QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Ozzie was on WGN this morning saying that the Sox just need to "play through" their hitting woes. Encouraging. And nothing should get them back on track faster than a four game series with a team that pwns them in the Comedy Central. A team whose pitcher has gone on record saying that they enjoy pitching to the Sox because they "hack away" at everything. Ugh. No changes entering a 4-gamer vs. Minnesota. Barring total domination from our starters, this isn't setting up pretty. Our starters are damn good, but they aren't going to shut out many teams. This promises to be very very ugly. We needed to call up Viciedo and move Dunn to seventh or eighth in the order. Trouble a brewing.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Maybe because he adds value to the team with his defense whereas there is virtually no value from Pierre, a washed up veteran with no tools. This is where threads go to all hell. He asked me a question and I answered it, then there's a response completely off topic and boom! I do like Beckham's defense. Pierre hasn't done much stupid in left since April, has he? I know he has a rag arm. Like I said I'd rather we not have him, but we have tons of s***ty hitters right now, not just Juan.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Honestly, name one thing that is positive out of Pierre? And a legit positive, not some bulls*** that he's raised his OBP a tad while it's still sitting at a s***ty number. I think Hibbard has listed a lot of positives. He's done a great job of making an argument that Pierre isn't the devil. We get it. Juan is terrible. I want him batting ninth, but I also want Morel, Becks, Rios, Dunn and the Lexi of late batting ninth.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Have you read anyone else's posts here for the past couple months? Yes I have. There's a constant hammering of Pierre outside of game threads. Becks gets some criticism in game threads where he's called a complete bust. He gets nowhere near the heat of Juan outside of the game threads when he's having another 0-fer, in fact, Becks isn't criticized much at all for his inept hitting this season.

At this point, I'd rather see Soriano in our lineup. But isn't the knock on him, that like Rios, he is lazy? At least Dunn appears to try. I wish Dunn would go away, though. He's really a terrible hitter and killing our chances in the three hole.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) And when that virtually unproven replacement hits .240 for a month with a .260 obp and no ability to steal, then what? Is it more likely that a veteran of 11 years with nearly a .300 career average will improve, or that a player with no major league experience will struggle? I don't understand why people assume Viciedo will succeed or that there aren't tradeoffs when comparing Viciedo to even a struggling Pierre. Good stuff, Hibbard. Some people don't want to hear anything positive about Juan. Period.
-
Beckham seems like an automatic out as do several others. Aside from the few "Beckham is officially a bust" posts he gets very little criticism compared to Pierre. Pierre actually gets a hit once in a while. If Beckham and Lexi and Rios and Dunn don't start knocking in runs, it's going to be a long weekend this weekend in Chicago. That's also assuming Paulie and CQ aren't in little slumps.

Thanks but those were only to change the background with the choices in the apple desktop and screensaver menu. I can't figure out how to take your wallpaper and get it as the background cause it's not one of the choices.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 02:38 AM) Logic is on my side. Firing a guy not responsible for the woes of the team accomplishes nothing. Then by god at least bring up Dayan and sit Rios and bat Dunn eighth. Somebody challenge Beckham and Lexi to get their heads out of their ass and start fining guys for not moving runners.
-
Get ready. You ain't seen nothin yet if I know my White Sox circa 2011. They ain't built to beat their brethren in the Central. They are "too cool" to actually get down and dirty and try to outwork, outhustle, beat teams that they are better than "on paper."

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) The proof is in the pudding with this offense, it speaks for itself. Walker needs to go. He's right. The facts say bye bye.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 01:18 AM) I paid $82 for two tickets (sec 124 row 20) on stubhub and another $100 with parking, booze and dogs. Took my Dad out there as he's getting older and I know he won't be around forever. So the social aspect was nice, but watching your team get beat down by the Royals on another lackluster performance was painful to watch. It was awful to see them just go through the motions out there, there was no fire, no passion, nothing. If it's not obvious by now our offense needs an injection then I must be living in the twilight zone. This pigheaded act by the entire organization needs to go. I am literally sick to be a White Sox fan now, watching this BS day in and day out with no accountability or effort to make the obvious changes to make us better. All In my ass. 182 bucks for one run and boring slow pitching by Edwin. Literally not one offensive highlight. I really think Adam Dunn sucked the life out of this team. And Rios to loaf day in and day out and get paid that kind of money with no accountability set a bad tone as well. For Ozzie, Kenny or whomever to not make ANY changes in a season they deemed ALL IN is like you say, enough to make one sick.
-
None of that matters cause they step to the plate and look so uncomfortable and overanxious. Chasing pitches, etc. I wish our guys looked as comfy at the plate today as Hosmer and Francouer. I'd take Francouer for his salary over Dunn's albatross in a heartbeat.

