  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:01 PM) Source? Around here, it's not in the news anymore, cept for Trump's boasts. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:03 PM) "No solutions are reasonable." Huh The politicians are not going to attack the issue. We have to wait for the kids to get elected someday and get these f***ing guns off our streets. The current politicians will do nothing. Too much $$ from special interests at stake. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:05 PM) I know I am coming in late, but if I may offer my opinion on arming school faculty... NO, NO, NO, f***ING NO! With due respect to all posters in this thread, please do not fall into the trap of DJT, the NRA, and any other fool that thinks more guns are the answer. This is a distraction to shape the dialogue in the aftermath of Parkland while making it appear they hear and are addressing community concerns. Please do not even entertain the merits of this comical (and tragic) idea. This country has too many guns, too great an access to guns, too big an obsession with guns, etc. We have abused and stretched the rights granted by the second amendment for far too long. It is time the citizens demand a real change in the national dialogue and our laws. Guns are the problem, not the solution. I'd prefer folks like the national guard being on school grounds til we attack the problem as a nation. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 07:31 PM) I love that greg thinks this story has run its course because it's no longer being talked about on Fox News. It's still the biggest story going right now on every other channel and online news outlet. I hope that's true. I don't want the issue to go away. NO MORE weapons! Save our kids.
  2. Well, folks, this incident has about run its course in terms of the news cycle (not blaming anybody for that; it's what happens). My point is we're now in waiting mode for the next incident to happen. No solutions are reasonable. There will be no consensus on how to attack the problem of gunmen in schools and churches and concerts and movie theatres. So we wait for the next incident as a helpless nation. I wish the school districts would make an immediate response to get something done. Call off the rest of the school year until we get these guns off the street via law. Or call in the national guard to figure out a plan to have up to five guardsmen and women protecting the kids the rest of this school year. Of course that still doesnt prevent the gunmen from attacking the other avenues I mentioned. Very sad state of affairs that we can't solve problems in the USA any more.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) She talks the right game, but just sees to be missing a certain “it” factor, charisma, energy...like the feeling the first time I heard Obama, Mario Cuomo, Bill Clinton speak in person, that they really could be president. Hillary never possessed it, either. Almost like magic, although that term gets way overused, like breaking the internet. If Hillary was 10 years younger I bet she'd try again. If Trump is the opponent, he's gonna be easily defeated cause of the fact he's despised by just about everybody.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 10:50 PM) For the love of god can we ban this clown? Differences of opinion make life interesting. Some of us are skeptical about the Sox front office.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 05:48 AM) We have a veteran catcher in Castillo controllable through 2020 along with a guy whose generally considered a top 10 catching prospect in Collins and a very interesting sleeper in Zavala. Right now I feel pretty good about our catching depth and we’ll know more about Collins by next offseason. Regardless, we can afford Machado and still address the other two or three critical roster issues. There should be enough to fill a couple holes via free agnecy and probably another one via trade. Machado only becomes an issue IMO if we have like six or seven key holes and really spread ourselves thin. For now I’m optimistic that won’t happen. Guys, everything printed says Machado loves NY and will be a Yankee. I think you should forget about him. Hence Moustakas. Sox can get him for 4 years 60 million I bet. 15 million a year. Why not? We might improve a lot even this year cause Davidson could move to DH with Mous at 3B. Our infield actually would be very good as long as Mous is in shape. Before advanced stats went crazy, most folks would suggest Mous had a great great season last year. He has WS experience. I don't see the harm. I won't be doing handstands if we sign him but again, why not? Machado is not coming to the White Sox, geez. There's been no hint of that.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 11:56 PM) What kind of f***ed up country are we living in if our teachers need to be packing? That is not the answer, Trump. We are losing teachers by the dozens now in high rent areas. In San Francisco I saw average rent is 78% of a teachers salary. Don’t scare more away thinking they need a gun to do their job.and guns in classrooms every day isn’t going to end well. I don't like the fact the kids and teachers have no way of defending themselves thus I said it'd be nice if teachers had guns at their disposal. However I did hear tonight on the news one school was saying starting now they will have armed guards on a daily basis. That's the only responsible thing to do right now. At least have armed guards. Who will pay for them? Somebody. If it's a public school they should raise taxes. If private, up the tuition and start a campaign for alums to donate.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 05:31 AM) How often are you going to win with a small handgun against an AR-15? Especially when the gunman has the element of surprise on his side... What if you accidentally shot a student or co-worker? Of course a teacher with a gun will be smart enough to be well trained in how to use it. Caulfield ... what do you suggest? If our politics prevents keeping these guns off the streets the least we can do is arm the teachers? It sucks that the madmen come in ablazing and there's no way to stop him.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 05:18 AM) Davidson has limited value...trading Burger wouldn’t make any sense because he could eventually end up at 1b or DH. We still don’t know what’s going to happen with Abreu and Avi. There’s also no regular CFer, and the rotation has more question marks than answers with Rodon out. You can’t expect to win anything with Shields, Miguel Gonzalez, Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer in 2018. I kinda like Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer. Those 3 might be OK. I forgot about Hector. I guess in a perfect society Hector, Soria and Nate if they had career years might be a playoff bullpen. I think we're not that far off if we add Mous. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 05:20 AM) Moustakas is a stopgap that would take playing time from a young player who put up a 2 WAR season last year on a rebuilding team. It just makes zero sense to sign him unless you're doing it for 2020, and there are two much more attractive 3B options hitting the market between now and then. We're not getting Machado. He is dying to be a Yankee I read in ESPN the Mag. Do you realize if we got Mous we'd have veterans in him, Abreu and Wellington and Avi. That's with all those young guys almost ready to contribute. If Robert and Eloy can stay healthy (knock on wood) we really have something in a copule years combining youth with experience. I think people are kind of afraid if we added Mous we'd be sort of trying to win now. And we all now nobody wants us to win yet. Like I said we'd have 4 veteran everyday players and Anderson already has some experience, too. With Mous at third I'd love to see Davidson DH. My mlb.com subscription would change dramatically I think.
