Mlb.com top prospects
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:13 PM) That seems debatable. I think many of us want to turn the page on him and forget about the f*** up of a trade that is and not hang onto the past. No offense. Thing is, some of us don't forgive the Sox front office for mistakes as easily as others. My anger stems from the fact fans pay so much money to go to a game they have the right to b****. Many of you don't care about that. Why should they be forgiven if Tatis turns into a phenom? You can still be a fan and rip the front office at times.

Fox op-ed “Darker, Gayer US Olympic Team”? PC battle ensues
That was a bizarre opinion piece. You'd have to have rocks in your head for a brain to write something that misguided. I heard on TV our team only has two athletes who have acknowledged being gay and there's a very small percentage of minorities. Stupid stuff from some guy who should know better than to write that kind of article.

Gun Violence in America
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 12:41 AM) If Sandy Hook couldn’t change anything, then nothing will. I tend to agree. This incident has shut up Greg. No more outrage over these incidents. Just sadness, complete sadness. It's rinse repeat. We hear about the heroes (bless them). We hear about the murderer. The coverage of these incidents is always complete and exemplary because all the national media outlets are so used to covering this stuff. And the local outlets as well. And the police and responders and hospitals are all used to the news conferences, etc. We go on from one incident to the next week after week. No outrage from me (see my posts on the Colorado movie theatre and many of the school shootings). I'm burned out. Just sad. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 12:43 AM) my wife's school district considered arming them with bags of golf balls I wish I was joking. Again, very strange. I guess you throw the golf balls at the murderer as hard as you can and hope you hit him in the head or scare him. Doesn't seem too effective.

Gun Violence in America
This is what we do. Kill each other at school, church, all the time. So many problems in the US of A. Very very sad.

White Sox interested in adding a DH
QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 01:27 AM) Well Greg, there’s a bit of a difference between general comments based on observation and general comments based on opinion. You can look up the stats on your own if you’d like, or you can call Josh Donaldson and have him fill you in on some Robertson “metrics.” Or ask around...I bet I’m not the only one around here who watches Sox games. Don’t mean to sound demeaning...we still love ya...not sure the board would be the same without your posts! Good post. Thanks. Thanks for the nice comment at the end as well. I love all posters here as well except one person scares me a bit thinking I'm the devil reincarnated.

White Sox interested in adding a DH
QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 02:45 PM) I liked him when he was here, but if Robertson wants to be a closer for a top team, he simply needs to be better. He’s a pitcher with great stuff and at times overwhelming to hitters. But those times come and go and he goes through stretches of struggles where he gets lit up with regularity. Closers on top teams might have an outing here and there where they get hit hard, but not often a WEEK here and there where they get hit hard (or they are removed from the role). If he wants to close, it’ll be for a mid-tier team, and those are exactly the types of guys who get moved to contending teams as set up guys at trade deadlines. I bet he looks at the Kimbrels, the Jansens and the Chapmans of the world and gets why it’s like that for him. This is pretty general. I don't mind general comments but I got roasted for making general statements about Soria's stint with the Royals. I wouldn't mind seeing some stats to back up your Robertson statements.

I was on a plane this week and heard some guys talking about an upcoming daddy-daughter dance. I kid you not. They didn't mention the controversy.

Banning Father Daughter dances in school
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 03:59 PM) Well, if they are indeed "silent," your stay here is ova. I'd probably vote for you to stay, though. Of course, there's alway a chance I'd just write in Jesse Ventura or Ozzie Guillen. That's a funny post IMO. I did not know I was this despised. I will try to post less. I've taken a pass on responding to some posts of late. Maybe I can keep it up. I still say I'm one of the most diehard fans on the site regarding the White Sox. I am a true Sox fan to the nth degree. I love the White Sox. But I can't make people tolerate me so maybe I can post less and read more. -- Why do I get the feeling Sox are going to sign Melky this week? I have a sneaky feeling Sox want another veteran on the team. Why I'd think that I have no idea.

Banning Father Daughter dances in school
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2018 -> 04:20 PM) Do you think less of people who ignore others' arguments? We should do a poll of who wants greg to voluntarily leave Soxtalk and who wants him to stay. I still say I have a silent majority that would vote for Greg to stay.

Banning Father Daughter dances in school
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 04:23 AM) And why do you believe that’s the case? I dunno. I always try to be respectful. My viciousness is in my takes sometimes but not directed at anybody on soxtalk proper.

