JReed, do you really want AJP to lose his starting job to Castro??? Are we really having this discussion after a 2 homer game versus the M's? You could hit a homer vs. the Ms. Castro is doing very very well in his backup role. AJ is AJ. He is part of the heart and soul of this team. Not saying it's you -- I haven't examined your posts that closely to memorize your position -- but it seems to me a lot of people want to change a lot of things or nitpick about a lot of things (lineups on a daily basis) for a team that has won 11 straight home games and has been overall amazing for quite a stretch now. I really don't get it. I do know one thing. This place is going to get all-time crazy if the Sox start losing a batch of games again. Wow.
-
And we are winning with AJP; exactly my point.
-
The wave is a disgrace to all sports. Boo on Sox fans for doing it. Kill it.
-
My god. Brett Wallace was available???? I would give anything for that guy! Houston fans should be thrilled.
-
Sweet. I love agreeing with people and them agreeing with me. Peace is wonderful.
-
Nope. But you don't make Castro the starter over AJP. You just don't. If you think chemistry means little, then I would disagree with you. Me thinks if Kotsay would have hit two home runs, somebody might have said, "Don't get excited. It was against Seattle. One of the worst teams in baseball." I am fired up about Castro. I just don't want him replacing AJP.
-
What is your definition of more? What I said? Or what the other poster said? Or ? In no way can it seem like AJP is being demoted or you can say goodbye to team chemistry.
-
Not unreasonable at all. But make him the starter?? Why? AJP is doing fine. Castro is doing fine. Start him when Freddy pitches? Of course. Against all lefties? I wouldn't be against that. Rest AJP a little more than normal? Fine. But AJP is the starter. There are things about baseball that include chemistry. This team has it. It would be insane to "demote" him. Just insane to team chemistry/unity.

An Ozzie lover would counter by saying 11 in a row at home, baby! World Series champion in a city that doesn't win World Serieses, baby! Funniest gawddamn quote in the game today, baby! Here's a vote to extend, yes extend, the contract of Mr. Ozzie Guillen ... NOW! From tonight's Associated Press if you want a smile to be put on your face regarding Oz and the Team "Since June 9, the AL Central-leading White Sox are 33-11 overall and 18-1 at home. Before the surge, they were 24-33 and 9 1/2 games behind Minnesota. They are now 57-44 and 1 1/2 games in front. “It feels like that was another season ago,” Konerko, the White Sox captain, said of the spring struggles. “It’s remarkable. I’ve never been on a team that’s turned things around so quickly, where we went from doing pretty much everything bad to everything good. Carlos Quentin also homered for the White Sox, whose previous home winning streak of at least 11 games came in 1989 — two years before they left old Comiskey Park for U.S. Cellular Field. “We can’t say, ’Hey, we’re going to run the table.’ We know we’ll lose some more games at home,” Konerko said. “There are no guarantees, but we’re having fun with it.” Also ... NOTES: The White Sox have seven series sweeps, their most in a season since they took 12 in 2005, when they went on to win the World Series. ...

Why? It seems to be working just fine starting AJP the majority of the games. Omar looking good tonight after getting no love in the game thread when the lineup was announced. Good job Paulie, Quentin, Castro, Beckham, Freddy, Beckham. 11 in a row at home. I like it.

Guys need to just pitch. How bout Strasbourgh (sp)? He's out with inflammation in his pitching shoulder? My god. You never know with pitchers. Just heard on radio Royals are shopping Soria big time.
-
Wow, if he's been quoted on it, then I apologize. If he's been quoted on the fact he's trying to stay healthy, that shocks me. He may be a headcase if he's saying that stuff. I always thought if you try to stay healthy by doing stuff like that, that's when you really get hurt.

You've got to move the runner to third there. I love how we complain in games that we've won. And as far as the lineup selection, what are the Sox, 10-0 in their last 10 home games. I like all 10 of those lineups. This board is going to be insane after every loss the rest of the season I predict. The tone of the board is utterly negative this year IMO. You may disagree, but I think the tone is soooooo negative this season on here. Maybe it's the economy putting many in a bad mood most of the time and needing to vent on here. -
How do you know this stuff? I think the stay healthy stuff is a bunch of b.s. I just don't know how people come up with some of this stuff. When a pitcher or anybody tries to stay healthy, that's when they immediately get hurt. I think Bobby has been a pretty good closer for a long time now, though you don't need to remind me people that you disagree. I am well aware of your disagreement with me on Jenks. I get it. I just strongly disagree with this stuff about him wanting to "stay healthy." He's kinda fat to be worried about that.

