QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) I'm not as upset as I thought I'd be. No question this season to this point has been a colossal failure, considering the resources that were pumped into this product and the lack of anything even remotely resembling a powerhouse team in this division. But there is some finality that, if you look at it how I'm looking at it, could be a good thing for this organization in the long run. Let's face facts: 2005 was a fluke. Were the White Sox the unquestioned best team that season? Yes! But that was not the beginning or the genesis of this new-age era of White Sox baseball, a time in which we were going to go on this sustained run of excellence over a 5-6 year period. We had a ton go right that year. Yes, I know you (not you, speaking general terms) could make the counter claim that any team that wins the World Series benefits froma super-sized amount of good fortune. And that would be true. But we, IMO, had an abnormal amount of good fortune/luck that year. Even 2008 could be classified as a fluke to some degree. Again, let's face facts: those last two games of the regular season against the Indians and Tigers were 'gimme' games. Neither team gave a s*** whether they won or lost. They just had to show up and pretend they cared. We beat Bryan Bullington and Armando Gallaraga. And in an act of mercy from a baseball god somewhere high in the sky, we won a coin flip a few weeks earlier in which we got a home game against the team that's owned us the way Michael owned the Cavs. That essentially saved the season. Because we all know what happens if we have to go to the Dome for #163. With this year's failure, there's no longer any justification for continuing with the status quo. Whether KW or Jerry like it or not, they're going to HAVE to change how they run this thing. And that's a big positive for me. I'm not going to get into who should be fired, sent to the minors, traded, designated for assignment, etc. But change is imminent. And I'm looking forward to it. Change may be imminent, but seriously, we are not playing with the house's money any more like we were after 2005. This team could be in for a long long rebuilding road. This season may be our best season in a long time. I don't think any White Sox fans are ready for that pain. Let's say we have 4-6 straight seasons of sub .500 baseball. Ugh. I'm just saying the change you want may result in a way worse pitching staff. Coupled with our rich underachieving offense that may result in us being the worst team in baseball for a long time.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 08:03 AM) Yes, agreed, someone needs to contact them and fix that article now. I've been on here for 4 years and have never seen any comment even CLOSE to this tolerated. The worst people do is when they really get mad they cuss out Ozzie in a thread but it's never come close to being racial. Not the rants against Ozzie. People have screamed for him to leave town but nobody has threatened to even punch Ozzie on here. Now the ESPN readers think soxtalk is full of racist crap which is untrue. And if there was a death threat on here, I'm sure the mods would notify the police which they'd have a right to do. Just doesn't happen.
-
I would pitch Omar. It's probably his final season as a player. He should pitch one game.
-
We have a problem here, Ozzie Jr. Nobody ever goes racial on here. It doesn't happen. People despise Ozzie (me and a couple others love him and want a lifetime contract for him) on here, but nobody says anything like you were quoted as saying. The site mods should try their best to contact that writer or Ozzie Jr. There never was any post about go away you Mexican. That is bulls***. There have been no racist threads on here since I've been here. If there were I'd leave forever.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 06:08 AM) And he's still a human being. Exactly. And I love the one guy criticizing Mrs. Teahen for posting. He should be honored she'd post here and try to clear up a misconception. People are so weird sometimes. It's a compliment to this site she came on here giving her take and that one guy rips her for it.

Sox vs. Yanks, 08/03, 7:10 PM, ESPN, CSN
greg775 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2011 Season in Review
If they don't just release Rios and Dunn, they get what they deserve in terms of attendance next season. Time to just bite the bullet on those 2 guys. I guess you could keep Dunn in April next year and bat him eighth and see if he can hit .200. If not, release him. The alternative is NO FANS. Both players are that bad. How could any Sox fan that's not part of a corporation buy season tickets for next year? These games have been awful at home this season. How could anybody want to see this s*** next season? -
At least Lasorda would be fun.

