AND THAT’S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 12:54 AM) Davidson was red hot to start last year and then cratered, so i'm tempering my expectations. All I want to see from him is less K's. Say by the end of April, his K rate is at or below 30% - then you can start to get excited. Not to be a dick who pats myself on the back but do you all give me credit for my Davidson love? As you know I praised him all last year and got blasted for doing so.

**2018 Opening Day Game Thread**
As a Davidson lover, I feel very good about this performance. But so many offensive stars. My gosh the long ball! If Davidson and Anderson are truly stars, look out. Goodjob, White Sox.

Could the bullpen be a strength
If you are right and the bullpen is actually good, it changes everything. We win a ton more games.

Welcome Back!
Thanks to the owners for all you do. Tell the truth ... did you ever miss ol Greg during the past month or so? I know I got detoxed and it should be interesting to see if I am a whole new poster. I forgot how mean/ornery I can be. I am purged of hate.

**President Trump 2018 Thread**
Light question: I know how much Trump is hated. Let's say his people phoned your house and he and his wife wanted to come to your house for dinner as part of a presidential visit to the public, would you a.) agree and have dinenr for him. b.) refuse out of principal of what he stands for or c.) politely say you have other plans.

2018 Democrats thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 10:00 PM) Having de Leon in office is going to make it easier for President Sanders to get that single payer bill passed in the Senate. If only Bernie was 15 years younger. He'd win. Ditto Biden. Fountain of youth needed.

2/28 Spring Training game vs. Rangers
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:05 PM) Good news if if they sign Moustakas, he will offset Yoan's insane called looking totals. He really does need to learn how to protect I like fathom's post about technical stuff with hitters/pitchers. Fathom has no interest in posting in the offseason, but he's baaaacccccckkkkkk again.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 09:53 PM) We've pretty much exhausted this debate on whether, or not, to sign Moustakas. Here is my personal opinion and conclusion: I advocate signing Moustakas to a 4 or 5 year contract, if he can be acquired for $12 Million per year, or less. Here is my argument: 1) 5 years covers his age 29 through 33 seasons, still prime years. 2) 3RD base is the one hole, which needs filling, now and into the foreseeable future. I love Yolmer, but he is not a middle of the order hitter 3) He provides a much needed solid LH, middle of the order, power bat 4) His 38 homers, in 2017, are a KC record and the 24 HR's, in just 74 games, on the road, are very impressive. He should be a force at Guaranteed Rate Field. 5) While he doesn't walk at an ideal rate, his strike outs are very respectable, for a true power hitter. His 2017 94 Strike outs, with 38 HR's and a .531 Slugging % was among the best in baseball. We would all like a better OBP, but if he possessed one, he would be a $20 million per year player. 6) His 2015 stats were very consistently solid, with the exception of his July .188 AVG., immediately following the time that his mother lost her struggle with cancer. He took two family leaves during that time. That .188 was more than 100 points lower than the rest of his season. If you take out that month, of understandable emotional stress, he hit .302. 7) That contract would be very reasonable, relative to today's market, and would not preclude another major commitment 8) He would not block any top prospect, currently in the organization. 9) He has valuable Post Season experience 10) Good club house guy 11) Before his knee injury, his defense was rated better than average, and he is now another year further removed from knee surgery and should be an adequate defender. 2019 Lineup, versus RHP: 2B Moncada RF Avi 1B Abreu 3B Moustakas LF Eloy SS Anderson C Navaerez/Narvaez DH Delmonico/Davidson CF Defense First, take your pick?????? That's my perspective. Anyone care to summarize an opposing view? Great post. I'm assuming Sox aren't pursuing him heavily or we'd have heard more. The Hosmer to SD thing was in the news all the time as it brewed. Moose makes too much sense for Chicago. Damn, if we sign him to a five-year 60 million deal he'll be easily movable if he doesn't suddenly start sucking. I'd even be OK with 5 years, 70 million. Why not? Most of our young guys will be cheap and we can sign some pitchers with the $$$ we save from not inking Machado. Nice post, sir.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
I was talking to a big baseball numbers guy and he said the White Sox would be fools to not sign Moustakas. Look, we are not getting Machado. I guess the Sox COULD get him if they over-bid by a big margin his beloved Yankees but cmon. We're not getting Machado. The Sox would have to be bound and determined to win a huge bidding war and history doesn't suggest we get our man in such scenarios (resisting the temptation to blast our owners since we did sign Robert). If the Sox can get Moustakas 2 years 24 million total or something like that, even five years 60 million why not sign him?? He appears to be a proven hitter (he's not a stiff even by advanced stats and has WS experience) and the Sox could solidify third base. It used to be fun to pencil in Ventura every year for a decade. If the Sox want to "flip" him which is what most of our fans like, then do that. The contract shouldn't scare any contenders. The lineup somebody posted the other day for our Sox is scary bad. Why not take care of 3B following the bad news on Burger? There's no downside. The people who like to flip players can hold out hope he'll be traded before our contending years and those of us who like to win now will feel better about our lineup with him in it.