Banning Father Daughter dances in school
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Here's an article Greg. It's in Rhode Island. The article is extremely biased, but I kind of see both sides of the coin. On one hand, it is a nice thing to do, but I honestly don't remember the last father-daughter dance I've seen/heard of. Maybe because I went to a school district where lots of kids didn't have both parents, so something like this would have been seen as extremely exclusionary. I do think this is over the top though. If a school wants to have such a dance, let it happen, but let the girls know they can have someone else take them. Now, to your post, slow down my friend. Political correctness isn't exactly an evil thing, society is getting ruined by a hundred and one things before political correctness. You have to remember why it's there; not everyone is a white, Anglo-Saxon, protestant male. There is a lot of discrimination out there still and political correctness is all that stops some people from trying to offend everyone. And don't be stupid, they wouldn't get rid of sports. The ACLU would have a snowballs chance in hell of doing that. But yeah...I honestly thought we already moved past father-daughter dances in society. Didn't know they were still around. Note the difference in tone five years ago. This was a very polite post from somebody disagreeing with Greg. In five years we've gone to a more extreme tone in our responses many times.

NCAA basketball thread 2017-18
Not trying to be a pest, just love Barry Hinson. With SIU in second and the school not having a lot of disposable $$$, will Barry remain another year?

PC out of Control
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 04:41 AM) Greg, I saw the article on yahoo news. But outside of this thread, not a single person I work with, saw today or heard from mentioned it at all. Its really a nonstory that is being pandered to create fauxrage at the mythical "PC" culture. I will agree that there is no need to insult etc. I hope that you realize I try and treat you with respect and provide legitimate discussion about the issues, even if we may disagree. I also hope that one day by being reasonable and respectful, Ill be able to open your eyes to thinking for yourself and asking if what you are "hearing" make sense. Just think for yourself. Dont get outraged because some guy on the radio/tv who is paid to sensationalize false outrage told you to. There are so many things to be really outraged about, father daughter dances arent one of them. Especially when the premise of the outraged is based on false information. Thanks Badger, A lot of my relatives went to U of Wisconsin and live there. I agree with your second paragraph. I do respect your posts and legit discussion. I appreciate this post and appreciate those who treat me with this sort of demeanor/respect. I don't understand the guy who called me a racist. I've said I'm not perfect and don't always express myself correctly but no where in my posts does a racist behavior exist. I am kind and believe in the Golden Rule and try to treat people with respect at all times.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 03:05 AM) Every post you make on this board validates my theory that you're 72 years old and learned how to use a computer 4 years ago. It's the only explanation that makes sense. What bothers me the most on here is you guys act like I"m the only one expressing these opinions or seeing these news items and commenting on them. I'd venture to say 85 percent of people are talking about the things I'm talking about on here. You guys think nothing is a big deal living in your own world. Also even though I'm despised on here I can't believe some of the insults don't result in bans. I'm not out to get anybody banned but calling me a racist is pretty bad. (Not you). If it was a joke it woulda been in green.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 03:10 AM) Schools aren’t social matchmaking companies. So you are against outings like Daddy/Daughter dance? Just keep it all business all the time? It's the point I'm trying to make. Get rid of everything out of the "ordinary" in our world. Just do it. We're all PC all the time and that's how it has to be. School is school by gosh. Work is work. When you get in the privacy of your own home is when you can let your collar down, no other time lest you offend somebody.

Yolmer wins arbitration hearing
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 02:20 AM) After taxes, agent, and union fees, he'll be lucky to clear $3 million, that's being generous. At his age of 27, $100k a year would only take him to age 57. Long time sportswriters make more than that yearly. He's also from a country in maybe the worst financial disasters in the world, so he probably has to help some people out, and right fully so. If he can live off that for the rest of his life, it's amazing. I think if you dumped 5 million dollars into any one of our laps tomorrow for a one year salary we'd make it last the rest of our lives. There could be extenuating circumstances such as if we didn't have insurance and something horrible happened to us and drained all our money. Now your last sentence is interesting if he's trying to support many many others. I'm just saying complaining about things regarding Avi and players like him may be misguided by me since he's rolling in money and set for life, at least in my opinion set for life.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 11:31 PM) Having school events and stopping half the students is a bad plan. Fathers and daughters can go on "dates" during their own time. Disagree. You can have one outing for dads/daughters and one for moms/sons. Of course it'll be considered sexist now that many districts have mom/sons bowling night instead of a dance. "WHO SAYS GIRLS WANT TO DANCE??? THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BOWL AND THE BOYS DANCE THIS YEAR!!" QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 11:39 PM) Anyone outraged by this needs to seek therapy. Not really. PC is ruining the world in many respects. Here is a nice outing wrecked by PC. Again ... let's just protect our kids 24/7. They will stay in the house at all times playing on their cell phones and computers and not be allowed any outing because PC can be tied into just about EVERYTHING now. Little girls like to be with the dad one night a year in such a setting. My facebook family stuff is full of daddy/daughter dance stuff this time of year. And moms love it too. QUOTE (Quin @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 12:07 AM) Eh, Greg. You're waaaaay over inflating this. You might as well gripe about sock hops. Not really. Daddy/daughter dances are still popular in Illinois/Kansas. Don't know about sock hops. I assume they've been dead and gone long ago. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 12:35 AM) He's still mad about the PC folks who forced sock hops to admit interracial couples. If I wrote this about somebody I think I'd be banned. You would say I'm implying a poster is racist which is very sad and wrong. I think you should apologize personally.

