Jesse Rogers (Cubs reporter) floats Colome for Montgomery deal
Great great idea. Would the Cubs do it? He is 6-foot-2, 21 years old and almost ready. Man, this would be AWESOME. Odds of it happening?

Sox @ Orioles Gamethread, 4/23 6:05 CDT (Nova vs. Cashner)
He's not great at .192 of course, but he does have 13 walks. And 10 RBI. We've had worst hitters I guess.

ADAM ENGEL MYSTERY
Or the independent league. Those rosters need to be stocked too.

All I hear from Fathom and others on here is even at Christmasgift time you couldnt' find any Sox merchandise in stores, even at one big one on the South side. How come the mods are so mean on this board generally speaking?

How bout trading him to the Cubs for Montgomery and a Top 50/can't miss type prospect? Might as well trade him. We ain't winning the lousy Central so try to rob the Cubs again. Eloy Trade sequel, baby.

ADAM ENGEL MYSTERY
I wonder what sport he should have taken up. If he's that fast and athletic ... soccer? At 6-foot-2 a speedy wide receiver? Maybe a John Stockton clone? Seems a waste if he can't hit a baseball.

Last night was fun. My eye/memory test tells me we don't win a lot of blowout games. Me likey. Please.Keep.It.Up.

I just don't understand how the Sox make so much money. Horrible attendance figures. Bad merchandise sales compared to their competitors. All I hear is how bad the Sox TV deal is. How is baseball so profitable? Just cause of MLB?? I mean try to start a new sports league. They all fail and lose gazillions like the new football league that didn't even last a season. So it's not all sports that turn to golden goose. Again ... how are the Sox worth a billion when by normal standards they are a huge failure (historically low attendance; second class media TV contracts compared to Cubs, bad merchandise sales compared to Cubs)?

The Anderson Saga (continued from game thread)
I actually don't think it's right. The baseball thrown 90 could kill a person. And you better believe that pitcher would go to prison. They'd get people to admit it was a purpose pitch. I'm just saying it will continue to happen to Anderson because of the unwritten rules. If he tosses the bat he's gonna get hit the next time up or screamed at as he crosses home plate and his reax would determine whether there's a fight or not.

The Anderson Saga (continued from game thread)
I think baseball players have made it clear they will continue to enforce the unwritten rules. If Timmy does that again, look for him to get hit again. Then depending on how he reacts will determine if there's a fight or not and suspensions. I'm not sure why players allow guys who hit doubles to look in the dugout and do the horns on the helmet. I would think that's equally deserving of getting hit the next time up. One thing I noticed in the Robin era the Sox didn't do a lot of retaliating for one of their players getting hit. I haven't noticed in the Ricky era much cause I've pretty much lost interest and am wasting my MLB subscription money.

The Anderson Saga (continued from game thread)
It will get pretty silly if all hitters decided to celebrate their home runs before running around the bases. Besides baseball said Tim wasn't suspended for throwing the bat, but for saying something while going to first after he got hit. In the NL, do pitchers get hit when they excessively celebrate a strikeout? There shouldn't be a double standard in the unwritten rules. If you don't hit the reliever who rarely steps to the plate, then I guess you have to hit the catcher to prove your point.

4/21 White Sox @ Tigers | 12:10 PM CT | Lopez v Norris
I was gonna say after looking at the box score it's a shame we have 3-5 good hitters and everybody else blows. This tank stuff really takes the heat off general managers. Let's face it, anybody can be in charge of a draft. The lists are out and everybody knows who the top 30 players are. Fathom could make as good a pick as Hahn and KW every year. Ditto the finding of foreign players. Not.That.Difficult with the lists available. The list of draftees is not secret. That leaves putting together a watchable team and like I said we have some pathetic players to go with some good ones. I hope Cordell is actually good; i haven't seen enuf games to develop a strong eye test opinion (thanks Sox, for making a true diehard lifelong fan like me finally lose interest in your team) but I like the box scores and highlight reels I've seen of Cordell, not Claudell (like Washington), but Cordell.

The Anderson Saga (continued from game thread)
In baseball's unwritten rules the pitcher has to retaliate in certain instances. I'm not sure if the manager actually orders it or says "you know what you need to do." Cause if the player got seriously injured the manager probably wouldnt' want to go to jail for life if the pitcher turned him in for ordering the hit batsman. But it's not all the pitcher's fault. He's basically ordered to retaliate in baseball lore. If you hit Abreu after he homers, you better believe the Sox have to hit one of the opponents in retaliation (most of the time).

Jason Benetti's commentary during Anderson vs. Royals
Hawk made it obvious he was too good for bad baseball. Hawk's ego was so high he felt he was doing the club a favor broadcasting their games. At least it's the way I saw it. He was OK with Wimpy on the 2-3 games a year but really got bad with Stoney. Like he hated him or something. Now ... Stone remains a gem. Benetti is hugely awesome. Great announcing.

