a great post overlooked in the game thread...
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) The Sox would have to be up on the Twins by 5 games at this point for this board to be content. In other words, the expectations many have here are extremely unrealistic. I'm just enjoying the season. My expectations really aren't that high. I believe the Twins have a better team. I'm hoping for the best while enjoying baseball. I'm not trying to convince anybody to be positive. Do what you want. It's just a message board. I'm just glad I'm learning to post less and not read the game threads. Posting/reading is kind of addictive. I'll try to enjoy the board here and there. GO SOX!

Great. You haven't a noticed in a drop in posts on here, except the same simplistic arguments about Kotsay and Jenks and Ozzie's lineups? Negativity wins out, but negativity ultimately sucks.

a great post overlooked in the game thread...
You can defend the negativity all you want. But a negative environment in any walk of life, even a rather harmless message board community, grows very old. My opinion is ultimately a thorougly negative environment is not a place people want to be. The board is much more negative than last year and I've noticed a drop in threads and posts that do anything but complain. I've stopped reading the game threads at least. Hope I can continue to keep my eyes away from those or at least not post in them. GO SOX!!

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
The day I kick a chair when I watch a baseball game is the day I stop. It's sport. It's fun. Let Rios run!

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 07:13 AM) Even though Ozzie drives me crazy, I love him. That being said, he did tell the team that half of them would be gone by June in April & May. I just wonder how many Ozzie detractors listen to his pregame quotes and read the articles. He always has a good reason for the things he does. I don't see how any sports fan who listens to the guy cannot love him. He's what makes sports fun. Not a dull company man who speaks corporate-ese. He f***ing speaks his mind. He's fricking hilarious. He's the antithesis of an ass kisser. I love the guy as well.

Closing Committee
Seems simple enough to me. Bobby gets paid his millions whether he's pitching or not. It's no slap in the face when you are set for life as he is. Putz got the save tonight. In a closer by committee he should continue on until he blows one. I agree with your sentence: PLAY THE HOT HAND. Why not? If they make the playoffs and WS it's more money for all the players so they should all be for it.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 04:38 AM) Let's just put it this way: we're winning despite his lineups... I prefer to think of it as we are winning because the players that he puts on the field every day are playing very well -- with part of the reason the players are playing well -- is the Chicago White Sox have an excellent manager who did not give up on his team when said players were playing like bums in April and May.
-
Closing Committee
Jenks has been good at times (even if some fans refuse to believe it) bad at times this season. If Putz is hot, go with him a while. Bobby still gets paid. It's not like they are withholding his millions of dollars. I'd let Putz close, quite frankly, til he blows one. If Bobby does have a bad back, the time off won't hurt him. Closer by committee should not be an evil saying in baseball. For some reason, it is.

Help me before I go insane....
Funny quote in the Trib notes about tonight's game. ... Guillen asked about Sox not getting Delgado ... “To sign Delgado here, I would rather have Jim Thome,” Guillen said. It didn't add any further context, but figured it'd spark some wild reax on the message boards since Oz didn't want Big Jim last winter.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
I made my point. I'll move on. Not.Worth.It.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
I'll start looking for that. As for production, I'll take 2-for-3 with a RBI from my catcher EVERY GAME. EVERY ONE.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
He goes 2-for-3 tonight with a Ribbie and gets hurt and catches grief on here. Amazing. Uh oh. I'm sensing a Jenks-like swing in people's opinions of AJ on here. Will it get to the point people freak when his name is in the lineup instead of Castros on a daily basis?
-
Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
AJ got a key hit tonight. I don't know what you guys think you see in his play that is so ominous in terms of his "loafing." Did he not stroke a key hit??? His batting average is low so he's been pouting for months? I didn't see the play but I've seen no mention anywhere in the game stories where AJ did something cocky or loafed so badly on the play he got hurt he was called out for it. You guys see things the baseball writers and broadcasters do not see.

Jenks will Close again
The AP story says Bobby has a bad back. Believe it or not at your discretion. That's what it says. I just want whomever closes to get the save. Quotes of interest: On Bob: “Bobby’s got a bad back,” Guillen said. “The way Bobby’s been throwing, we’ve got options out there. We have to wait to put Bobby back in the closer rotation.” On Rios: Before the game, Guillen offered this explanation of why Rios didn’t play on Friday night: “He’s got a sore everything. The thing that was sore was his bat.” AJ on his own ankle: “I’ll be fine. It’s just a sprained ankle,” he said. “I could have stayed in the game, but they wanted me to get out and put ice on it.”

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
Great win. Clutch hits by Rios, AJ, Carlos. Great pitching. Hope AJP (ankle) and Bobby (back) are OK. Nice to beat a lousy team after falling behind 2-0. Nothing is certain on the road. Nice comeback win.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:18 AM) Aj is an idiot and he finally got burned during his antics. I don't feel bad for him at all. Just read through the game thread since I had to work tonight. Thought it was a good thread overall. This post was a classic in the "no class" department. I always feel for guys who get hurt. Injuries suck.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
True, Squert. It's like Ozzie feels he needs to play him every day. Sucks but I'm convinced he's playing every day against righties the rest of the way.

O. Guillen loves him some Kotsay, so removal is out of the equation
Swisher didn't work out in Chicago, case closed. He played like a total bum. Who cares how he's done in NY? For whatever reason he was totally worthless in Chicago and had to go. Good riddance.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
Kotsay has to be the most popular name in soxtalk history. Lot of interest regarding Kotsay. Hope he gets 3 hits; we made need 'em all.

the comments after the loss in the game thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Bored with the inevitable holier-than-thou posts that always pop uup, and the "how dare you criticize player x what kind of fam are you, they're winning" posts. I don't see many holier than thou posts on here. The few that pop up are much better than the constant negativity on the site this season. As far as your "how dare you criticize a player?" where have you seen those posts? Players are getting bashed on here all the time. I praise Jenks constantly but never say "how dare you criticize him." Only guys that don't get bashed at all are Rios and Castro. Maybe Putz and Thornton as well. I still say a split would be OK in this series. I'd love 3 of 4 but the odds of that are very slim right now after dropping Game One. Again, don't we normally play s*** vs. Baltimore? I just hope the Sox play with fire every night because with our lineup, no game is a given.

Yu mean bored with his optimism?? Somebody wanting to see the bright side or ? Not sure what you mean, but I get "bored" with all the negativity and find a positive thread refreshing.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 06:35 AM) Give me a break. Buck Showalter is a tool and the Orioles are a bad major league baseball team. Reinvigorated? They scored two runs in 10 innings. Unfortunately, we could only muster one. We flat out blew this one. Nothing on the road ever comes easy. I'll be happy with a split of any series, though 3 of 4 here would be nice. Don't we typically suck against the O's? As far as the first post, this board has been on the rag pretty much all season. I don't get it, but it is a very very negative place to be for the most part. Much nastier this season than last. Again, I really don't understand it. Game threads of course are the nastiest, but even those are much more vicious this season. Not complaining, just stating how I see it. Wonder if Rongey's postgame has been more vicious this season than the past.
