QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) RIOS MUST PLAY. Ozzie's final season is a stubborn one. He's flipping off everybody a final few times showing who is the boss as he gears for Florida. Rios batting fourth is a flipoff to the fans. I'm surprised Dunn isn't playing. It's like Ozzie is saying, 'You try to win with these bums like I've been trying to.'

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Unless Danks and Floyd get dealt, I'm not too sure about that happening anymore. I pray Mark goes to the NL to a team that doesn't face us. That is a sad day when he pitches in the Cell for another team. It's amazing we will be willing to pay Adam Dunn and Rios and not Buehrle. Truly amazing. How anybody can buy season tickets to an organization that would do this is beyond me. Do what Milkman does ... only go to games if you can score free tickets. Let's see the Sox explain that one to their fans. Paying Dunn n Rios and letting Mark walk. Wow.

Which of the underperfomers will figure it out in 2012?

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Beckham is most likely. I say this because I believe that if he had come up with another team he would be a star now. The Sox don't know how to develop position players well. He might figure it out next year on his own. He's a smart kid and a real competitor. Rios next because he clearly has the talent. Does he have the head ? I don't know. Dunn will never play anywhere near the way he did before in the NL. He's not suddenly going to become a student of the game, a workout warrior or an intense competitor. Ain't gonna happen. He's getting old. He never was a good ballplayer. Never had any ability to help his team win games except the dinger. He never cared too much. He was just a huge oaf that could hit it far when he occassionally connected. I wouldn't even call him a baseball player. He's gotten where he has on natural ability alone. Now, as he moves into his mid-thirties and is already rich he isn't going to suddenly start busting ass and learning how to play baseball. Great points on Dunn. He's already ruined one season's lineup pretty much double-handedly with Rios. He could easily ruin another. Just retire, Adam. Show some respect for the game. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) The thing is we got Stewart and Fraisor plus we dumped Teahen, all for a guy who wasn't going to be back next year. That is all kinds of win. Frasor looks like just another guy in any team's bullpen. His pitches scream "hit me" at times.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) I think Hawk is threatened by Stone because he is such a good broadcaster. Most of Hawk's color men have been submissive to him...Stone is respectful of Hawk, but not submissive...so there is often quite a bit of tension. Tension? You guys are watching different games than I watch. I think Stoney and Hawk are great together. I think I heard one night Hawk sounded like he was in a bad mood and jumped Stoney for something. If Hawk worked with Wimpy every night I'm sure there would be nights people thought there was tension between those 2.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) It's amazing how certain people always have an excuse for something stupid Ozzie says. He can call fans stupid, demean players on his team, and call reporters homophobic slurs but there's always some lame excuse that people come up with. Not making excuses. I think it was funny. Also in the article I read the reporter said Ozzie liked him and came up with the name "Tank." Reporters like Ozzie. The one reporter he called a name is not too good and wouldn't even show up for games. Beckham also used the 'g' word and nobody's running him out of town. They apologized. We'll be getting a boring manager before next season so many will be happy. Oz won't steal headlines in Florida either cause there's not the passion like here.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) well just think of it this way greg, if they WERE in it, he would yet again be injured in a crucial down the stretch run. Just like in 08. do you remember that greg? when he broke his wrist doing whatever he was doing? what about that? and the year after that? and after that? and this season? how about the .250 average? his power and rbi numbers are good, but you simply cannot rely on carlos quentin. and this is why you explore getting value for him before his arbitration figures get ridiculous I saw the play on which he got hurt and there's not much he could have done to prevent that. I haven't even read about his injury anyway? What is it? If we were in the race would he even have been DL'ed? Just asking. I think he's a good hitter on a team with hardly any good hitters. Tank, DeAza and Rios is way worse than Tank, DeAza and CQ wouldn't you say??

