Welcome to the White Sox, Mark. Is this his first big moment as a Chisox? -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 03:27 AM) Edwin pitches his ass off and he gets a no-decision. And the Sox will likely lose. That's just not right. This team is allergic to .500. -

Who is this Bruney guy and where did we acquire him? Big fat gopher ball. -

It'd be nice if once in a while the Sox could throw somebody out on the bases. Are we the worst in the AL in allowing runners to steal? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) I'll use an example from your neck of the woods. Before he won the national championship, "Bill Self is the worst in-game coach in the NCAA. His teams always choke. All he can do is recruit...he's just a snakeoil salesman the boosters, alumni and students love for reasons beyond my comprehension. Why they can't see the real truth is beyond me. The average Hallmark Cards creative director with no basketball experience could stand on the sidelines and win 35+ games with his teams every year." That's a good example. I just thought of something, let's say you had that exact post, and put in there a few times the words, "in my opinion" or "I may be mistaken but" then would it not be hyperbolic and more suitable? I still think a lot of the hyperbolic posts come when somebody responds to another hyperbolic post.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) The problem with the White Sox and the cause for the hyperbole is simple. The White Sox have won 3 games when trailing after 6 innings. This has been an issue since the beginning of last year. Thus when the White Sox fall behind early there is pretty good chance the game is over. That is fact not hyperbole. The ineptitude of Dunn, Rios and Pierre have driven fans to the edge. All had plenty of opportunities against the cubs to blow a game open and they failed. This board is simply a reflection of the fans on the radio and at the park. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) I think what people are referring to, J4L, is your tendency to use words like "rape" in your posts. Seriously, do you need to constantly post things in such an increasingly dramatic and disturbing fashion? 1.) That was a great post by Harry. My favorite White Sox teams have been the ones capable of coming from behind. Hopefully the second half the law of averages kicks in and the Sox have some comeback wins. Harry also mentioned the big three of Dunn, Rios and Pierre. Any discussion concerning any of those three guys will result is something unpretty. And any thread titled, "Hudson just violated Kenny" has trouble written all over it. 2.) I hate the 'R' word and the other 'R' word. Just seeing them kind of sicken me and make me feel bad about society. 3.) I hate the word hyperbole. I think it stems from high school. I never understood it from my English teacher at Brother Rice then, Mr. Perry, and don't understand it now.

QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) I'd take that against the unknown. I wouldn't cause that's way too many pitches for 5.1 innings and would mean a deathly dulll game. He needs to start pitching like he's capable of, IMO. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 05:21 AM) I don't even know what constant hyperbole and talk in absolutes means. I don't think I do either. I think if you try to sound like an absolute know it all, you are gawn. I think a lot of us would be banned under the new rules in April and May when things were really really ugly.

If the bullpen truly is getting better, that would be awesome. It'd be the opposite of past years where it started great and went to hell after Joe Morgan would brag about it. My opinion of the pen: - Crain: Better than average. I kind of like him. - Matt: Looking very good of late. A lot more confident even though he's given up some hits, etc. - Sergio: Amazing closer. One poster said he got lucky vs. the Cubs in game two. I don't know bout that. -- Ohman: No real opinion. -- Bruney: No real opinion. -- Sale: Still has a lot of promise. Wouldn't mind seeing him go down and learn to start cause we may need him in the future. -- Pena: Me no likey.

I don't even know what WSI is.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Is it "fair"? I'm sure not claiming it as an absolute rule for sure. Is in at least an indicator of a basic trend? I believe so. Also I am referring to the actual game threads, not the after threads. Oh I thought you meant the after thread. In a game thread, I'll post a lot if I'm in there win or lose. Unless it's a hit and run situation where I pop in there for a second. People usually get mad at me in there so I tend to post a lot while in there.
-
For some reason, the last 2-3 wins I haven't opened the win thread until later. Normally I open them and put in my take on the stars of the game. I don't know if it's fair to count the number of posts in a winner/loser thread. Sometimes you just make one point and move on, unless somebody challenges it, then you freak out and post a lot more.
-
I don't want to start an "are you in" or "out" thread, but in studying the standings, I will eat my words and say, that entering the Washington series, the Sox have at least done what many of you said they would do, get back in the "race," make themselves "contenders" again. The Sox are six back in the loss column, four back of Detroit in that column, one ahead of Minnie. At this date, you are right, that is nothing. The Sox are 18-18 at home, battling back to .500 after starting so poorly at home and the Sox are a respectable 2 under on the road. If from this point forward, the White Sox could play as they have been on the road (a little better would be nice) and become exceptional at home ... if they could suck it up and play their Central Division foes with a sense of urgency and start beating them as they should (looking at rosters we have the best team), yes there would still be plenty of time to win this division. As everybody knows, with our pitching staff, we're built for the postseason. So many of you, as of this moment (it can change in one week with this weird team) were correct in saying that horrible April/May could be overcome. Yes you were right. The Sox CAN overcome that horrendous start. As mad as I was at the team for that lousy start, I was wrong. The question is .. will the Sox do it and are they going to make me look foolish if I start believing again?