  9. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 09:36 PM) I don't even see how weapons like that being available to civilians is even a debate anymore. Australia changed it's laws in 1996 after the Port Arthur massacre. Seems like it's long overdue here. This is the post of the thread. Folks, it worked there. Why not do it here?? I agree. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 03:04 PM) I can't believe the number of people who actually suggest arming teachers as the solution. Double points for the venn diagram of "people who want to arm teachers" and "people who think teachers are lazy union thugs indoctrinating our children with liberalism" being a single circle. I feel for teachers in one respect. Somebody comes in with a gun and starts shooting and you are a sitting duck. Your life is going to end and your life would CONTINUE if you could shoot the bastard yourself. I think if I were a teacher I'd sneak a gun into school fully loaded. s***, if you ended up killing the gunman you'd be a hero, not thrown in jail for having a gun in a safe space in the first place. Think about it. We're all at a disadvantage. Our lives can end at church, all because we have no gun to shoot back. I'm more in favor of doing what Australia did, but I can see the other side. If we're going to do NOTHING because of ineffective politics, then at least it'd be nice to be able to stop the madman while he is in the act of killing kids. As it is now, it's armed gunman versus .... air.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 04:59 AM) Not sure who he is but he sounds like an idiot It was like I was hosting the show. He hates tanking.
  11. I bought mlb.com so we better go .500. I like the projection in this thread. FYI: My radio listening tonight was JT The Brick. Oddly I gladly heard somebody supporting my controversial position AGAINST tanking. He was furious and said pretty much what gets me in trouble on here. He said owners like Cuban should give money back to the fans if they admit tanking or it is obvious. He said sports are in great danger if teams disrespect the sport by tanking. He ripped the Sixers and he ripped the Astros saying their organization should not deserve credit for building a winner. He said they built a winner by tanking and getting tons of draft picks. What pleased ME the most is he backed my contant whining about owners gladly charging the fan for beer and parking and burgers big buck$$$$ when the team is trying to lose. Finally he said he realized fans embraced tanking and it is very dangerous to the integrity of sports to build teams that way. He said as a kid if the Yankees stunk they stunk. They didn't tank. He's a Yankee fan. There are other ways to win besides losing on purpose for 4-5 seasons, folks. And apparently I am not the only one who feels this way. If u think I'm lying listen to JT the Brick podcast when it's put up of tonight's show.
  12. Moustakas sounds like a good addition. You'd have an infield ready for contending status in Moustakas, Anderson, Moncada and Abreu. Then you can trade Burger/Davidson if you want. Or let Davidson DH. Folks, I really don't see why the Sox didn't target a good closer this offseason. Nate coulda been setup with Soria the third reliever. We're not that far from contention in a horrible division, folks. But nobody agrees with me. I'd say sign Mous.
  13. QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 09:16 PM) I'm so sorry that I offended you and others here. I've enjoyed coming here for years to learn about and ask questions of knowledgeable fellow White Sox fans. But apparently I'm much to stupid to hang with you folks so I guess I'll leave so as not to make the site any dumber. Don't leave. People get mad when people start new threads especially if it's a non majority opinion. You have your right to express concern about a player or two. A lot of people on this board have roasted players in the past. I've stood up for many and gotten killed. Jenks, Dye, Wise, Ozzie, Davidson, etc. However I've also been allowed to rip some like Rios and have been hard on them.
  14. QUOTE (Nokona @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 10:13 PM) This thread is so dumb you should be banned No thread is dumb. Nobody should be banned. As far as the topic, no big deal. Moncada is the 2Bman and like somebody said, interviews that use translators aren't very good to begin with.
