QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) Beckham's swing is loooooonnnngggg I agree. I think Lilly's is too long as well. Dunn's is just funky. They all should copy Paulie -

How come big leaguers can't hit this soft tosser? If it's so "different" facing a 60 mph fastball, s***, why don't more scouts just draft guys who lob it up there? Adam Dunn might consider changing his weird batting stance where the bat bends behind his neck. He needs to attack the ball against this soft tosser and he's taking pitches? Be aggressive, Adam. -
He's beaten out Juan pure and simple. Very bizarre to leave him in the minors as team desperately needs pop in lineup.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:08 AM) Like I said, I was at the game, and I'm like 99% sure it was a bronx cheer. If it wasn't, MY cheering was a bronx cheer. Even with the walk, his play today was bad. 0-3 with 3 strikeouts, he made a bad throw when Danks had the guy picked off, and he almost air-mailed another into LF after a pick-off got away from him. While Dunn sucks, Ozzie must realize it. STOP THROWING HIM OUT THERE AGAINST LHP'S. I would've rather seen Teahen play 1B today over Dunn. Yikes. The whole situation is just brutal.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:29 AM) I totally understand the fans' frustration and anger but I just don't agree with booing "our own". QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:51 AM) Were't the fans cheering and standing up for Dunn in his last at-bat when he walked? Was that derisive cheering of the "Bronx cheer" variety or was there the sense that booing the guy mercilessly might not be helping...so they might as well try cheering? Great effort by both Bruney and Peavy. Castro came through huge (perfect approach against a guy throwing 99-101), and Sergio looked like his "good" self again. He's 15/17 in save opportunities now, I think. Lillibridge has had his struggles these last two games with the bases loaded. Absolutely have to make contact SOMEHOW on those squeeze attempts, even on sliders down and away. Beckham, still trying to figure things out. At least Rios looks better. The Fox telecast actually showed that one inning here and I got the feeling it was totally of the Bronx cheer variety. They showed some fans afterward and they were laughing and shaking their heads cause he got on base. I agree with fathom that he brought it on himself. He could make SOME adjustments to at least hit the ball once in a while. But he's going for the long ball every time and whiffing through fastballs and waving at breaking balls.

The Sox sure don't have problems bouncing back from troubling losses. Just like that, nice 3-0 win. Pitching great. Glad to see Castro very excited after his big hit.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) Last night we saw some signs, right? That rope down first for a double and a ball that was about 2 inches away from being an unrobbed home run... That's an actual statistic - right, the unrobbed home run. Yes the double was very good. I didn't see the home run live but the replay and that sucks that that guy robbed Dunn. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) Juan Pierre's June slashline: .200/.259/.240/.499. He's 1/2 SB/SBO. It is of my belief and unprofessional opinion that JP is not performing at an acceptable standard of what should be expected for even an average Major League baseball player. Despite these terrifying/embarrassing splits, he still leads the team in plate appearances for this month. That, to me, demonstrates that our manager, a man who's paid handsomely to, well, manage and put this group of 25 professional ball players in the best position to succeed, is either not seeing what is painfully obvious (and you would then naturally have to question his baseball intelligence) or that he's so, what's the word, obstinate (yes, that will suffice), that he'd rather go down his way than to adapt or adjust on the fly, in essence doing something that you don't really want to do but doing so because it would be beneficial for the team he gets paid to manage. We are now three months into the season and all the "it's early" talk no longer holds sufficient water. You simply cannot give a player of Juan Pierre's caliber another 300+ PAs because of staunch adherence. There's no legitimate logic behind this. Well, other than, let's see, "I'm DA focking manger and I make da facking lineups" or "You guys have to work real jobs. Wat do you know?" Juan should be batting ninth. Problem is Gordon, Morel, Rios and Dunn are also deserving of batting ninth. It's a team game and it's not all on Juan. Though Juan does need to go away probably. Viciedo might give this team some oomph that could get us on a 9-1 stretch.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) Sometimes when ballplayers try to do something they fail. /shrug It may change after the all star break, but our hitters seem to fail a lot. You've got to beat Washington at home if you want to make any noise at all. The Sox seem to fail at an alarming clip when they have runners at the corners with less than two outs. All those comebacks last night were great, but ultimately just led to another potentially deflating loss.

