  1. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) He had a great year last year. I don't think it makes any sense. Kendall is still slapping singles once in a while at the age of 36. Maybe AJ's power is gone and he better turn into Kendall the rest of the way. Only steer singles the opposite way and quit the open stance where he's trying to pull gappers.
  2. Teahen's been gone long enough that people forgot how bad he was defensively. He's not the answer to anything but very limited duty.
  3. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) Since the all star break, he's been pretty much the worst SP in baseball. 5 GS 22 IP 7.25 ERA 2.06 WHIP .374 BAA That's right, opponents are hitting .374 off of him in his last 5 starts. It's not a mental thing. It's an atrocious beyond words thing. Anybody that mentions his record should be kicked in the nuts. If Freddy gets lit up again, will people blame a.) Freddy. b.) Ozzie. c.) Kenny. d.) Coop. e.) all of the above. He's pretty close to giving us an automatic L if he keeps soft tossing fastballs and hanging breaking balls. I think he should sit a start. Oh wait, we traded Hudson for Jackson instead of trading some lousy prospects for a guy who was a salary dump.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) Why are we so happy to ignore the supreme amount of ass that Edwin Jackson has dominated, and so quick to forget how ineffective Hudson was in his pre-deadline "try out" with us? Cause of Hudson's lack of experience. Not everybody excels right off the bat. They might need three or four starts to get going. Funny listening to Les Grobstein (sp) tear a caller apart last night who said Hudson was only pitching well cause he's in the NL.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) I think part of the problem also was that Ozzie buried him when he was hot. Dayan was killing the ball then he didnt play for 3-4 games, got a game in, didnt play. They need to give him more consistent time than that or send him down. His up and in hole is really exposed now, he needs to lay off if he wants to stick in the bigs Damned if you do; damned if you don't. That's why managers earn/deserve the big bucks. Ozzie plays him a ton and he goes 0 for 20, he's a bum for rushing him; Ozzie doesn't play him and he hits when he does play him, Ozzie's a bum for not playing him more. Personally I still think he should play every day and have somebody work with him as well. He has the talent. What's he going to learn in the minors? They will demand he take pitches?
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) Surprised no one else has started up a thread on this. What does everyone think the outcome will be? I'm guessing guilty, but I wouldn't be shocked if there's a hung jury and it needs to be retried. The defense is basically going to have to say that Blago was using the seat for political deals, not personal deals, and the fact that he's poor and in debt supports that. There's the one demand for 1.5 million, but maybe they can spin that as him joking around and not being serious. His testimony is going to be great theater. Wow, you know your s***. First post on the thread may be right about the hung jury. For us novices ... please summize. What did Blago do that was illegal in non corporate mumbo jumbo? Did they prove the case against him? Is the jury star struck? I thought Blago was cut and dried guilty. Please tell us what is goin on?
  7. QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 02:49 AM) He really can't just take a pitch. This is unbelievable. I love his aggressiveness, but ... I can see him having no luck against righties if he's gonna be hacking at everything. Funny thing, when he takes a pitch, it's usually a strike, then he really starts hacking away.
  8. At some point he's gotta be a little more selective. Still love his potential, though.
  9. Danks. Man, what a game. 12 wns now. Carlos has 24 homers. Nice. Good bounce back by Santos after the horrible inning opening bases on balls. Now everybody's happy. Nice win. Hope Gavin can keep big Thome in the park tomorrow. And Mauer. AJ and Kotsay don't stand a chance vs. Liriano nor does Pierre. It would be nice to try a Sunday lineup. Hope AJ and Pierre can prove me wrong; Kotsay doesn't figure to play.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) At least Ozzie put out a decent lineup. Seems to me a "decent lineup" to us is having no Kotsay in it with Viciedo in it. Is that all it takes to have a "good lineup" to Sox fans on here these days? Is that all it would take for no b****ing? No Viqquel; no Kotsay and addition of Viciedo every day?
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) IMO, if you need cheering up after losing a few games, I am proud of you that you just got into baseball this year. This is a sport of failure and the team is going to lose at least 60 games every year, its just part of a baseball season. We are still in this for the long run. There's a few cliches in that post by Rock, but I won't criticize him. I generally love his posts. He's not a ledge jumper.