Gun Violence in America
QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 11:02 PM) I actually agree with Greg on this. Let's figure out what the true cost of protecting our schools will be if we do nothing else on guns. Once the thought of raising taxes is proposed, maybe then people will be outraged enough to do something about it. Thanks, Soxfan. I was thinking the tax hike would outrage people to do something, as you wrote. That did cross my mind as well. I want the kids protected. If you watched the kids speak on TV, they were pissed. One of them said they are coming and they will overturn the system someday when they get elected to office. They know it's ridiculous to have these guns on the street and they will change the laws to protect their kids but it may take years til they become our politicians.

Leury, Engel and Yolmer starters?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 03:35 PM) https://www.mlb.com/news/projected-2018-lin...ams/c-266895088 Projected lineups/rotations for all 30 teams as of today Leury, LF Moncada, 2B Abreu, 1B Avi Garcia, RF Delmonico, DH Castillo, C Anderson, SS Engel, CF Sanchez, 3B That would leave Davidson, Saladino, Narvaez as bench... Noticed Clayton Richard as #1 for Pads, haha. No starting spot for Zobrist or Happ...but one has to start against RHP. Dodgers still with outfield logjam. Folks, even if all those hitters projected to have average to fine seasons, that is one anemic lineup. Can I suggest we are gonna be in the bottom 3-5 in runs scored this season? That doesn't bode well with our bullpen. I look at that lineup over and over and see anemia. You?

Gun Violence in America
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 09:52 PM) How many national guards do you propose for each school? Do we reverse the recent tax breaks to pay for this? Until we can get laws changed, as many as needed. Private schools will have to double their tuition. Public schools, tax the public to pay for the guard. Maybe it will force the politicians to get the guns off the streets. There is absolutely no reason to have these weapons in the public's hands.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:01 PM) Source? Around here, it's not in the news anymore, cept for Trump's boasts. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:03 PM) "No solutions are reasonable." Huh The politicians are not going to attack the issue. We have to wait for the kids to get elected someday and get these f***ing guns off our streets. The current politicians will do nothing. Too much $$ from special interests at stake. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:05 PM) I know I am coming in late, but if I may offer my opinion on arming school faculty... NO, NO, NO, f***ING NO! With due respect to all posters in this thread, please do not fall into the trap of DJT, the NRA, and any other fool that thinks more guns are the answer. This is a distraction to shape the dialogue in the aftermath of Parkland while making it appear they hear and are addressing community concerns. Please do not even entertain the merits of this comical (and tragic) idea. This country has too many guns, too great an access to guns, too big an obsession with guns, etc. We have abused and stretched the rights granted by the second amendment for far too long. It is time the citizens demand a real change in the national dialogue and our laws. Guns are the problem, not the solution. I'd prefer folks like the national guard being on school grounds til we attack the problem as a nation. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 07:31 PM) I love that greg thinks this story has run its course because it's no longer being talked about on Fox News. It's still the biggest story going right now on every other channel and online news outlet. I hope that's true. I don't want the issue to go away. NO MORE weapons! Save our kids.