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 05:15 AM) Man seriously... It's time to send Adam Dunn home for the rest of the year. That was a bad call, but still. The Sox are doing more damage to him by continuing to keep him on the roster. DL his ass now. If his agent and MLB will let us DH him, by all means do so. Otherwise just bench him the rest of the year and pay him his money. It can't be that embarrassing for him. If anybody mocks him, he can just show them his bank statement.
-
It's a shame we can't make the playoffs. Sox fans can dream about dominating performances like that by Danks and our staff. Too bad our everyday players are not so good.
-
Please retire, Adam.
-
DeAza is for real, stats be damned. He passes any logical person's eye test. He is a stud. HR, 3-0.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:52 AM) No. He's fine. He's not even at 90 pitches yet and he's been dominant. Good call, Jordan. 3 outs; no runs.
-
Anybody clamoring for Oz to remove Danks in a 2-0 game in the seventh inning now that Olivo found the line for a 2B?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:33 AM) And believing that Juan Pierre has had a very good year is part of the problem. This offense has been awful. Juan pierre has been adequate at best on offense. He's not why the offense has been awful. But he has no ability to cover for anyone else struggling. If Juan Pierre was having a truly great year, this would be a much better offense. (ditto for his defense) Hell, even a "classic stats" person would say he's been awful and utterly useless on the basepaths. He has 22 stolen bases and has been caught 13 times. Yes that sucks. He's scored 64 runs which is fairly s***ty but it's not like anybody on our team besides PK can knock anybody in. Next year with an outfield of Viciedo, DeAza and CQ, those aren't exactly blazers on the basepaths. We won't be stealing any bases next year, either, since Lexi and Becks don't steal bases. Becks is at .234 with five stolen bases and .293 OBP. I read those stats and those stats suck. Juan's stats at least do not suck.
-
How can Dunn not retire? Is this fun for him? This failure? He's got to be set for life for money.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:16 AM) And no one could figure out how an offense could be this bad with that leadof talent at the top. I'm still amazed at national radio n national play by play guys. They still use batting average, homers and RBIs as THE ONLY stats. I was listening to a show and they were going over the Yankees' batting averages. I always think of this board and how nobody cares about batting average. Pierre to most of the baseball world is having a very good year. His final year as a White Sox ... I tip my cap to him.
-
Pierre BTW is hitting .287. If this was 10 years ago, without sabesmania, he'd be considered a freaking stud at .287.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:05 AM) Against an arm like Pineda, some guessing is required True, but do you agree with me that Lilly's total appoach at the plate is that of a power hitter? I'm all for making the elf our DH next year. I think he'd hit 30 home runs. I do.
-
Lilly's a cool elf. You see that first pitch hack? He was guessing and missed it a mile, but his home run approach at the plate is entertaining for a little guy.
-
Holy s***. Adam hit the ball and put it in play. Wow. Another out, though.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) One of my concerns with Dunn is how opposing teams - namely pitchers - view him. Who is going to be afraid of Adam Dunn now? Pitchers will come right after him and try to strike him out, which will decrease his walk rate. No one will be afraid of challenge him and I'm not that sure the guy will make them pay for challenging him. Remember how we were all salivating about the "big lefty bat" in the middle of the line up? I would kill to see Dunn traded back to the NL. I know that probably won't happen and I'll still root for him as long as he is in a White Sox uniform, but still... It's surprising that some pitchers still walk him occasionally. He hasn't hit a home run in a long time and I think it'd be fun to try to whiff him 3-4 times.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) could of happened to anybody, always happens to quentin. Hasn't he been healthy for the entire season until now? Like Rongey would say, he's been the least of our concerns. Who cares if he's DLed now? We've been out of the race for some time now. Our outfield next year will be Viciedo, DeAza and Rios. That's a lot worse outfield production wise than Viciedo/DeAza, CQ.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Oh no, his annual dl trip is awesome, we should totally pay him the big bucks because of that Didn't he get hurt diving for the ball? Coulda happened to anybody. This all doesn't matter anyway. We're going nowhere until the contracts of Peavy, Dunn and Rios mercifully expire. Too much money tied up in nonperformers. Too many holes on this team.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) I still refuse to believe Dunn forgot how to hit after 10 years at the age of 31. I think he'll drop 20lbs and put up 40/100 next year I don't think he'll want to lose 20 pounds. It'll take working out all winter to pull that off. I'd say hopefully Beckham cause those other 2 are done. Rios doesn't care it appears; Dunn is just done. -
You gotta figure Jeff Francis or Chen will start for the Sox next year. We're due to land a Royal or two.