Tim Anderson to be suspended 1 game for... language?
CaliSox. We called it "fastpitch" and played daily at MtGreenwood School. If you called it the same thing, maybe you played against me. Kind of a coincidence we both called it "fastpitch." We also chalked up the wall of the school for strike zone and bought rubber balls (had to be a certain kind of ball to work) at the store on 107th street on the way. It could be 1 on 1 or 2 on 2; usually 1 on 1. Mt Greenwood had a fence that stopped all the ground balls. If you blasted it over the fence, the bike was used as transportation to go get the ball. There were some houses past the fence for rooftop shots. Nobody ever complained. If the ball happened to hit a window, it would not break the window being a rubber ball. Our LL manager would be furious if he found out we played fastpitch or went swimming on the day of a night LL game at MtGreenwood LL fields on 115th St. We also played wiffle and softball on street corners and also played "running bases." Neighbors were a bit testy about the softball as those would break windowns. Hmmm, u have to be from Mt. Greenwood. Neighbors wouldnt get too mad at us tearing up their grass to slide when playing running bases. Unlike today, parents were not involved at all and let kids stay out until dark in the summer unsupervised. Nobody got kidnapped. Nobody got killed. Protective Parents have ruined it all for kids. If we really got lucky, after LL practice our manager would give us one or two bats and two balls and let us stay and play pick up baseball on our own. Most of the time there wasn't a lot of time to get a game in before official games began at 115th fields. As far as Timmy, i don't know. I would think he'll deny using the n word and how the hell they going to prove that??? Believe a member of the royals? Don't think so.

Former Sox updates (Avi, etc)
I know I'm prejudiced as I worship Avi, but he's doing very well. .310 batting average with 7 RBI and two homers. OBP of .365. 46 plate appearances against righties and 12 versus lefties. Look, the guy is a major league outfielder who is ABOVE AVERAGE hitter. Not the greatest fielder but not a complete buffoon out there either. I'd rate him overall as "good baseball player." Please put updates of former Sox in this file. Avi baby we love you. Stupid to just give him away when the Sox had/have all that cash laying around. Even you Avi haters have to admit he should have had a chance to be protected by some of the thunder we have in the lineup following the addition of Eloy.

4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
Very sad what happened to Ventura. Senseless loss of life. As far as the compilation, like I said, Perez would have gone berserk at Anderson. No doubt about that. Sox and Royals have a lot of bad blood, mostly started by the Royals through the years.

4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
I hear u Soxfan, but you do realize the unwritten rulebook exists right? Like u can't bunt to break up a no hitter after what, the sixth inning? I am a bit surprised pitchers' fist pumping isn't a no no in the unwritten rulebook. I guess since relievers don't come to the plate there's nothing you can do to them. I would assume players yell shit at pitchers who pump their fists wildly after strikeouts though.

It is pretty impressive he hit him in the butt. Just think if it was the lower back! Ouch!

4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
My only beef with it is since it is definitely a no no in baseball's unwritten rulebook, he shouldn't flip his bat ... ever. Because teams have to start fights over crap in the unwritten rulebook. Personally I think it's just fine for a guy on my team to do it, except for that. I mean the Royals assholes are going to call him on it every time. Salvador Perez would have went ballistic. Plus, there's a minute chance the batter misreads his blast and perhaps the ball doesn't clear the fence one time and he'll look mighty stupid posing. Finally, Walter Payton saw no need to draw attention to himself and I worship Sir Walter. Go Bears!

4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
You are wasting your words. Cmon. Like I said celebrating your own home run excessively is against baseball's unwritten rules. Case closed. The fact the Royals plunked TA his next at bat after he did that proves the unwritten rulebook is alive and well. It's not going to change. TA is the one who needs to change.
-
4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
As long as baseball players will abide by the unwritten rulebook, TA needs to cut it out. Harper too if he does it. You cannot deny that flipping the bat, flinging the bat, running too slow around the bases, doing something wacky upon crossing the plate all are against baseball's unwritten rules. If you break an unwritten rule, usually something's gonna happen. Still bothers me that the shift isn't against the unwritten rules. It embarrasses hitters when they refuse to plop a bunt to the left side and instead embarrass themselves and the game by pulling the ball right into the shift. GO SOX!

4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
The Royals do this every year to the Sox. If there's a series we are going to win, they throw at a Sox hitter and it usually works. I'm sick of KC doing this to the Sox every single year, starting fights. Anderson breaks the unwritten rule and they bean him in the butt with a pitch. Anderson shoulda just charged the mound immediately if he was going to say/do anything. Oh well, it's fitting two very very bad teams are 3-3 vs. each other this year.

Moncada
Not trying to say I told you so, but I would like to ask last year's Moncada haters why they refused to use the eye test regarding him. I could absolutely tell he was going to be very very good because of the eye test. Of course Eloy passes that same eye test. You just knew the umps were eventually going to give Moncada a break on those blatantly bad calls as he survived a season in which they obviously were testing him. I mean so many of those pitches were way out of the strike zone and yet they'd ring him up. Eloy also obviously passes the eye test and Timmy does as well. Only problem with Timmy is he won't take a walk as we know and the law of averages of putting the ball in play that many more times eventually will bring his BA and OBP down to non spectacular levels. I won't go through the list, but so many of our bad hitters do not pass the eye test. Final observation: Any of you hate the shift on hitters as much as I do? Continuing to ruin the game for me.
