  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) If you can convince Ozzie that Kotsay shouldn't be starting against right handed pitchers, the Sox can afford to keep him. But when Teahen gets back, Kotsay may cost Viciedo or Lillibridge a spot on the team. Both of those have done positive things for the team on the field. I do believe that Kotsay brings good chemistry and the guys on the team like him, but you can't risk on-field performance. The team is here to win ball games, not to make friends. I agree with you. I just thought Ranger's arguments were a new perspective on the matter or one with a little insight since he has naturally has sources on the team and in the clubhouse. The bottom line probably is he's not going anywhere.
  2. Lillibridge and Viciedo are definitely fun to watch hit.
  3. Ranger's arguments were new, not old, and rather interesting involving the chemistry aspect of baseball. I welcome any chance to learn more about the clubhouse and some takes from those on the inside. I'd rather have Viciedo than Kotsay, Teahen and/or Lillibridge though.
  4. If what Ranger says is true, Freddy and Jackson are the keys to the season. If Jackson continues his bad run and Freddy runs out of steam, 2/5s of a rotation faring poorly won't cut it. They are keys, as well as Putz, Thornton, Jenks. All five have to perform exceedingly well, assuming the Big Three in the rotation continue to do just fine. Defense goes along with pitching, so Ranger do you feel Teahen should NOT play much 3B the rest of the way?
  5. To Ranger ... good luck in your comments backing an unpopular player. Take it from an expert in that regard. I suspected he was a good clubhouse guy. Ranger is suggesting he's a great one. That means he stays. I don't see why Lillibridge can't be the one to go down, then. I'd like to sink or swim with Tank. Don't Demote Dayan is my motto. Please Sox.
  6. Sounds like the title of this thread should be changed to "Don't Demote Dayan!"
  7. What kills me is Ozzie, KW and whomever before the trade deadline liked the "makeup" of this team, including chemistry, et. all. Now the makeup of the team changes with the return of a guy who was with the team when the team stunk. Now we send down Viciedo, whom the fans like and has given the lineup a nice spark. Now, I see Ranger's point about Kotsay playing backup first base, but ... let Paulie play it five or six days a week and Teahen play it the other day (god I wish Teahen didn't have to come back this season). If you have to have Kotsay, send Lillibridge down. We can get by without playing Lillibridge in the field one time a week. If we HAVE to have Teahen, make him the utility guy. I realize Viciedo is going down, but that seems pretty dumb. Oz and KW ... the makeup of the team is about to change a lot if you send Viciedo down. You liked the makeup of the team leading up to the trade deadline. My preference of course would be to dump Kotsay, No.1; if not, then send down Lillibridge.
  8. Sending Viciedo down to minors weakens the Sox lineup potentially, IMO. Sending Lillibridge down does not significantly hurt the team. Getting rid of Kotsay does not hurt the team at all. Dumping Teahen does not hurt the team at all. Solution: Keep Viciedo please.
  9. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) I agree with Ozzie, and would suggest the movie "Sugar" to anyone who wants to get an idea of what it's like for these young Latinos to come to the U.S. to play baseball. The movie is fiction, not a documentary, but is truly reality based and made by people who did a lot of research, and know the world they depicted. Caufield, you should consider sending your greatly informative post to Cowley, Gonzalez and maybe the person who wrote the yahoo story. They might want/need your input. Good stuff.
  10. Wow. I want him to get saves and the Sox to win every game.
  11. My line was taken the wrong way, just like somebody took the following joke the wrong way. It is THE INTERNET. Stuff gets lost in translation. Somebody wrote: Admit it, self-appointed nickname guy, the Stealth Elf is exponentially better than The Bridge... The "self appointed" nickname guy didn't like the wording of that, somebody telling him to admit it and calling him a name. And it was meant as a joke by a mod. But it was taken the wrong way because it is a message board and things get lost in translation when not verbally expressed. Mine was LIGHTHEARTED as well. If people can't get that and get called out in a GAME THREAD then I don't know what to tell you. Why wouldn't somebody want to PM me, a person who got all worked up about my love of Bobby. PM me with a comment or joke or rip. The guy got a dominant 3 out save and Sox fans just might be happy about it and want to give me s***. Nobody on here wants Jenks to fail, or I don't think they do. That would be insane.
