  1. Overmatched. Annoying loss. Expected though. We probably should go .500 against the Royals this year considering the rosters.
  2. This is the kind of at bat Moncada has to excel in someday if he wants to be a star.
  3. Good job going with the pitch. Tilson is one of those guys who "probably" is a big leaguer for years if he can stay healthy.
  4. Our guys hit a lot of foul balls. Dull.
  5. Will Beef be out of baseball next season? He's a bad hitter IMO.
  6. You are a wise baseball man, poppy! I endorse your knowledge.
  7. Some folks figure if we can't run away with the division and emerge as a WS favorite it's not even worth competing. I prefer getting in the playoffs any way possible, even at 3 games over .500 and taking my chances. This new era of sports is maddening. I hope the commish has the guts to strip No. 1 picks from teams that are deemed "tanking."
  8. Lopez should work fast. Let his stuff speak for itself. Not be tentative. Send him down to revamp his style.
  9. Speaking for the tank/rebuild people, they don't care about that. Relievers are a dime a dozen, blah blah. We'll pick up somebody in the offseason or just have somebody in our system try to close. The moment we got Colome, the tank/rebuild lovers were dreaming of the day we get to "flip" him and who we get. I think if they told the truth they'd admit they want to flip Abreu as well. I'm a bit surprised there's not a lot of flip salivation regarding McCann.

I really can't remember why I despised him so much. Maybe it has something to do with him sucking in 2009 when we acquired him and we flopped and he flopped. Not sure.

I appreciate what you are saying. However, even without being armed with advanced stats I think it's safe to say if Moncada has a Rios-like career it would be considered a huge disappointment. I guess my dislike of Rios could be criticized as being unfair, especially considering I worship Avi and some point out his value is much less than I think it is. I probably should not hate certain players and like others and should be more efficient in studying the advanced stats and making an opinion off them combined with player age. I probably overemphasize the eye test or at least my eye test. As it currently stands, Moncada rates high on my personal scale of ballplayer; Rios ranks very very low.
  12. Lip man, the Avi I saw busted his ass. I don't remember the comment about being out of shape one year. I do know every offseason we read about guys dropping 10-20 pounds and being in the best shape of their life, etc. It's the cliche offseason story. As a Sox fan I just get confused at the disdain for some players. As surprising as the Sox have been, think how much better our lineup would have been this year with Avi hitting .300 with 11 homers and 28 RBI through 200 at bats? He even has six stolen bases. To tell you the truth, I liked Avi and Davidson for dumb reasons, fan reasons. I watched a lot of games on MLB.com in which Avi and Davidson just CRUSHED the ball. I enjoyed it. I like excitement. Avi provided it for me at least and I tend to stand up for players like that. As far as guys who get hurt, it is disappointing but I tend to blame the training staff as well when it's hammy issues. Figure it out, training staff, help the guys in that regard. Again my reasoning may be b.s., but I liked watching Avi on TV.
  13. OMG. You dare want a beloved prospect to compare to Jose Abreu? That's a good take for a guy named greg who loves Abreu. Most would be scared to death to only have him as good as Jose.
  14. Mock Avi all u want but 2 seasons ago he had a special campaign. Why treat a guy as disposable when the only concern is hammy type injury? Get a better trainer for gosh sakes. Some sports franchises don't have hammy issues much.
  15. Sox can't afford Avi?? Cmon. He ain't gonna command elite money as much as greg loves him.

Rios?? You gotta be kidding me. Moncada is a star in the making; Rios?? Cmon. I already like Moncada; I despised Rios.
  17. He may not have nuff RBIs. Hopefully most of the advanced stats that I don't look at are in his favor. It would be the ultimate slap in the Sox GM's face if he makes it.
  18. Wat's the advanced stat we're all supposed to look at with closers now? Just saves and save opportunities?
  19. It makes me very sad, and sick almost, for people to not see what I did in Avi. The ONLY problem he had was he got hurt a lot and was fairly lousy on defense which the Sox have not cared about much. I think it was Fathom who posted his defense has improved. Somebody did. Some of the comments on this board about Avi were downright angry/nasty like he was a jerk. Hitting .300 through 190 at bats with 11 homers. I always liked him mostly because of the eye test. He hit some bombs, true bombs for the Sox. He's blasted at least 2 missiles out of his 11 homers for TB.
  20. Gio is a lock unless he goes in the tank soon. Moncada will make it. Baseball will reward a young star. That will be it unless Abreu gets in. No way on Colome or McCann. And nah on Timmy. I guess Timmy could replace Moncada.
  21. Thome was 6-foot-2; Vaughn 6-0.
  22. Bad games vs. Washington and Minnie this season.
  23. Poor Nicky. The dream is dead. He's another guy who is finished.
  24. A lot. The Sox are regarded as very very cheap right now after lying about pursuing Machado heavily. After that fiasco where they wouldn't pay him, they are not going to pinch pennies regarding Vaughn. Unless Vaughn is trying to pull a fast one and ask for way more than the slot of a No. 3 pick traditionally, he will sign soon IMO.
  25. Is Madrigal that bad? He's got a lot of stolen bases and has hit OK the last 10 games.
