  1. IMO, they kicked our ass that entire series as they usually do. Bobby didn't give them any significant mojo more than they always have. The Twins beat us 3-4 w/out Morneau. They own us. Thanks to Thome we won that playoff game which we only won because of the coin flip.
  2. Yeah, good post. That is about right. I know this doesn't belong in this thread. But I'm pissed. The Twins have won 7 freaking games in a row. I'm sick of them. They are too good every single year only to suck in the playoffs.
  3. What about my Bill Madlock comparison? I thought I'd be roasted over the coals or praised universally on here by now for that observation.
  4. If we make Teahen the primary third baseman, I firmly believe this team will lose all mojo it had and will finish six to eight games behind the Twinks who are going to be very very difficult to beat no matter what. It's not like this guy is a good enough player to just have the Sox say, "Welcome back to third base. It's yours. We realize Omar was a vacuum there, but we want to put you and your hole-infested glove and mediocre to slightly above average bat in the lineup on a daily basis."
  5. Royals still want to deal Jose Guillen after he clears waivers or gets claimed by a team on waivers, it was said before the game tonight. I would not have been against acquiring Ankiel. Was he the lefthanded bat we should have acquired? Yost, by the way, loves Getz.
  6. I thought there'd be more complaining about our hitting tonight vs. the A's on a night we made no improvement in the offense. We're 0-1 post trade deadline.
  7. I think he can be a much better hitter than Uribe. I've seen some people are comparing him to Uribe. Is he Bill Madlock revisited?
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:12 AM) Ozzie has just as much, if not more, influence over the roster than KW. JR is not even relevant here. So are you telling me you predict Lillibridge will be on the roster soon over Viciedo? That means our organization has rocks for brains. And if I was JR I'd be relevant here. He's the owner and anybody with a brain can see Viciedo is contributing and has the ability to contribute big time where as Lillibridge has no role except pinch hit/pinch run. If ever an owner had a right to give input or at least sit in on the meeting between the clashing Oz/KW duo, it is Reinsdorf. If he stays completely out of all baseball decisions, that's pretty dumb IMO especially with GM/manager who don't get along.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 01:59 AM) Getting Teahen back and having him DH against righties will be huge for the Sox, imo. He can also play some RF and obviously do a little bit better defensively than Dayan at 3B. First of all, I'm not as high on Teahen as you might be. But second of all, Oz is not going to DH him against righties. It's Kotsay's job. Oz worships Kotsay and probably figures intangibles wise that he's a reason we are in first (soon to be in second I'm afraid, though).
  10. Is it only Ozzie's call? If so that is kind of dumb. I love Oz but he is not the commissioner of baseball. He's our manager. Does KW and even baseball fan/owner Jerry have any say in this?? It's pretty apparent to me there is possible use for Viciedo; despite Lillibridge's nice at bats, he's not needed upon Teahen's return. Too bad the beat writers didn't ask KW today about whether Viciedo will stick with the team the rest of the year. Maybe it's assumed he will?
  11. Why can't the Sox send Lillibridge down? It's not like the guy is needed to be a defensive replacement. I don't see why the Sox just don't send him down. Seriously, why do we need him on the roster if you are deciding between he and Viciedo?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Make. Kotsay. A. Bench. Coach. Even Kotsay should understand a reduced role. He doesn't deserve to play. He can pinch hit. Send down Lilly. Why in the world do we need Lilly up here now that we have Teahen back? Lilly is not a great fielder or anything. Kotsay equal pinch hitter; Dayan 3B/DH; Teahen DH; Omar 3B most of the time.
  13. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) My 5-year old son is really into baseball, the Sox in particular. He was at the kitchen table eating a bowl of cereal this morning, looks up, and asks me, "why does AJ Pierzynski always swing at the first pitch?" I laughed and assumed I might have said something like that and he remembered. I asked him if that was the case and he said "no, I remember that game against the Indians where he got up with runners on and hit into a DP on the first pitch." Granted, he is really into baseball, but for a 5 year old to notice this really tells you something. Wow. I'm speechless. At 5?
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) I'd personally like to see Teahen and Viciedo platoon at DH with Omar at 3rd when Mark comes back. If you want to put Mark in RF and give CQ some DH appearances to try to keep him healthy on days righties pitch, I'm fine with that since Teahen can't be any worse than Carlos out there. Anything like that works. I wouldn't want a straight platoon cause Teahen will get way too many at bats. Viciedo is a much better option. Teahen I still think is buzzkill.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) I know the clubhouse is important, but Kotsay sucks and his position there shouldn't matter. I agree with you but I don't see Ozzie making that move since he was a player and looks at the clubhouse thing.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Soon I hope. I'd like to see him in right field. Are you serious? Remember this post when you see how bad he is for us out there. He's not a good outfielder as KC fans know all too well.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) When does Teahen come back again? If Kotsay is DFA'd when that happens and Viciedo is on the team, at least I'd have reason to think our team has some semblance of logic about it's everyday players. True, but Kotsay is beloved in the clubhouse. He won't be DFA'd. We have to pray Lilly is sent down.
  18. Not a bad point. We could have Matsui easily and be b****ing about him. I still think some of the Thome lovers, if they will be honest, would admit they were bashing him at times last season.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Have we ever picked up a pitcher with great stuff but needed some tweaking and that guy has turned it around that same season? Ken Kravek and LaMarr Hoyt. Just kidding, but I liked your question and thought I'd start with an answer so somebody else would.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) Maybe they are bringing Dayan along slowly so that he can be a big contributor down the stretch? There is more than 1 strategy on how to handle a young player, and not everyone believes you should just throw them in the fire and hope for the best. Ruining Kotsay's confidence isnt a big deal, ruining Dayan's could end his career. So do I want Dayan to play more? Absolutely. Am I going to make a huge deal out of it while the Sox are in 1st place? Absolutely not. Its not how you get there, its how you finish. If Dayan is raking down the stretch, who cares how he got there? That's a good post. Only disagreement is I think he's been brought along slow enough and probably is ready to play more. And we need the stick.
  21. I don't know, in the winter, teams with money might actually want a guy like Jackson. As long as he's not hurt, there should be a market for him.
  22. Wouldn't you all agree if for some reason Viciedo played in 3/4s of the games the rest of the way, we actually HAVE added something to the team? The problem is everybody figures, probably rightly so, he will be sent down or not play much.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) ? He's trying to be nice and not rip Ozzie some more.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) I actually like Jones as a defensive replacement, occassional PH for $500k right now. I actually agree and I dislike Jones. Nice to see him in there in the late innings in right. Just release Kotsay (I know we can't, though, he's too good for clubhouse). We better send Lilly down and keep Viciedo up here.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Dunn wasn't going to resign anyways. Just say the Nationals wanted too much for a rental, so we said no. Don't bring up payroll constraints when you just acquired a pitcher who makes 8 million dollars next year and needs to be fixed. It rings hollow. It may ring hollow, but Jackson is a rental. He'll be traded this offseason for sure unless we trade Mark or we are freed of Paulie's contract, etc.
