QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 03:01 AM) I have an urge to link to the hyperbole thread again here Face it when a team is this bad offensively you are gonna have hyperbolic type statements. You'll have to ban the entire board almost.

Sox offense is very offensive. So sad to waste the starting pitching we've had this season.

Please educate me ... a.) Will Blago be able to appeal? If not, why not? He won the first trial and govtment got another trial. b.) Do you feel Blago is a big-time crook or was his crime small in nature? c.) Will he go to a real prison? d.) Is the mop haired Blago a likeable guy to you all or a douche? My take is he's guilty and kind of dumb. I don't really see his appeal to voters. Is it the hair? I would think he would have the right to appeal though.

All-Star Voting -- How Ridiculous is this System?
greg775 replied to shago's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I really don't like the fact the game counts for homefield advantage in the WS. It benefited us in 05 of course, but that just sucks. I mean if the game really counts, then have the commissioner and the managers of teams with the five best records in both leagues pick the all star team in a conference call. Anonymity will be assured. I mean we need to have the best f***ing teams with something as important as homefield advantage at stake!! -
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) My two cents: the booing him is pointless. What does that accomplish? You think HE does not know fans are unhappy? Do we really think he's happy hitting .173 and doesn't care? If he was some lazy ass or clubhouse cancer like Milton Bradley, I'd boo away. But he's not. He seemed genuinely excited to be coming here. I'm sure it's not helping Dunn any. To those at the games ... does the booing seem mean spirited and hateful? Or is it just like the obligatory booing for a guy hitting .175 and whiffing all the time? I get the feeling it's kind of obligatory booing and not hateful.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) Sergio Mitre released by Brewers. I think he'd be a great fit in our bullpen as a long reliever and a sinker baller. Pick him up! I'm serious. We need to start stockpiling prospects/and or pitchers and give 'em the Coop/Humber treatment. There have to be more Humbers out there. On another note ... we should take a bet on who will be the next person to start a new thread on Soxtalk. Man we just have the same threads for weeks now it seems.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) I'm sick of hearing "it's all mental." You know what, take some of that $14 million and go see a f***ing shrink. He went from Cincy to Arizona to Washington and there was seemingly no adjustment period needed, as all he did was rake. Now he moves to the big bad AL, where fans are a bit more vocal than those of the Reds D-backs and Nationals, and all of a sudden he needs to be institutionalized? Swing the bat and hit the ball, fatty. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 06:31 PM) While I'm sure that he hasn't just lost it overnight, I'm sure there HAVE been instances of players in any sport that have done just that. Didn't it happen to Chuck Knoblauch? Yes, I know this is a scary example, but Steve Sax suddenly forgot how to hit. Guys finally just lose it. Wow that first post was pretty nasty Jordan. Swing the bat and hit the ball fatty made me laugh for some reason. Dunn is a bum but for some reason I feel more sorry for him currently than anger at him. Watching him bat does sicken me, though.

On a lighter note, have any of you seen the ESPN 30 30 series piece on Michael Jordan's year in the minors? He's a former Sox farmhand so I figured he could go in the catch all thread. I just watched it and it was so well done. He hit .205 in a full season with Birmingham. The man stole 30 bases. He struck out a lot and had 11 errors in the outfield, which really isn't that many when you think about sticking a man out in the pasture who hadn't played baseball since high school. In the fall league, he hit .250 and was showing improvement. They showed clips and he did sting the ball some in fall league. It was a great piece about an obviously complex man - Michael Jordan. Oh yes, he won 3 more world championships after returning to basketball. I know conspiracy theorists say he was kicked out of basketball for a year for gambling. I just don't see that as being true. Any opinion on whether Mike could have been a serviceable big leaguer? He obviously had some speed and some skills in baseball. The piece was so well done I did feel good inside when they showed his first home run. He hit 3 for the Barons. The team mobbed him. I'm not a Michael apologist. I know he gave a s***ty Hall of Fame speech and was brutal toward some Bulls teammates (his minor league teammates could have been an ass to him and weren't) and had his epic gambling binges (hell I love craps and blackjack), but I don't think he's Satan either. He's complex probably in part trying to please his dad.

