Attempt to cheer up White Sox Nation
I can be negative at times, but I hope to think I am also the type of fan Rock writes about. Great piece, Rock! I don't see how anybody can attack that last post of Rock. It was beautifully done. Perfect ending. ... "Maybe you feel like negative energy is all part of being a fan of a team and investing yourself in the outcome, but to me, thats just wasted energy and I choose to not take part in it. If you think thats me thinking too much of myself, thats a flaw that I can live with." Game, set match to Rock.

Teahen Up, Viciedo down
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Alright, now I would like to see more Teahen and less A Jones and Kotsay. That could be because Teahen's been gone for so long you forgot how mediocre a player he is. I think he should be grouped with Jones/Kotsay as blah, not emerging as a better option than those 2.

Teahan rehab could be great for the sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) Well, lack of offense, including from the DH spot, was a big reason for our slump early in the season. You're right there's plenty of reasons. That doesn't mean we should ignore them all. I was responding to the person who said if we lose by 1-2 games we'll know the sole reason. Kotsay playing for us; Thome for them. And I still fully expect Thome to do more damage against the Sox this season.

I'll turn it off when Juan comes to bat. Cause he's doing his RBI work when I'm not watching. When I watch he hits a weak fly ball or tapper to the right side.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) So we let teams hit our batters or ram over our catcher whenever they feel like it and lose the game. That's got to be great for team morale. Oh and then have your skipper shower that opponent with compliments. All this stuff is bogus if we just play well enough to win. I agree we have to play with playoff intensity more often against teams in our own division, though. Just play hard and win.

Not when I'm watching. Good for Juan that he's doing it in games I'm not watching.

Teahan rehab could be great for the sox
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) In a sick sort of way, atleast the Sox know what they did wrong if they lose this division by 1-2 games. There won't be a myriad of reasons as there were in 2006 - it will be because Mark Kotsay was the DH for the White Sox and Jim Thome was playing for the Twins. Wait a minute, I thought there were several who said Jenks' blowing the save in Minnesota put us on a downward spiral we couldn't come back from. He's the reason we won't win it. I thought some said Peavy getting hurt was the reason we won't win it. Kotsay/Thome isn't the reason the team was pathetic the first 2 months. We just got blown out in two of three home games against Minnesota. Kotsay/Thome wasn't the sole reason. There are plenty of reasons we won't win the division.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) After last night it's hard to get excited. Section 526 was FULL of twins fans. That was hands down the worst game that I have ever been to. But with that being said, I want a serious ass whuppin tonight. And if one of our batters get hit, I wanna hit 2 of theirs. This s*** has to stop. Let's beat Detroit's ass, then go up to Minny with a chip on our shoulder. This "respect" for the twins and Gardenhire is starting to get out of hand. If a bench clearing brawl is what it'll take to ignite this team, then so be it. I'm tired of the White Sox getting punked out. The retaliation stuff is growing old. Hit the damn ball, pitch it and blow them out on the field. A brawl would be very stupid and I don't understand why people are starting to talk about brawling. Teams in our division thrive on beating us; we do need to be more intense in these games, but brawling is not the answer to anything except getting a few guys hurt. p.s. I'm sick of seeing Juan Pierre come up with men on base.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) How many times do we have to see another team push us around? We come off as a bunch of pansies. We come across as pansies because we can't win the f***ing game. It has nothing to do with not retaliating. If we beat them on the field, we look good.

Teahen Up, Viciedo down
I edited my post as I looked up some stuff. He has no walks in 82 plate appearances. 15 K's before tonight. I wonder how he's going to learn plate discipline. If he gets 600 at bats, my god just the law of averages will have him hitting .250 or less because nobody can hit for average if they don't ever walk. Can you learn such a thing?

8/12 White Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 05:55 AM) BS. If we get any kind of a clutch hit, and don't make stupid mistakes, we win this game. Between not covering second, the balk, the wild pitch, and getting the bases loaded three times with less than two outs and managing a dink RBI, we buried ourselves. Productive outs and intelligence wins this game. It definitely was a bad night to play a s***ty game. You'd think after they took 3 of 4 from us in Minnie we'd at least win the series here if we are contenders, not pretenders. I'd like to bury us, but you can't in baseball. Anything can still happen, though I'd agree as of tonight I'd give us a f***ing F for performance this game and this series. It was a flop.

8/12 White Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 04:39 AM) The Sox use to out homer a lot of teams but what good are they when no one is on. They don't need more power. They need to score runs when the bases are loaded with no outs. This team lacks situational hitting. It seems there is nothing going on between the ears of this lineup when they are up to the plate other than trying to kill the baseball. Blowing so many opportunities at home tonight in such a big game is kind of alarming. It'd be easy to give up on this team and say the Twins have proven they are simply a better team ... but we all know baseball is a f***ing strange game. Even though they've wiped us up, we're still in the race. BTW, that was a s***ty at bat by Pierre when we needed him to come through, down 3-1. Nice weak pop to center. And Lexi promptly failed as well.

Teahen Up, Viciedo down
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 03:48 AM) It's hard to argue with any roster move that frees up more playing time for Mark Kotsay. Seriously though here's hoping he can learn to take a walk. Wow Dayan was 0 for his last 15 and 1 for his last 19 since going 8-for-14. For the year he has 0 walks. He had 15 K's entering tonight's game; dont' know how many times he K'd. Lousy run for Viciedo.

