  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) Well, at least we have that guy. That was beautiful! It does amaze me how good Paulie is, especially compared to our other hitters. Throw Paulie a high fastball and he makes you pay. So many other guys we have, well we know what they do. Congrats Paulie .. again! You are earning every penny of that contract.
  2. I wonder why the Sox can't hit in the Cell any more. Even against total hacks like Chen and Hochevar.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Thing is, Beckham is better against righties than lefties. Ozzie I'm sure has no idea of this. I'm sure Ozzie's sick of watching Beckham make outs like the rest of Soxdom. Problem is we have so many lousy hitters.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) Well Rios, Dunn, and Beckham are all out, that ought to make everyone happy, right? Don't like Omar batting second. Yuk.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) Freaked out? I was drunk and making a joke about some of the comments. Its just clear you no longer are objective on the subject. Hard to take your posts seriously at that point. I thought u were all mad and freaking out.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Yup. KC's hitting coach. That's a team where they're killing the ball and all their guys are developing like crazy. You don't like Seitzer? Wow. Hitting has not been KC's problem.
  7. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) I wonder if he's going to report to spring training about 40 lbs lighter? If he shows up fat again and he goes 0 for April and May, everyone will know that he doesn't care. Great point. If he's the same Dunn I don't see how he can't be urged by his loved ones to retire. Is he married with kids? Can he take the abuse/national ridicule one more year?
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Fathom, The fact that people consider De Aza a better option against lhp when Rios has been doing well this season and arguing that Ozzie shouldnt have started him last night. Im critical of Ozzie when he makes (imo) a bad decision, but this is just grass is always greener stuff. Id love to see any stats where De Aza is better than Rios against lefties. Milkman, That was more drunk posting than hyperbole but even drunk I can read stats. I don't know why you freaked out Badger. I am of the opinion Rios should not be playing AT ALL for reasons that are obvious. And what's so laughable about me pointing out in my post I'm scared to death of the poster who suggested Rios be our leadoff hitter next year. Yes I would rather have DeAza playing against a lefty rather than Rios. Rios burned his bridge in Chicago a long time ago. He had one good week vs. Balt and Minnie. Good for him. When DeAza came up it should have been to be the starter. Hopefully next year the new manager will not play Rios.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) He's right though, you have to look at Beckham and Alexei as well. I like Gordon, I think he's a good guy and I love his defense and his hustle, but his plate appearances are almost uncomfortable to watch. Alexei hit .220 in July and is hitting .205 in August. Just brutal. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) I think it's downright criminal the pass guys like Beckham and Morel have gotten around here. Who cares that they don't make any money. They play every day and have been atrocities offensively. Let's face it. It's late enough to say it's just not our year. Ozzie I'd say is 80-20 gone after this season and KW is 100 percent gone with Hahn taking over. So hopefully next year these guys who had bad seasons (Lexi, Beckham, Rios, Dunn, Morel) will get their acts together. Hopefully the new GM won't re-up Juan and Omar and we can move on. A new hitting coach should be a breath of fresh air (steal Seitzer from KC please) and hopefully the new manager believes more in fundamentals like making sure the bunters can bunt. Nobody on the team has had a career year hitting except Paulie maybe. It's not our year. Hopefully this year helps Morel's bat in the future cause Morel CAN FIELD. He's amazing there. If Beckham hits .250 again next year, and Lexi keeps sucking, yes we have a problem cause Rios/Dunn are hopeless.
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) Ozzie shouldn't have to tell his pitchers to retaliate. The pitchers should have enough f***ing balls to protect their team mates without having to be told. I was thinking that last night. I was thinking Thornton needs to plunk one of those young Royals on his own. Stick a fastball in the ribs. I'm resigned to the fact we're NOT getting over .500 this year. Just isn't going to happen. Bad season all around. Manager, players, GM, owner, marketing department. Rotten season. One thing I like about Peavy. He seems to be a competitor. I'd think a Royal is going down tonight.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Something that's ridiculous is that De Aza looks like he could be a very good #2 hitter. He hits a ton of grounders between first and second, which is exactly what you want. I guess Ozzie has too much respect to bat Vizquel down in the lineup. I'd love for DeAza to be second. It's not our year... sucks.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) So Dunn's just flat out benched? With the nasty sinker ballers we're facing next week, I'd rather pray he starts seeing the ball a little better. Anyone that thinks we can still make the postseason with this type of lineup is wrong, IMO. Dunn HAS to be benched, but this lineup proves it's just not our year. Oz doesn't get it. Omar cannot play. This lineup tonight sucks. It'll take some long balls from the usual suspects to win. Three or more long balls. We're gonna lose another series to KC. Amazing. At least DeAza is in for inept Rios.
  13. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:55 AM) On the bright side, Rios's two bases-loaded popups were to the opposite field. Maybe he is improving in his ability to go the opposite field. Or am I grasping at straws here? You are grasping. Rios had one good week and some were already talking of him hitting leadoff for the Sox next year. He's no good and Sox apparently are stuck with him. He should be a fourth outfielder, but Oz won't play DeAza.
  14. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Something interesting is that while the riots were taking place- much of the media included quotes from this politician or that police officer pointing a finger at "feral, lawless youth". I read an article yesterday detailing the initial court appearances by many of the rioters who were caught, and it mentioned that on the contrary, a good portion of those who had charges brought against them were typical people. Teachers, post-officers, lifeguards, an 11 year old child were the examples given. Oldest they mentioned was a 53 year old with an otherwise pristine record. Hmmm.... Uh oh. People are getting rather frustrated. Do you think the world will ever return to prosperity for more than the few wizards who hit the jackpot with startup companies that skyrocket and the people who inherit wealth from their parents?
  15. Our offense stunk tonight even with Dunn on the bench. That's pretty crazy. Too bad Lilly didn't light into a couple pitches with that uppercut of his.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:04 AM) And most younger players are grossly underpaid, whats your point? Somebody said Pierre was overpaid and I was defending him. Most veterans on teams are grossly overpaid.
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:27 AM) I really think the mindset of this team is that they are better than their opponent and do not realize that really is not the case. KW needs to find at least two players like Jeff Baker and Reed Johnson for the bench next year. I'll buy that argument ... especially at home. Lousy teams like KC just have that swagger against the Sox, realizing they'll be the pesky gnats who win more often than not with way less talent.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) Huh? Most veterans are grossly overpaid.
  19. It's funny to watch KC play Tampa and get boatraced 4 straight games, then see them come to Chicago and score in the first inning and blow us away again. It's like KC smirks when they play us knowing their hustle will beat us eight of every 10 tries. They hustle. We, uh, sleepwalk offensively. AJ gets a hit, so Chen plunks him the next at bat. KC bullies the White sox again. Way to not hit Bruce Chen (again), who everybody in KC wants to run out of town.
  20. QUOTE (Unknown @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:07 AM) Chen had good stuff tonight. Tip your cap. Hope you are joking. U probably are.
  21. Three hits against that pitching staff. Wow.
  22. The White Sox are allergic to the air in the Cell for some reason.
  23. I'm watching the game with some Royals fans who are laughing their ass off that Bruce Chen is involved in a shutout.
  24. Holland is in so it's a 5-0 final.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 03:54 AM) Please put Thornton through waivers tomorrow. Maybe nobody will make a claim and we can dump that contract. Doubtful, though. And the worst news might still be coming in if AJ's out for an extended period of time. We've been so lucky with our health as a team this year, compared to the Indians and Twins especially. I do love AJ, but who cares? Let Flowers catch. And bring up whoever is next in line on the depth chart. And I mean AJ no harm. He's had a great year, but with our team and home record it don't matter.
