QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 02:58 AM) Both Peavy and Pierre stated that the team came out with no energy today. That's pretty frustrating to hear when you have your entire bench playing, as they should be your energizers. That is frustrating. Maybe it's the Rockies. That is a pretty dull team except for Tulo. But what's wrong with the Sox? You'd think they'd want to win the third game and thus, the series 2-1.

QUOTE (DOWNTOWN PANTHER @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Dont take my word for it. Check in with me at about midseason and let me know then. You guys dont have to shoot the messanger here. Alos, for the person comparing Adam Dunn to Reggie Jackson. Relax!! Wow. Downtown Panther was right. He said Dunn would be a waste and voila, a waste. Dunn is hitting .333 as a pinch hitter! His new role. I've discovered it. Over his last 29 at bats in 8 games, he has two hits, both in the same game. He has 16 strikeouts in the 29 at bats. two walks. However, prior to that he was 5 for 17 over six games with two homers and six ribbies. That was an encouraging six-game stretch before this current misery.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:27 AM) Rios does not deserve to get benched. He's hitting the ball hard right now and whether he is loafing it or not, he is one of our two best defensive OF's. Viciedo would certainly make a difference in this lineup, but unfortunately, Ozzie is not going to give up Pierre or Omar, so if he does come up, it's going to be at the expense of Teahen or Brent, both of whom deserve a legitimate role on this team because of their versatility. Nice to see Pierre and Beckham do so well. I refused to watch the game because of that godawful (on paper) lineup Oz threw together today. Though I did get back to a TV in time to watch Juan's blast off the fence. I was a little worried when Beckham almost got thrown out at the plate since that bomb kicked off the scoreboard perfectly to the right fielder. Great pitching again aside from the one bad inning. As far as Rios ... he is who he is. He's 0 for his last 11 after his hot streak in which he was 12 for 28 over seven games. is he hot or not? O for 11 is not good. 12 for 28 is good. His on base percentage for the season is .269; .593 OPS

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) Don't forget early inning bunts. Not any more I hope. I'm now in your guys' camp of no bunting. I only want guys swinging for the fences. They've proven to me they can't score runs any other way. Not in '11 anyway.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) You're over reacting. Well, I'm checking out right now cause it's first pitch time and I'm definitely boycotting this game. Remember me in the game thread when you see out after out. Run to Vegas and your bookies now and bet heavily on the under and an L. Sayonara and have a nice day. It's 105 degrees in Kansas and hot n humid and I gotta work 5-1 a.m. Byesie. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 01:56 AM) Yes, in our offense, I'd rather have the guy who can hit the ball out of the park. It's also probably 99% likely that .220 hitter has more walks than Morel does. The way our team is made up again this year with no speed, I want our best home run hitters in the lineup every single day. This team cannot score runs w/out the long ball. Bombs away, baby. Lift and pull the rest of the year like you guys have been doing ... only extend it to over the fricking fence. Good pitching and home runs. Our only chance at postseason play. Can anybody argue this with me with a straight face??? Cmon this is our ONLY POSSIBLE FORMULA for success. Home runs n pitching.

White Sox vs Rockies First Pitch 2:10 CT

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) LOL I don't know about decades but that truly is a pathetic looking lineup. I have made the decision to not watch one pitch of this game. I can't imagine what to think if some poor Sox fan drove to todays' game in Colorado to watch that lineup. It's even weak defensively. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) pierre lf, vizquel 3b, dunn 1b, rios cf, teahen rf, ramirez ss, castro c, beckham 2b, peavy p Study this lineup and tell me we have a chance to win this division. No way. This is conceding today's game. And please don't say I'm over-reacting. This may be the worst lineup for a White Sox team I've seen in decades. Ozzie conceding games at this stage of the season is very troubling. Rios our cleanup hitter? Is this a cruel joke? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) The other thing worth remembering is that if Adam Dunn had been Adam Dunn in the first half, this team would have a top 5 offense in MLB. As it stands...we're middle of the pack, and we're middle of the pack with 5 black holes in our lineup. If Dunn and Rios were doing what they were capable of, we'd be verging on a top 3 offense, even with Pierre, Beckham, and Morel being weak spots and Alexei struggling for the last month. Lexi's struggles have been troubling. He can really really help our team, I almost want to say carry our team, when he gets hot. And Beckham ... man I don't know what to think. He's really a miserable hitter right now. I didn't see his double last night. He's another guy I almost expect to make out now every time he goes to the plate. When is this team going to get red hot at the plate where we start mashing over a 2 week span?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) except, according to WAR, he is not. Not by much though Fair enough. But just seeing Rios lead off for us is a very depressing thought. He's another of our many candidates for the 9 hole. His batting stance, the way he holds the bat and his overall approach saddens/sickens me. -