How bad is Alex Rios on the suck-o-meter?
greg775 replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's everything that is wrong with long-term contracts. Guys like Rios get one and this happens. Very very sad. You'd think he'd have pride but I guess laziness is simply instilled in some people. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 05:02 AM) At least we can all move on with the rest of our summer now. That is a bright spot. It is ova officially finally.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 04:42 AM) It's not even close. Kenny Williams is by FAR worse than Ozzie. Ozzie would be hired by many teams in baseball to manage. KW would never be offered another GM job. The results of this poll are the most ridiculous of any I have seen on here. Once again, Randy with the post of the thread. Those are indisputable facts. KW would never ever be offered another GM job; Oz will be a manager until he decides not to be a manager. No brainer indeed.

What Holding on To CQ & Thornton @ Deadline Means Now
greg775 replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder if the Sox are the new Baltimore. Are we going to suck for 15 plus years? I guess if they change the divisional formats like they are talking about, we could be doomed to no playoff baseball for a long long time to come. Right now at least we're in the worst division in baseball. -

greg775 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I watched one half inning. All I could take. Man this team is unwatchable. This losing streak might be a long one. Tomorrow is a formality and then the three in Minnie are formalities. You just knew after the two bunts in the first we were doomed to defeat again. These are easy wins for them Yankees. -
I think making the playoffs would be great. There's nothing like postseason baseball.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Don't mind greg. He only understands literal interpretations of things. He's the same person that would think that Ozzie did a great job in a particular game even if he made several incredibly terrible decisions and we somehow won the game in spite of them. 'A win' = 'Ozzie did an excellent job managing' in greg's mind. I'm missing something here. Somebody blasted me for telling Mrs. Teahen she looked good instead of the way Oney described her. Then somebody said looks had nothing to do with it even though most of her post was about looks. She thanked me for the compliment in one of her ensuing posts. What am I missing here? Where did I become evil again? Kill this post if it takes the thread in a weird direction but what is goin on ?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Because appearance should have nothing to do with anything here. Read her post. Read how she signed the post. Uh, appearance has A LOT to do with her post! It has a lot to do with everything here. She's a good looking lady and who cares what Oney thinks? She did obviously if yu reread her post.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) This thread along with the other one that start the whole discussion crack me up. I love the way so many people feel the need to reassure the obviously confident and self secure wife of a major league baseball player that she really really really is a really pretty lady (props to greg for the inspiration). Awesome. On a related note, I will go one step further regarding the original tweet and what it meant. With all due respect to this thread starter, I am pretty confident it was about Oney. However, I think it was a very calculated action that was intended not so much to take a childish swipe at Oney but rather to deliberately provoke him. I think Teahen is such a class act that he was willing to risk his spotless MLB reputation for a brief moment to flush out Oney and the Guillen family. It would not surprise me at all that Teahen was trying to do a service for his former White Sox teammates by provoking Oney, and hopefully Ozzie, to do something stupid again and get themselves fired and out of Chicago. Look at how overwhelming the responses have been on this board against Oney. Even many Guillen apologists/supporters are lumping the two of them together and are calling for some type of reprimand or outright firing of Ozzie. I think Teahen is a smart guy and saw how disfunctional the clubhouse has been and believes the Guillen family circus is at the root of it all and possibly the far bigger cause for the team's mediocrity rather than KW's failures as a GM. Maybe it is a silly conspiracy theory of mine, but the tweet just does not fit Teahen's personality and reputation. What's wrong with being nice? She said she was bothered by Oney commenting on her looks. What's wrong with telling a nice lady that she is pretty. I spoke the truth. I've seen nothing to indicate in pix anything but the fact she is pretty. And I like the tall volleyball player look. A lot of people do. Oney is probably under 6 foot isn't he? If Oney can make a lady upset saying she is ugly, why can't we be nice and rally on the pretty side? Why does the anonymity of the Internet have to lead one into a cesspool of negativity all the time. What's wrong with being the anti-Oney here even if we are not public figures and speaking to a confident public figure?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) Fan revolt here maybe. Maybe we are getting tired of payying $70 plus dollars for a good seat at the ball park to watch poor performers making more for one game than a fan would ever dream of making in their entire year or life for that matter; Tired of paying four or more times the cost of a whole package of hot dogs and only get one tired dog; tired of paying $9 plus dollars for a luke warm beer; tired of paying $20 for parking at the game, etc etc and not seeing a winner. Fan revolt is just don't go. If the product gets bad enough, like KC and Cleveland (before this year) believe me it'll show up in attendance figures. Cleveland used to sell out every single game for years until the Tribe became horses*** and the fans knew the team was horses***. Then it stopped. KC fans know better than to buy season tickets as well. If the Sox get off to this same start next year, forget it. Nobody will go.