I hate Joe Mauer, only because he's so good. Damn, he's a good baseball player.

8/12 White Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 03:36 AM) I'm pretty resigned to the Twins being the better team, right now. Our pitching advantage is mitigated by their vast offensive advantage over us. Not to mention the fact that their manager is not a moron. All their fans thought their manager was a moron when they were blowing the 9.5 game lead versus the Sox. Easy to be frustrated and overreact tonight. We have totally faceplanted against Minnesota again. 3 of 4 in Minnie and 2 of 3 in Chicago. What a joke. I still say we have the wrong attitude against teams in our division. They are out to prove a point when they play us, the biggest and best city in the division with a WS under our belt. We play like chumps and get beat a lot by teams in our division not named Detroit. They play their best against us and we play normal to s***ty baseball, no extra emphasis at all on our divisional foes. Their manager is the same guy who faceplants every postseason the team makes. If we made the postseason as much as they did and faceplanted as much as they do, you'd all bury our manager for all those early exits. Hopefully we can bounce back from two horrific series vs. the Twins.

What moves have come back to bite Kenny?
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) I'm still not happy with Brandon Allen for Tony Pena. I've never understood the Pena love on this board. How is Allen still in the minors at Reno? He has 21 homers and 72 S ribbies. WTF? Shouldn't he be in the bigs?

Teahan rehab could be great for the sox
Part time DH might be OK but I'm of the opinion Oz will ride Kotsay all the way to the finish line this year. When he played him both ends of the DH and again the next day I got over it. He's playing against all righties all the time and maybe a lefty or two, as well, if Jones is hurt. It's easier to just accept it, for me at least. I don't know what he's going to do with Teahen. Probably move him back to third which would bring us back to the April/May White Sox.

8/12 White Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) He had a great year last year. I don't think it makes any sense. Kendall is still slapping singles once in a while at the age of 36. Maybe AJ's power is gone and he better turn into Kendall the rest of the way. Only steer singles the opposite way and quit the open stance where he's trying to pull gappers.

Teahan rehab could be great for the sox
Teahen's been gone long enough that people forgot how bad he was defensively. He's not the answer to anything but very limited duty.

Is Freddy Dead (Armed?)
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) Since the all star break, he's been pretty much the worst SP in baseball. 5 GS 22 IP 7.25 ERA 2.06 WHIP .374 BAA That's right, opponents are hitting .374 off of him in his last 5 starts. It's not a mental thing. It's an atrocious beyond words thing. Anybody that mentions his record should be kicked in the nuts. If Freddy gets lit up again, will people blame a.) Freddy. b.) Ozzie. c.) Kenny. d.) Coop. e.) all of the above. He's pretty close to giving us an automatic L if he keeps soft tossing fastballs and hanging breaking balls. I think he should sit a start. Oh wait, we traded Hudson for Jackson instead of trading some lousy prospects for a guy who was a salary dump.

What moves have come back to bite Kenny?
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) Why are we so happy to ignore the supreme amount of ass that Edwin Jackson has dominated, and so quick to forget how ineffective Hudson was in his pre-deadline "try out" with us? Cause of Hudson's lack of experience. Not everybody excels right off the bat. They might need three or four starts to get going. Funny listening to Les Grobstein (sp) tear a caller apart last night who said Hudson was only pitching well cause he's in the NL.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) I think part of the problem also was that Ozzie buried him when he was hot. Dayan was killing the ball then he didnt play for 3-4 games, got a game in, didnt play. They need to give him more consistent time than that or send him down. His up and in hole is really exposed now, he needs to lay off if he wants to stick in the bigs Damned if you do; damned if you don't. That's why managers earn/deserve the big bucks. Ozzie plays him a ton and he goes 0 for 20, he's a bum for rushing him; Ozzie doesn't play him and he hits when he does play him, Ozzie's a bum for not playing him more. Personally I still think he should play every day and have somebody work with him as well. He has the talent. What's he going to learn in the minors? They will demand he take pitches?

Blago Trial
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) Surprised no one else has started up a thread on this. What does everyone think the outcome will be? I'm guessing guilty, but I wouldn't be shocked if there's a hung jury and it needs to be retried. The defense is basically going to have to say that Blago was using the seat for political deals, not personal deals, and the fact that he's poor and in debt supports that. There's the one demand for 1.5 million, but maybe they can spin that as him joking around and not being serious. His testimony is going to be great theater. Wow, you know your s***. First post on the thread may be right about the hung jury. For us novices ... please summize. What did Blago do that was illegal in non corporate mumbo jumbo? Did they prove the case against him? Is the jury star struck? I thought Blago was cut and dried guilty. Please tell us what is goin on?

8/11 White Sox Vs Twins
QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 02:49 AM) He really can't just take a pitch. This is unbelievable. I love his aggressiveness, but ... I can see him having no luck against righties if he's gonna be hacking at everything. Funny thing, when he takes a pitch, it's usually a strike, then he really starts hacking away.

At some point he's gotta be a little more selective. Still love his potential, though.