Well after reading this, it's obvious the Sox are doing the stall thing with Viciedo because of service time. Of course that has to be the reason. Hope it doesn't cost us the division. Cause this lineup remains kind of inept.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) Mix in a few bombs and a lotta k's, and yeah, you're right on... I think getting Viciedo up here to replace Pierre would be addition by subtraction at worst. How many times have we seen Juan up with two on and less than two outs fail to get the job done? He is very unreliable for anything but a grounder to the right side. Viciedo, at least, could be a threat to hit the ball to the outfield. I'm thinking after he finally gets called up and does well, everybody's gonna be saying, "What took so fricking long, Oz?" Hopefully it won't be too late and we fall one game shy of the Tigers or something crazy like that cause of reluctance to improve our lineup.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) Your books of course. My bad. I'm paranoid I guess these days. Go Sox!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) He's also "Getting better" and "playing at least average at the position overall despite being paid only $400k a year". He's hitting .283 since May 1. And he ought to have more at bats than that, someone just keeps insisting on benching him. Yes, he does need to take a few more walks and show more power. But that is how you develop players...they need playing time, and you need to give them a chance to play through it. Danny Valencia, on our arch rivals, has 8 HR this year, but is hitting only .213 with a .631 OPS, yet the only guy on that team with more PA's than him is Cuddyer (oh, and Valencia has over 100 more PA's than Morel). The Twins got a brief jolt from him last year, now they're into a developmental stage with him. Nice post, I like the points you make but you said he's doing "exactly" what he's supposed to be doing in a response to a good post and I wanted to challenge you on that. I don't think one walk is exactly what he's supposed to be doing and I don't think his OBP is exactly what a starting third baseman should be doing. I said I want him to play every day.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) I totally want to see them. You could have at least put that in green if u meant my fans and not my books.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) The Sox aren't a public company, they are private, therefore they don't have to show the books. I know. I just thought they might want to cater to the customer. I don't go to games now, but we had season tickets for years when I was a kid. I know there's a greater chance of me winning an Emmy than baseball teams opening their books. Forget I brought it up.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Do you plan on showing your books to everyone who wants to know how you are doing? Nobody wants to see my books. I'm not a public figure and I'm poor.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Brent Morel is still doing exactly what he should be doing. I love his glove but he's doing EXACTLY what he should be doing? Hitting .253 with 182 at bats with one walk and an OBP of .263? I mean I do like the young player but I would take exception to your comment. He should be doing better than one fricking walk all season. And I do want him playing every day. I love his glove.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Why should they? The only exception I would accept is if they want public funding for a stadium or something like that. Otherwise it is nobody else's business, except MLB. Cause I, the paying fan, want to know how my Sox are doing? Why wouldn't they open the books?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Maybe Paulie can arrange for Dunn to be kidnapped. He can hide him somewhere in his 16K sq ft mansion in Arizona. This is the best line I've ever read on Soxtalk. Great stuff.
-
Hmmm I guess according to Joe Pos's research, the Jordan4Life wasn't guilty of hyperbole in yesterday's game thread like somebody said he was. Jordan only said Dunn was the worst player in 30 years I believe. Maybe it was 50, I forget. Guess it really was 75 years.
-
Are Balta and Southsider arguing? Dat's what I'm trying to figure out in this thread. I wish baseball would open its books to the public BTW.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) Every day I come to this site hoping to see a thread that says a real change has been made to the composition of this team. So disappointing. Whaddya mean? Hector Santiago doesn't float your boat? (green)

You'd think Oz would be sick of this horrible offense. He probably thinks Viciedo will be another station to station plodder. In theory he loves having Juan. Bad thing is we got the old Juan. He's not fast anymore and he's not good in the field.

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 04:56 AM) p.s. The other thing I learned watching BP is that you can't extrapolate BP success into game success. I chose Teahen as my pick-to-click that day because he must have hit a dozen bombs into the Safeco stands, the best performance of any Sox batter. Naturally he was 0 for 3 with two Ks... Interesting posts. Keep them coming. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 01:02 AM) I don't boo players except Jaime Navarro, but I do think people have the right to boo someone making a ton of money playing a game. If its too much, I'm sure Adam has made more money already this year than millions will make in a lifetime, he can go home. That said, when the game begins, Dunn is not booed. He's not booed when they announce the line ups. He's not booed when he's announced as the hitter, he's booed when he strikes out, and we haven't seen this rate of strikeouts for a long time. It looked to me like Friday night he may have something to build on, but something is very wrong. He's late on 86 MPH fastballs. He's fanned 16 times his last 6 games. He has 11 games with at least 3 strikeouts. He's only had 9 games with at least 3 plate appearances where he hasn't struck out at least once. Great post. I did notice he was not booed when he stepped to the plate. Some clapped each at bat. It's when he gets one strike, then two the rumbling begins. Then strike three ... boo. To strike out four times today, looking sick against Livan who was soft tossing .. it makes you wonder how Dunn even looks in batting practice. -

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) 3-3 this week at home vs. the Cubs and Nats is NOT acceptable. Whadduya mean? That's a .500 record which is better than the team's overall win percentage.