Gun Violence in America
Well, folks, this incident has about run its course in terms of the news cycle (not blaming anybody for that; it's what happens). My point is we're now in waiting mode for the next incident to happen. No solutions are reasonable. There will be no consensus on how to attack the problem of gunmen in schools and churches and concerts and movie theatres. So we wait for the next incident as a helpless nation. I wish the school districts would make an immediate response to get something done. Call off the rest of the school year until we get these guns off the street via law. Or call in the national guard to figure out a plan to have up to five guardsmen and women protecting the kids the rest of this school year. Of course that still doesnt prevent the gunmen from attacking the other avenues I mentioned. Very sad state of affairs that we can't solve problems in the USA any more.

2018 Democrats thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) She talks the right game, but just sees to be missing a certain “it” factor, charisma, energy...like the feeling the first time I heard Obama, Mario Cuomo, Bill Clinton speak in person, that they really could be president. Hillary never possessed it, either. Almost like magic, although that term gets way overused, like breaking the internet. If Hillary was 10 years younger I bet she'd try again. If Trump is the opponent, he's gonna be easily defeated cause of the fact he's despised by just about everybody.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 05:48 AM) We have a veteran catcher in Castillo controllable through 2020 along with a guy whose generally considered a top 10 catching prospect in Collins and a very interesting sleeper in Zavala. Right now I feel pretty good about our catching depth and we’ll know more about Collins by next offseason. Regardless, we can afford Machado and still address the other two or three critical roster issues. There should be enough to fill a couple holes via free agnecy and probably another one via trade. Machado only becomes an issue IMO if we have like six or seven key holes and really spread ourselves thin. For now I’m optimistic that won’t happen. Guys, everything printed says Machado loves NY and will be a Yankee. I think you should forget about him. Hence Moustakas. Sox can get him for 4 years 60 million I bet. 15 million a year. Why not? We might improve a lot even this year cause Davidson could move to DH with Mous at 3B. Our infield actually would be very good as long as Mous is in shape. Before advanced stats went crazy, most folks would suggest Mous had a great great season last year. He has WS experience. I don't see the harm. I won't be doing handstands if we sign him but again, why not? Machado is not coming to the White Sox, geez. There's been no hint of that.

Gun Violence in America
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 11:56 PM) What kind of f***ed up country are we living in if our teachers need to be packing? That is not the answer, Trump. We are losing teachers by the dozens now in high rent areas. In San Francisco I saw average rent is 78% of a teachers salary. Don’t scare more away thinking they need a gun to do their job.and guns in classrooms every day isn’t going to end well. I don't like the fact the kids and teachers have no way of defending themselves thus I said it'd be nice if teachers had guns at their disposal. However I did hear tonight on the news one school was saying starting now they will have armed guards on a daily basis. That's the only responsible thing to do right now. At least have armed guards. Who will pay for them? Somebody. If it's a public school they should raise taxes. If private, up the tuition and start a campaign for alums to donate.

