  1. Did the Sox get any money from the Cubs in this deal?
  2. Any word yet on if Eloy is OK and when Robert is coming back?
  3. It's more that Madrigal is controllable for 5 more years compared to 1 for Hernandez. That said, I'd love to see the Sox sign Escobar or Semien in the offseason and make Hernandez the new (but much better) Leury Garcia and also a potential platoon partner for Engel in RF.
  4. While Kimbrel is a huge upgrade over Heuer, it still doesn't solve the problem of Ruiz and ReyLo both still being in the bullpen. Would like to see if Fry from BAL is still gettable.
  5. You weren't wrong about the asking price being steep.
  6. WTF??? No, no, no, no, no. This only ends up being good if Madrigal spends most of the next 5 years injured.
  7. Crochet is a guy who might turn into a TOR starter and make this deal a huge win for the Cubs. Crochet is a guy who might turn into a 3-4-5 starter and make this a fair deal. Crochet is a guy who might stay the back end bullpen guy he is now and make this deal a huge win for the Sox.
  8. ReyLo is going to have to stay if the Sox are going to start limiting starters' innings.
  9. And we all thought the Sox wouldn't be bringing in any talent on deadline day.
  10. Sox aren't getting Kimbrel. This is that move they discuss with the Cubs but never make a serious offer so they can tell us how much they tried to do more.
  11. No Notre Dame guys. They choke in the postseason. For reference see 2005 World Series Game 1, 9th inning
  12. Translation: The Sox will make several lowball offers today in the hopes that one of them gets accepted, in reality expecting that none of them will but it provides cover to say that we tried but the prices were too high.
  13. So one of Ruiz, Burr or Heuer will be gone today to make room for Tepera. I have to think there will be one more reliever acquired which pushes a second one out from that group. Then also remember you get to move one starter to the bullpen for the postseason, so you have a pretty low chance of needing any of that group for any moderate to high leverage situations.
  14. That's why the Sox aren't going to be a good trading partner for the Cubs' big names. Cubs would rather eat the salary and get better prospects back, while the Sox would rather take on the contract and not have to give up the better prospects.
  15. We do, but a reliever isn't going to be classified as a "better player" than what others have acquired.
  16. Adam Engel has elite defense, showing good power, and hitting both LH and RH pitching. I'd rather add a catcher and let Grandal be more of a 1B/DH when he comes back. Abreu could use some more days off to figure out how to hit again.
  17. Eddy Alvarez just hit his 2nd double of the game to drive in a run and give the US a 5-1 lead over Israel in the 7th. Alvarez just scored on a double to make it 6-1.
  18. Where else are you going to upgrade though? Unless you think Eloy, Robert or Grandal isn't coming back 100%, there really isn't anywhere to put someone else.
  19. Berrios. Move to 6 man rotation to keep the arms fresh for the playoffs and then you can trade him, Keuchel or Cease after the season.
  20. I know at least a few of Mexico's best players are at the Olympics.
  21. If they already know they're calling him up they may have gotten him on a plane today rather than wait until after the games.
  22. I guess I figured ReyLo would stay because of his ability to eat innings and the starters likely on shorter leashes for a while.
  23. Speaking of Qatar, that's who the US just beat in the semifinals. Not entirely sure how Qatar ended up in the Gold Cup, but the US will almost certainly face Mexico, which should surprise nobody.
