  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 10:58 PM) Yeah, I mean the Astros and Cubs perfected tanking. The White Sox perfected the rebuild. It's too early to deem anything final regarding success or failure of the rebuild. Players must now be developed; more must be done with the roster.
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 11:15 PM) It actually makes perfect sense. Get him more PAs. Let him hit in front of Jose. But second is for guys who advance the runner not guys who drive the ball like Avi.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 09:10 PM) Renteria mixing up the bottom of the lineup: 1. Moncada, 2B 2. A. Garcia, RF 3. Abreu, 1B 4. Davidson, DH 5. Castillo, C 6. Anderson, SS 7. Engel, CF 8. Saladino, 3B 9. Delmonico, LF I like Ricky R. I don't want him fired, even when we get good. However ... Avi batting second is ridiculous. It makes no sense. I'd prefer Sally or Anderson second even if Anderson doesn't walk ever. Do u all agree this is beyond absurd to have Avi hit second? Move him down where he belongs before he turns back into the old lousy version of Avi.
  4. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 03:10 AM) Always get a laugh when I don’t watch the game, but try and scan the gamethread after the fact. We ALL knew the Sox were going to bad this season. What do people think these losses are going to look like? I read it after the fact, too. This loss was pretty standard as far as what to expect this season. It actually was rather pretty considering the nice start by Lopez and decent defense and two HRs from catcher.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 01:32 AM) Well, the main point tonight is Lopez pitched well...or we're no longer satisfied with moral victories? I'll take that. I watched some of it and thought he pitched well. I thought our defense looked pretty good too til 3B had the boot late. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 02:02 AM) I think the total rebuild is over Not yet, sir. Our lineup is rather weak. Right now with our lineup and bullpen we're still a 20-under-500 team. Our starting rotation isn't too spiffy either. It's be nice, though. I did buy mlb.com cause I am a Sox fan.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 01:05 AM) Didn't greg call Castillo a bum today? Never fails. I don't call Sox players bums. Not me. It wasn't me. What are u thinking? You know my history on here.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 07:47 PM) This is a general comment and not a defense in this Fox case at all, but the swiftness with which social media outrage can destroy a person is scary. Every case is different and some are very justifiable, but say one thing or get caught on cell phone video in a compromising situation, and within 24 hours you can lose everything. Employment terminated, public name scorned, the works. And I don't know what you can do to get it back cause it will always be available via a simple Google search. It's crazy, especially with the react now, justify later mentality that social media helps instigate. True. Kathy Griffin got buried. I'll give Kathy credit. She's rebounded nicely and can continue her career. Upon reflection (I'm sure I wanted her ruined at first) all she did was issue a Warhol-esque type statement. Not worth ending her career over the bloody head of Trump thing. Is Kathy one of the first to get buried by Twitterworld and TV world, regroup and come back nicely? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:45 PM) Even the Catholics have apologized for their portrayal of Magdeline as a prostitute. As a Catholic, I don't get worked up either way. I know Jesus is without sin, so that means he didn't have sex with her, but if he did? I wouldn't think that would be a bad thing. I mean most young-ish priests nowadays acknowledged they dated a lot in high school and college and certainly had sex in many of those cases. It's all part of life (those who broke the law via the assault cases obviously should be thrown in jail forever). ... Again, I know Jesus is without sin, and Catholics consider premarital sex a sin, but I don't get worked up about whatever relationship Christ had with Mary M.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:09 PM) Moncada Avi Abreu Davidson Castillo Anderson Leury Yolmer Engel No Delmonico against the LHP As somebody who never follows spring training, i now can see why we are picked to have a horrible record. Castillo, Anderson Leury, Yolmer and Engel is a very bad final five-some hitting wise. Moncada, Avi, Abreu and Davidson must hit and hit big.