I finally read the media reporting on this. Everybody on here is blaming AJ. The Sun Times article makes no mention of any AJ gestures, only this from Peavy: SUN TIMES As Peavy walked off, he gestured with his glove toward Pierzynski on the mound. After Chris Sale pitched out of the jam, Peavy and Pierzynski, still wearing his mask, stood face-to-face in the dugout near the tunnel to the clubhouse, exchanging words. The White Sox telecast showed the confrontation. Although Peavy denied it, the best guess was that the issue involved pitch calling, something Pierzynski excels at. “That’s a misunderstanding with the sign or whatever, you have to ask them first,” Guillen said. “One thing, when they have a problem, we discuss, we talk about it and then move on. I don’t think it was a big deal.” This thread easily could have been a Peavy bashing thread if Peavy made the gesture.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) He woke up the team because of showing up the pitcher? Did we even get on base in the last 3 innings? Good point. Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see if it has any effect on the team long term. Now that this seems to be an issue, I could see our dysfunctional unit going in the tank again and we point to a key moment in the season and it's when AJ turned on his pitcher and it infested the clubhouse with animosity. If this is playing as big in the clubhouse as it is on here, then maybe we are f***ed again because of this incident.
-
QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) It's not even so much the below 500 teams as it is the division games we've lost. Except for Cleveland we can't seem to beat anybody in our division. I really thought after we won the WS, we'd own this weak division. I thought the Sox understood that's the key to winning pennants. You couldn't pick better teams to be in the same division with. Detroit, Cleveland, KC all suck. Minnie is good but the team has traditionally had a pretty low payroll yet beats the Sox any time, any place.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 06:59 AM) How the f*** do you know if he woke it up? How many games have we played/won since this incident? He showed up his pitcher, period. REFUTE THAT, for christs sake, instead of bringing up other irrelevant s*** that has no basis on the topic of this thread, which is AJ showing up his pitcher. It's this kind of s*** that he's been known to do on just about every team he's been on QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) Let me spin this around another way for people who are using this as a bash Peavy thing. How about the next time AJ misses throwing out a runner by 10 feet if Jake points into the dugout? Or the next time a pitcher walks the bases loaded in front of AJ with no one out, and AJ swings at the first pitch and pops out weekly to second, is it then OK for the runner on third to point into the dugout for a guy who can hit? 1.) Wow. I think he woke the team up because we still won the game. The White Sox tend to blow games in all sort of ways. Blowing that game against the Cubs would really have sucked. We were at home and needed to win 2 of 3 against them to show any signs of life. 2.) That's actually a fair point. It's thought provoking. It's definitely something Jake might be pondering doing in response. I guess if we have a one run lead and a guy gets a single, steals second and third and that team has already had 4-5 stolen bases in the game, it would be very similar situation. The pitcher saying, 'get him out of the game already.'

This Website is so dysfunctional. The team is asleep all season. AJP wakes it up and many turn on AJ. WTF? I'd describe this team as passionless this season. AJP woke it up! That is awesome.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:28 AM) Yeah, everyone hates AJ. This is going to linger. Oh wait Like I said, boys will be boys," Peavy said. "We are going to say stuff to each other at times that may not sit well with the other. Talk through it and get it straight. Like I said, I love A.J. Pierzynski to death. He competes his rear end off and has for many years. He won a World Series here. I would like to do that again with him." Do the people thinking this is a huge deal ever have arguments with their wife or girlfriend or co-workers? Is any argument always the end of the relationship? Some people on this board want the team to get in a big brawl to show some guts and life. This incident shows some life in this lifeless piece of s*** team. I love it. Kudos to AJ and Peavy both for being competitors unlike many of the underachievers on this team.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:16 AM) It was obvious to many, especially AJ, that he ran out of steam a few batters before Ozzie finally pulled him. Exactly. Ozzie was pulling the being afraid of Peavy thing again. AJ just freaked out, seeing the game being pissed away again. I can't believe you guys are this thin skinned. This baseball team has blown SO MANY FRICKING GAMES this year. AJ was seeing another being pissed away. Thank you AJ.
-
Yes, Bobby ate himself out of effectiveness as well. I just don't get the AJ hate on the incident. He had to be scared to death Ozzie was going to leave in Mr. Moneybags. I'm glad AJ freaked out. We need to win baseball games.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:43 AM) Bulls*** Hawk's nose has been in everyone's business since he has been here and gives his opinion on everything whether you want to hear it or not. Yes, but not in 1-1 interviews with players. No way in hell he is going to ask a fellow ballplayer a tough question. Not.His.Job. He's the play by play guy. If he was a journalist, sure, a journalist HAS TO ASK the question. Not Hawk. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:47 AM) AJ is an ass since he got in the league. Twins could not trade him fast enough the Giants just said anything for you to go and released him and Sox train is worn way thin. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:50 AM) It's amazing how many people are using their hate of Peavy/contract to defend AJ's actions. It doesn't matter who the pitcher or catcher was in the situation. It's irrelevant. 1.) We don't win the WS without this prick. 2.) Who cares if AJ showed up Peavy. Did you want to lose the game? We were on our way to blowing another game. Thank you, AJ, for helping us win. Everybody's afraid of Peavy, including Oz. I love what AJ did. Somebody now needs to man up to Dunn to wake his lard ass up.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:41 AM) I agree, it's terrible to show up your teammates like that. Peavy should have been taken out sooner, but A.J. has to restrain himself. He was showing up Ozzie as well. Who cares? The game was about to be blown AGAIN by the White Sox. AJP is sick of seeing us lose big games. I call AJ a hero. Who the f*** cares if he hurt Jake's feelings? We all know AJ is a prick. I love it. Oz is afraid to take Peavy out because Peavy doesn't ever want to come out. AJ forced the issue. I love AJ.
