7/8 Game Thread Sox vs. Cleveland 7:11pmCDT WCIU
greg775 replied to knightni's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Our series' against Minnesota really get built up a lot when we travel to the dome. I caught a few innings on mlb.com the other day and the announcers were b****ing big time about having to play that playoff game in Chicago last year. They are still miserable over the coin flip. They were pissed. -

It's a pleasure to watch a healthy Pods run. -

Just say no to that trade. -
I think it's worth the risk of possibly losing. The whole country would be so bored. It'd be an all Chicago thing. And we'd probably win it. It'd be great for the city.
-
I have a feeling it comes down to whether Oz prefers Brian's defense or Wise's speed as a backup outfielder and Wise's speed will win out. That's dumb, though. BA's defense is more valuable than Wise's speed.
-
This flap with KW is funny considering just last week Oz said our fans were smarter than Cubs fans because our fans don't show up cause "they know we are horses***" or something like that. Oz already pointed out why our fans won't go to the games.
-
It's funny to hear Hawk go through his home run call w/out DJ also screaming the 'Yes' part. No way the ultra professional Stone would ever chime in. He really needs to save the hell yes for things like grand slams and game winners. He's already got 'this game is OVA' and the 'put it on the board yes' thing goin on. The hell yes should be rare, but what the f*** do I know about broadcasting? Maybe it's a gem.

His defense is so good it's hard to believe. I hope we keep him as a backup outfielder, defensive replacement. I wonder why he's such a wreck at the plate? Is his approach awful? His stance? When he's up there, he looks like a pitcher hitting. If I had to pick between him and Wise, I'd pick BA as our super sub.

Somebody mentioned trading Alexeii. I don't think I'd do that in a trade for a pitcher. Lexi is a pretty special hitter. Now if he could do a tad better the first six weeks of the season, he'd REALLY be something but he's pretty damn electric.

Paulie and Mark .. what a concept. Loved the postgame interview. Paulie said nothing was different. Just did what middle of the order guys should do, while noting "you won't always get 7 RBIs." He's a stud.

He's been great. I thought last year he had earned his stripes so well that he should NEVER have been booed. I wonder how the clowns who booed him feel now. He had an off year. He was not finished.

I don't think Kenny's comments were that mean or condescending. But once again nobody mentions the Dodger series being premium priced. I think being 4,000 down per game is about right considering the horses*** start this team had at home. I mean the Sox totally sucked at home for a long time, just now sort of getting it together in the Cell. All those shutouts and horrific offensive performances at home. I've been amazed that baseball has survived with parking costs so high and ticket prices so high, but it has. A drop of 4,000 is reasonable to me. This team was painful to watch when Lilly and those other automatic outs were in the lineup. And when Jose sucked early when he was rushed back, and the elderly Colon were being trotted out there I'd find it tough to buy a ticket/parking.

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen

And thank goodness Gobble is gone. I watched Poreda tonight. He looked like he has pretty good stuff IMO though he did give up a run. Poor Gobble needs to get on with his life. -

Maybe Kenny wants all flamethrowing relievers. I know nothing of Allen except what I've read on here and I was hopeful he was a big bopper type for the future. -
Why slam Cowley? He is a good writer and makes his stuff available immediately on twitter. If you read this site, Mr. Cowley, I think you do a fine job.
-
You've got to wonder if he can stay healthy the rest of the season and hopefully into the postseason. We're going to have to play great to make the postseason I fear.
-
Yes, but how many of them are you willing to give up is what sparked the debate on here. Four, five prospects, all of them top prospects in our organization? Or one or two of them?
-
Yeah, Kenny clearly has won some trades, so I shouldn't say "for once." But in a blockbuster I was hoping the 3-4 guys we ship for a Halladay wouldn't be all guys that have been mentioned as big parts of our future. Maybe Richard is not a top prospect; after his first couple starts this year I thought he looked like a very good prospect. Poreda and Allen I'm going by what I've heard and everybody seems to think they are good big leaguers. I don't know what I'd offer for Halladay. I guess it's why KW gets the big bucks.

Oh you are done? Sorry to waste your precious time on this Internet message board. I just saw that quote based on minorleaguebaseball.com. So he's not compared to big hurt; he's compared to Howard and McGriff. My bad. I don't know why everybody has to agree with everybody else, lest you are deemed a mental midget on message boards. I had heard somewhere Allen was supposed to be a f***ing stud and I know Poreda is good. I see you edited your post where you don't say you are done. Thanks for the edit.

All I hear is Allen is the next big thing. Isn't he the next Big Hurt? Why can't we engineer a trade where we clearly win the trade once in a while?
-
Why is Clayton Richard in our starting rotation?
greg775 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Right now we've got four pretty decent starters plus Clayton and we're still a .500 team. Clayton isn't going to single handedly cost us the division. I trust our pitching coach, manager and GM and you better believe they are assessing him and trying to figure out what is wrong or if he just doesn't have it right now. I prefer Clayton over Freddy and Colon, unless Freddy is kicking major ass in the minors and looks like a sure bet. I don't wanna see Colon grace the mound again. -
So is Big Hurt a masher. I was just asking a question of why is Hurt out of baseball and Thome still in? You can't tell me Hurt wouldn't hit 20-30 home runs if he played as much as Jimmy. Jimmy better heat up if he wants to hit 25-30 dingers this year. I said I like Thome, but he cannot run a lick. You got to admit he is probably the slowest man in baseball right now.
-
You guys are nuts. Isn't Allen supposed to be a total stud? Ditto Poreda? And many think Richard will be a big league starter. They won't want Fields. You've got to be creative. I don't know who to trade, but you can't put 3-4 top prospects together for a pitcher. A pitcher's arm can be f***ed at any time.

Is Hamilton definitely out? That better be why Dye isn't on that list. The Sox brass, led by its owner, should personally call out baseball. Jerry needs to speak out and say the all star game is a sham w/out Dye even one of the five being on the fan vote. As far as Thome, why is it that Big Hurt is out of baseball and Thome is in baseball? Both men CANNOT run anymore. Big Jim can barely make it from first to third. He cannot make it from second to home on a hit anywhere, just like the Big Hurt. I love Jimmy, but what's the difference between him and Frank now? Neither can run.

Twins really did man up to win those last 2 games. We may need to outslug them if we can't get the M boys out. Crede is key as well. He is capable of hitting some bombs vs. us. They are going to score runs on us in bunches, especially with our defense. Might be wise to play BA in center all 3 games.