Gun Violence in America
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 05:31 AM) How often are you going to win with a small handgun against an AR-15? Especially when the gunman has the element of surprise on his side... What if you accidentally shot a student or co-worker? Of course a teacher with a gun will be smart enough to be well trained in how to use it. Caulfield ... what do you suggest? If our politics prevents keeping these guns off the streets the least we can do is arm the teachers? It sucks that the madmen come in ablazing and there's no way to stop him.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 05:18 AM) Davidson has limited value...trading Burger wouldn’t make any sense because he could eventually end up at 1b or DH. We still don’t know what’s going to happen with Abreu and Avi. There’s also no regular CFer, and the rotation has more question marks than answers with Rodon out. You can’t expect to win anything with Shields, Miguel Gonzalez, Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer in 2018. I kinda like Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer. Those 3 might be OK. I forgot about Hector. I guess in a perfect society Hector, Soria and Nate if they had career years might be a playoff bullpen. I think we're not that far off if we add Mous. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 05:20 AM) Moustakas is a stopgap that would take playing time from a young player who put up a 2 WAR season last year on a rebuilding team. It just makes zero sense to sign him unless you're doing it for 2020, and there are two much more attractive 3B options hitting the market between now and then. We're not getting Machado. He is dying to be a Yankee I read in ESPN the Mag. Do you realize if we got Mous we'd have veterans in him, Abreu and Wellington and Avi. That's with all those young guys almost ready to contribute. If Robert and Eloy can stay healthy (knock on wood) we really have something in a copule years combining youth with experience. I think people are kind of afraid if we added Mous we'd be sort of trying to win now. And we all now nobody wants us to win yet. Like I said we'd have 4 veteran everyday players and Anderson already has some experience, too. With Mous at third I'd love to see Davidson DH. My mlb.com subscription would change dramatically I think.

Gun Violence in America
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 09:36 PM) I don't even see how weapons like that being available to civilians is even a debate anymore. Australia changed it's laws in 1996 after the Port Arthur massacre. Seems like it's long overdue here. This is the post of the thread. Folks, it worked there. Why not do it here?? I agree. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 03:04 PM) I can't believe the number of people who actually suggest arming teachers as the solution. Double points for the venn diagram of "people who want to arm teachers" and "people who think teachers are lazy union thugs indoctrinating our children with liberalism" being a single circle. I feel for teachers in one respect. Somebody comes in with a gun and starts shooting and you are a sitting duck. Your life is going to end and your life would CONTINUE if you could shoot the bastard yourself. I think if I were a teacher I'd sneak a gun into school fully loaded. s***, if you ended up killing the gunman you'd be a hero, not thrown in jail for having a gun in a safe space in the first place. Think about it. We're all at a disadvantage. Our lives can end at church, all because we have no gun to shoot back. I'm more in favor of doing what Australia did, but I can see the other side. If we're going to do NOTHING because of ineffective politics, then at least it'd be nice to be able to stop the madman while he is in the act of killing kids. As it is now, it's armed gunman versus .... air.

PECOTA projects Sox at 73 wins
I bought mlb.com so we better go .500. I like the projection in this thread. FYI: My radio listening tonight was JT The Brick. Oddly I gladly heard somebody supporting my controversial position AGAINST tanking. He was furious and said pretty much what gets me in trouble on here. He said owners like Cuban should give money back to the fans if they admit tanking or it is obvious. He said sports are in great danger if teams disrespect the sport by tanking. He ripped the Sixers and he ripped the Astros saying their organization should not deserve credit for building a winner. He said they built a winner by tanking and getting tons of draft picks. What pleased ME the most is he backed my contant whining about owners gladly charging the fan for beer and parking and burgers big buck$$$$ when the team is trying to lose. Finally he said he realized fans embraced tanking and it is very dangerous to the integrity of sports to build teams that way. He said as a kid if the Yankees stunk they stunk. They didn't tank. He's a Yankee fan. There are other ways to win besides losing on purpose for 4-5 seasons, folks. And apparently I am not the only one who feels this way. If u think I'm lying listen to JT the Brick podcast when it's put up of tonight's show.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
Moustakas sounds like a good addition. You'd have an infield ready for contending status in Moustakas, Anderson, Moncada and Abreu. Then you can trade Burger/Davidson if you want. Or let Davidson DH. Folks, I really don't see why the Sox didn't target a good closer this offseason. Nate coulda been setup with Soria the third reliever. We're not that far from contention in a horrible division, folks. But nobody agrees with me. I'd say sign Mous.
