  1. If Trump is removed under the 25th amendment, he would be the acting President. Bush Sr and Cheney were both acting Presidents under the 25th Amendment (granted, the voluntary section and not the removal section) and they weren't counted as Presidents, so I don't think Pence would be considered the 46th President unless there is impeachment and removal, or resignation.
  2. I know the new Congressional term already started, but as of today, there are 51 Republicans and 48 Democrats in the Senate, so Schumer can't take power until the new guys get seated.
  3. He's not majority leader until the 20th, and that's assuming that the seating of the 2 Georgia Senators isn't blocked by legal action.
  4. It would take 19 Republican Senators to agree to this.
  5. If they give up the filibuster they allow PR and DC to become states which makes it much harder to ever gain power again, and they know that. They will find the balance of not filibustering enough other things that the Dems don't change the rules over their filibuster on statehood and the SC expansion.
  6. Being able to filibuster some things gives them more power than not being able to filibuster anything.
  7. I don't think the Republicans will be so obstructionist that it will force the Democrats to nix the filibuster. He's morally bankrupt, but he's really smart and he knows exactly where the line is and will run right up to it. Also, I don't favor statehood for DC. Maybe the first thing the new Democratic majority should do is change the law that allows for these stupid objections to the counting of electoral votes.
  8. Republicans would almost certainly filibuster an increase in the size of the Supreme Court.
  9. Two of the seats, PA and WI, are held by Republicans in states that Biden just won. All the rest of the seats are held by the same party that won the state in 2020.
  10. The Republican Party is essentially the QAnon party right now. It all depends on what direction QAnon goes. If they triple down on MAGA, so does the base. If QAnon suddenly decides that Trump was part of the liberal child sex cult all along, then they'll anoint someone else. The smartest direction for the party to go is Nikki Haley, so we know that's where they won't go.
  11. I've seen a couple people make the point that this drawn out refusal to accept the election results is providing momentum for getting rid of the electoral college, which would of course be disastrous for Republicans.
  12. I don't want a lineup full of them, but having one or two when you have as much power throughout the rest of the lineup as the Sox have is pretty valuable.
  13. Unfortunately Alabama isn't stupid enough to hire him. There's only one program that's both stupid enough to hire Gase and unlikeable enough to wish they would, but I'd just as soon they let Jim Harbaugh fail for a few more years.
  14. Jackson's was an easy catch. The other two were catchable but not easy catches.
  15. You never get to see the whole field on TV so I'm not sure how much of the lack of downfield passing is Trubisky can't hit open guys and how much of it is nobody can get open.
  16. Abreu, Anderson, Giolito, Moncada, Jimenez
  17. Unfortunately, that f**k has probably convinced himself that he really won, so he can claim he doesn't know he's pushing something false, ficticious or fraudulent.
  18. Weird quirk: 14 years ago, the Bears and Colts became the first two teams with black head coaches to reach the Super Bowl. This year, the Bears and Colts became the first two teams to be #7 playoff seeds.
  19. All things being equal, I'd rather have Trubisky than Wentz, but if Trubisky won't take a 2 year deal and Wentz would, then yes, try to make him work while you try to build a better offensive line.
  20. Would that be admissible in court?
  21. 5-star recruits over the past 10 recruiting classes: Alabama 44 Georgia 34 Ohio State 26 Clemson 20 Southern Cal 19 Florida State 19 LSU 19 Texas A&M 14 === Notre Dame 5 So yeah, recruiting is a lot of it for those 3 teams, but Georgia, Florida St and LSU have each managed only 1 playoff appearance since the current format started, and Southern Cal and Texas A&M have managed none. If making the playoff was the #1 priority of recruits, none of the 5-stars would go to any SEC school other than Alabama. Notre Dame clearly isn't in the same league in talent, but they occasionally make the playoff mostly because they manage to avoid losing to shit teams, which has plagued pretty much the entire Big 12 and PAC-12, and in most years Ohio State, and as much as we want to see the 4 most talented teams battle it out, regular season performance needs to count for something or otherwise just take the Top 4 in the preseason poll.
  22. We might get an 8-8 NFC Wild Card and an 11-5 AFC team missing the playoffs. Time to eliminate the conferences. Just have 8 divisions. Seed the division winners 1-8 and the Wild Cards 9-14. Also, make point differential the first tiebreaker.
  23. We're seeing the #4 team regularly getting destroyed in the playoff, not a compelling case to allow teams 5-8 in. What I'd like to see the AAC and MWC do is schedule 11 games instead of 12, play their championship games a week early, and have a full conference crossover for the 12th game, with the conference champions matching up against each other. Would boost the schedule strength of the winner of that game.
