Sox @ Twins SLUMPBUSTER SPECIAL THREAD 9/18
QUOTE (11and1 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) I'm against it, but if it happens we damnwell better win the f*****g fight. It's not the right time to start something with them. They are on fire; they have our number. I GUARANTEE you they will kick our ass in any fight tonight. It would be ugly. And Thome will own somebody just like Nolan Ryan beat the s*** out of Ventura. It would be a similar fight. I predict Thome knocks out Jones with one punch to the face if we fight. And somebody breaks Alexei in half.

Not having Jenks is killing the Sox
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) The fact that Putz blew it after being given the ball does not change or absolve the fact that Bobby was absolutely terrible except for a few weeks in June, and doesn't mean it wasn't the correct decision. Putz's stats were murdering Bobby's in every category you can come up with and he had been a successful closer in the not too distant past. I haven't talked about it because it's a predictable, very annoying, and at times just plain asinine discussion to be honest. It also was annoying for me in standing up for Jenks and getting brutalized. I still say it's all bad karma coming back to bite all of us. All of you that wanted Putz got it shoved in your face; the 2 of us who wanted Bobby got it shoved in our face; and those who love Thornton got owned last night. Twins get last laugh; we get to watch the Bears.

Not having Jenks is killing the Sox
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Alot of people couldn't wait for Jenks to lose his closers role but him being unavailable has wrecked the bullpen. Jenks had 3 blown saves all year and the bullpen has has blown the last 3 straight without him. Like him ,or not, Jenks needs to be in that closers role and when he's pitching well the Sox are very tough to beat. Players are creatures of habit and not having Jenks has disrupted everybody's role. The Sox picked their spots with Santos, had Putz for the 7th, Thornton for the 8th , and Jenks closing it out. That bullpen was the best in baseball and shut down the game. Now Putz has struggled outside the 7th,and we saw THornton last night extended last night. Santos has still pitched well. Look at the Sox record since Jenks was lost compared to when he was unhittable for about 5 weeks. I think losing him has been the 2nd half demise of this team. A lot of people on here who wanted Putz, who demanded Putz close, have been mighty silent during his suckage. This board is not gonna be a fun place the next two evenings. The Twinks are having a week long party at our expense. Cowley's tweet was true. Twins > Sox Yankees > Twins and everybody in Central watching football two weeks after the season.

What Should Be The Next Course of Action For Your White Sox?
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) I've seen a lot of evidence that this team can almost win a game against the Twins. Great post. Tonight figures to the the blowout with Liriano rolling, then we'll almost win Game Three, but lose again and be six back and the naysayers can go on to the Bears full time.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) No. The expectation every single year (unless your team is rebuilding) is to win and get to the playoffs, not to think it's cute that they JUST missed the playoffs. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Indeed. With that type of attitude you might as well follow the Cubs. Tough crowd. I for one enjoy the ride. It's baseball.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
I would think if Thome told the truth, tonight's blast had to be one of the top 10 moments of his career, ok, maybe top 20. Pretty much putting away Minnesota's closest divisional rival against a team that didn't want him back. At his age, such a dramatic blow. Wow.

I think his post makes sense in he's saying because of the utter venom on here this year we really don't deserve a title. I don't know about message boards of other teams, but wow ... this one is NEGATIVE. Even when we were 25-5 it was ultra negative. Weird. It's the economy, baby.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:54 AM) After seeing the reaction of White Sox fans over the last week and a half, I hate to say it......but we don't deserve a World Series title. Good fans support their team through thick and than. Good fans have confidence in their teams at all times. Good fans convey that confidence onto the team and inspire them to achieve positive results. The White Sox fan base is just the opposite of this at this point in the season. Tonite, the Twins blew a four run lead and than blew a one run lead. If we did that in a game, a high majority of our fan base would give up on the game. Compare this to what Minnesota fans did tonite. They went into the bottom of the 10th confident that their team would come back from the first deficit of the game and the team accomplished the task. Every team is going to have some bad losses during the season. Every team is going to blow some games during the season. Get real people...there are 162 games in the season and no team has ever come close to going 162-0. It's how we react to a bad AB, a bad inning, a bad game, or a bad week that makes this team winners or losers. And if you don't think the fan base plays a part in that reaction, you are definitely mistaken. The negativity of this fan base has to end if we are to ever win another World Series....not just in this season, but anytime in the foreseeable future. Some of the more vicious posts on here -- the utterly hysterical reactions of posters to any adversity in the past month — actually have made me take losses better. I sometimes feel like we do not deserve it like you stated. I sort of agree with your post. My definition of a good fan does not jibe with what I've been reading on here for some time. I've tried to stop reading the game threads cause those are the worst. The others are usually OK. I mean I feel we are not going to win the division, but some of the wild posts on here the last month, wow. Venom.

SOX @ Twinkies Danks (12-8 3.19) vs. Baker (10-9 4.76)
QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 04:34 AM) sad to say, but i'm done with the season. not so much because of one game, but more of how we lost this one game. a little overboard? maybe. i dont care. the organization deserved this. I agree we're toast, but what if we end up somehow returning to first place? Would you be back then? It's one thing to say we can't win it as I'm saying. I'm also saying I hope I'm wrong, really wrong. I mean now that you are done with the season, what if by some miracle we get back in it??