Is there any way to dump Dunn and get Pujols?
greg775 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) Sure I'll play along. Yes, but you would have to wait about 5 months, eat most of Dunn's remaining $50 mill and then sign Pujols to a $250 mill and up deal. Any team that pays a guy over 30 that kind of money is insane. Oh wait, the White Sox showed similar insanity in giving Dunn all that money. Basically the Yankees or Bosox will be paying Pujols for the next 3 years in trying to win 3 world titles in a row. Whomever signs him for 5-6 years could be getting little out of him the final year or two. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) It is a very frustrating time - that's all I can say. We end up just going over the same old stuff -trade that guy and this guy-this guy sucks-fire everyone- trade everyone, etc, etc Scoring a lot of runs for several game sin a row will help get us happy again - that is as long as the pitching doersn't collapse and give up a lot of runs at the same time. Yes, but as fathom pointed out, we haven't scored more than 3 runs off a starter in about a month. I don't know if we'll ever score a lot of runs for several games in a row. I don't think it's in this lineup's makeup. -
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 11:08 PM) I was at the game today, made it a point to go to one while I am in the states. This was the most uninspiring and lackluster performance I've ever seen out of a baseball team, ever. These guys don't even care. And I know nothing will change in terms of making any changes, which is absolutely pathetic, and hardly "ALL IN". My sympathies, sir. You can PM me if you'd like, but I haven't been to the Cell in a while. I just wondered if you could go through the entire experience of a game at the Cell today. How much you spent? What you ate? Drank? I'd like to know how much it cost you to watch that s***. To see a game that bad, was it still an enjoyable experience to be at the game? Or was it horrible? If you got your tickets for free, put what the tickets should have cost into your summary. Thank u. -- I agree they play like they don't care. I think it's from seeing Dunn be so bad and Rios be so bad. It's kind of contagious. You'd think one of our pitchers would kick some ass and speak up. Oh wait, one of 'em tried. I applaud Jake for at least trying.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Are you advocating violence? Only from our bats against other teams balls. But we can't even hit Chen/Francis and Paulino. wow.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) I'm in complete agreement. It's been a chore watching/following the games this season. Even when we win it's barely satisfying. All the games are the same (except for the comeback wins last week). We pitch well; we don't hit. We find new ways to screw up with men on base and nobody out. We get max one run if they are loaded and nobody out. Frustrating team cept for the pitching. If you like good starting pitching and closing you like this team. And watching Paulie has been good as well.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) "Anyone who thinks this team can catch Cleveland is crazy" Have we caught Cleveland yet? I don't look at the standings. At some point that might change. I've been just watching our product day in and out. Haven't seen the need to look at the standings yet. Not til I'm convinced we have the team to win any division.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) At what point was the Twins series last year where it was clear that was the season? Mid-September, where we were swept? Or the month before? I was at the first game and when it was clear we were going to lose, people were leaving in the 8th already because we obviously weren't going to salvage the season. Because if they smoke us again here and there are no changes made during the ASB, I think it's safe to call the season. Funny thing is Kenny always asks Ozzie if Oz "likes what we have; do you need anything?" Oz usually says he likes what we have. Ken ought to ask him tonight on the cell phone if he likes what we have going into the Minnie series. If Ozzie says yes, that is beyond belief. Hit him now when he's weak and get Dayan up here for Minnie.
-
QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) At this point, I want a Twins 4 game sweep. Just to see what happens...how if any, justifications are made in keeping Walker/Not calling up Viciedo... I'd rather call up Viciedo now, which probably would guarantee a split, maybe even a series victory for the Sox. Without a shake up, with Dunn still batting third I fully expect to lose 3, probably all 4. Thome is healthy, right? He'll beat us in at least one of the games. He likes to do that. Bring up Dayan and I say we win two at least. W/out him ... yuksville.
-
Maybe at the all star break we'll get the coveted changes. I don't see why they want to go 4 more against Minnie without Dayan, though. Ozzie batting Dunn third any more is also a fireable offense in my mind. Morel second is close to a fireable offense as well. I realize the options are limited, but cmon.

Only hope is if Dunn retires. We have 3 more years of him otherwise. I just wish we'd give him a permanent spot at No. 7 or 8 in the order til he hits more than one home run a week. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) You bring up Viciedo and De Aza. You make room for them. And tell Greg Walker it was nice knowin' you; meet your new batting coach, Frank Thomas.