Yolmer wins arbitration hearing
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 11:46 PM) White Sox have their first arb hearing since Keith Foulke in 2001, and lose. Yolmer will receive a $2.35 million salary in 2018. The Sox had asked for $2.1 million Avi's session is still to come if they can't settle. He has asked for $6.7 million, the Sox countered at $5.85 million. I should probably quit getting so worked up over my perceived slights of Avi. Even if he loses he gets $5.85 mill this year. If he can't live off one year's salary the rest of his life (even after taxes and agent fees) he's screwing up somewhere. He's a rich, rich man for life.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 09:15 PM) Exactly! The team management brags him up left and right and then squabbles over $235K? Especially when the payroll is so low. It's why I'll never be a management backer when it comes to the Chisox. I'd rather support the players.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 09:01 PM) Again, why cant the solution be a "dance" where the kid can bring 1 person? Why does it have to be father and daughter? I've got to leave now, but like I said I'm sure these dances have exceptions where it doesn't have to be proven that your guest is your actual dad. I would assume there are brothers, uncles, beloved teachers, friends, neighbors who have filled the role of dad at these dances throughout history. I doubt there is daddy police there making sure it's proven the person brought is an actual dad. I doubt little girls are prevented from going if they want to bring an uncle or family friend in lieu of daddy. p.s. Valentines Day organizers should be ashamed of themselves. Not everybody has a Valentine. It's very depressing to not be dating somebody on this holiday. Kill the holiday.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 08:55 PM) lol, way to take the bait people. Funny for a mod to say this. What is a political message board for? To discuss things. Greg's brain finds this topic appalling and interesting so he posts something. And it's bait? Thanks for indicating my contributions are worth nothing always.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 08:51 PM) And if my daughters school has one, Ill go if she wants. I did enjoy reading your post. It was a good one. You are obviously a smart person and appear to be a very good person (I shouldn't have written that line because you will say you don't care what a message board person thinks of you any way, so my bad). I did notice this sentence that I posted above. I would suggest she will want to go to the dance and you will go to the dance in this scenario. Why? Because these dances are fun for the little girls hanging out with their friends, etc. That's why these issues over fauxrage get brought up. We have all these fun events that now must be canceled because of gender issues, etc., and that leaves us with what? More of nothing cept having the kids get fat and happy playing on their computer and playing games on the computer. Are we going to get rid of sports next? Remember not everybody is capable of being on the team. I'm sure that makes several kids sad and unhappy and perhaps to the point of severe mental depression. How can we have sports in this scenario?? When I was a kid if you didn't make the team you better find another team to get on, try another sport or another club activity. If this PC stuff continues, we will have a whole bunch of nothing happening in this world for kids.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 08:44 PM) I've never met or heard from anyone that is outraged, since these still go on with regularity around here. My kids school invites both parents since its not church affiliated, but next year it will be a mother son dance. And I will gladly stay home. Rule #1 - never search twitter. Supposedly Glenn Beck torched the topic today on his show. I don't listen to his show before u all freak out.

PC out of Control
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 08:45 PM) or you could just include everyone in the event.... I'm sure there have been many creative solutions to the daddy-daughter dance concern of a child having no daddy in the past. My guess is an uncle comes through or a dear friend neighbor. Or a teacher or somebody important in the kid's life. I would suspect in the many daddy-daughter dances in the past there have been ways to make sure all the girls who want to go do indeed go and have a good time with their friends, getting off the couch and actually living life instead of playing video games all night, all day because of PC culture and fear of letting kids actually get out and be kids amongst themselves.

PC out of Control
You said: "I actually think it somewhat problematic. Not every kid has a father who is a part of their life, I dont really see the need for schools to exacerbate this issue." But this is one of the problems. There always are going to be exceptions. So the solution is never to have an event of any kind because it might exclude somebody. So we have no events and our kids just continue to sit on the couch and play video games cause there's no events to be had because of PC.