I'd be more into the missing Thome talk if I didn't remember Thome getting bashed pretty heavily in the game threads last year. There was lots of station to station baseball hate on here. I liked Thome though. But I agree with the last poster. I don't like our current mess at DH; I just am ready for it to be somebody besides Thome.

OK. I called 3 different Sox fans friends of mine tonight while I was making a long drive on the highway, friends who live in the great city of Chicago ,to get some different perspective than on the board. All 3 liked Oz and KW and did laugh when I informed them of the title of this thread and laughed more when I told them how I am the site's whipping boy. One guy was at the game Jenks blew against the Blue Jays early in the year, and was crushed by that loss (he took his mom and wife and kids there for Mother's Day), then returned to the Cell for a game during Jenks' hot streak. Some guy seated behind him at the Cell was complaining about Jenks and my friend actually turned around and defended Jenks. And he was at that one game Jenks blew a three-run lead early in the year. Another said he didn't like Thome and didn't want a Thome clone coming back who couldn't go from first to third on a hit. He mentioned Dunn by name, not wanting him. And one other said he LOVED this team because it had heart and was finding ways to win. He said it had a chance to become one of his favorite Sox teams the way it came back from 9.5 games out and the s***ty April/May. He also said he loved Oz for not "quitting on the team" as he said Piniella has on the Cubs. Whatever that means, he said it. No offense to anybody here, truly no offense, but it was refreshing that all 3 had only positive things to say about the Sox. And I did not shape the conversation in any way to make them support the Sox. Their positivity came out on their own. And they all are South Siders. Positivity!!! Gotta love it! GO SOX! And f*** you Twins. That team is amazing every damn year.

Paulie, Rios, Alexei, Beckham , Thornton, Putz and ........ Yes, Bobby. Go Sox!

Thank you, sir. You are a class act. There was some bobby love in the game thread which is good. -
What is with the Twins? Is it that they were constructed to just be better than anybody in the Central? Year after year they are champs. Their early exits in the playoffs never seem to demoralize them or take away their momentum.
-
So they are paving the way for that now I guess. Fathom, you must agree at the ridiculousness of the timing of this thread? I mean the team is coming off that wild win streak, the road trip wasn't a disaster and there's a big home win streak going on. Viciedo is looking like the real deal; Danks and Floyd are on fire. Alexei is looking like a real ss of the future, etc. When we fall six or seven out, I would suspect this place will be on fire demanding resignations and firings because it's pretty bad right now and we're in first place (til tonight probably). I mean this is a nonsequitir (sp) deluxe. People can't possibly want these two fired with where we stand today or I think they need some counseling.
-
Viciedo and Hudson for Dunn. Would you do it today? I bet the Nats would. That's our only hope for a significant trade IMO and I wouldn't do it. Viciedo would be a nice bat the rest of this season if given the chance IMO.
-
I do think this is the thread of the century, though. The timing of it is mind boggling. And no I don't drink the koolaid. I think the Twins will ultimately win the division by six or seven games. But as of today we are in the race which isn't really a fireable offense for either of the above mentioned subjects.
-
Mets fans should immediately boycott all games if their GM acquires Linebrink. It's hard to imagine a worse pitcher than he. Except Randy Williams, of course.
-
Your company must be a good one. The companies I've examined in this depression (it's more than a recession) are really treating workers like s*** and implementing pay freezes or cuts for the second straight year. I can't believe a majority of you do not think this thread is kind of embarrassing with the Sox having won 10 in a row at home and still hanging onto first place by a thread. We're in the pennant race entering August again.
-
Thome didn't have universal support on this board last year. I did grow weary of the shift. I still say Viciedo would be a great DH/3B the rest of the season. Even if we don't win the division (Minnie is looking like Minnie again) it'd be good for his development. I don't miss Thome as much as just wanting something better than we have at DH.