Just a little request. On future game threads can people put in the tv info like last year? It's helpful for lazy people who wanna be reminded if it's on WGN. thanx. -

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I guess Juan's been hitting a bit better recently, but would Ozzie ever put Dunn in LF? Setup the order like this. 1. Rios-CF 2. Morel-3B 3. Quentin-RF 4. Konerko-1B 5. AJ-C 6. Ramirez-SS 7. Dunn-LF 8. Beckham-2B 9. Pitcher Why in the name of Caesar would u ever want Rios leading off for this team. Rios is even worse than Juan. Terrible terrible choice IMO. -
Predict this season's longest winning streak
greg775 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
4 games. This is the year we just stay blah the whole way through. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Unless Detroit or Cleveland suddenly hits a 10 game winning streak, or the Sox hit a 15 game skid where they go 2-13, we're not going to do a full selloff. It's too late in the season and we're still in the race. I could see us doing what we did last year, have a real s***ty start to the second half, like a 7-14 run. At that point, bye bye White Sox baseball players. Sell.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:06 AM) Konerko continues to carry this offense, and it's so much fun to watch Sergio pitch. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:23 AM) Jeff Cox with a call that fails 90%+ of the time but broke our way. We were due for a break with the way things have been going, especially in extra innings or late in ballgames. Two games were nearly mirror images of each other. Rockies SHOULD have won tonight, by all rights. They've also used Street two games in a row. Santos scared the bejesus out of Spilborghs. That pitch was one of the nastiest he's thrown all season. Now 16/18 in SV/SVO. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:30 AM) There is really nothing to dissect. It was 2 medicore teams playing each other. The Sox' pitching was good (as usual) and the offense was brutal (as usual). Yes sir, great posts all. Mark B. pitched well again and Sergio was nails with the help of Rios who did make a nice grab on that shot right at him. No bats. Surprised 3 runs were enough. Nice win. Try to start hitting and win the series.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:57 AM) 5 games behind CLE and only 4 behind DET in the loss column That truly is nothing at this stage of the season. Those of you who didn't give up in May like I did were right. But why can't this White Sox team, which on paper is the best team in the division, wake up offensively?? We have a zillion games against Central Div. teams (gulp) and can make something of this season. It's time to bring up Dayan and see if that helps. This offense is so bad it is hard to believe we're still in the race in this lousy division. Lift and pull is this team's motto. I'm just hoping we lift and pull 3 or 4 a game over the fence the rest of the year. -
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) Hope you're not trying to suggest the idea that Lili being benched/sent down would be justified. lol. Not at all. I think he's proven he's a major leaguer. Like a lot of people, I just think nobody in their right mind thought the runner could possibly score from first on a bloop single. Tulo's play has to be the hustle play of the season. There was no hesitation. It's like he wasn't going to be denied.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:08 AM) credit to Jeff Cox for sending Quentin on that sac fly... surely noticed Rios was up next and did what's best for the team QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 03:09 AM) That is the one thing I am still holding on to this year. 4 games out, and we have played like s*** for the most part. 1.) I don't know if Cox deserves credit because he should have been out by the proverbial mile. All the outfielder had to do was throw a simple lob toss and the runner was dead. But ... it worked and Rios would have made out, so the Cox decision worked. But it took a horrible, horrible throw to get the run in. I hope if we ever start hitting again, Cox does not send one of our plodders home on a bloop pop to right in a similar situation. 2.) I agree. This team has been so bad and is only six or seven back in the loss column. The only hope for me personally is somehow we start hitting home runs in bunches the second half. Really our team has not changed. It's the long ball or nothing. No team speed whatsoever now that Juan can't steal a base. The power hitters have to blast homers and so do the Lexi's and Beckham's and Rios'es and Dunn's or we're going nowhere offensively. -

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 02:56 AM) Tell the truth: Who would have howled if he had been out by 15 feet -- as he should have been? Rather be lucky than good? How did not not just lob the throw home? It was so shallow. I would have been pissed but with our offense it was a no brainer. Rios would not have gotten a hit. -

Alex also could use some time in the minors (I realize that isn't gonna happen).