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) That's what I've been thinking. If the Sox lose the divsion by 6 games or more we can shake our heads and say the team wasn't good enough. But if they lose it by 1 game or so, we can easily pin enough loses on the lack of a real DH to have made the difference. Wow. If we lose the division by one, I thought the reason was Bobby Jenks blowing 2 saves in that one week including one to the Twinks, which apparently was the turning point of the season. I think whether we win or lose the division, the team needs to make some significant moves again for next year. Any chance we could trade Pierre? He's done OK but I feel for season tix holders who have to watch a whole season of him. Apparently Bobby has hit the brick wall closers hit and is about done, so we need a closer. We need power from the DH. Paulie's defense will remain great, but at some point age will click in. Looks like AJ may have aged to the point he's no longer a solid hitter. If we lose the division by one ... is the real reason no JAKE PEAVY?
  13. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) I think that maybe teams have just figured out how to hit Freddy. That junk was only going to last for so long. Hopefully he'll get some rest and figure out another way to baffle hitters. Yeah, I didn't see many of the early starts of Freddy so I don't know how soft he tossed. But the last couple starts? Wow. Makes me want to pick up a bat. His soft toss meatballs have been ridiculously tasty for hitters.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) I can't believe people are pining for Mark Teahen. I'm not. We're stuck with Kotsay til the offseason, but Teahen brings little to the table as well.
  15. Good attempt to cheer us up. Thanks. However losing to the Twins is growing very very old and combined with 102 degree temperatures all week in KC, it didn't work. This might not be the right thread, but I was thinking about this ... do you think us winning the WS combined with the fact we are the biggest and best city in our division, that teams in our putrid division always are "fired up" when they play us? I think we underestimate how hated the White Sox are in our own division. We're the hunted despite the fact the Twins arguably have ruled this division for some time. It baffles me how the Sox never turn it up a notch in arguably the most important games of the year -- ones in our own division. Think about it .. KC regularly throws at our hitters; the Twins own us; Cleveland always holds its own against us and this year has ruled us. We've been OK versus Detroit. My point is that we possibly do not want to beat teams in our own division as badly as they want to kick our ass because we are ... Chicago, by far the best city of all cities in the division and team with the big prize (WS crown). Hope my point made sense.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 06:37 AM) I'd like to point out I'm in the 1% that wanted Thome back. How come we never acquire any ex Twins to reverse the jinx we have against them? They get Crede last year who homered against us and now they have Thome? f***.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) This is a Tyrus Thomas situation all over again with you. You're over-critiquing Jackson because you love(d) Hudson so much. If you can't admit that, then I don't have anything else to say. I don't see you analyzing and counting how many great and mediocre and bad innings Danks or Buehrle or Floyd or Garcia have pitched. Cool to see a mod and admin fighting just like us normal peons. Let me solve this argument: The trade was ridiculous. We should have never traded Hudson for Jackson. We should have traded Hudson as part of a deal for a BAT if we did trade him at all. Or we should have traded some unknown prospects for Jackson, who was a salary dump. KW overpaid big time! However, Jackson has been very good to excellent in his two starts with us. And I think we all agree we hope he keeps it up.
  18. The title of this thread scares me. Cause tonight was a disaster of a start to a series. It couldn't have been worse. Not only did the Sox lose but the Sox got embarrassed pretty much. If we scored 10 runs tonight, you know Sox version of Murphy's Law would have us scoring one tomorrow. Will the Twins' bats be silent after such a massacre? We can hope.
  19. I haven't seen a ton of Freddy's games this year but I have seen his last couple starts and it looks like his pitches have zero zip on them and any breaking ball just hangs up there begging to be blistered. Without burying a guy who has 10 wins ... is he done for the rest of the season? Is it just a period of dead arm? Would you sit him a start and have him throw a bullpen session the day of his next scheduled start to deduce whether his pitches remain horrible? Is Freddy's arm dead? That's my question. Since there are absolutely no new threads being started on here, I thought I'd start one.
