
  10. Haven't you heard that the vaccine is unsafe for <whatever condition you have/had>???
  11. Yes, ESPN has the NFL HOF ceremony tonight to baseball has moved to ABC.
  12. Lamb and Sheets to have a rap battle in the clubhouse after tonight's game to see who gets to stay.
  13. US wins the medal count mostly on the backs of the women. Basketball - Gold Soccer - Bronze Volleyball - Gold Water Polo - Gold Softball - Silver
  14. Don't ride him so hard that he can't win in the postseason, but yeah, some team that is desperate for starting pitching is going to offer him more years and/or dollars than would make sense for the Sox, barring an injury to one of the other starters. I would love him back, though. Having six starters and being able to skip one each time through the rotation would be an amazing luxury.
  15. Supposedly had a huge offer out for Machado as well, but sometimes I wonder if those offers get made knowing that they're unlikely to be accepted.
  16. Aside from health, I think the biggest factor will be getting TA going. We need that spark at the top of the lineup. Going to be hard to beat good teams if he doesn't figure it out.
  17. A very key line from this article: If you want the highest probability to win a World Series, reaching the postseason for multiple years is more important than assembling the best team in any one year. The importance of 5th starters, backup catchers, and 7th relievers diminish in the postseason. The plucky, 90-win team with no chance to win more games than the $260 million Dodgers during the regular season is no worse than a 2-1 underdog in a playoff series if they can get in. A team that is a 2-1 favorite in every round of the postseason is still just under 30% to win the World Series. The Sox traded a good prospect for Lance Lynn, not just based on his Cy Young potential but because of his reliability. Keuchel, while on the downside of his career will still be a good value if he remains reliable.
  18. Would 4/80 do it? Almost certainly. Would the Sox be willing to go there? Almost certainly not.
  19. Cleveland lost 2-1 to Detroit. For the first time this season, the Sox end the day with a double digit lead.
  20. 100% yes. Look at Cleveland this year. Lance Lynn may not pitch at a Cy Young level the next two years, but he's a good bet to pitch all or nearly all of the next two years. Giolito has a pretty good track record of reliability. Keuchel is even valuable in the sense that he's at least going to be better than the guy you have to call up from AAA to replace your injured starter. For the record I think Rodon has turned a corner and will be a 180+ innings guy going forward, but I'd still have a hard time betting a huge contract on that.
  21. Yes, mainly since Rodon won't sign a bargain deal so there's really only one option left.
  22. That makes Cleveland's goose egg on the scoreboard even more pathetic.
  23. Cleveland losing 2-0 to Detroit in the 8th. Could this be the night the 10 game barrier finally gets broken?
  24. The problem with bullpen usage is that there have been too many high leverage innings and not enough low leverage innings. The offense almost never builds big leads and allows Ruiz, Lopez, Tepera to get work in those situations and save Kopech, Kimbrel, Hendriks for the tight games.