  9. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:22 PM) HAHA if you go over to the futuresox side of the board you would see how much angst there is. I am so tired of hearing about the mistake. I can forgive him for a mistake. I just wish they'd have found a way to dump Shields. Pay half his salary or something to get him out of The Cell or Grate Field.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 07:07 PM) I guess I don't know why these adults think slamming a high school kid who survives a massacre that killed 17, perhaps including some of his or her friends, is going to be good for them in the long run. Some nuts will jump on the bandwagon, but the vast majority will be appalled. This woman apparently forgot about advertisers, and hopefully it ends her media career. I have no idea what she is thinking, what the musician was thinking, what Frank Stallone was thinking. How the hell are they going to benefit? The people loving what they tweet generally aren't their target audience or the target audience of any advertisers. Amen, Dick. You are da man.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 07:45 PM) Holy s***, this couldn't be further from the truth. Perhaps some people just don't want to talk about it anymore because the trade happened 2 years ago, has been talked to death around here and the outcome really, really sucks so it's not super fun to talk about it. Constantly invoking that name is basically torture at this point, I've blocked the word Tatis on Twitter because I don't want to hear about it anymore, there's nothing I can do about it and hearing about it is not fun, sports are supposed to be fun. Great points. I personally didn't sense too much angst about the loss of Tatis cause Sox have so many solid to great prospects coming up soon. I figure most people just figure there's bound to be a mistake or two made in the rebuild. But if I'm wrong, I can accept that fact.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 04:12 PM) Free speech doesnt mean it comes without consequences... Her vacation is about to become permanent. True. She has the right to say whatever she wants, but insulting that kid was awful. That kid is to be praised not scorned IMO. Shame on her.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 02:09 PM) The entire evangelical base was super angry about JCS. Its been around for 40 years and was pretty universally hated by fundamental christians and was being bashed by the same people on the internet last night. I watched it and it was phenomenal. This is a pretty moronic statement. You not only have entire channels calling Muslims crazy and evil, but you have the president echoing the same exact views. Let me know when he gets taken off the air. Are Catholics considered evangelical? Just asking. Haven't heard either way. As a Catholic who tries to abide by many/most of the rules, I was thrilled with the show. Great music. Great acting and I like when the story of the death/resurrection of Christ gets told so people can see it and not mock us for believing in it. I can picture the Joy Behar's and Bill Maher's watching that and being furious that believers are enjoying the show. I love the fact the cast included people of all races. That was cool. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 02:44 PM) Wow it's amazing how you are able to make it through life with all that oppression you face as a white, Christian male. I'm not talking about me. I feel no oppression. I'm talking about the people that mock my religion and that's OK. You can mock a Catholic on TV or Christian on TV easily and get away with it. Talk about the invisible man in the sky we pray to, etc. You know, a lot of famous people who are beloved by the left also are believers. My idol, Jimmy Carter, is a staunch believer in God. Obama is a believer and his wife a believer. Reagan had a minister visit him every morning I believe. I am not moaning about oppression. I am moaning about the unfairness of my religion getting mocked on TV and radio all the time and those people don't get fired. And they'd be fired for going after other faiths. Joy Behar said we are guilty of mental illness and kept her job. Tulsa do you think it's OK to blast Catholics? You must admit people don't even bat an eye if they hear a Cathlolic joke or rip of the Cathlolic faith, the entire Christian faith? That's why I loved the publicity for believers last night in a well-acted, awesomely sung show telling the story of Jesus. If they got a few facts wrong, who cares? I love it. p.s. I was gonna start a thread on JC Superstar Sunday night but I didn't want to cause any firestorm, proving again I ain't no troll.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 04:20 PM) Good lord, how did the idea that advanced stats LIKED James Shields somehow enter into your head? Greg's bad. Here's my brain's thought process. Nobody's getting all over KW/Hahn for giving up Tatis for Shields so I assumed his advanced stats were good at the time of the trade cause Hahn lovers on here cite advanced stats a lot. That's my bad if his advanced stats reeked at the time of the deal. Don't get me wrong. I'm OK with Hahn. Not OK with Shields topping the rotation.
  15. Do you agree with advertisers showing their displeasure with TV hosts by pulling their ads from the shows? Folks boycotted The View when Behar said Pence hearing from God was a sign of "mental illness." Ingraham who I've never heard of til this had advertisers take away their ads when she got on a Parkland student for getting rejected by a few college admissions departments. My other question/comment is that the Behar thing offended me. I've complained about how the left and Hollywood blasts/mocks Christians all the time. Behar went too far. Like Pence said, God does speak to him. Many Christians believe God speaks to them, directs them and they are not mentally ill. I've brought this up before and the liberals on here have gotten mad at me. I say if some View host said something similar about Muslims or Jews or Jehovas Witnesses, she'd be off the air. But christians are fair game to blast all the time. You can't be a believer without getting hit from all sides for praying to the invisible man, just ask Bill Maher. I'm glad NBC had the guts to air Jesus Christ Superstar on Easter. A step in the right direction for believers IMO.