no faith and no patience in this organization

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 03:56 AM) As long as Ozzie keeps managing non-chalantly in close games like tonight, we'll be lucky to get back to .500. And I still don't see the division winner finishing with less than 88. As bad as the Twins and White Sox played the final months in 2008, that was the mark. With how much the division rivals will play each other in the 2nd half, one team will inevitably get hot and take off. Bruney was a bad choice, but when is somebody in this organization going to surprise and actually get the job done once in a while? Bruney could have come through, but no... meatball, home run. I guess Humber is a guy who stepped up. Who else? -

If Dunn starts hitting we can make some noise. If he doesn't I think we're in trouble still. Paulie and Dunn coulda been a heck of a 1-2 punch. Just make it happen, Adam. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Or there are people who really don't know exactly what the problem who hate AJ so they just assume the problem was AJ showed him up. Do you know what was said? Seems to me you are accusing people of doing exactly what you are doing. Teammates argue all the time. We will really know if this was a huge issue if Castro becomes Peavy's personal catcher. Exactly. Post of the thread.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) In theory he should love the Brent Lillibridge-type player, a guy who can barrel-up any fastball and impact the game. But he doesn't really play him much either so I don't know what he likes anymore. I disagree on him barreling up any fastball. He couldn't make contact last night when all he had to do was hit the damn ball and we win the game late. He struck out with that big bat of his and his loopy swing. I like Lilly. I do. But he had a chance to win the game last nite and failed. It would have been a nice comeback win to steal, games we need to win if we have any hope of bettering the .500 mark this season. I know some of you magically think we're going to start winning at a .700 clip and run away with the division, but I want to see it on the field.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) Upon further consideration, I blame the 11-22 start for this. We're Sox fans, it's unacceptable. We give a s***. QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:00 AM) Greg is one of my favorite posters. 1.) I agree. That horrific start really turned a lot of us into maniacs. Also the "All In" campaign. 2.) thanks, sir.

F*** it III: Sox vs The National. First Pitch 7:10 CT

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 06:18 AM) Or it will be the straw that broke the camel's back. Could go either way. Dunn is encouraging and Rios seems to be pulling out of it a bit. But the fashion in which Thornton got beat is a mirror image of the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the season. Where have you gone, Gordon Beckham??? I don't know how some think this loss will help us. It won't help us IMO. Can we come back from yet another heartbreaking loss? We shall see. It was a bad loss despite the fact the team battled back many times. Like caufield said it can go either way. I wouldn't assume this loss will magically help our sub .500 team. One way of looking at it is after a couple nice comebacks, Lexi blew the game with a lazy error. And it can't help Matt's confidence any with the team continuing to blow behind him. It was not a good result on the south side tonight despite the nice comebacks. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:20 AM) Really thought we'd win after AJ's homer because how many times has a team come back to tie it 3 times late in the ballgame and then gone on to lose before? That was 2 strikes, 2 outs. The baseball gods aren't supposed to shine on the Nationals after giving us so many chances. I know this team just amazes with its ways to lose games. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 04:56 AM) Of course. About the only positive is that Humber can stop warming up now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Tigers and Indians lost so it doesn't matter. So sick and tired of hearing that. The DBacks and Nationals win because they hustle on every play and never let up. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:01 AM) Applaud the effort by the team. Tough to lose this one no qs, but atleast we battled, error hurts for sure. Well atleast I guess we didn't lose any ground on the division. Sox did battle big time, which is a big plus. But Sox blew so many chances again at home. Inexcusable at bat by Lilly, followed by a fail by the prior hero, Teahan. Bases loaded one out with the home team up ... got to win it there. On a positive side, losses really don't bother me anymore, not til we get a few over .500. I just don't believe. Losses just don't wreck me any more. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 04:44 AM) I can say for a fact that's simply not true. The question is how did they greet AJ when he returned to the dugout? Did they pretty much ignore him or go nuts? -

Considering all the pitchers we've used, this would be a devastating-type loss. What's so difficult about scoring one more run than the Nats at home? -

Matt needs to suck it up and give us 2 great innings. Maybe we can eke out a win in the bottom of either this inning or the next if Mattie can do the job.