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 04:17 AM) You're not a broken record every night either so don't worry about that. You don't think it's odd Kotsay gets bashed even after tonight's game? I may be a broken record but it's usually responding to what I find some amazing comments.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 04:15 AM) Because one game a season does make. He is a fine pinch hitter or role player as a primary DH he is terrible. He also had a great game tonight and isn't the reason we lost. We couldn't hold a lead ... again.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 04:14 AM) I seem to remember quite a few posters who wanted ANYONE but Jim Thome because he was washed up. He was too old, too slow, and stuck out too much. The general sentiment was literally "anyone but Jim Thome." Well, some got what they wished for. Amen, brother.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
I know, but my god. It makes me think people on here are from another planet sometimes. Kotsay also homered and was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two ribbies. Broken record with the criticism of the guy every single night.
-
JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
I dislike Kotsay as much as anybody but I find it hilarious he continues to get buried on here on a night he goes 3-for-5 with two ribbies and two runs scored. What am I missing here? So every game we lose he gets ripped no matter what he does. I find that friggin HILARIOUS.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 04:01 AM) I expected him to strike out. Everybody here should remember when half the board was whining about him striking out every time in the late innings last year. Oh I remember that.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
Thome's a Hall of Famer. He's a gamer. Of course his adrenaline flows against us. We were lucky when he went to the Dodgers; we were f***ed when he went to the Twins. Crede would have been doing this to us as well if his back hadn't been broke.
-
JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
And Putz would have breezed through the 10th? Right. Isn't Bobby still injured? All 3 closer candidates have wet the bed.

SOX @ Twinkies Danks (12-8 3.19) vs. Baker (10-9 4.76)
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:43 AM) The bottom line is we all love this team and the direction they go in oftentimes affects the way we are able to go about our days and nights every April - September. But in the end, we have to remember this is a game. I'm as big a fan as anyone, but I learned to always try and put things in perspective. Deep breaths. Tomorrow is another day, and another game. Exactly. I don't know how anybody can get mad. The Twins blow us out some nights, beat us like this others. Please Minnesota win the f***ing World Series for once and maybe we can start winning the division again and beat your ass. I mean we take the lead in the 10th and still lose.

JIM THOME!!!!!!!!
QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:47 AM) the shame of it is, in the playoffs NY will put Cano about 50 ft into right field and Thome will ground out to him about 5 times and go hitless in three games That's exactly what's going to happen. We are cursed vs. the Twins ... still. When it will end? Who knows? I just wish Minnesota would win the World Series and get it over with so maybe our team and other teams would be fired up to beat their ass. They continue to beat us in every which way, every day.
-
Minnesota Misconception
I don't think anybody fears the Twins, but I do think many of us expect them to not only beat us, but blow us out in games. I fully expect us to lose all 3 games. I would be shocked if we win two. I wouldn't be totally surprised if we win one. I dont fear Minnesota. I'm a realist. This is another season where they again have our number. They have no pressure on them going into this series and frankly figure to bury our ass. That's all right though. The Sox had a chance to kick their ass in Chicago and promptly lost 2 of 3. And I do expect a fight this series, which may turn out the way it did when Robin Ventura charged Nolan Ryan. Bad timing for a fight/beanball war. But I sense it is coming tonight in game one, to try to set the cliche-like "tone" to the series.

Ozzie Guillen
I agreed with the poster who said keep Ozzie as long as he wants to manage, so yeah that's a lifetime contract. I guess there could be a point I'd want him fired. If he started acting like a raving lunatic every night or something. He could freak out like Zambrano or something or say something so over the top they'd have to fire him, but if he behaves himself I see no problem with a lifetime contract.
-
Ozzie Guillen
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) Keep Ozzie as long as he wants to manage. That's all I have to say about that. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) God we are starting to sound like Bears fans. There's always something clearly better out there. No manager will ever be good enough. They should just run the team based on fan voting before every game, I think we'd be set then. My sentiments exactly. He should have pretty much a lifetime contract to manage the White Sox. He's as good or better than anybody else you'll bring in.

Theories? Why do the White Sox fade in Aug/Sept. every year?
I wish somebody could go through all the threads last year saying how people were sick of Thome. I can't believe suddenly big Jim is so popular around this board when people were glad to see him go.

Relax People
Ranger, seriously, what do you expect from this series. Minnesota beat the Sox 3 of 4 at Minnesota and 2 of 3 at the Cell most recently with the Sox losing in all kinds of ways as the Sox normally do against Minnesota. I mean if the Sox get swept this week and we are six out, it's really all but over. I think right now the odds of the Sox sweeping are none; the odds of the Sox winning one are fair. No way the Sox win more than one with a Minnesota sweep and six-game advantage a likelihood IMO. Hope I am mistaken. The Sox have shown no signs of being able to take care of the guys in Minnesota.

Thanks for breaking everyone's hearts before the 9th
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Darlings of baseball? No one in the media cares about the AL Central. I should say if they win all 3 they will be one of the most significant stories of 2010 baseball, then. Cause a 6 game lead and the record they will have will be amazingly impressive. They'll still get swept or just win one if they play the Yankees in round one, however. That has not changed.