  16. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 04:53 AM) I really don't want to move Avi. Dude is 26 and is legitimately one of the best hitters in professional baseball. You don't want EVERY player to be rookies...having a leader like Avi when that window really opens will be worth more than some prospects. You figure the Sox will be LEGIT in 2 years, Avi is 28, in the prime of his career. Unless someone gives us a ridiculous overpay he should stay in Chicago and we build around HIM and the kids. Amen. Glad to see a lot of people coming to their senses on here. Avi and Abreu must be a part of this team when it hits contention mode. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 03:36 PM) Couldn't agree more Not sure why so many people are so eager to ship these guys Cause Robert and Eloy are coming before long. And maybe Rutherford. People want the unknown. They are turned off by known commodities.
  17. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 06:15 PM) What do you want Greg? It was one game. Phil Humber threw a perfect game once. I'm not sure what I want. I'm just surprised a guy bangs three homers and there's little more than a yawn. What if he woulda hit four? Would he have gotten some unrequited love on here or still a lot of ... he can't keep it up. He's at best a 100 game a year guy on our next WS contending team?
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 03:28 AM) Bunting is stupid period Our manager likes the bunt, though. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 05:32 AM) Last I heard for the forecast, it was something like 30 degrees with 2 inches of snow coming. We got the 2 inches. Crazy there were a lot of wrecks. Hate to trash your car as late as April 1 cause of ice/snow.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 02:46 AM) As Bennetti is saying, it's not a matter of "who's the closer", but the Sox employing smarter modern logic and using their best reliever against the opposition's best hitters. I like it I can buy that logic. Sounds OK to me. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 04:31 AM) I’m going to say it, he sucks I like Benetti. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 05:29 AM) He just does nothing for me. He’s got no calling card like you say and I just ignore him honestly. That is a weird exchange you had That was a weird exchange. Maybe he was struck speechless by the beard that day.
  20. QUOTE (Quin @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 08:24 AM) Don't you...hate relying on prospects? I'm a Sox fan so I go along with what the team wants to do. The difference is I issue blame where I see it. And Shields was the wrong veteran pitcher to add. Why? He stinks IMO, advanced stats be darned.
  21. QUOTE (Spartans Rock @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 06:09 AM) Tuffy Rhodes hit 3 opening day homeruns too!! And that was off freaking Doc Gooden. He finished the year with 8, and got banished to Japan. Point being, Gooz Fraba!!!!!!!!! George Bell did it too. It's still an amazing day. I'm just surprised there's no glee for anybody on here besides Moncada and all the guys who were acquired the last year or so for the rebuild. I guess Davidson is a little too old for anybody but a few of us to get excited. I was happy with all the bombs. Timmy appears to be ready for a superstar season now that he's dealt with the loss of a cherished friend. And Abreu remains great and Davidson just continues to hit homers (I understand he Ks a lot, but...)
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 06:51 AM) Shields had KW written all over it. I should have said the front office then, my bad. I just don't get the connection between winning and trading Tatis. It's a screwup but not because of the W/L record. People made the decision to deal him.
  23. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 06:29 PM) I hope that wasn't the only 3-hit game we'll get out of Davidson for the next few months. I don't know if there was a hidden negativity in this post or if you are a big fan just hopeful he'll have more three-hit games. I for one am amazed that there's not a thread praising the bleep out of Davidson. The man just hit 3 home runs on opening day for gawd sakes. This is a monumental feat. Sox fans should be rejoicing about this feat and Anderson's two home runs and Abreu's dinger (he's a slow starter sometimes) instead I'm reading more about how Moncada SHOULDA COULDA had four hits if he had any luck at all. I guess my love of Davidson, Abreu and Avi is gonna continue to get me in trouble with posters. I could watch replays forever of those home runs. My gosh they were all blasted.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 09:29 PM) Yep, also cost us Tatis Jr. Ugh. Sox lost Tatis Jr. because the GM traded him in a stupid move. Why does Hahn get such a free pass on here? If you are being serious, I would be amazed. It's a stretch to blame the Sox for starting quickly and the GM thinking he was adding a piece for the playoffs. I blame the guy who made the trade.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 04:26 AM) Good job Greg. I hope you are right for the duration of the season Thanks Rock. Me too. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 04:26 AM) One game, Greg. Like someone else said, let's see a sustained improvement in walk rate and K rate before we get too excited. It was certainly nice to see the power display, today, though. I love his story. Perseverance and all he's done the last year and change is HIT. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 04:40 AM) Nope, im on the Greg train here. Switch came on. I love Matt Davidson.