  20. This is a funny line in the story. He's on a team that has a chance to make the playoffs. Is the writer trying to say the Sox don't have a chance? I mean I personally think the Twinks are gonna win the division by five or more games but the Sox are just one out now. Kind of a funny line. As far as Thome, there was so much hate for him on here last year. People were ready to move on. Now Kotsay/Jones was an awful replacement, but it was time to move on. Unfortunately for us, he beat us tonight and we still got 2 games to go this series. Thome may be the guy to help the Twins break the Yankee hex in the playoffs. His veteran bat/leadership might help them this time vs. New York.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) I'm not buying the whole "Orioles played better under their new manager" theory. Its not like they hit the ball well or made web gems all over the field. The Sox couldn't hit their god awful pitching and lost 3 one-run games because of it. Did Buck Showalter pump up Bergesen, Millwood, & Matusz so much that they stopped sucking at pitching? I doubt it. The Sox went through an awful cold hitting stretch and it cost them a 4-game series against a bad team. Hopefully they can turn it around with 1st place on the line, heading back to the friendly confines of the Cell should help them out some. Weren't there three walkoffs in that series? The Sox had a bad series but it was more than simply bad hitting. They played s***ty. Baltimore did play better under a new manager, though IMO. Hope the Sox get the memory of that monster home run by Roberts out of their minds quickly. That's the hardest hit ball of the season. Go SOX! One at a time, with the goal putting the Twinks in their place.
  22. 4-4 isn't a bad road trip at all, but we definitely played lousy in Baltimore. I don't know if "fired up" is the right word, but our guys should have been extra aggressive realizing the O's would be playing much better under a new manager which usually inspires teams for a week or so before they return to s***tiness. Should be interesting to see if we play well at home vs. the Twins. I'm sure it'll be built up as another "statement" series between the two teams. Unless one team sweeps, it won't mean much in the big scheme of things. I'm afraid Thome is due to beat us in at least one of the games like former Sox seem to do when they play us. After they beat our ass 3 of 4 recently, it would be very nice to win 2 of 3 this week. Losing all 3 might start a rapid downward spiral. Winning all three would be incredible and might start the Twins on a downward spiral since they've done a nice job of catching us after blowing that 9.5 game lead against us earlier.
  23. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 05:07 AM) For years we have had made up boogey men in domes, and have tipped our caps to many a 6 ERA pitcher who may or may not be released in his next start. The pitching is keeping this thing together and can be extremely dangerous in a short series against anyone. The offense needs to start being dangerous. There are no more dome goblins, and the twins team is not a slappy grindy thing that Guillen and friends have feared. We just need to maximize our offense's capability. I would DH Viciedo. Have Kostay on the bench as a PH. Omar over at 3rd for now and Castro behind the dish. That optimizes our offense as much as we can for right now. I don't think we've made up boogeymen in domes. The Twinks normally had an amazing record in that piece of s*** building, knew how to play in there, and regularly kicked our ass in there. They'd rout us or find a way to beat us in the worst possible ways. Our team sucked ass in there, but I don't think it was all mental. They beat us. They also recently beat us 3 of 4 in their new outdoor stadium. I think if we are playing well, it's a tossup every game at the Cell. I'd think if we play well we can win 2 of 3, no more than that. If we play lousy, we can easily lose 2 of 3. I can't imagine it being a sweep either way.
  24. This comment has nothing to do with anything except I didn't see the walk off discussed much. No human can crush a baseball harder than Roberts hit that walk-off. Anybody who happened to play baseball through high school/college can probably reminisce to the day(s) they crushed the ball that hard. Wow that thing was tattooed. I don't even think Hawk made a call, did he. He just let the ball soar as he was quiet. s*** happens. We lose. Get em the next 3 days hopefully.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 07:56 AM) I couldn't disagree with you more. In fact, I don't know that I have ever disagreed with a series of posts more so than these that you've been posting over the course of the last week. If I wanted to cheer on a team this way, I would wear a royal blue cap with a red "C" on it. You disagree that we are a mediocre to decent team? What are we then? I criticize the team as well. I don't like Kotsay. I don't harp on it day after day after day. He's in the lineup against righties. That's how it is. I'm still not crazy about Pierre. I despise Teahen, etc. I also hated Randy WIlliams and despise Linebrink and still am not crazy about guys like Pena. Yes Kotsay sucks. Yes AJ is having a bad season offensively. Yes Bobby has blown some saves. We get it. I just don't see how anybody would take the energy to write more about Kotsay on here. We know. He sucks. I feel we're a mediocre to slightly above average team that is contending for a division title and I'm enjoying the baseball.