  15. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 06:25 PM) How about this idea from a candidate trying to unseat Peter Roskam, a GOP incumbent who doesn’t listen to his constituents? This guy has a great idea! How can anybody argue with the premise? At least it's a start. Get this idea in the hands of the kids who have been holding the news conferences in Florida wanting immediate action!
  16. Realistically this story is running out of steam as it starts to become old news and will be forgotten soon like the Vegas massacre story, etc. As horrible as Vegas was, it's rarely mentioned anymore. Thus my concern is we'll never get the unnecessary weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of troubled madmen who want to kill our kids, friends, teachers. Regarding gunmen at schools ... Even if we turned our schools into fortresses where guns can't get in (you ever hear of a gun getting into a prison? make it as hard to get in a school as a prison), the madmen will find other avenues to cause destruction on people. They could wait for recess for instance or pick off kids as they load up the vans for sports competitions, debate competitions, right outside the schools. Or go to the actual Friday night football games with the weapons. America needs to come together because our only hope is to get rid of these weapons. And that will just anger the machine gun lovers who will not give in quietly. I already heard Ted Nugent singing the praises of guns in response to this. Guys like Nugent argue that the reason these instances get so bad is there's no resistance. None of the good guys have guns to put a stop to the madmen when they pull out their guns. Does anybody have a way to stop this?
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 03:14 PM) Why would anyone sign a non-elite 1B to an 8 year deal in this day and age?. When have the owners not overpaid? Talk of the free agent market drying up is silly. It may have slowed because of all the tanking teams, but in the final analysis they all get their money.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 11:41 PM) I respect all Sox players and really hope Big Game James is a solid performer this year, but when you see Fernando Tatis Jr listed as #9 on the MLBN prospect list that really stings. Big Game James would be worth pennies if baseball still went by the old stats. I know, these stats now mean nothing. But since 2015 when he was last good ... 2016: 6-19, 5.85 ERA 2017: 5-7, 5.23. Give Fathom a bat. BOOM!
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 07:06 PM) Fit enough buzzwords in there? "There's no real reason to like him" from you means "He's conservative." Having talked and worked with the guy he's very nice and generous and a big Sox fan. If you think Shapiro is dumb that's more of an indictment on yourself than him. The guy is freakishly smart whether you agree with him or not. Yeah he definitely is not dumb. Watch the videos of him eating people alive at college Q and A's.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 06:47 PM) If he's not considered good then I would like to take a poll of Sox fans and ask them if they would take his 2017 numbers at 3rd base when they are contending. I'd take his production. I think he's pretty good, but I also love Davidson and think I'm in the vast minority there.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:13 PM) That seems debatable. I think many of us want to turn the page on him and forget about the f*** up of a trade that is and not hang onto the past. No offense. Thing is, some of us don't forgive the Sox front office for mistakes as easily as others. My anger stems from the fact fans pay so much money to go to a game they have the right to b****. Many of you don't care about that. Why should they be forgiven if Tatis turns into a phenom? You can still be a fan and rip the front office at times.
  22. That was a bizarre opinion piece. You'd have to have rocks in your head for a brain to write something that misguided. I heard on TV our team only has two athletes who have acknowledged being gay and there's a very small percentage of minorities. Stupid stuff from some guy who should know better than to write that kind of article.
  23. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 12:41 AM) If Sandy Hook couldn’t change anything, then nothing will. I tend to agree. This incident has shut up Greg. No more outrage over these incidents. Just sadness, complete sadness. It's rinse repeat. We hear about the heroes (bless them). We hear about the murderer. The coverage of these incidents is always complete and exemplary because all the national media outlets are so used to covering this stuff. And the local outlets as well. And the police and responders and hospitals are all used to the news conferences, etc. We go on from one incident to the next week after week. No outrage from me (see my posts on the Colorado movie theatre and many of the school shootings). I'm burned out. Just sad. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 12:43 AM) my wife's school district considered arming them with bags of golf balls I wish I was joking. Again, very strange. I guess you throw the golf balls at the murderer as hard as you can and hope you hit him in the head or scare him. Doesn't seem too effective.
  24. This is what we do. Kill each other at school, church, all the time. So many problems in the US of A. Very very sad.
  25. QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 01:27 AM) Well Greg, there’s a bit of a difference between general comments based on observation and general comments based on opinion. You can look up the stats on your own if you’d like, or you can call Josh Donaldson and have him fill you in on some Robertson “metrics.” Or ask around...I bet I’m not the only one around here who watches Sox games. Don’t mean to sound demeaning...we still love ya...not sure the board would be the same without your posts! Good post. Thanks. Thanks for the nice comment at the end as well. I love all posters here as well except one person scares me a bit thinking I'm the devil reincarnated.