  12. The problem is it wasn't a personal shot. I thought Sox fans might pm me with congratulatulations and/or comments about Jenks. I doubt anybody wanted him to fail. Usually the gamethread is a more liberal place as well.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) Admit it, self-appointed nickname guy, the Stealth Elf is exponentially better than The Bridge... QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) It gets under my skin that every time I call a player a name anything other than their birth name 3-4 people comment "Such a dumb name" "stop calling him that" "give it up". Yeah, THAT gets under my skin because it's annoying. Don't like any of the nicknames i say? Great, sounds like it's pretty easy thing to ignore. I ignore every time I see the "Klutchsay" nickname. I think it's pretty dumb, but you know what, if it makes that person happy to say it, then that's fine, I don't need to start a fight. I do like the Stealth Elf cause he looks like an elf. That is kinda funny. Somebody send Hawk a note. I support coolman. This place has a weird vibe lately. I don't know how to describe it, so I won't try at this time.
  14. That was a lighthearted request; and I was looking forward to getting some PMs from people to see if they would send some. The times I"ve PMed and received PMs we've had very civil, cool discussions. And yes I've engaged in cool discussions with at least 4 people on the board, admins included.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) When I said something about letting it go a while back, this is the exact stuff I was talking about. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) I can see Teahen getting put on waivers after he's healthy to see if anyone wants him. I can't celebrate a win in a game thread and a good job by my favorite Sox of all time? I was happy and celebrating people. Bobby is a member of the Sox. I thought others would be happy with me. I guess I was wrong. Why does everybody think there are ulterior motives to posts? If you are not happy for/with me, then sorry. It was not a troll thread. And I did have to go to church. As people in game threads may realize, I go Sunday afternoons. I did not realized I was disliked that much. Oh well. That's my true explanation for my post(s) after today's win and Bobby excellence. That is a good idea on Teahen. Hope we put him on waivers and Kotsay as well. It's pretty bad when a still-young player like Teahen won't be claimed. He was a mistake addition by KW.
  16. I agree. I wonder what would have happened had Hudson had 3 incredible starts for us, instead of mediocre ones? Would we have kept him? Would we have gotten Dunn? Jackson for Hudson doesn't thrill me.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 02:50 AM) probably been answered a million times...but with Detroit and the Sox both having tomorrow off why aren't we playing the first half of the DH tomorrow? I wish we played it tomorrow. I'd like to see our record in our last 10 doubleheaders. I could be mistaken but don't we suck in DHs?
  18. Gotta go to church but I'd expect many personal messages in my inbox congratulating me on Bobby Freaking Jenks! Adios.
  19. How can you not love Bobby Jenks? Whiffs one with hook; blazing heat to end game. Bob Jenks!!!
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) This game makes me want to puke. Outside of the 5th, we've been disgustingly bad. I sort of agree. Not a great game.
  21. Answer to the thread: "A stud." Now close the thread.
  22. exactly Bmags. Bobby did nothing to ignite them. Baseball is day to day. The Sox NEVER get ignited by something like that nor do other teams.
  23. Good point, Kev, but it's frustrating they always seem to beat us. I hate the Twinks more and more. Sorry for the negativity tonight.
  24. QUOTE (Ranger @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:06 AM) I'm pretty sure that guy was attempting to be funny by trying to sound like an insane caller. I don't think he really believed what he said. If he meant it, though, God bless him. He's really not, man. If you were watching LaRussa on a daily basis, you'd be scratching your head at quite a bit of what he does. Then you'd realize Ozzie isn't all that different from most managers as for as the perceived insanity of his moves. He's not stupid and, actually, he's fairly standard in terms of his decisions. The problem is that he says crazy stuff and so people tend to think he doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to baseball. Trust me, though, he's forgotten a lot more than we'll ever know. You are right Ranger. You haven't been around a lot lately. A lot of Ozzie displeasure/hate on here. I agree with everything Ranger said on Oz!