The owners are the ones who sign these guys. Let the buyer beware.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) The Rios stance is urban legend. You can hit with that or any number of other funky stances. Sure Sure, you wouldn't really teach a young player to hit like Rios does, but the problem with Rios isn't he lacks talent or has a bad stance, the problem with him is he is a pile of goo. Really? Big Frank didn't seem to like his stance and Beckham's approach sucks, too, IMO. Dunn? I despise what he does with the bat but I think his is more of just losing it at age 31.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Than why does he make dumb buffoon comments. At some point, perception becomes reality. Oh and how often do you want to hear him talk about how he doesn't know who "so & so" on the Jays is who shut us down. The guy doesn't do any homework as a manager. Compare Ozzie to the top managers in baseball, whether its Joe Madden, Mike Scioscia, Girardi, LaRussa and you'll find out most of those guys watch tons of film and know what is going on. Is it there job to know all of the inner workings of a players swing, no, but they should be familiar with the scouting reports and know the team. Ozzie isn't familiar with any of it. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) Since he could not air any dirty clubhouse laundry on Teahen and the fact that Teahen has a great reputation as a solid and charitable guy, Oney did the only thing an immature spoiled brat could do and insulted Teahen's wife. The insults were genious, too. Called her out for being generally unattractive for not fitting his description of an ideal woman. Basically her height, build and complexion were the subject of his replies. In other words, he acted like the 6th grade child that he is. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Big changes are hopefully forthcoming. A mass exodus must ensue...time for Ozzie and his frolicking jesters to be shuttled out of town along with Alex Rios. I am still torn on Kenny Williams. If he is willing to run a clever, sustainable franchise from within and quit it with this baseball collecting card mentality I'd possible like to see what he can do with a tighter budget and more emphasis on organizational development and low risk/high reward type talent. If he wants to keep ransacking our minor leagues to build an overpaid sub .500 team then he can hit the bricks too. 1.) All those managers you listed have their detractors too. It goes with the territory. 2.) Oney is a moron but that has nothing to do with Ozzie. Even Lauren said in her post that Mark liked playing for Ozzie. 3.) How can KW get a pass. My gosh: Adam Dunn, Rios and Peavy, Gio, Hudson, Richard, et. all. If you don't like Ozzie for what he's done lately, Kenny is on a death spiral with the roster.

Sox vs Damned Yankees 8-2 game thread

QUOTE (onedude @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:35 AM) this season is truly undefinable...there is no negative succession of words I can come up with to describe this team/management/players. I never thought baseball would be so unwatchable. There's just nothing to look forward to in watching this team play. -
Adam Dunn Makes New York Times Front Page
greg775 replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hope this winter there isn't this prevailing attitude that Dunn will be great next season. -
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:49 AM) The ironic part is that he has not only out produced Edwin, he has outproduced Rios, Dunn, Morel, and Beckham with the bat. Post of the century.

The legendary Bruce Chen stunk again tonight. Seriously, these pitchers who shut down the White Sox stink. Our offense is epically bad. All time bad. Chen goes 4 2/3 innings vs. Balt. LOL at our team.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:11 AM) So who is everyone else picking to be their teams to root for over the next 3 months? For me AL: Texas - I love watching this team. Power, speed, young arms. A lots more talent still to come NL - Atlanta - Again with the young arms. I'm tired of the Phillies and Giants. I would pick Milwaukee but has anybody seen the left side of their infield? Their pen? yeeessshhhh Hard to root hard for anybody else. I guess there'd be worse things than Cleveland winning it all.
